5 out of 5 stars This is Truly a Masterpiece and Best album ever! 10 stars.......2006-06-23

This CD is so amazing. It shows the soft and alot more of the heavier side of FFAF. Bend your arms to look like wings has such a awesome beat and is so meaningful. Every song on this CD kicks a** and is the best album ever
Great art work visually and Emotionally!
MASTERPIECE!

5 out of 5 stars 10432747365 times better than Hours.......2006-05-24

I thought this album was awesome. Hours sucked horribly. They sold out just like everyone else. Their "drunk" screamer is what made this band. Not some lame super emo cd. This is a screamo album so if you dont liek screaming dont listen to it. I thought the screams brought good contrast to this cd. In my opinion if you liked teh EP's then buy this. If you are one of these kids who hates any screaming and loves bands who sell out then check out Hours. So basically if u think ur cool because u got on the FFAF Hours bandwagon dont waste your time with this.

3 out of 5 stars Lame is the only word to describe this.......2006-05-22

Now don't go discounting my opinion because I usually listen to harder music. I very much like emo LIKE this. Just not this CD in particular.

This is one of those typical run-of-the-mill emo releases (release, not "effort" it hardly seemed like they tried at all) that's not very catchy, interesting or even good for that matter. The only reason it gets 3 stars from me is for two ABSOLUTELY AMAZING tracks.

Bend Your Arms to Look Like Wings is definitely NOT standard of the rest of the CD. This song is actually good. Even the title suggests something meaningful. Aside from being catchy it has a melody and actually progresses through to the end. And what an end it is!! The outro is so beautiful. The interval at which the notes are played just strikes a chord inside of me, it makes me want to cry and scream at the top of my lungs.... at the same time.

Rookie of the Year. One of the greatest songs ever written. Period. It's a powerful, beautiful track about friendship and how you can care about someone so much. You can't beat that. You couldn't ask for a better song.

I obviously like this kind of music or otherwise I probably wouldn't like those two songs. Like I said, I like emo because I like good, well written, powerful music. Unfortunately that DOESN'T describe the rest of this CD. If you like lame, totally uninspired music like Taking Back Sunday, Brand New or A Thorn for Every Heart go ahead and get this you'll probably like it. But if you actually like good, well written music you'll download those two songs and go someplace else and not waste your time with the rest of this CD.

5 out of 5 stars why the haters?.......2006-05-17

I actually prefer this album to Hours. I guess that puts me in the minority. I thought Casually had more of an edge to it than Hours, grimy if you will. Hours was a good album, but seemed more polished in a slicked up production sense. Some people prefer that as you can see from the reviews, but don't be deterred, Casually is an excellent album.

2 out of 5 stars A very overrated album by an amazing band.......2006-03-17

I should of listened to Forest from ISU. I bought "Hours" and was so floored, I figured I would give "Casually..." a try. What a mistake. This album is so spotty it boggles the mind that this band made the work of art "Hours". This album should be called "Casually Overated & Deep in Mediocrity". This band is absolutely amazing, dont get we wrong, but this album was just a stepping stone to get noticed and produce better work. The effect of this album makes you want to listen to it less and less. "Hours" gets better and better every listen. I find myself waking up with songs from "Hours" stuck in my head. Everything about this album is a few notches below "Hours". From the substandard vocals, to the plain guitars, to the average drums. Now maybe I wouldnt be so critical of this album if I didnt hear Hours but I guess this pales in comparision so much, its laughable. If you want to buy this album, do it in support of a great band getting better and dont expect to get much more out of it than that.

1 out of 5 stars Worst Celly album I've heard.......2005-08-05

There is not one good song on this album. Its a total disappointment from Celly and a waste of money. I expected much more from this great artist but unfortunately he doesn't deliver on this one. Even the song with Kurupt is lackluster. Try getting G Filez or Its Real Out Here from Celly, they are much better and what you would come to expect from him.

3 out of 5 stars Ok 4th solo album From Celly Cel.......2005-06-27

After 2 years since his last relases and leaving Jive/Sick Wit it Records he returns with an ok album. My least favorite of his first 4 solo albums. As always his lyrics are ok but the production on this one isn't really up to par either. Of the 13 songs, I skip 1, 4 are pretty good, and the others are ok. Production is handled by G-Man Stan on 3 songs, Charlie Doyle on 8 , and D.J. Fingaz, and Bosko each do 1. Guests are on 4 songs rapping and do the hook on 2 others. If you're a huge fan of his check it out, otherwise I'd pass it up, it's not his best work.

5 out of 5 stars CELLY CEL IZ BACK BETTER THAN EVER!.......2000-12-16

After more than 2 years Celly Cel is back with a new album. This time it's on his own label Realside Records. He left his former label "Sick Wid It" where he dropped his first 3 albums. You might think that not being on a major label would hurt Cel. However, his new album is his best ever! He comes out better than ever, you can feel the hunger and motivation he has for success. Celly Cel brings you the Bay Area flave all over the album and his lyrics about hustlin', gangbangin', women and the rap game will always hold your attention. His voice is one of the most unique in the rap game, and this combined with his sick flow and lyrics give you one of the top rappers these days. The album is a perfect one - a short album with 12 songs, but unlike many albums these days, all the tracks are flawless - no inferior and supperior songs on this album. You can see Celly Cel put A LOT of work on this album. The beats on the album are some of the best I've heard in a while. Kurupt, WC, Young Bleed and Grip all drop some nice appearences, yet still get outshined by Cel. Get this album which is one of the best ones this year and support the independent Bay Area Rap game.

    4 out of 5 stars respect it.......2000-08-16

It's been two years that I waited celly cel album, having no news from him since he did not appeared on the latest sick wid it releases, so I wa quiet disspointed before listening this album but now I can tell U one thing : this album is dope too. All the songs have a bay area flava, celly cel keeps his orginal flow and there are less guets than in the g filez and that's better. few guests are Dub C, kurupt and young bleed and all did their jobs. THis album reminds me "killa kali" but with a more introspective and serious celly. That's the G filez best album.

Everything Jean's review from 2002 is spot on, in fact,it beat Harry Pearsons sparkling review of it in The Absolute Sound mag. by 3 years. Worth buying, if just to show how good a cd can really sound.Super!

    5 out of 5 stars Legendary !.......2002-04-12

MERCURY sound. At it's best, at it's fullest.

A super recording. Orchestral music like you've never heard before . . . in your home. Right, the better the stereo equipment the more you are likely to hear tons of details out of the microscopic hills and valleys of this glorious cd. However, a more modest hi-fi system will make it as well, at least to reveal the essential of the music. It all comes from the legendary "Golden Age" LP era. The album, issued by Mercury/Philips (a package of two discs), has GLORIOUS sound--as much as good as the vinyl LP. To be underlined, a very nice job at remastering those LEGENDARY archives, thanks to Wilma Cozart and the Mercury team. For orchestral music that one is a good reference cd (the sound is almost lifelike). Howard Hanson's music is delightful ; he's got a solid reputation as a composer and is a skillful conductor. One of my best picks in American music. The 'Merry Mount' is a wonderful work.*****

    4 out of 5 stars A Classical Composer's Tool Kit.......2000-07-21

This 2-CD set provides a unique opportunity to hear the late American composer, Howard Hanson, talk about how he approached the orchestration of symphonic works. On disk 1, several of Hanson's works are performed (conducted by the composer), including the Merry Mount Suite, Mosaics, For the First Time and Concerto for Piano. On the second disk, Hanson de-constructs The Children's Dance from Merry Mount, explaining his intent as a composer and orchestrator, with each set of instruments highlighted by including them one at a time as their colors are blended from the composer's palette. This is an invaluable aid to aspiring composers, and also to any student of music who wants to understand orchestration in a step beyond Peter and the Wolf, and Britten's Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra.

5 out of 5 stars the best of british.......2005-02-01

Listening to bands such as Taking Back Sunday, Atreyu and other such quality US acts, i thought i might listen to FFAF , and quite frankly ,am i glad that i did. This 11 track release is simply the best UK album for many a moon. Not so highly touted as fellow Welsh rockers Lost Prophets, FFAF are streets ahead when it comes to class, originality, talent, musicianship and all other aspects that go to make up top notch rock acts in this genre. This follows on from the earlier album Seven Ways ....(which has a couple of tracks carried over onto this full-length album). The album moves effortlessly into the groove with opener Rookie Of The Year , and really bites into an evener higher gear with the truly magnificent Juneau( one of the albums real killer tracks).Other barnstorming tracks keep on coming (including the phenomenal Escape Artists Never Die---and this track/band certainly never will). Even the beautiful ballad Your Revolution Is A Joke is so magnificently performed/carried off and full of heartfelt emotion that as soon as the tracks have finished it leaves you with an irresistable urge/need to play them again.
As i am British, it is great that we now have a band that can actually stand comparision with the many superb US/Canadian bands in this field (and i cannot wait for their next tour/follow up record to this beauty.

5 out of 5 stars The best thing to come out of England since The Beatles.......2005-01-01

When I first heard of this band, it was in their early stages forming on the highly influential indie record label Ferret Records (think A Static Lullaby, Killswitch Engage, FATA). They have only improved since. As one fan states on FFAF's UK website, "I love FFAF like i love toast." And the English do love their toast. FFAF comes at the listener full force with all the trappings of metal, emo, hardcore, punk, and even throws in the occasional acoustic melody. The lead singer, Matt Davies, exhibits a full range of vocal capability ranging from the metal like sing-screaming in "The Getaway Plan" (on their first U.S. ep, "Seven Ways to Scream Your Name") to achieving barbershop harmonies in "Your Revolution is a Joke." The rest of the band is technically perfect in their execution, and unlike most bands of their genre (if you must give them a genre), the chorus' are executed using riffs void of the usual powerchords, instead substituting complicated arpeggios at times when the listener least expects it. The added fact that the rest of the band sings as well only adds on to the enjoyment you can expect from listening to this band. I have never really known exactly why i derive pleasure from listening to music, but by listening to this album, the answer seems in closer reach than it has ever been. I would recommend this album to anybody who is ready to experience something different from the norm of popular indie culture and be transported to a land where music has no boundries except for the ones that are set. In short, FFAF is the best thing to come out of England since the Beatles.

      Product Description

"There is a place where sound and image enter a holy conversation; where human eyes and ears become like an ocean tide surrendering to a distant shore. Stu Jenks' powerful work is a vehicle for taking us to such a place. The deep longing flow of his soundscapes initiate us into a fluidity of heart, while his mysterious images --alluring photographs that express the potent and healing themes of nature and the soul's journey-- beckon us to take the next step; woven together, the work of this wizard of sound and space will transform you." --Frank MacEowen, Celtic wisdomkeeper, author of The Mist-Filled Path and The Spiral of Memory and Belonging

5 out of 5 stars I play this CD nearly every day..........2006-06-26

Not everyone sees the beauty in the desert. For some it is all bleak and dry and empty wasteland. Others, like Stu, who have the fortitude to take long and difficult treks down dusty roads, who have the patience to hold still until the sun moves a little lower in the sky, who see not just what's before the face but what's peeking from the corner of the eye - those lucky fey-touched few - see shimmering vistas and hear the desert breathe.

West of the Fire starts with such stillness that I wondered if my CD player was working. Abajo Mountain Hoop Dance (image) (story) is the sound of the lunar eclipse seen from an aspen forest. I find myself reaching for this sound over and over. I press the PLAY button and stretch into yoga. I press the PLAY button and let my fingers fly over the keyboard. I press the PLAY button when the stress builds and I need, desperately need to take a walk with Stu down some desert track that he knows.

Each one of the cuts on this CD is a brief journey. The sounds are simple and soothing. The Open Circle Cairn slows your heartbeat and footfall for careful consideration of sacred space. Sound echos as it does in tombs and cairns and caves. Cool. Still. Centered. When the mind enters here, the spirit follows.

Stu is an artist who wants to affect all sensory points. Many of his photographs and musical compositions are also accompanied by creation stories. Ride along with the intrepid Mr. Jenks in his 4 x 4, hike into the canyon, onto the cliff face, along the river bank. Stand just behind him (and a little way from the cigarette smoke) while he makes his mojo. At Molino Falls Blue shapeshift from man -- to bear -- to man opening the shutter -- to bear navigating waterslick rocks -- to man a mile away.

Aspens Ascending is a double image of aspens in snow and the trunks rising to the heavens. The music that goes with these photos and the stories, evokes the feeling of determined and steady travel. Step. And step again. Find your rhythm. Keep your pace. Who is walking with you even when you walk alone?

I believe that everyone will get the heaven or hell that they perceive they have earned. The triptych of images that make up If There's a Heaven, This is Heaven give you a glimpse into Stu's idea of paradise. There is a dimension of scope that only he remembers, but this is the next best thing to being in Coalmine Canyon Flats.

The views and sounds for West of the Fire diptych were discovered on a journey of a Million Steps. This is what reverence sounds like. This is serenity and a heartfelt desire as Stu puts it to "make my spirit bigger." Look at this image, listen to this tune, and feel quiet satisfaction.

Not all of Stu's images are desert landscapes. There is no story written (yet) about Rimpoche Allison Jones but I'm eager to read it when it gets written. I want to know more about this person behind the smiling, wrinkled face. And I very much want to know what are those rows in the far distance. Irrigation? Trees? I can't tell. But Mr. Jones's friendly face is focused on another horizon. And I'm sure that Stu will tell me when he reads this. I'll pass it along.

I scoured Stu Jenk's web site searching for a photo captioned Death Valley Hoop Dance and couldn't find it. I did, however find this "hoopdance," and it matches the fire dancing around the circle below a slowly dying sunset.

Canelo Lullaby is a cottonwood breeze at the end of the day, a warm cup of tea, and a lover's embrace. Comfort. Contentment. Closure.

5 out of 5 stars best screamo ever!!!!.......2004-03-15

This is the best cd i have ever listened to, they are the best screamo band ever. Every song on the cd is awesome. it has mainly heavier songs with amazing guitar leads, there are also a few slower songs. Bulet Theory , Escape Artists Never Die and Waking Up are the best songs on the cd.

5 out of 5 stars A New Band, Good Decision.......2004-02-11

I admit when I heard about FFF that it sounded like some samey emo rock band. But I gave it a chance and found it to amazing! They are by far in the top 15 bands to come over from England. Get this cd, u won't be disappointed.

        5 out of 5 stars Amazing.......2004-01-01

From start to finish this album is a classic. When I got it I was in HMV and saw in on the shelves for £8.99 and I had previously heard 10:45 Amsterdam conversation which is a great song, so I bought the album. I have always been a big fan of this kind of music. FFAF make bands such as Finch, Poison the Well, Hoobastank look tallentless. Every song is great, which is normally hard to find in an album. The best are Bullet Theory and Escape artists never die. They are the best songs my ears have ever heard.
        BUY IT!

        5 out of 5 stars F***ing awsome.......2003-11-20

All i can say is that this album rocks! , It has suck a good mixture of thrashy riffs and melodys. Ive been waiting a long time for a good emo-core cd to come out and this is it. This band deserves where they are now, Been listing to then since the days of "10:45 amsterdam convi". And i new this band would be big and now they are definantly making a name for themselves. I would really recommend this cd!

        5 out of 5 stars Amazing debut!.......2003-11-12

this is a great album, buy it,do i really need to say anymore?well ok then..
the first single, jeaneu,is a classic, great riffs, great vocals, great lyrics.the second single, she drove me to daytime tv,is just as good,in fact all the songs on this album are good.
theres never a moment in the album were you flick to the next track and its not very often you can say that about an album.id be very hard to inpress, esspecially when it comes to new bands,i kinda stick to what i know(korn, ill nino, bush, sinch)but this band make it onto that list.
