Now THIS is Hip Hop!.......2005-06-29

Too many times is the world of rap music lost with all the Bullish they talkin' about. I am from Brooklyn, NYC by the way of the NJ state now and Hip Hop is boring. Especially on the radio. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ----oooops, I fell asleep talking about Hip Hop. These brothers from the left side rip it up. J5, The Breakestra, Ozomalti and the rest of the music on this cd is tight! I am glad to see that brothers and sisters still like to use funky break beats. Reminds me when we use to breakdance back in the 80's (don't ask me now, something WILL break!). For those who like raw beats and funky Hip Hop-Get It, You won't regret it. Ahh, dope rhyme, huh?

West Coast Hip-Hop at its Finest.......2001-07-30

Hip-Hop compilations are plentiful, but rarely does one come along with just the right mix of Hip-Hop, Funk, and Jazz all blended into one. Not only does the Funky Precedent accomplish this mix, but it perfects the blend.

Songs like Cut Chemist and Miles Tacket of the Breakestra - S.N.T [Live at Peacepipe] are upbeat jam sessions with funky bass and cello solos as well with Cut Chemist from Jurassic 5 adding skratches to compliment the whole sound.

If you enjoy Jurassic 5 as well as James Brown, if you prefer DJ skratching and top-notch lyricism, or if you are a fan of Hip-Hop in general, this is a compilation that is not to be missed.

A wicked collection of the latest underground hip-hop sounds. Miles Tackett and Cut Chemist bring soul back into mix. Charles Raggio, the producer, has done a masterful job of crafting a most excellent alubm.

bad music - good cause.......2000-01-18

i like progressive styles. not regressive middle of the road boring styles. this cd has a very tepid mix of some LA artists.

i regret buying this cd. i fully support education - but i dont want to support artists making timmid music.

there are a lot of la funk/hip hop artist taking big risks and making crucial music. im gonna give my money to them

Tight as can be.......1999-10-08

Hip hop fans unite. This is one of the best, if not the best hip hop compilation of the year. I am feeling this start to finish. The Ugly Duckling and Black Eyed Peas tracks are the standouts if there is such a thing. Breaking New Artist Alert: Miles Tackett has 3 contributions on this album and he proves himself with the true hip hop elite. He jams on a cello like I have never previously heard. If you are truly feeling hip hop this is a must buy.

On their outstanding first volume, the folks behind Funky Precedent swung the spotlight on the new L.A. underground. The second volume focuses on the Bay Area. While there's certainly no shortage of talent to draw from with the likes of Planet Asia and the Hiero's Pep Love, Vol. 2 lacks the same cohesiveness of its predecessor despite some outstanding songs. Zion I and Amp Live's collaboration on "We Got It" boasts an infectiously snappy rhythm and strong lyrics. Likewise, the Bay Area's rich DJ community is well represented with Live Human ("Lagoona's Bliss Elephant Mix") and DJ Vinroc's "3ThaHardWay." Also represented are the esoteric stylings of Anticon with "Pity Party People" and the fierce, funky sounds of the Kemetic Suns on "We a Warrior." --Oliver Wang

A GREAT FIND.......2005-10-25

I will tell you right off the bat that I buy alot of compilations.Its the best way to discover great emcees and producers that you've never heard of.Alot of them can offer half a good album and every once in a while the whole album is bangin.Precedent 2 is bangin.This is what hip hop is all about.If you dont think hip hop can teach without sounding preachy then peep AZEEM on track 4.This album is full of great tracks and turntable demos.It has a great NY vibe.I love NY hip hop.Its where my heart lies.Its just the sound of it.Breakbeats with natural sounding samples combined with scratchin while an emcee ripes the track a new one.IT DOESNT GET ANY BETTER BOYS.All this computer sounding hip hop out there drives me up the wall.I hate 50,BAD BOY,ALL OF DEF JAM NOW,JAY Z AS OF LATE(how can people say the Black Album is his best.Ever heard Reasonable Doubt people),BLOW BUDDEN,LIL KIM,TONY YAYO,etc.The list goes on and on.Dont give up hope .Theres albums out there that still do it the way it was meant to be done.The Funky Precedent vol 2 is one of those.If your a fan of NY hip hop then grab this.It will make your day.GREAT LYRICIST.GREAT PRODUCTION.A GREAT FIND
