The Disrupt [Explicit Lyrics]
Editorial Reviews

The large majority of underground releases seem to come off as either half-baked or overcooked, but the debut album by Oh No nails the balance just right. He's the younger brother of rapper-producer-eccentric Madlib, but Oh No has emerged as a formidable production and lyrical talent of his own. His quick, staccato verses are alert and energized, calling to mind the punch of SoCal peers like Dilated Peoples' Iriscience or the lively party style of Tha Liks. Here Oh No the rapper keeps pace with guests such as Wildchild and Medaphoar. Big bro Madlib spins the knobs on five tracks, including the stark, dramatic "Chosen One," but Jay Dee scores the album's most memorable beat with the spooky, spacey "Move." Oh No proves equally adept behind the boards, especially on the hyperactive "WTF" and smoothed-out "I Can't Help Myself." The Disrupt might be a debut album, but it sounds far more seasoned and mature than those of more veteran players. --Oliver Wang

Customer Reviews:
average disc from an average MC.......2006-03-02
"The Disrupt" from Oh No is not a bad album. It's just not a great album. I bought the CD knowing the Madlib association and I hate to say I'm a little disappointed. Oh No's vocal delivery is pretty tight, but he doesn't necessarily bring anything new to the table as far as lyrical content or flow. His delivery is well above average, but there's nothing that really "grabs" the listener.
I was also expecting much more "experimental" beats, for lack of a better word, more along the lines of the Madlib/Stones Throw vibe. The beats here, and again I'm sad to say it, are typically generic without much variety. Many seem to be stuck on an endless loop with a few sound clips/voices/general "rap gangster" stuff thrown in for good measure. Highlights include "WTF," "Take Another," and if you're into the rapper-meets-r&b chick check out, "I Can't Help Myself."
Overall it's not that I regret buying this album. There is enough on it to whet the palette of the average hip-hop fanatic, but not enough to keep 'em coming back for more. Being accustomed to listening to the likes Quas, MF Doom, Peanut Butter Wolf, etc, this one falls a little short. If you're on the fence, do yourself a favor and make sure you really want this before you click on that little "add to cart" button over there on your right.
no oh.......2005-11-06
Lyricly Oh No is more street than anybody else on Stones Throw, I'm not going to go into a lot of details on this album, the other reviewers pretty much said what needs to be said, but I will say this album has fantastic beats, #14 (I forgot the name of the track) is so ill it makes it worth picking this up alone, it still baffles me how Kankick is still such an overlooked producer in the scheme of things. Also Medaphoar's album is REAL dope, I'd recommend picking both albums up, if you like quality hip hop that you'll still enjoy years from now check this sh-t, otherwise keep buying Paul Wall, and Lil Jon CD's that you'll laugh at in a few years.
Whoa!.......2005-05-09
This one caught me by surprise! I heard it was Madlib's brother, and since I pretty much worship Madlib, I went out and picked this one up.
First of all, Oh No's lyrics are nothing special. He's better than Madlib on the mic, but let's face it.... everyone and his mother is better than Madlib. He's not bad; he's just average. But he's very charismatic.
That being said, this album is, of course, all about the beats. Madlib comes on strong as always, with that disjointed feel that makes me such a big fan of his. Listen to Right Now. The scratching is crazy. Oh No is a fine producer as well; his beats just don't have the "weed smoking" feeling that Madlib's do.
Rhymes: 3.5/5
Beats: 5/5
Overall: 8.5/10
An album worthy of your collection. Go out and buy it. Long live Hip Hop!
Madlabs Lil' Bro Back at it Aggin!.......2005-02-17
OhNo the disruptor is the 8th album by OHNO (me thinks its MF DOOM in disguise - the music is so spicy and herbed) and to date it is at least his finest, most thought provocative masterpiece to date! He has gathered his big brother Midlab and some friends called Med, JayDill and the c3pee crew, and smoked some trees in a lab somewhere to produce this cocophany of urban hymns using only the finest beats that the madvillainous crew can concoct with there metal masks on. I will give this one 9 thumbs up because one of the songs is about smoking weed!
Oh Yes.......2004-12-30
This album is superior. Beats are fresh and original sounding. I really haven't heard an album that has this same sound. It breaks new ground. Oh No also rips the album to shreds on the mic. Easily one of the top best hip hop albums I have bought this year.

this band changed my life.......2000-04-05
sitting in my room after hearing this album for the first time i was helpless. for a lack of a better phrase i saw the light. i knew now what i had to do. go grind-core. never has a band influenced me like them. everything i had done up till that moment ment nothing. this band marked a new beginning in my life and i would stongely suggest this album to any younge punk. disrupt changed my life track 1 - 30 was the greatest thing i have heard in the scene for a while!
relentless crust-core the stays consistantly vicious.......1999-08-19
Disrupt was one of the greatest crust-core, hardcore punk, crust punk bands to come out of New England, none the less the world. Their influence has been felt throughout underground hardcore and punk scenes across the globe. This CD is a true representation of their work. It has a rather surprisingly good sound quality to it and contains extra songs from some of their old releases for example their "Smash Divisions" seven-inch. This album is fast and vicious straight through the last song. Split male vocalists scream and growl about such topics as domestic abuse, vivisection, and the disease known as greed. For punk, hardcore, and metal fans this is a true treat, for everyone else its noise. Definitely check this album out!
An amazing band: sound great, great message, too........1999-03-17
These grindcore vegans from Massachusettes are among the best bands that has EVER existed! Seriously! Too bad they broke up (half of 'em are now in GRIEF). This CD defies description (because it's so damn good). If you like punk, hardcore or metal, this album is a must!

Album Description
This London group's 2003 debut, "The Neon Handshake", burst forth on an unsuspecting scene and went on to hit the UK top 20, garner rave press, and top year-end polls. The band's intense riffs, hooky choruses, and seamless blend of emo, punk, and alternative caught the attention of Sweden's Burning Heart label, where they now take their place beside such genre busters as Refused and International Noise Conspiracy. This, their label debut, showcases a band that continues to grow and reinvent themselves. Rock 'n' roll at its rawest, melodic, and breathtaking. For fans of At The Drive In, Bear Vs. Shark, and Sparta.
Customer Reviews:
Sufficient Rock Music.......2007-07-08
Perhaps Neon Handshake shines a bit brighter than this album on many levels. Though you cannot discount a few rock gems on Transmit Disrupt. Such as: "Kamichi" ; "Models For The Programme" ; "One Of Us" and "Silent As The Grave." The album is enjoyable in it's own right. Conveniently unpretentious.
Great Band, Great Album.......2007-07-07
If you like Sparta, Thursday, Thrice or any modern Post hardcore band you will enjoy this band.
More solid production from Sweden.......2006-06-23
I first heard this record late last year and just never picked it up because I thought there wasn't enough music for the pricetag. I walked into a used record store the other day (looking for Tom Petty of all things!) and found this for 5 bucks! It was a killer record day for sure. Anyway, I was mostly interested in this record because this is the latest production from Eskil Lovstrom and Pelle Henricsson. (Refused-The Shape of punk to come etc.) They really make this record a standout as they do with all their other work and I feel if it wasn't for them this record wouldn't be nearly as good.
That aside, this is a really good record. If it were lost or stolen I'd buy another at full cost because it has grown on me. Stand out tracks for me are "Kamichi" "Transmit Disrupt" and "Silent as the Grave" I would re-purchase this album for just those three tracks. Anyway, a good way to describe this band is (I feel) they are a perfect mixture of Bloc Party, Refused and Fugazi. If you like those bands you'll probably dig this record. I'm not saying they don't have their own thing going on, which they do, but they have elements of each afformentioned band and I dig all three...so it's no wonder I like it.
Bottom Line: A standout among others from last year, but not exactly a huge landmark record. Production is first rate. All tracks are worth listening to with some major standouts. Buy it.
Emo spreading to other countries? .... we're dooooomed...........2006-05-20
Proof that British emo bands can be just as irritating and awful as American ones. We saved this country in World War II and this is how they repay us??
