Very Solid 2 disc compilation album of songs f/ Daz - maybe 4.5 stars.......2005-08-15
Diz S*** BUMPIN.......2004-05-16
Daz strikes gold with "Featured Artist" compilation.......2004-02-28
On the first disc, Daz opens with an intro before jumping into a Fredwreck remix of Xzibit's Crip-walk anthem, "Git Cha Walk On" also featuring WC. All three artists come tight with dope verses and a solid hook while Fred earns his reputation as the West Coast's most well-kept secret in the production department. Daz closes out the song with a special shout-out where he praises his cousin, Snoop and the rest of Tha Dogg Pound while adding some less-flattering words for Suge Knight and the Death Row crew. L.T. Hutton comes through with some smooth production on "We Yell Hey Hoo", Daz's collaboration with No Limit's C-Murder (originally released as "Murder And Daz" on C's "Bossaline" LP). The hits don't stop there either as Daz links up with Hits From The LBC for "Here We Go Now" and Helter Skelter for "Who Wants To Be A Dope MC?". Also included is one of the few post-Death Row "Dogg Pound" reunion tracks as Snoop attempts to kill all the break-up rumors by joining back up with Daz & Kurupt on "Don't Be Foolish". The track is somewhat underwhelming considering its premise but overall, it's not bad. It's all followed up by "OG 2 Me" where the underrated duo of Daz and Kurupt join forces with the legendary Scarface for a trunk-rattling monster of a track. This was taken from Face's "Me & My Homies" compilation though Jayo Felony's verse was taken out due to his much-publicized problems with Tha Pound.
The second disc opens with a Battlecat remix of "It Might Sound Crazy", a single off Daz's Death Row debut, which features Bay area legend, Too $hort. The second track on disc two, "Your Love Is Tha S--t" featuring S.F.T.P. is a nice mixture of gangsta funk and 90's R&B. Daz's fantastic collabo with Soopafly, "Put The Monkey In It", a single from the Nothing 2 Lose soundtrack is another excellent addition. Perhaps the biggest standout track on the second disc is "Bustaz", a 19th Street Records posse cut featuring a host of LBC rappers including Tray Deee and Lil' C-Style paying homage to Ice-T's "Colors". Lil' Style's opening verse steals the show here. Daz also tries to show his range here by including "unofficial" remixes of Usher's hit single, "U Make Me Wanna" and Jennifer Lopez's "Play". The J-Lo remix seems like a poor attempt to make a commercial cross-over though hearing the clean-cut diva tell the DJ to play her "muthaf--kin song" is worth a listen or two as is Daz declaring on the outro that he is glad Lopez broke up with Puffy "so now he can get the p--sy". The inclusion of "Why Oh Why" featuring Warren G and Tha Dogg Pound will certaintly make this a worthwhile purchase for anyone who doesn't already own Warren's "I Want It All" LP.
If you're not a hardcore fan of Daz or that DPG sound then this album probably isn't for you. There is a nice mixture of rough and raw gangsta anthems, laid-back cuts, and some commercial-style music though, so even the most casual rap listener will more than likely find a few songs on either disc that will make their head nod. The idea of throwing together a collection of one artist's soundtrack and guest appearances (which actually dates back to Ice Cube's "Featuring Ice Cube" album) so that their fans can get a lot of their rare material without having to buy about fifteen different albums is actually a great idea that isn't used nearly enough, these days.
