Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com
The latest by AZ was originally formulated as The Final Call until label problems dead ended that project. Reconstituted with a mix of songs from that album plus a slew of new ones, AWOL is a fine follow-up on AZ's considerably underrated Aziatic album from 2002. As always, AZ is blessed with one of the smoothest, most effortless flows in hip-hop today, as distinctive and effective as when he first appeared on Nas' Illmatic 11 years ago. The production holds up for the most part on the new CD with some searing soul for "Never Change," and rugged, old school-inspired beats on the hyperactive "New York" and "AZ's Chillin." Attempts at more contemporary club cuts like "Still Alive" fall flat however and questionable guests kill songs like "Street Life" and "Envious." On the balance, the album is above-average: not the best work AZ's ever done but after the hiatus it took to put this CD together, it doesn't disappoint the impatient either. --Oliver Wang

Could become a classic... but not enough C-Bo!.......2005-07-17
"The Final Chapter" is the follow up to C-Bo's album "Till My Casket Drops", which was a huge success for C-Bo and A.W.O.L. Records as well. Unfortunately (for AWOL Records) The Final Chapter is C-Bo's last album on the label. After that he moved on to bigger things, running his own (and successful) label West Coast Mafia Records and making some real money for a change. However, about "The Final Chapter" itself: this could be a HUGE album, on the same level of Till My Casket Drops! The production is bangin' on every single song, and C-Bo comes out with some much energy and anger. So what prevents it from being another classic? The answer is simple: C-Bo being in jail at the time, so he couldn't finish the work on the record. The result is this: on every single song, you get an awesome beat, C-Bo coming out with a trully heated verse, and after his verse - the rest of the song is handled by much inferior rappers, who usually drop mediocre verses. Not that they are so bad, it's just that they don't even come close to C-Bo's appearence on the song. So you start listening to the song, enjoying The Baldhead Nut's verse and the beat to the fullest, and after his verse is done, you just start to get a bit bored. The only guest appearences worth mentioning are done by Spice 1, AP-9 and Laroo. No Killa Tay, Marvaless, or Lunassic on the album. The one and only actual solo song in track 15, which wasn't on the original release anyway - it's a bonus track, and it sounds like it was recorded quite a few years later (it's not a surprise that it's the album's best song, since it's a C-Bo solo, over a great West Coast Mafia beat). So, it's hard for me to judge this album - the production is just perfect, and so is C-Bo's rapping. But you don't get enough of the man himself (since he was in prison at that time. Again...). A.W.O.L. had to work with what they had, and considering the curcumstances, they did a good job. I would recommend it to real C-Bo fans, but others might get dissapointed, since the lack of C-Bo hurts the album quite a bit at times.
Another Great album from C-Bo.......2004-11-25
C-Bo returns like clockwork a year later to release another very solid album and his last on AWOL. Although it only has 10 songs and they all feature at least one other person, it is a great album (in his top 4 or 5 albums out of his 13+ solo one's). Has no songs that I'd skip and has a classic track as well. The production is great on this one, the only complaint is there ain't enough of Bo on here, but still I'd highly recommend it.

Horrible.......2003-06-25
This is a horrible album. I though C-Bo was good after hearing him on some of 2pac's stuff so I gave this a try. Its terrible. He has limited lyrical or flow ability, the production is terrible, and the album is just plain boring. I'm glad i bought it second hand fr $...

Str8 Mashin By The Locc for the 9 Fo Fo.......2007-04-23
1998 C-Bo comes back a year after One Life 2 Live and comes real hard. He is one of the sickest gangsta rappers of all time. He has a wicked flow and a even more wicked subject matter. The production varies quite a bit ranging from One Drop Scott, to JT The Bigga Figga, to Mike Mosely, DJ Darryl, Studio Ton,to BC and Ric Rock. The beats range from Italian Mafia Motifs like on "Major Pain and Mr Bossalinie" (ft/ Spice 1), to smooth G-Funk, to hard core savage like the beat on the title track, a horrorcore, violent classic, one of the hardest beats ever. I love the Bo and E-40 collabo on what else, 40 and C-Bo. "Money By The Ton" is a relaxed G-Funk beat perfect for the hustlers. "Big Gangsta" is also relaxing because of the beat. Bo can spit dangerous venom over such beats, so don't let the laid back vibes of the beats fool you. "Boo Yow!" slaps hella hard with some deep groove G-Funk. C-Bo had classic after classic throughout the 1990's. He hooks up with the best West Coast beatsmiths and spits some heat. C-Bo represents that set-trippin' side of Killa Cali and drops somethin' here for the riders and thugs out in the wild west.

C-Bo returns again less then a year later to drop Til My Casket Drops. One of his better albums, has about 1 or 2 songs that I skip and a good amount of good songs. Features E-40, Mobb Figgaz, Spice 1, Outlawz, and a few other big names on the west. A lot of controversy was surrounding this release as it got him in trouble with the law. Doesn't have a classic track but it has many good or great songs & I'd Definitely recommended it for rap fans, one of his best efforts (in the top 4 or 5 of his 13+albums).

Album Description
"AWOL One has one of rap's most original voices." -- SPIN
Some have called AWOL One "the Tom Waits of hip-hop." Some have called Factor "the John Peel of underground hip-hop." AWOL One and Factor certainly make no legitimate attempts to fit into such gigantic and legendary shoes, but their kicks are lookin' pretty smooth on their latest collab Only Death Can Kill You. AWOL One (a.k.a Tony Martin) explains, "This album is all about life cycles (life-death-day-night-alpha-omega), opposites, and confessions. I love this project because it is a consistent vibe and sound. It's like waking up early hung over, having a revelation, and recording it." A natural eclectic in life and music, AWOL One tends to deliver consistently creative projects that take twists and turns throughout. Along with being an accomplished emcee, he is a producer, video director, fledgling label owner, painter, graffiti writer, graphic artist, DJ, and proud father. This record, on the contrary, has one fluid feel anchored by the beat-crafting and engineering of one single producer, Factor.

This is another smash hit that AWOL has released. The 1st time I had heard of KILLA TAY was on WEST COAST TRIPPIN. It was #4 called KILLA WHO. I know that this is never going to be read but when I first heard that, immediately he was my favorite WEST COAST rapper next to BROTHA LYNCH. One day when I make it big, I have to do something with them kidz from AWOL!!!!!

Lil Ric is not from the "south".......2001-05-12
Lil Ric is tight. Im glad hes not with No Limit anymore. They are sorry. Everyone knows that no limit's only good releases were when they were an underground Bay Area rap label. West Coast Bad Boyz 2 and TRU's true to the game were the last good albums they put out. So it's not down south rap- it's Bay Area rap- at least it was when it was good. Now it's garbage. But anyway, Lil Ric is tight- this cd is pretty well put together. I don't think it does him justice though. Some better production would help Ric. To:"doggfather" the review guy from la- Lil Ric is from Richmond, NORTHERN CALIFORNIA. Maybe you should stick to snoop and doggies angels aiiight. Check out Lil Ric on West Coast Trippin 2. Its game fasheeez.
Good album.......2001-03-12
The comments of the above review notwithstanding, this is a good album. Good rap skills, good beats. By the way, Lil Ric is not a "down south rapper."
this album aint that good.......2001-01-23
When I heard that "lil ric" had a new album i thought it would be as good as the one he came out with a couple years ago on NO LIMIT RECORDS, that album was called "DEEP N THA GAME", that was a tight album !! This disapointed me, it had like 2 good songs, dont waste you're money on this album, if u like down south rappers check out "shell shocked" from MAC, that's one of ma faves, and u can buy it right here..., ANYWAYS, I WOULD PASS ON THIS 1, PEACE

Good best of album.......2004-11-25
C-Bo releases a best of album from his first 8 years of rapping, 91-99. Most of the songs on here are from albums that weren't his. It has a few skippable songs on here (about 2 or 3) and a few very good ones. I only have 2 of the 16 songs on here and I have 12 of his albums. All songs except 3 feature someone else on them. Not the best out of his albums, but a good one to have for fans, it doesn't disappoint.

A review of C-BO's C-BO's Best Appearances '91- '99........2003-06-18
C-BO's Best Appearances '91- '99 is a great collection of songs by the rapper C-BO. It was disenthralled in 2001. These certain songs all feature great performances by C-BO and the guest musicians. Every track is benevolent in lyrics and ambient beats.
My top 3 favorite songs form this cd are numbers 4,7, and 11. The Funk Is On is a dark piece with good, hardcore lyrics to be had in it. Ride 4 Me is a nicely put together track where each artist has an adroit solo. Rillas In Tha Game is another hardcore song with spectacular lyrics by the all 3 standard rappers. Every other song is pretty adept.
Concluding, this is a great cd by C-BO. He performs well and you won't be dissapointed, especially for being one of his newer releases. Thank you for taking the time and generosity to read my review.

Bangin' Rider Tunes.......2006-03-08
C-Bo's One Life 2 Live is a neat endeavor throught the streets of Sacramento's hood. The beats range from hardcore G-Funk, to a few more laid back funky party beats. Lyrically though, he sticks to the script and delivers us good old fashioned gangsta rap. Fans of West Coast hard core and G-Funk should find satisfaction in this release. Club Hoppin' is a fun, bouncy track with a beat reminiscent of Mtume's or George Clinton's 80's work with a funky guitar riff on the side. I Can't See the Light is dope, with a menacing beat and stone cold rhyming.
Not C-Bo's best effort.......2005-10-06
This CD is okay, but not that good compared to C-Bo's earlier releases. I like the songs 1 life to live and club hoppin. The rest of the album lacks good beats.
Not his best but still Pretty Good.......2004-11-25
C-Bo comes back again to release One Life 2 Live. Not his best album to date it does have it's highpoints. Has one classic track and one great song but has about 2-4 songs I skip. Features too many of his fellow AWOL artists (only has one solo out of 12 songs), and that takes the quality down. Production is pretty damn good and is handled by Mike Mosely and DJ Darryl. I'd recommend it for his fans but he as better albums to get if you are new to him ("Til My Casket Drops", "Gas Chamber", "Enemy of the State", "Life as a Rider", "Final Chapter" -- they're his best ones).

2.1 lanny woods is right.......2003-10-28
C-Bo is tight but this cd is hella regular and short. there are only twelve songs which worked in tales from the crypt (his best cd) however he had used a few of these songs elsewhere and this is the cd where fred smith seemed like he did not try real hard for very long on his cd. on this cd and especially now since Bo comes out with a cd every eight months it does not seem like he tries really hard to make a particularly good product, and i now see why this is the last awol cd i got because this was his worst with them
Tight As Hell.......2001-10-25

Customer Reviews:
Another solid album from one of the all-time greats .......2005-09-10
AZ, one of the realest and one of the best ever behind the mic, is back after slightly over 3 years since his last LP to bring you the appropriately titled "A.W.O.L." - his 5th solo release (not counting his "S.O.S.A." EP that was shelved in 2000 and his "Final Call" album that was supposed to come out in June 2004 but kept getting pushed back & bootlegged and eventually was shelved as well). How it rates to his other albums, probably one the weakest but still solid and worthy of 4 stars, which shows how nice he is his lower quality albums are 4 stars. Packed with 15 songs (track 13 is 3 songs off his "Final Call" album), it has no classics, 10 songs are good and the other 5 are ok. Guests rap on 3 songs and do hook on 2 others so you get enough of AZ to satisfy your thirst after a long AZ drought. Production is only about average (other then on a few tracks) which brings the album down a little (it's never his lyrics or flow which are both top notch and A game). Heatmakerz, and Baby Paul each do 2 songs, Disco D, Emile, Frado, Vinny Idol, Fizzy Womack of M.O.P., DJ Absolut, Tone Mason, J Hen, DJ Premier, MoSS, and Buckwild all do 1 song. A great album to have for his fans and fans of true hip-hop.

True heads know AZ. From Illmatic to Firm fiascos, if you know good hip-hop you should know A.Z. This A.W.O.L. album is what fans have been waiting for since Sugarhill. Since Final Call got bootlegged this is the first official release we have seen in years from A.Z. and it doesn't disappoint, stand out tracks include: Never Change, the Come up (Preemo!) and Chillin. Now if you like gangsta rap this is the album for you. Bo's gansta rap skills are truly matched by knownone in the rap game. The only person I can even think might give him a run for the money is a very young cube. There styles and sound are very similar. This ablum is a must have, there is no song on here that you can't get your gansta boogie on.This album is truly a rap classic. Beware of Bo's violant rap lyrics. Oh and by the way this guy is not I repeat not a studio ganster he's fo real, if you don't belive me check his back round. P.S. E-40 makes a guest apperance on one track and legit on another.
