Grant Lee Genius.......2007-08-02

I've of course heard of Grant Lee (Buffalo/Phillips)but this was my first purchase, and its been on high rotation ever since. Its just such good, feel good music & I would like to punish myself physically for not having got into this before. This may not even be the best but i will now buy them all on the basis of this album. I love it, seriously, I love it. Don't ask me song titles, the whole album just swings on thru and its starting over and I let it go again, and the whole thing just sounds better and better. I dunno is it Duncan Sheik meets Beck? I guess if it could be better than maybe a studio band with a real live drummer, but I'm being picky. Grant Lee, please include me in your (should be) legions of fans.

Was always a big fan of Grant Lee Buffalo, "Jubilee" totally rules, and Grant Lee on his own rocks too!

"Like A Lover" is one of the simplest songs, but conveys so much feeling, it knocks me out everytime I hear it.

"Mobilize" the beat always makes me think of Portishead, such a cool song

"Spring Released" is one of those songs that's timeless. It's like religion to play this track coming into the sunny season.

Do yourself a favour and buy anything of this exceptional musician that you can get your hands on. C'mon Grant Lee, give us another!!

rhythm + romanticism + melody = Mobilize.......2005-07-14

"Epic masterpiece..." "Channeling John Lennon" These are descriptions from other reviews, both puzzling to me. There's nothing epic about this, nor is there the slightest resemblance to Mr. Lennon -- who composed music in an entirely different vein. This is a personal album, sometimes quiet and sometimes hypnotically beat-driven. As far as I can tell GLP played and sang everything himself. This is like his earlier Ladies Love Oracle, but juiced up with rhythm. Acoustic guitars and electric keyboards predominate, with the sythetic percussion.

Mobilize doesn't really hang together as a unified piece. It is more a collection of songs, most of which are very good. The best of them are dreamy, entrancing, and soothing. Computer-sequenced beats give a pulse to many of the tracks. The lyrics are specific enough to be enticing but vague enough to allow your own interpretation. But take advantage of the free amazon.com download of See America and you will hear for yourself the strengths of this Grant-Lee Phillips effort. It will tell you ten times more than I could ever say in a review. Besides, there are only two kinds of music: good and bad. And you and I will never completely agree on which is which. At least give this a try. Was See America Grant-Lee's twist on Simon & Garfunkel's "...all come to look for America"? It seems so to me, and I think it is equally clever and anthemic.

See America, Sleepless Lake, and April Chimes showcase Phillips' ability to write a haunting melody, which is something of a lost art. See his Ladies Love Oracle CD for more of the same.

The other free download, the title track, is probably the least enjoyable tune on the album. It sounds a bit off-kilter, with its minor chords and allusions to war. The other tracks are much less depressing. Spring Released is positively bouyant, as is Beautiful Dreamers. (My grandmother used to play the classic old song Beautiful Dreamer, which GLP deftly incorporates into his own new composition.)

GLP is not trying to push the envelope or pump you up or sermonize. He seeks to entertain, by presenting a little piece of his contempative romantic soul. Treat yourself to some high class pop. Get this album. You can catch glimpses of GLP as the "town troubadour" on the first season of Gilmore Girls, too. That's how I was first introduced to his music.

I lost my first copy of this CD. I can't imagine how. It never left the house. But I had to buy another, because I knew I would miss it. I think you might feel that way about it, too.

I first heard Grant-Lee when he was part of Grant-Lee Buffalo. A friend made me a tape of "Mighty Joe Moon" about six years ago. I hadn't really thought about Grant-Lee until I saw the Exile Follies tour with Kristen Hersh, Grant-Lee and John Doe. I was so impressed with Grant-Lee that I had to hear more. I downloaded parts of songs from this album and listened to them over and over. I had to buy the album. So I bought it a week ago and have been listening to nothing else but this since. It's on most of the day at work and then on in the car for four or five songs at a time. I truly love this cd, it's a good thing that it's not on tape or the tape would be worn out already.

There is something really catchy about the songs that make you want to listen to them over and over. They also get stuck in your head and you just have to listen to them! "Spring Released," "Sadness Soot" and "Beautiful Dreamers" are the main ones that I keep singing over and over in my head. "See America" has a wonderful romantic sound to it that makes you want to take a road trip. I thought the lyrics seemed really cool at first, then I read the lyrics in the liner notes and realized that they are even cooler than they sound, they are quite poetic.

If you've never heard Grant-Lee, I've learned that you're missing out. He's definitely up there with my faves - PJ Harvey, Kristen Hersh, Tori and Liz Phair. I will definitely be adding more Grant-Lee Phillips to my collection as I can afford it.

Move to this........2002-08-26

Grant Lee Phillips is a top-class singer-songwriter who has a wealth of experience as well as two or three truly great records behind him, and somehow you just knew he wasn't going to disappoint with Mobilize. It finds Phillips embracing a more polished, modern sound than past efforts - accentuated by the classy, breatless pop of the opener 'See America' and similarly impressive 'Humankind'. As the title suggests 'Love's A Mystery' is all mystique and intrigue with Phillips sounding eerily like David Byrne, and is exactly the kind of left-field tunesmithery on the human condition at which he excels.
The real gem here though is 'Sadness Soot' - dizzying in it's magnificence and showcasing just how remarkable Phillips' voice really is - a master of phrasing, mood and expression. As with his Grant Lee Buffalo albums, just when you think you're in for more pop thrills, we get something edgy and challenging like the title track to throw you off the scent. The second half of Mobilize is engaging and interesting, if a little less consistent than the first (though that's a common complaint these days). Still, the bonus track 'Sunday Best' is a rather jaunty closing treat.
For listeners that like their music to be innovative, fresh and just a little outside the square then Mobilize will fit the bill nicely.

The ultimate woozy, laidback sound.......2007-03-16

Along with Twinz' "Conversation" and Lil 1/2 Dead's "The Dead Has Arisen," Foesum's "Perfection" is among the most slept-on g-funk masterpieces ever. Released in 1996 by Tommy Boy, Foesum (actually a threesome, consisting of DJ Glaze, MNMsta, and T-Dubb) engineered the west coast sound of g-funk to absolute perfection on this release. In 2002 they repurchased the rights to the album and released this "Limited Edition" on their own label, which remains in print. This is an album you can just pop in the car CD player and let it ride, because every track is just perfect. The production is what sets this CD apart, DJ Glaze's sound isn't a far cry from Warren G's. He loves slow beats with rolling bass beats, and his whiny and woozy synthesizers sound great with his soulful guitar lines. The music is very hooky, female R&B singers such as Nancy Fletcher sing choruses on a lot of the songs. As MCs, Foesum is a pretty similar act to Twinz (Wayniac was originally the fourth member of Foesum), and they happily reminisce about life growing up in their hometown of Long Beach. They are certainly tough gangstas, but they like to rap about good times and enjoying themselves (and based on his rapping, you'd never guess DJ Glaze was Japanese!). Guest appearances come from an array of Long Beach rappers, including Twinz, the incredible hookman Bo-Rocc from the group The Dove Shack, and others. This album is just such beautiful feel-good music, and any fans of 90s west coast music and g-funk should consider this a must-have.

After the intro, the album begins with "The Ultimate Collaboration," which features the Twinz and some running dialogue from dancehall toaster Judah Ranks, who also appeared on "Conversation." Lyrically, it's a showcase, as each verse is rapped faster than the last, until the final verse is spit in triple-time. "In the Wind" is absolutely incredible, with a gorgeous beat somewhere between Warren G's "Super Soul Sis" and Dove Shack's "Summertime in the LBC." Bo-Rocc's chorus is simply perfect, and this song is just so soulful and laidback sounding. "Lil' Something Something" is more upbeat, a nice cut, and after "Who Got Game?" comes my favorite song on the album, "Runnin' Game." This song features Bo-Rocc again for another incredible chorus delivery, and the verses are among the best on the disc. This is a party type of joint, but the dark bassline and sing-along chorus make this one I could listen to over and over again. "Whowouldofevathought?" looks back at growing up in Long Beach over some more soulful production. "Just Get On Down (G-S...)" is a unique song for the album, a harder sounding one than the rest. The production is really cool, it sounds electronic with the DJ Quik-esque voicebox in the chorus. The MCs use a harder sounding delivery to make this song excellent. "Listen to the Sound" is another highlight for sure, featuring among the best beats on the album and a cool chorus with a soaring synth line. "Don't Get It Twisted" boasts of their abilities, and "Come Take a Ride" again proves their ability to craft a perfect G-funk tune. The darker "Who Got Your Back" is great, and the album ends with the reminiscing "Some Things Never Change." A hidden bonus track, featuring a young Snoop Dogg, sounds like some older material.

"Perfection" is one of a small handful of g-funk albums that really got the formula absolutely perfect. Fans of Warren G, Twinz, or the Dove Shack could buy it immediately, because while it's not a far cry from those sounds, it's every bit as high quality. Start to finish, this album really lives up to its name. The songs are beautiful and engineered to perfection.

This disc does not deserve the bad rap it gets. Yes, it is not Tranceport. Get over it. However, the mix between tracks 8+9 is as bout as good as it gets. Tilt and BT go together real well.

Don't just buy cds because of a name. Oakenfold is incredible don't get me wrong, but man this cd just well... its not what you'd expect. yea these are mostly just club tracks from the late 90's. Go ahead and just get a different mix by him. but still becarful what you get. You might not like it.

As Good As They Come.......2006-10-15

I remember one day, a new alt. radio station 105.9 The Edge in Fresno played a song called "Sunshine Smile." I was immediately blown away. I got on the phone and called the radio station, and asked "who sings this?" The song became so popular on the station that summer that the djs talked about the unusually high number of calls it generated every time it was played. I thought, "wow, i'm not the only one who likes this song." The station began to play it every two hours, and the djs would say the song still had callers asking "who is that?"

I picked up Against Perfection right after that. It is today the best cd I own (out of hundreds). It is filled with strong guitars, and melodic vocals. It might even be classified by some as "emo" today. But, "Sunshine Smile," of course, is as every bit what these other reviewers say it is--incredibly different, edgy and catchy. And Against Perfection is moving in almost every way, even today. Against Perfection is so different, it has this ageless sound that could easily be played on today's radio. The slower songs are just as amazing as Sunshine Smile. If you have ever been in love, "Breathless" will undoubtedly move you: "My second-rate poetry, Just is not enough to describe you, I'm scrambling 'round the floor, Looking for some fresh metaphor." Truly, every song is unique and yet powerful. "A to Fade In" is another thought provoking song about being introspective. There is a reason why this album is expensive and in demand today.

My friends fell in love with it after hearing it. A few bought the cd, others wanted taped copies, and then they, too, were hooked. I swear, it will hook you.

To my surprise, however, the LA stations, or any other for that matter, never picked up "Sunshine Smile." Like 105.9, Adorable left as fast as they arived--perhaps both Adorable and the radio station were a head of their time.

A few fans have set up a myspace pages, and if you do a search you can sample these songs. You will not be disappointed.

Just Buy It.......2006-06-11

Unless this is reissued, you're never going to find it cheap nowadays. But with the shoegaze "revival" that's been going on recently, and the great import reissues from Ride and Slowdive (with formerly impossible to find EP tracks included, the Claire Records reissues (Secret Shine "After Years," Ecstasy of St.Theresa "Sussurate"), etc there are really only three hard to find, expensive shoegaze albums out there: this one, Lilys "In the Presence of Nothing," and Drop Nineteens "Delaware." OK, there's the impossibly expensive early Moose stuff and "Mrs. Dolphin" but Moose was overrated and the first two Pale Saints EPs aren't that hard to find. If finances are an issue, this is unquestionably the one to get. The Lily's is a blast, but it really does sound a lot like MBV. "Delaware" is likewise a must-have, but it isn't on the same level as this album. Against Perfection is unlike anything else, really. "Sunshine Smile" is at least as incredible as described by other reviewers, and the rest of the album really rocks out from behind a ceiling-high wall of beautiful guitar noise. There isn't a dud on the album, and the stellar tracks are really about as good a pop music gets, period. The only problem is not wearing out the repeat button on your remote after "Sunshine Smile."

Part Shoegaze, All Ear Candy.......2005-01-09

Hard to pigeonhole England's Adorable. Equal parts shoegaze and punchy power pop, maybe blend in some Catherine Wheel and Ride for good measure.

The American release is definitely the one to own, otherwise you would miss the brilliant "Sunshine Smile" with its swirling guitars, plucky bass and outstanding vocals. It's a tune that still amazes me today. All the singles from the album are superb, "Glorious", "I'll be Your Saint", "Homeboy" and "Sistine Chapel Ceiling".

This CD makes a strong argument that the early 90s really was the pinnacle of the "alternative" scene in England.

Judging a book by it cover?.......2005-01-03

Against Perfection is one of the best albums I have heard in a while. I found it behind a load of cds something stupid like The Rasmus.Having not previously heard of them,I was intrigued by the song names and the art work on the cover, so I bought it for a mere 3.
I loved the honesty and orginality of the lyrics and music.the emotion in some songs, like "Still Born Lover"

AP - A Must Own........2004-11-22

Adorable is more popular now than they have ever been. Ironic, considering their break-up was due to lack of interest from the press and their label Creation.

What I can say about Against Perfection except it is perfection. When you look back at the shoegaze movement, Adorable did not exactly fit the mold of the genre. While acts like Slowdive, Chapterhouse, My Bloody Valentine and Ride had the definition defined, Against Perfection took many of the elements of shoegaze and added the backbone of Echo & The Bunnymen and Jesus & Mary Chain. If you saw them live, the crowd was not looking at their shoes - they were jumping around, having a ball.

If you do not have AP, you might as well get the US release once distributed through SBK. The UK edition will not include three tracks, one being Sunshine Smile, the song that put Adorable on the map stateside.

Soundtrack to the Classic Scifi/Horror that was never made.......2005-06-15

While Nic Endo is known the Noise/mixer contributor to Atari Teenage Riot, her debut album is a far cry from the Gabber Digital Punk of her former band. No noise on this CD (except for the white heat video by Phillip Virus) but what we have here is a debut of experimental electronic sounds capes that have more in common with yesteryears science fiction and horror drive ins from the 1960's. Nothing make this more apparent that the dialogue samples from "Carnival of Souls" that is used extensively on the track "I Didn't Exist", While Hanin Elias makes a guest appearance on "One Night Domination" Endo truly shines on her own with her experimental gems that she creates. Someone mentioned elements of Jazz, and I have to admit I don't see a single trace of those anywhere on this CD. I see synthesizer textures that sound like something from the 1960's I hear 80's drum rhythms with a Linn Drum, and I hear various moments of random quirky synthesizers but no a hint of jazz. In the end this CD will fit better next to a Coil Cd or early era Download than it does next to a Gabber or Digital Hardcore CD.

Bow down to your Mistress, you've been very bad..........2004-07-01

With that outta the way, let it be known that this is one of the more unusual and challenging electronic albums to come out in the past few years. It's a dark, quirky mix of jazz, old-school electro, and industrial that I don't think I've heard anywhere else lately. Yeah, the influences are obvious(Herbie Hancock, Igor Stravinsky) and any intellectual snob could dismiss it as derivative or unoriginal but the bottom line is there needs to be more women thinking like Nic Endo in electronic music, and music in general, for that matter. There are too many whack female DJs that are getting known simply because they are a female in a male-dominated genre (like most genres of modern music) and Nic Endo has effectively risen above this with her own unique style. At first, the title "Cold Metal Perfection" suggests something harsh, militant, and industrial (like most of the other Digital Hardcore she is known for) but, as the music sinks in it seems more like a portrait of a foxy android sex machine who's had enough of doing what she's programmed to do.
From the get-go, this record may seem difficult to many listeners. It may be confusing to people who are accustomed to certain approaches to electronic music or it may just appear to be a sloppy, lazy cop-out (this girl's techniques are very lo-fi (...)). However, upon repeated listening, it's clear how sullen, sexy, and sophisticated it really is. And for all you fellas out there that still aren't willing to recognize, Miss Endo happens to be a startlingly gorgeous babe, so go on and buy her frickin' album, already.

Sensitivity and perfection........2003-07-14

This is a brilliant album and 'yes' it does take some time to understand it fully - for those looking for some electronic pop merchant go for Radiohead or the Pet Shop Boys. This album is a truly inspired atmospheric album that at different times takes off into steady electronic rock swing - in particular "I Didn't Exist" and "One Night Domination".....
Nic Endo's "Cold Metal Perfection" is exactly what the title suggests - an edge, a robotic swing, but also a highly sensitive work of unique contemporary music that has no real equal out there - except of course Mr. Empire's own special vision.
If you enjoy this album try Alec Empire's "Low On Ice" and more comparative "Hypermodern Jazz 2000.5", don't let the people who don't have the time or sensitivity to appreciate Nic Endo's fine effort lead you astray.

fist off: nic endo is a clasicially trained jazz musisian, O.K.? this might be why if you do not like "jazz" or other experimental musik formates you proboly wont like this album.
i must say that the first time that i listened to this album it didnt get me going, but oh well. i listened to it a couple of months later and then actually LISTENED to it...IT ROCKS!it starts out with a sample form "bela ligosies dead" and only improves. with song titles like: "neon sunrise", "black light rituals", "crystalline curcuits" how can you go wrong? and these are not even the best titles.
i would sugest this album to someone what likes alec empire 's more mellow albums like "space jazz".

Should have been a single (at best).......2003-02-26

This has got to be the single worst CD I have bought in the last 5 years. Most of it is pointless, meandering sub elph vs Coil glitch-style electronica.
However, just when you think you've lost the will to live, the one track with any kind of tune, and a vocal performance "One night domination", comes along and bumbles along quite nicely.

I hoped for more that I got........2005-12-03

I first heard Christine Kane in 1997. It was a small concert venue, and she was really inspiring -- both her lyrics and her stage personality. I still love my autographed copy of "A Thousand Girls."

But I have been so disappointed with her two most recent albums. The music keeps getting more sophisticated and beautiful. The lyrics are stuck, thematically and emotionally, in the same place they were in 1997. As a result, this music no longer sounds fresh to me, and no longer inspires.

I bought Right Outta Nowhere hoping that R&M&W&G was just an anomaly. From the opening lines of the first track, I thought, "It's another Christine Kane song about a woman trying to get away from the oppressive expectations of her family so she can be true to herself." Maybe this is unfair. After all, how many songs are there about there about people having been left by their loves, or finding true love, or regretting lost opportunities, or whatever? But there seems to be a deeper rut here. "Four Legs Good Two Legs Bad" is fun, but the cat hair in the tofu seems an awful lot like it's been sitting around since it did its duty in the kitchen on "(No Such Thing As) Girls Like That" on R&M&W&G.

So, in all, I'm disappointed. From the one live track on Right Outta Nowhere, I think I would still really enjoy seeing Christine in concert. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to matter a whole lot what's on the playlist.

This album is profound and inspiring. I stumbled into a performance by Christine in Fairfax, VA and bought the CD. I love it! The lyrics put into the words many of the feelings and thoughts I have. The CD will inspire you to take a chance and the leap of faith you have been wanting or needing to take.

and I say that because of the influence her music is having on people's lives. Not only is the music beautiful, but it's written with the purpose of serving others. You're bound to feel refreshed/empowered after meditating on the lyrics of "Right Outta Nowhere", "Overjoyed", and "Made of Steel".

Buy both of her albums and back up copies to spare. Chances are you'll let a friend borrow it and they won't give it back!

If you are going to buy one album this year, this is the one! (And if you're going to buy two, get Christine's last album, Rain and Mud and Wild and Green, if you don't already have it...) Christine's music speaks of all the world's greatest beauty, and serves as a revival for everyone who values friendships, earth, animals and the importance of a good deed. Her unique blend of humor and contemplation can let the average person know they are making a difference in the world, simply by following their heart and doing what is right. On top of that, she is a knockout singer/musician and this album showcases her most subtly sophisticated songwriting arrangements to date. You won't regret owning an album from this songwriter who is quickly making a name for herself.

Along with Twinz' "Conversation" and Lil 1/2 Dead's "The Dead Has Arisen," Foesum's "Perfection" is among the most slept-on g-funk masterpieces ever. Released in 1996 by Tommy Boy, Foesum (actually a threesome, consisting of DJ Glaze, MNMsta, and T-Dubb) engineered the west coast sound of g-funk to absolute perfection on this release. This is an album you can just pop in the car CD player and let it ride, because every track is just perfect. The production is what sets this CD apart, DJ Glaze's sound isn't a far cry from Warren G's. He loves slow beats with rolling bass beats, and his whiny and woozy synthesizers sound great with his soulful guitar lines. The music is very hooky, female R&B singers such as Nancy Fletcher sing choruses on a lot of the songs. As MCs, Foesum is a pretty similar act to Twinz (Wayniac was originally the fourth member of Foesum), and they happily reminisce about life growing up in their hometown of Long Beach. They are certainly tough gangstas, but they like to rap about good times and enjoying themselves (and based on his rapping, you'd never guess DJ Glaze was Japanese!). Guest appearances come from an array of Long Beach rappers, including Twinz, the incredible hookman Bo-Rocc from the group The Dove Shack, and others. This album is just such beautiful feel-good music, and any fans of 90s west coast music and g-funk should consider this a must-have.

After the intro, the album begins with "The Ultimate Collaboration," which features the Twinz and some running dialogue from dancehall toaster Judah Ranks, who also appeared on "Conversation." Lyrically, it's a showcase, as each verse is rapped faster than the last, until the final verse is spit in triple-time. "In the Wind" is absolutely incredible, with a gorgeous beat somewhere between Warren G's "Super Soul Sis" and Dove Shack's "Summertime in the LBC." Bo-Rocc's chorus is simply perfect, and this song is just so soulful and laidback sounding. "Lil' Something Something" is more upbeat, a nice cut, and after "Who Got Game?" comes my favorite song on the album, "Runnin' Game." This song features Bo-Rocc again for another incredible chorus delivery, and the verses are among the best on the disc. This is a party type of joint, but the dark bassline and sing-along chorus make this one I could listen to over and over again. "Whowouldofevathought?" looks back at growing up in Long Beach over some more soulful production. "Just Get On Down (G-S...)" is a unique song for the album, a harder sounding one than the rest. The production is really cool, it sounds electronic with the DJ Quik-esque voicebox in the chorus. The MCs use a harder sounding delivery to make this song excellent. "Listen to the Sound" is another highlight for sure, featuring among the best beats on the album and a cool chorus with a soaring synth line. "Don't Get It Twisted" boasts of their abilities, and "Come Take a Ride" again proves their ability to craft a perfect G-funk tune. The darker "Who Got Your Back" is great, and the album ends with the reminiscing "Some Things Never Change."

"Perfection" is one of a small handful of g-funk albums that really got the formula absolutely perfect. Fans of Warren G, Twinz, or the Dove Shack could buy it immediately, because while it's not a far cry from those sounds, it's every bit as high quality. The group went on to release a lot of music (in addition to "Perfection," they have two more group albums, a greatest hits collection, a rare tracks collection, 2 MNMsta solo LPs, and some DJ Glaze compilations), none of it would recapture "Perfection." Start to finish, this album really lives up to its name. The songs are beautiful and engineered to perfection.

One more thing...do NOT pay ridiculous prices for this album! This album IS still in print! In 2002 the group bought back the rights to this album from Tommy Boy and rereleased it on their own label, the Perfection Label. Amazon has it in stock, look for "Perfection (Limited Edition)." The only difference to the "Limited Edition" as far as I can see is that the cover is white, there are no liner notes or cover packet, and there is a bonus track featuring Snoop Dogg. It says allow 4 to 6 weeks for delivery, but it was in my mailbox in two. Pick it up!

G-Funk to Perfection.......2006-03-06

Foesum--consisting of DJ Glaze, MNMsta, and T-Dubb--are an unconventional rap group to say the least. Multiracial, for one. They also make a point to deviate from disparaging women and defiantly shout the words "females" and "skirts" instead. They also deviate from the conventions of g funk, preferring, often, a rougher delivery to a smooth one. Nonetheless, when the trailblazers of g funk are mentioned--Easy E, Dr. Dre, Warren G and DJ Quik--DJ Glaze ought to be among them. These are people who actually re-defined the subgenre, rather than blindly following a fad. At the end of the day, they are the ones who should be remembered. Another hit from the mid 90s, the best years for rap by far, Perfection is gold from start to finish, with 2 classics, 4 near-classics and not a bad song on the album.

The first classic is the short "Come Take A Ride," clocking in at only 2:24. It's more like an into, with only one chorus and two verses. Nonetheless, Glaze's use of whiny synths and deep bass is second to none. (There's even a tambourine in here it sounds like!) The synths are the main attraction here, and Foesum has some of the most melodic uses of syths ever recorded. Like Quik and his pipes/flutes, the last 30 seconds of the song is just fun, innovative synth play. One shouldn't be allowed to drive a car without this song playing. I still maintain that a genre of music has never captured a lifestyle better than g funk. And this song is at the top of the list of my reasons. The next classic and the best song on the album is In Tha Wind. Featuring Bo-Roc from the Dove Shack, the album's verses are sung by Foesum, the chorus, by Bo-Roc. Again, the synth-base combo is impeccable, but the real star here is Bo-Roc, who croons as well, if not better, than Nate Dogg. The song is truly fantastic.

Other memorable songs are the upbeat Lil Somethin Somethin, Listen to the Sound (with the whiniest synths you've ever heard), Whowouldevathought? and Runnin Game feat Bo-Roc again. Unlike Twinz--incidentally one half of them, Wayniac, was intially part of Foesum--DJ Glaze, MNMsta, and T-Dubb have stood the test of time. Perfection is their best and most well-known album, but the others are good as well. They continue to turn out pure g-funk hits underground, keeping it real. In one of the best music eras of all time, Perfection is another one to grab.

Foesum Puts Down Some Perfection on This G-Funk Classic.......2005-04-22

Foesum came onto the scene with their debut album in late 1996 called Perfection. During a time when the g-funk was beginning to fade from the mainstream audience and also the dancing east coast movement of what I got came into play, Foesum was probably one of the last artists to really lay down some straight g-funk. Foesum first appeared on The Twinz "Conversation" album on the cut "Pass It On". Foesum collaborates with The Twinz on "The Ultimate Collaboration". Then the song that I first got hip to Foesum was when I was in the mall and went into a store and saw the video of "Lil' Somethin' Somethin'" and it was hot with the lowriders and just rollin' in the California sun. "Runnin' Game" is my favorite song on the CD with Bo-Roc(who is better than Nate Dogg - no offense) but the hook is so dope. Some other song that are just dope are "Whowouldofevathought", "Just Get Down(G-S***)", & "Don't Get It Twisted". If you want something to just roll to, this is it!!!

Another tight LBC release.......2005-03-20

Foesum really spit serious game in this album. The lyrics are tight, but even better, are the smooth g-funk beats often paired with silky R&B hooks and whiny keyboard synths that all fit together to make a solid album! On "Just Get Down," there is a nice funky P-Funk influenced bouncy beat with use of a talk box intermittently through the track. The album has some profanity, but it is not as pervasive as in many albums. If you like laid back Cali G-Funk, this one is for you!

this cd surely is one of my all-time-favourites. )I copped it back in 96, when g-funk was on its climax.
if you like that laid-back-g-funk-tunes from back in the mid-nineties you will love foesums "perfection" just as much as any of warren g.s albums. this is straight lbc-sound.

The WHITE album isnt exactly the RIGHT album........2007-01-26

After reading the other review and hearing several of E-White's appearances on Snoop's album and mixtapes I decided to give this a go. I wouldnt say I was disappointed but I wasnt really impressed with it either. The problem is that he doesnt bring anything new to the table that we havent heard from other gangsta rappers from the G-Funk era. The production is aiight but nothing special and lyrically he sounds like a poorer version of Snoop. The thing that makes him stand out however is his voice sounds cool and his delivery is on point on every track. I understand this album was recorded in 48hrs like the title states, before he went into prison, so that probably explains the slightly rushed feel to alot of songs. So maybe his proper album will be better produced. After all that being said there are afew brilliant tracks such as "Put Yo Handz Up", "In the Middle of the Night" feat.Kam+MNMSTA, "My Time to Shine" (my favourite), "Nuthin' But Luv" and "U Don't Want None". Let me reitirate this isnt bad album its just not great either through lack of originality. But maybe that was the point...to just keep it gangsta.

This whole cd is amazing. E-white is pretty impressive on this
album. I think hes shines best on "Life in the BIg City" a great
track. There's some nice G-Funk beats on this album like "Ghetto
Luv". And the Twinz appear on "All in the Family", I've been waiting for them to hit us with something new. The production on
that track is just sick. Check this cd out if you like westcoast music, This album's one of my favorites released this year.
