4 out of 5 stars Planet Asia= DOPE MC.......2005-10-01

This is Planet Asia's second album and if it werent for a couple poor atemtps at comercialism early on in the album this would be a bonafide classic I loved 95% of the tracks on this disc and found asia to be a pretty formidable lyricist I enjoyed his laid back street knowledge type flows that work really well with this type of west coast style on this CD. If you are a fan of Wild Child or The Alkaholiks you gotta check this guy out. while not a classic this is one of the west coast undergrounds finest.

5 out of 5 stars this kat is part of the underground movement .......2004-10-03

well i will not say this album is a disappointment i really like planet asia infact i see him on some days and yes i have talk to him .he is a dope azz emcee and he from cali hardly theres no dope emcees from cali.i would say emcee that i think are dope is planet asia, murs(living legends),abstract rude, grouch, nocando, and subtitle them kats is dope to me i dont know about yahh but im waiting on that planet asia king medallion mixtape..and for whoever think p.a is not tight what type of music you listen to?thank you

4 out of 5 stars Solid CD.......2004-08-27

Planet Asia is a very talented MC hailing from the Freson area of California although is flow is more east coast, almost Wu-Tang on certain cuts (Track #6)All in all, it is a very solid CD. A good 6 or 7 songs you will really enjoy. His underground roots show through as amateurish on some tracks such as Paper Up which just doesn't come off as polished at all. The top songs are all bangers though:
Right or Wrong: Excellent beat and smooth flow by PA
Real Niggaz: Asia holds his own with Ghostface, great song
Pure Coke: Wutang type flow over a Cali-type beat, blends well
Upside Down: Showcases his storytelling ability, solidifies his talent as a well rounded MC,not something every underground MC can pull off
Summertime in the City: Seems like Asia almost had a hard time finding his flow but I just love it as a kick back joint.

I lost this CD twice and bought it back both times, so it is good enough to get, trust me you will find songs you will love.

4 out of 5 stars THE KID IS NICE!!!.......2004-08-20

CALI HAS SOME HOT MC'S, BUT THIS KID IS ONE OF THE BETTR ONES I'VE HEARD. SOUNDS LIKE A COMBO OF BLACK THOUGHT AND OC. THE ALBUM HAS A STRONG EAST COAST INFLUENCE AND THE ONLY THING THAT KEEPS THIS ALBUM FROM BEING 5STARS IS MORE BIG NAME PROCUCERS. STILL A MUST BUY FOR ANY TRUE HIP-HOP FAN.

2 out of 5 stars disappointment.......2004-05-20

first off i think asia is one of if not the phatest mc's from CA. still in training was hot but this one i really wasnt feelin. i listened to it a couple times and the wackness still shined thru. no disrespects to asia i still think hes hot but grand opening isnt good at all.

5 out of 5 stars Hometown LEGEND holds it down with that REAL Hip-Hop!.......2003-09-07

Possibly Planet Asia's BEST WORK 2 date in my opinion.Planet Asia showcases VERY SHARP mic skillz on his self titled debut EP.Shreding every track with non-stop HOT flows Jason Green AKA "Bleedy Eyes" Holds down his hometown of FRESNO with the REALEST Hip-Hop & destroys all wack MC's in his path!Planet Asia contributes a MUCH NEEDED ROOKIE debut 2 the Hip-Hop game with this HOT joint!Don't get it twisted Planet Asia has been in the game payin' dues for years now!A much anticipated FULL-LENGTH album can only satisfy the hunger 4 Planet Asia's fanbase NOW!

    4 out of 5 stars Pretty dope.......2002-10-19

This CD is dope, definetley alot better than "the last stand"....when is Planet Asia going to release a new album already...

4 out of 5 stars The Vocabulistic Cali Agent.......2000-04-13

This EP is seriously dope. Being that Asia is in my opinion the best emcee, i obviously love this CD. He flips words unlike any other with an indescribable flow. The production is also pretty good; mellow and head nodding beats. The only thing that's bad about this record is the length; only 7 tracks. If you appreciate real hip hop though, this is a must-buy

4 out of 5 stars planet asia... ill MC.......2000-04-12

planet asia has raw lyrical skills on this joint but yo... the beats were incredibly WACK! i couldnt believe how bad they were i could only stand one. but i gave him 4 stars cause hes an ill mc. one.

    3 out of 5 stars Wack overall.......2000-02-15

The first song was cool ya know and then....it got worse. I thought the best beat was the first one and unfortunately you've gotta hear it again. His rhymes are tight, but the production crew leaves much to be desired. He should've stuck with Peanut Butter.

    4 out of 5 stars Overdosing........2007-02-06

Planet Asia has been a foundation of the West Coast underground movement for years, and has been one of my favorite below-the-radar emcees based on his rhymes, and flow alone; however, PA hasn't really released the classic album I know he's capable of yet. Grand Opening suffered from poor production, as did the majority of his albums that followed; the Medicine is the exception. The production, handled almost exclusively by Evidence with some guest producer-spots, is the best soundscape Asia's had to work with in his career thus far.

Planet Asia is one of the most talented pure emcees in the game, yet he never really establishes himself as the God emcee that his talents show he's capable of. Part of that may have to do with his limited subject matter; Planet Asia is almost strictly street-tales, and braggodocious boasts. His entire approach is almost punchlines; and while PA is definitely a very flexible emcee, he never really pushes himself. In other words, it's rather hard to get connected with Asia; he isn't breaking any new ground. He's solid, yes, but no new concepts are being introduced in his work that are going to influence future emcees, and he's basically saying the same thing every other cat in the underground is spitting.

Still, hip-hop isn't always about being revolutionary; sometimes, you just want some of the same thing you've been hearing, as long as it's delivered in a satisfying manner. Planet Asia spits the same thing cats like Juelz Santana are at the moment, yet he does it in a manner that will make a fan out of you. The malevolent, and boastful subject matter is definitely familiar territory, but Asia manages to handle it with enough flair to keep you listening.

Asia could still benefit from a producer more suited to his flow(DJ Muggs, perhaps?), but Evidence does a more than substantial job in his role, and Planet Asia continues providing the heat. The Medicine won't blow your mind, but it certainly isn't a weak offering; let's just hope it's a sign of better things to come from Planet Asia.

3 out of 5 stars Planet Asia - The Medicine .......2007-01-13

Planet Asia's (A.K.A. Jason Green) latest album is "The Medicine" a sixteen track release which is produced primarily by Evidence of Dilated Peoples. The Alchmist, Nucleus and Bravo make some contributions as well. Guest appearances come from Phil Da Agony, Krondon, Black Thought, Jonell, Kubiq, Supa Supreme, Prodigy, Killa Ben, Auch Dixon, Shake Da Mayor, Turbin, Defari, Rasco, Evidence and Rakaa. My favourite track on this release is "Stick & Move" which has Planet Asia collabrating with Prodigy of Mobb Deep and Killa Ben for a thugged out and memorable cut. Those who play video games may also recognize this track from the video game "Saint's Row". While I am not that impressed by Evidence's overall production on this release, his work on that cut is definitely on point. "In Love With You" is a feel good love track, San Fresno's Planet Asia pays tribute to a beautiful lady while singer Jonell laces this joint with a smooth chorus. The album's lead single "Thick Ropes" is a mediocre effort, Evidence's lackluster production leaves much to be desired. The Root's lead rhymer Black Thought drops in for "Over Your Head". Both MC's verses are on point, the production is not. Planet Asia & Defari take their audience back to days and memories past on "Old Timer Thoughts". This album could have used a larger variety of production, I am not a fan of Evidence's production as a lot of it sounds the same. Occasionally he gets a hit here and there. Planet Asia's lyrics are decent but could also use improvement. I found this release to be similar to "The Grand Opening" a few hot track's to checkout.

    5 out of 5 stars Simply Blazin'!.......2006-12-08

If "The Medicine" is not a 5 star album, then its freakin close. Take it from me, I can't stand mainstream music, and this album is definitely not that. First of all, Planet's lyrical flow is old school...tight and fluid. Secondly, most of the tracks are just plain blazin and rugged. Kinda reminds me of Brand Nubians meeting Alcoholics, but with a slammin contemporary non-radio sound. Listen, I live in the north-east coast, so I rarely listen to Planet Asia, Cali Agents, or any west coast music for that matter. But the combination of Planet's flow and rugged beats on "The Medicine" have kept this cd heavily in my rotation for the last 2 months and counting. Trust me, do yourself a favor bruh, and cop this cd.

2 out of 5 stars Pressure is Tight.......2006-10-11

I'm a long time Planet Asia fan and I gotta say this album seems like the pressure to appeal to the mainstream is finally getting to him. Though I gotta say his flow is unparalleled as usual. His beats lack depth and the organic feel they had pre-The Sickness(album),Which has more to do with the producer Evidence (of Dilated Peoples) than with the artist. However, he could have been more discriminating in choosing them. His lyrics are also progressively leaning more toward gangsta bravado, which I like to a certain extent as long as it's not compromising the quality of the music.
All that being said, go cop The Grand Opening, Still in training etc. to form an accurate opinion of this artist and his potential.

5 out of 5 stars Great organic hip hop.......2003-07-11

After reading the below review, I have to disagree. The first few listens, I thought it was weak, but the more I listen to it, the better it gets. He really pushes the organic flow (the Roots)and keeps it rolling. There are some really classic tracks and some that are merely good, but it's easy to listen to the whole thing through.

      2 out of 5 stars Throughly dissapointed!.......2003-06-07

Planet Asia has been highly touted as one of the best up and coming MCs with the work he did with Rasco on the Cali Agents LP, his solo shots on the ABB Records complilation, and his EP, The Last Stand. When word got out the he was signed to Interscope Records,(home of west coast comrads Jurassic 5), the buzz grew even bigger. On this LP, he must have lost plenty of motivation as well as patience because his work on the album is sub par. The tracks are unimaginative, the beats generic and repetitive, and overall the album seems more like a demo tape than something you would want people to hear. Planet Asia has too much talent to release a CD this unlistenable. Buyers beware, don't get this album!

bas-1 is not only a talented lyricist, electric performer, and hard worker, he is an example of what makes the Bay Area one of the most talent-ridden areas in the U.S. He is also from North Oakland and is a "real" conscious MC. 4 out of 5 stars Nice album to listen to........2005-04-14

I can't believe how bad are the reviews this album got. So many three stars given. Man, the only reason I didn't give this one more stars is because there were only eight songs on it. That was my only hesitation to buy this album, since living in California as a teenager meant you needed to pinch your pennies a little bit. But I got it, and was pleased. The beats were the rugged underground beats that you would love to listen to any underground cat spit over. His lyrics are great, he rhymes so smooth and puts in good words in his flows. This is definitely ten times better than the Grand Opening, where he starts talking about hoes and money, blah blah. Get this for the pure lyrics that Asia spits out. peace

      5 out of 5 stars I don't know what ya'll talkin' about..........2003-05-07

I'm not sure what ya'll are saying about this album. It's not on the same level of his EP, but it's still a banger. I've always enjoyed his mellow beats. It's something to chill out to and still hear dope lyrics. Planet Asia is one of the most underated emcee's on Earth, next to Eligh. Both of them don't get enough respect. PICK THIS ALBUM UP!

3 out of 5 stars just buy the ep.......2001-05-15

you would be wise to pick up asia's ep instead. Also of interest might be Blackalicious or the Jurassic 5. Not that this album is bad... but it is just not really worth owning. You will probably get tired of it asfter a few listens.

Since ive got the time on my hands, il let everyone who even wants to buy this album in on a secret: its not all that bad but still its not truly what one would expect from an MC like asia. Let's go thru the songs:

Holdin the Crown- look, this song is alright, even the beat's ok, gets your head movin, flows are typic. But after two or three listens you can get over it.

You Cant Miss- this song has had me on it for quite some time...i can say that it is one of my personal fav. from this album. I like the beat though the flows are not up to par.

Head Honchies- haha - this song i felt got tooo much airtime but il take it. Alright beat, flows are kinda not right for underground hiphop but its ok.

You & urs- this song aint that great, flows ok but mei is kinda off the topic.

stupid - all i can say is that asia called this for what it is on the album.

Takin ova- nice beat, good flowin, nice 427, it gets boring but il take it.

anotha fav. weight- i like the topics and the flows, the beat is nice nice too too. :)

Thats all. My review on this stunk, but im better than the rest of this review junk.

      3 out of 5 stars Asia's Last Stand.......2000-10-25

Planet Asia's last solo album "Last Stand" (before signing with Interscope) is a mediocre-produced album. I love Asia's flow, but his lyrics and beats are plain. If you have heard his EP, this album is very similar, also having only 8 tracks to cop. I feel Asia is better on collaborations [20000 Leagues under the Street, Sway & Tech, Cali Agents, to name just a few] than his solo effort. I am a huge Asia fan, but not much on this album. Maybe Interscope will notice how much talent Asia has, and get him a fresh producer like Premier, Pete Rock, or Hi-Tek.
