About the Artist
At the foot of the Verrazano Bridge lies Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, home to the Lordz of Brooklyn and a world of co-existing extremes: wealth, poverty, love, hate, delight, doom, suburbia, city, diversity, sameness. Growing up in the ‘70s and ‘80s, Lordz founder Mike "Mr. Kaves" McLeer discovered his turf wasn't always easy to navigate. But he understood his neighborhood and its contrasts, and he used that insight to help the Lordz find success.

To compensate for the lack of after-school activities in their blue-collared neighborhood, kids began using the train yards as their playgrounds, spraying subway cars with their self-styled art. "For kids like us, graffiti wasn't vandalism, it was a strong shot of glory and a positive expression of our creativity," he says. "I learned the art of competition and worked hard to be innovative with my lettering styles."

Now exposed to that underground world, Kaves and his crew (which included his brother Adam "ADM" McLeer) were exposed to one of early hip-hop's other innovations - breakdancing. "We were the first kids in our neighborhood to start breakdancing," Kaves remembers. "And it was the last thing people expected to see -a bunch of white kids spinning on their heads." The positive reaction kept them going, and they soon discovered rap.

"I got arrested in the mid-‘80s for writing graffiti," he admits, "so I started to get more involved in making music. Around the same time, Adam began deejaying and the two of us started throwing parties. I promoted this Public Enemy concert" Kaves explained. "At the time, Public Enemy didn't even know they had a white audience. But to me, meeting Chuck D was like meeting Gene Simmons or Michael Jackson. I was on Cloud 9." The two became friends, and Chuck D eventually asked Kaves if knew how to rap. A demo tape exchanged hands and "from that day on, I knew I had an outlet to tell my stories," said Kaves. "We started out as the Verrazano Boys, which was just me and Adam, who was the deejay," Kaves explained. "We used to rhyme in local clubs for fun, but nine times out of ten, brawls would break out."

While shopping their demo in the early 90's Kaves met House of Pain, which then led to European tour dates with Everlast and his crew and an album in 1995, ALL IN THE FAMILY (American Recordings). The Lordz's first single, "Saturday Night Fever" was an homage to the Bay Ridge-set John Travolta film that made their neighborhood famous. The song was later featured in both an episode of MTV's Beavis and Butthead and in the 1997 independent film, Gravesend. With the album and single's release, Kaves hit the road again - this time with his own crew.

Aside from touring in the U.S. and overseas, the Lordz have kept busy by putting out an array of new tracks. They collaborated with respected underground rap artist Freddy Foxxx on "Lordz of Brooklyn Meets Bumpy Knuckles," (Landspeed Distribution). Another high-profile collaboration was the ADM-produced remix of the Busta Rhymes/Ozzy Osbourne single "Iron Man," off of Busta's 1999 double platinum CD, E.LEE.

The Lordz of Brooklyn are moving forward, creating sonic new plans for the future. Up next is their long-awaited second album, Graffiti Roc, which is full of stories inspired by life in their blue-collar neighborhood and the hope of better days to come. The album features appearances by Everlast, Busta Rhymes, Freddie Foxxx, Rampage, Lord Finesse, OC and a bonus Korn Remix of the song "White Trash." It also includes a cover of Run DMC's "Sucker MC's," a collaboration with Everlast produced by ADM. (Originally released on Republic/ Universal's compilation, Take a Bite Outta Rhyme - a Rock Tribute to Rap. In November 2000, the song was the #2-ranked addition to The Album Network's 116-station alternative radio listings.) The Lordz's version of "Sucker MC" is so good that Run himself said it was one of the best remixes he's ever heard of his songs.

1 out of 5 stars What a letdown!!.......2007-04-20

This is one of the worst albums I have ever heard. I did not like 1 track on it, and I can't say that about any other CD I've purchased. Their 1st album was really very good, but this doesn't even resemble that one. They're down to 2 guys, and those 2 don't even sound the same as they did on the 1st. If you have any respect for the Lordz of Brooklyn, just pretend they only made one album, and that this one doesn't even exist.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome!!!!!.......2003-11-04

This album is white hot all around. The lyrics are heart felt and the melodies draw your in. Their first album, was more "hard." This album shows that they have grown up a lot in the past 8 years. I just hope it is not another 8 years before they come out with a new one. :)

If you do buy this CD please listen to the song "Momma's Boy" first. If it doesn't touch you then you must not have a beating heart.

5 out of 5 stars LOB is Evolving and are Standing Out.......2003-08-26

WOW....What a suprise this album was. although i liked All In The Family as they paved the way for acts like Kid Rock and Limp which i couldnt stand. but this album was the biggest suprise of the year in my opinoin. Its like Kaves and Admoney took a page from good friend Everlast and evolved as an artists to release a hell of a good album. On The Road highlites the album along with Sucker MC's. Anyone who thinks they heard the old LOB and didnt like it, should give it a second chance, these guys are talented. cant wait to see them live!

5 out of 5 stars GRAFFITI ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2003-07-28

THE LORDZ ARE BACK AND BETTER THAN EVER!! ITS ABOUT TIME THAT THERE IS SOMETHING FRESH AND NEW UNLIIKE THE CARBON COPY STUFF THAT IS OUT THERE NOW.THESE GUYS ARE ALWAYS STARTING NEW MUSICAL TRENDS FOR OTHER ARTISTS TO COPY!! THIS ALBUM PROVES THIER LYRICAL ABILITY AND WRITING ABILITY IS STILL STRONG.EVEN THOUGH I ENJOYED SCOTTIE EDGE AND PAULIE 2 TIMES ON THE FIRST ALBUM I DO NOT MISS THEM ON THIS ALBUM.THE TWO BROTHERS DEFINETLY HOLD THEIR OWN ON THIS NEW ALBUM. I'VE RECENTLY SEEN THEM ON THE WARPED TOUR AND THEY ROCK!!!!!!!WELL WORTH THE $$$ I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT TO EVERYONE.

5 out of 5 stars This album is hot.......2003-07-27

I think this album is even better than the first album (which I bought back in 1995). I think the Lordz have come back! Better than before. There are so many hits on this record. This album is way more musical than the first, if you listen close you can hear all the instruments that are going on in the background. I am so glad I bought it and now I want to see them play live.
