Customer Reviews:
Extraordinary and beautiful rendering of Bach's great fugal opus.......2007-07-11
As an obssesed fan of Glenn Gould, I would not have found my way to buying this album had I not realized that Gould had not recorded it on piano but only did some extracts on an organ, of all things. I have played through these fuges before and found them uninterested compared to the lovely themes that permeate the entire Well Tempered Clavier books 1 and 2. I read a few reviews of people who had bought this cd and on the strength of their passionate and positive appraisal, I bought it. Good that I did.
Her playing is first class, impeccable with a sure sense of dynamic, rythmic and colorful phrasing that entertain and enchant from the beginning to the end. This is a woman who had lived with these pieces, played them and contemplated their meaning. I have always said that a mere technician can reproduce sounds on a piano, often in a very accurate way but if there is no soul, if there is no artistic merit in the interpretation, then it is like listening to a robot playing the instrument. A gifted artist rises to the occassion and is motivated and inspired by the material at hand. The results here are worth a lifetime of repeated listening. If my memory is correct, there are so little, if any, indications in Bach's edition of how fast or loud or soft to play these pieces. That ommission allows an opportunity for the great artist to interpret with creativity. We are not disappointed here. The intuition of this artist led her to imbue this work with such beauty, allowing the work to reveal it's own inner realities on sublime levels. This is supposed to be Bach's crowning achievement and in most ways closes the Baroque era. A very rich accomplishment both for Bach, who died writing the last notes and for Tatiana Nikolayeva a recording that places her at the highest levels of musical accomplishments.
Excellent Exposition of the art of the fugue.......2007-07-10
The clarity of the notes and the even balance of the melody and harmony made this familiar piece of music sound new and exciting
A great master plays one of the monuments of the Baroque.......2006-04-21
When I first saw this recordings in a music store I never realized what was waiting for me inside the jewel case. Two or three years had to go before I got one. Since then this is one of my favourites. Nikolayeva was a master in all the meaning of the word and although I am a purist (would have liked a Harpsichord instead of a Piano) her interpretation is magnificent, moving and executed with the precision required for a Brain surgery. Do not miss this set, it is without a question one of the very best AoF ever recorded. You will only need to hear how this great Russian Master played the first three notes of the Ricercare a 3, BWV1079, to know what I mean.
Absolutely stunning.......2005-11-29
This is far and out the greatest interpretation ever (on piano) of this monumental work - absolutely perfect, under any aspect. If you are a classical music fan it would be a crime to give it a miss.
Best of the best.......2005-05-08
I own about a dozen performances of The Art of Fugue (ranging from solo piano and organ over string quartet to Hermann Scherchen's orchestral arrangement). This is hands down my favorite (Scherchen's a distant second). Glenn Gould's might have been equally good if he had ever recorded the whole set for piano. (He recorded a partial set for organ, and piano recordings of a few individual fugues were released posthumously.)
While Bach never specified instruments for TAoF, the voice leading is too keyboard-friendly to be coincidental. It is not a "flashy" work but --- despite that --- extremely demanding on a keyboard player in that exceptional articulation skills are required to clearly bring out the four voices.
The purist may be annoyed at the fact that a piano (rather than a harpsichord) is used at all, and that (obviously) modern A=440 tuning is used. If you are one of these, you may wish to consider Davitt Moroney's harpsichord recording instead.
Unlike Moroney and organist Helmut Walcha, Ms. Nikolayeva does not attempt to "complete" the final unfinished fugue: her playing tapers off on the last notes in the manuscript.
The playing is not only crisp and technically perfect but beautiful at all times, and the recording very clean.
Bonuses are the four Duets (which work surprisingly well on the piano) and the two Ricercars from The Musical Offering. (The Ricercar a 3, incredibly, is actually rooted in an improvisation session by Bach on an early Silbermann fortepiano at the palace of Frederick II in Potsdam.)

Angela Hewitt follows her outstanding Bach recordings, including the Goldberg Variations and the Well-Tempered Clavier, with another sterling disc, highlighted by a gleaming rendition of the French Overture, whose half-hour zips by like the wind. Its opening is played with rhetorical grandeur and the dance-based movements pulsate with life. Her Italian Concerto is effervescent, as Hewitt's alert rhythmic sense and precise articulation give this atypical work just the bounce it needs. She characterizes the narrative of the Capriccio on the Departure of His Beloved Brother beautifully, bringing out the emotions suffusing the departure scene and rendering the posthorn imitations with flair. Throughout, Bach's contrapuntal lines are clarified without didactic underlining. Add realistic sound and Hewitt's own informative notes and this disc is a winner. --Dan Davis

COLLEGE DAYS.......2007-07-05
During my college days, I tried to learn, on the modern piano, some of the compositions contained in this compilation (i.e. French Overture, 4 Duets for keyboard, Italian concerto, Capriccio sopra la lotananza del suo fratello dilettissimo) as played by Angela Hewitt. Since that time, I've tried to be a so-called "purist" trying to only listen to J S Bach's keyboard works on the instrument that all indications are they were supposed to be written for (i.e. harpsichord, organ, clavichord, etc.). Therefore, until the purchase of this recording, my recording collection contained no transcription of Bach's keyboard works for the modern piano. After hearing so much about Angela Hewitt, I wanted to hear her play and I am so very glad that I relented. Angela plays Bach on the modern piano with clean articulation and most of all she plays dear Johann beautifully. I particularly enjoyed the French Overture in B minor (aka Partita in B minor)--I was reminded of many hours of my hard work trying to learn that composition. Angela does not sound labored in the least; she plays that work most beautifully with a keen sense of rhythm. I also loved the Capriccio sopra la lotananza del suo fratello dilettissimo written by Bach when his brother departed. I had never heard that work; nevertheless, Angela Hewitt plays it wonderfully.
All in all, I truly love this recording and it is most delightful to hear Bach on the modern piano again as played so magnificently by Angela Hewit.
Angela Hewitt at her finest.......2005-06-27
If you are newer to Bach's abundent solo keyboard music - or Angela Hewitt - then this CD is an excellent place to start. It features the popular "French Overture" and contains some of the more lyrical and "accessible" music Bach wrote for the keyboard. There is a delightful mix of Bach compositions here capturing the diverse musical styles from Italy, France, Germany and Spain. Bach shows himself to be a true "non-politico" as well as the master composer by skillfully combining these styles (namely from France and Italy) to produce works of great appeal and mastery - but in a style that is uniquely "Bach."
In the opening piece, Hewitt does great justice to Bach's tribute to the Italian concerto style with a convincing "dialog" between lighter solo episodes (tutti) and the fuller passages imitating orchestral effect (ritornello) - all on one keyboar of course. This piece is most famous for the Adagio which Hewitt infuses with much heart and soul by her delicate, thoughtful melodic lines that never approach over sentimentality. The main event of this CD must certainly be the monumental "French Overture" (aka: Partita in B minor) - a grand conception lasting some 30 minutes repleat with numerous movements of French courtly dance influence and rich in imaginative and decorative keyboard effects. Miss Hewitt wonderfully articulates these effervescent rhythms with supreme confidence and masterful result. Her ornamentations are always tasteful, seamlessly integrated and truly enthralling to hear. In the off-beat rhythms of the gigue, her semiquavers bounce off the page with great poise and the crispness of fresh-pressed linen. And she shows her masterful pianism to its fullest in the curious final "echo" movement, bringing an brilliant, orchestral quality to it.
Hiding in the shadows of these two main events are four charming little "duets." These are no mere "fillers" but delightfully catchy, two-part inventions that Hewitt plays to full effect. Rounding out the program is a most unique "program music" piece by Bach thought written around the story of his older brother's departure ("Capriccio on departure of his brother"). In it, Angela Hewitt communicates both its nostalgic sentiments with her gentle, poinant phrasing and dynamics along with the piece's festive celebratory ending with her effective creation of trumpet and horn effects. In this unique composition, Hewitt succeeds to create a wonderful range of emotive effects in one piece.
Indeed, her carefree yet tight-on-the-rails style truly seems to bring out the best of Bach's keyboard treasures - transforming them into music of great vitality and charm. Her approach to Bach is one of artistry, nuance and good taste (not unlike Schiff) but without the "directness" or the "rough edges" that can be found in other performer's approaches (Gould and Gulda, respectfully). The many great Bach performers through the last decades have given us many "pallates of color" to experience, and Hewitt's colors are most notably beauty of tone, a poetic flavor, and graceful fluidity of line at its heart. It is no wonder that Angela Hewitt has been heralded as "the premier Bach pianist of this generation." Just about any recording of Bach's keyboard music by Angela Hewitt is a safe bet for being among the top choices available, and this CD is certainly no exception. It received the highest marks from both Gramaphone and Penguin Guides while ClassicsToday gave it a perfect 10/10 for Artisty/Sound Quality. In all her Bach recordings from Hyperion, the sound quality of this recording is among the fullest and most realistically recorded (where some other recordings like her Couperin, WTC or French Suites are done with a touch more "spaciousness" but still with clarity). Also a highlight are the scholarly and detailed notes delineating the nuances of the various "dance" types that Bach encorporated into his compositions. In all, an emmensely satisfying recording from a top Bach pianist of our time. Highly recommended.
Solid, balanced and refined Bach from Angela Hewitt........2002-04-23
After enjoying her performance of the final quarter of the WTC on the "BBC" 2000 Bach DVD, I decided to have a closer look at Hewitt's development since her debut DG recording of Bach works, that she made after winning the sacrilegious Gould Bach competition in 1985.
That debut cd contained among other works the Italian Concerto, the B flat Capriccio and the Duets. After winning this competition she told in an interview that Sviatoslav Richter was her greatest example when it came to playing Bach, a preference that showed in her first recording.
This rerecording of some of the Bach works shows both plusses and minuses. Overall there is more emphasis on the musical structures and a relinquishing of "low-level" romanticisms. I think the Italian Concerto clearly benefited from this approach. There is a good sense of the architecture and excellent use of the piano to the benefit of the piece.
Based on the thematic background of the piece, I have always been very fond of Hewitt's DG rendition of the B flat Capriccio. While this current version is probably more "historically correct", I do miss the slightly melodramatic tong-in-cheek twist of her earlier recording.
The E major Capriccio is a work that you normally only encounter in "complete" sets and gets a royal treatment here. The final bars could have benefited from a little more virtuosic abandon, but this is a matter of nit picking.
Both Hewitt's previous recording on DG and Schepkin's version on Ongaku are excellent renditions of the Four Duets. I really miss some of the necessary drama in this new version. Take the G major for example. While the opening is perfect, she does too little in exploring the dramatic potential of Bach's masterful modulations.
Finally, the French Ouverture. This work and the 6th Partita are my favorite Bach suites. Both of them have a harmonic language that sets them apart from their counterparts. For different tastes there are two standard performances. There is Sviatoslav Richter and there is Gould, with in my opinion one of the best Bach performances on record. Comparing Hewitt's version with the ones by these two dudes leaves one with a distinct "Bach Lite" aftertaste.
The Ouverture is a work in which the mature Bach for once wrote a suite along the line of his contemporaries to show mankind what true knowledge of harmony and counterpart could do with this form. Whereas the work is founded on techniques that he had explored as early as his keyboard Toccatas and later in his Partitas, Bach infused them here with a unique harmonic language that turns this piece in a musical equivalent of one of Rembrandt's chiaroscuro pieces. Just pull out the score and see for yourself how much drama Johann Sebastian could squeeze into a simple Passepied.
Hewitt's approach is balanced and clean, but simply too clinical for this piece. Moreover, the "Concerto Grosso style" fugal section of the opening section lacks the type of coloring, that she normally excels in. The same is true for many of the other danses, especially the Sarabande.
For all who like there Bach, balanced, musical, and free of manierisms this generous well recorded cd comes with the highest recommendations. Hewitt is a top notch Bach performer who has the goods, knows her stuff and never falls to Schiffian levels of triviality, Gavrilovian Narcissism, or gets lost like Mr. Murray. Yet, especially in the Ouverture her perspective is a little too cool to bring out all the drama of the piece.
Outstanding CD of great music.......2001-02-09
This CD is as wonderful as all the other installments in Angel Hewitt's Bach series on Hyperion. Her playing is always clear, but always enjoyable and never hard to listen to. The CD is 79 minutes and nicely presented, with good notes. This CD is a must for anyone who likes Bach's keyboard music, even if you prefer the harpsichord. I have many recordings of Bach which I enjoy, including Schiff, Gould, and Tureck. But I find myself returning to Hewitt most often. Her recordings of the Well-Tempered Clavier and the Goldberg variations are my desert-island discs. The new version of the Penguin Guide awarded the Rosette to both volumes of her WTC (replacing Schiff), and the award is richly deserved.

Bach Organ Works - Helmut Walcha.......2007-01-05
I never thought I would like Bach's organ works as they can be dense and daunting. However, if you can get onto Bach's wavelength, he can transport you to an electric cosmos of beauty and enlightenment. I was given a collection of Bach organ LPs by Helmut Walcha some time ago. My friend said that Germans regard Walcha as the premier interpreter of this music. He certainly knows how to play the organ and this music soars in his hands. This music is more varied than most people imagine. Some is extremely simple and delicate while some crushes your brain! I have always loved Archive recordings and these did not disappoint!
Glorious.......2006-07-01
Helmut Walcha was named my TIME as "the" Bach interpreter for organ. I think that is true more than ever today with all the influences of the French Romantic school, the slam-dunk American style and the avant garde crowd. The recording has a German sound, quintessentially Teutonic in both style and approach. While Bach sounds different and even magnificient on an Aristide Cavaillé-Coll organ it does not sound authentic - or as we perceive authenticity.
The fact that the artist is blind(!) means that unlike other folks who can use the music as aids, he must rely on his phenomenal memory. This is truly the stuff of genius. The sonatas are brilliant and I have never heard a better B Minor Prelude & Fugue. I only with that his stupendous "Kunst der Fuge" could have been transferred from record to CD.
Religious experience........2006-03-04
This set of many Bach's Organ works by Helmut Walcha is, in my opinion, the greatest recording of these immortal treasures. There are almost all of Bach's Preludes and Fugues for organ, as well as many fantasias, miscallenous works and his chorals for this instrument. Walcha plays with utmost respect to the original scores, his playing is clear and powerful. Many other organists have allowed themselves quite a bit of experiment with these pieces (likes of Ton Koopman are over the top), but in the end, i've always came back to Walcha's renditions. If you want to treat yourself with some of the greatest music ever written, then get this rare set! Bach's organ music can be challenging at first, especially the fugues, and many of my friends have complained that they hear nothing else than noise in these pieces. I suppose you have to have listened this kind of music for quite some time, before you can wholly appreciate these unique pieces. But once you have, you find a world full of riches and wonder, world which only Bach can bring you. And this is a world i wouldn't change for any riches in the world.
A real bargain at under $100.......2005-12-20
It is hard to express in words what an incredible achievement this is. The immense feats of memory alone, demanding far greater efforts than sighted performers face, command our respect. So does the consistent quality of Walcha's playing.
Bach's almost mathematical absorbtion with fugue lies at the centre of his genius. He was an organist first and foremost, an organist all his life. Like Bach, Walcha is an obsessive controller who uses music to shape his world. He treats each piece as a treasure to be cherished and burnished, and this makes him the greatest Bach organist since Schweitzer. We are told that Bach would travel miles to hear great organists perform, and Helmut Walcha is just such an organist as those.
The magnificent instrument used here is celestial in tone. To those for whom Bach fugues conjure up images of Christopher Lee playing Dracula, or dull Sundays in church, here is one of the great achievements of Western civilization, a glittering pinnacle of Baroque art, performed by a great modern spirit, in one handy box. You can't have Michaelangelo ceilings in your home, or Bernini bronzes in your living room, but by golly, you can put this on your stereo.
Heavenly music.......2005-02-23
I'm not a big organ music fan- maybe it's because it reminds this atheist too much of church! But the music here by Bach, and especially the playing by Walcha are just fantastic. I was dubious that I could find interest in 11 CDs of organ music, but I'm enthralled by every minute of each disc. A wonderful bargain!

Marie-Claire Alain is not only one of the greatest organists alive today, but she stands directly in a what is undoubtedly the world's greatest tradition of organ playing. It was France that first rediscovered and cultivated Bach's organ music, and which in turn stimulated the great works of Franck, Widor, Vierne, and their school. Alain has recorded Bach's complete organ music no less than three times, here on historical organs of Bach's own time. Each disc is planned as a recital that showcases both the music and the instrument. Her performances are simply the last word in style, musicianship, and virtuosity. Magnificent. --David Hurwitz
Customer Reviews:
Complete set CD review of Bach.......2007-05-12
I discovered Bach organ music 40 years ago. I love Bach, everything he wrote. I have 4 complete sets of Bach organ recordings. Marie Claire-Alan is my favorite organist of everyone I have heard. I met Marie and her husband in person after a performance she gave in Chicago. I have 2 complete sets of Bach organ played by Marie. One is on records and the other the new CD set. She is a little older now when she recorded the CD's. The albums have a more youthful sound to them, a little more energy and different registration selection on the organs. I love Marie in her youthful recordings more than these. I love the albums so much I will digitize them and listen to them over the new CD collection. I play the albums on my Linn turntable through McIntosh equipment.
The Definitive Collection of Bach .......2005-09-25
Marie-Claire Alain has recorded Bach's complete organ music 3 times, this set being the second time. She plays quite differently now, but these are some of the best interpretations. Each cd fearures a different organ dating from Bach's time, and all of the booklets are filled with pictures, history, and even the stop registrations for each of the pieces are given. Quite alot of research! If those of you who are new to Bach's organ works, I would recommend starting on a smaller scale, as some of these works can be quite intense to listen to. At any rate, this possibly may go down as one of the famous recordings of the century.
Monumental Artistry.......2003-03-08
Although I am partial to the Romantic Organ, particularly in the vein of Widor, Vierne and Rheinberger, it all begins with Bach. And in this case, one could say that it all begins with Marie-Claire Alain and her wonderful interpretations. Alain seems to understand that Bach was above all else a religious composer. Many "complete" works of Bach play short shrift with the liturgical works whereas these are some of the most satisfying of the group.
The sound is pure sonority, almost perfect, and the technical prowess is just awesome. Out of the millions of notes played, I never heard a miscue or slight jiggle. Still, keyboard wizardry is only part of the story. The registration is a work of art in itself. Alain understand the difference between the Baroque and the Modern, the French and the German and the old and the new. Just as she is a "natural" for Widor or Vierne, she also seems to have entered the Bach mind on some of these.
This is a fabulous collection worthy of any serious student of classical music. Nowhere can one derive such satisfaction that listenting to Bach played by Ms. Alain.
A Happy Sacrifice.......2001-06-30
I gladly sacrificed two of the four speakers in my car to this wonderful, wonderful treasure. What more can I say?
Bach on the Organ.......2001-06-23
What? Just 2 reviews?? I've had this set for close to 4 years. Where do I start..... To tell the story of Bach and the organ, I must start at the beginning. I harbor no pretext of being an authority at all, in fact I really didn't know Bach till a few years ago.
One day, I chanced to buy a CD with an assortment of classical music. I did that once every so often, since classical CD's are so cheap. I slipped it into my car not knowing at all what I'd just stumbled on. The second piece on this CD was music of an order I had not yet before encountered. To boot, I had just installed a new subwoofer in the car. Then this organ piece comes on.
My friends. From that moment, I was a different person. It didn't hit me as hard initially, but I couldn't let go of this stupendous work of such magnificence. For days on end, I would play this one piece of organ music. Treasuring it as a jewel. I couldn't get over how grand, how utterly wonderful this work was, from every single note to it's entire whole. I've always enjoyed music, but this was something else. It made me feel miniscule. How could anyone.... I'm a financial consultant, and gosh did this make me feel worthless. Alright, I'll let you know which it was --Toccata and Fugue in D Minor (Dorian) for the organ. Not even one of Bach's major pieces. This was Miklos Spanyi on organ who did this. Marie-Claire does a good job on this set, but I had heard it first on the other recording, and you know it's never as good as the first time.
Brethren, this wasn't the end. After a few weeks of listening to this, I kid you not, I would break down like a child when I played it. Sobbing and crying. Weeping uncontrollably. I'm a grown man, but it happened. I could not understand. I could not remember breaking down this way, so violently, since I was young boy. I am not a sop at all, one of those guys with a soft feminine side........no, no, no. This is what Bach can do to you.
I was listening to angels. I could see them. No way I'll write my full name here in case this gets out. If I listened to it in the car, I would have to stop when Bach's counterpoints started their agonizing attacks of sheer splendor. I would stop the car on the side of the road, racked in sobs. I stopped listening to it in the morning going to work because my eyes would be red when I got into the office. In oblivion, driving home one night I did get a speeding ticket.
I would be convulsing in anguish. As the Toccata builds to its end, Bach brings your pitiful soul through a wavy staircase lined with golden crescendos that don't seem to end. He then takes your wretched spirit, once strong, but piteous in the face of such perfection, and places it on the doorstep of the Fugue. At this grand entrance on the cadence, at this very point I would invariably be out of control, bawling like a babe.
It was then I needed to see who this Bach was. Then I see a complete set of Bach Organ Works by a renowned organist. I was trembling when I got the set. It's about 3 years now, and I have since learned how to control myself. I am sorry I talk about Bach's organ and his effect on me, but please, I was just describing one gem. This is the collection. Buy it and be immersed in wonder.
There is good literature that goes with the set. If you are looking for sentiment and give up a little bit of quality, you'll notice some difference. The recordings are excellent, but the idea of this grand project was to have it on a baroque organ, sounding like it would back then.
They do mention the need for the organist to have to coax and cajole the instrument, unlike the modern electronic machines. The recordings are on a restored organ, which at first made me a little disappointed, but after a while you realize it presents the organist's talent quite a bit more. I also love hearing the slight sounds of the stops in the background - just that added sense of needing to be on earth before reaching glory.
Thank you Alain

Customer Reviews:
Bach for professional listeners.......2006-01-30
What I found amazing about this boxset is the opportunity to enjoy Bach in complete form. From my point of view Passacaglia performed by Werner Jacob is a five star performance. Also BWV 593 and BWV 596 push up and show up no limits for the listener. This 16 CDs aggregate the perfect union between the artist, instrument, listener and Bach. And at the end of the day I can say that organ works can still be ... trendy. Enjoy!
Bach Organ Works on original organs.......2004-10-24
121 organ tracks or works on 16 CDs has to be spaced out in about six days. The music is so restful I found myself dowsing. The price for a new set through Amazon was right. Bach organ hymns made Luther.

A Major Document of an Incredible Oeuvre..........2007-03-12
.
Of over 600 songs, Fischer-Dieskau and Gerald Moore realized over three-quarters: these are those. Gerald Moore was of course as important to this project as Fischer-Dieskau.
DGG's sound is excellent.
This set is a remarkable document of art.

essential to any keyboard library.......2005-11-26
Evegeni Koroliov is an awesome Bach player whose output includes The Art of Fugue, Goldberg Variations, Inventions & Sinfonias, & the WTC. Hopefully he will eventually record the English & French Suites as well as the Partitas. This disc, unlike some of the others, is readily available & also a great introduction to Koroliov's approach to Bach. His treatments have unbelievable rhythmic drive & color - nothing dry or monochromatic here; and the recorded sound is gorgeous. Five stars is not enough....

Written at a time in Schubert's life marked by personal and professional misfortune as well as by devastating ill health, many of these songs--volume 35, with which Hyperion's magnificent complete edition of Schubert lieder approaches its conclusion--are somber, despondent, mournful, and despairing, which makes the few sunny, serene ones all the more poignant. There are several settings for groups of male, female, or mixed voices and several dramatic ballads. One, called "Prayer," is almost an opera, composed in a single day during a visit to the estate of the Esterhazy family, all of whom sang well. Most of the songs are unfamiliar, but nonetheless beguilingly beautiful. Evoking mood, atmosphere, and almost visible images with all the melodic and harmonic magic of vintage late Schubert, they often turn literary dross into musical gold. The English singers' German diction is admirable, but the singing varies; Thomas Hampson and Neal Davies stand out. The ensembles are excellent and include such luminaries as Simon Keenlyside, Ian Bostridge, and John Mark Ainsley; why they sing no solos is a mystery. Pianist Graham Johnson, the series' guiding spirit, is splendid. His copious, detailed program notes are informative and fascinating, musically and historically. --Edith Eisler
Customer Reviews:
Too much contemplation.......2000-08-21
This is a good performance indeed, but I aspire a more spontaneous one. Lieder here are all pearls, they are numbered D7xx or D8xx. And everyone who had listened enough Schubert will automatically knew that almost every lieder numbered D7xx or D8xx was a masterpiece. But alas, lieder here are performed with too much contemplation, so it sounds a bit artificial. In my opinion, even Schubert was in his most serious, his lieder always shone with sparkles, they were naturally brought out from the heart, not the brain. The "Lachen und Weinen","Du bist the Ruh" here all sounds very calculated. Graham Johnson is still on his high level, excellent piano and brochure.
