If you're not familiar with the Denton/Dallas music scene in the early to mid 1990's, you may not be familiar wih these guys(and Girl!). Mike Dillon is a peculiar guy, I've met him several times YEARS ago , but what is undeniable is his talent for landing in great bands. Before Billygoat, Dillon was in a band called Ten Hands, also very good. Spinoff bands since the 90's include Rubberbullet(Earl Harvin), Harry Apes BMX(Dillon), and most recently Dillon has been linked to a group called Critters
Buggin'. Bush Roaming Mammals was released at the peak of Billygoat's popularity in the DFW area. They later moved to the Kansas City area, and I lost track of them. Finding copies of this cd is not easy. I see the price as low as a dollar--if you like percussion, hard driving drums, heavy guitar riffs, and have a sense of humor, buy it now. It is a cult classic in Denton and Dallas, and is worth well more than a buck.
Cerebral and intelligent humor and lyrics. These are very good musicians and smart people. I just wished they would have caught on nationally. They are all over the place musically, you can't categorize them. I have been listening to this cd for 15 years, and I still love it. And yes, all the stories of the crazy stage antics are real. I can't even go into it here, some of the most bizarre stuff I've ever seen anywhere, period, and it was a total blast. They do have a 2nd album, Black or White, released later with a different line up, and sounds completely different, I don't like it nearly as much. If you can get your hands on any Ten Hands music, buy that, too. One guy plays a Chatman Stick in that band. Good stuff. Buy this album.

Black & White, a later Billy Goat CD is well worth your listen. The most recently released recording of a band who were way ahead of their time. Yes, people would really get naked whenever they played the song "Clothes Off".

Trying to compare this group seems like it would be easy, but the only thing that keeps coming to mind is a weaker version of 311. They are still fairly good though. A few songs are nothing too special, but others like "Chef", and "Clothes off" are really catchy. Basically it's funk rock, with alot of rapping/talking lyrics that sometimes border on strange. I saw them live in Missouri 92-93, and what I remember more than the music, is that they had chics dancing topless, and the singer poured chocolate syrup over his mostly naked body. That was then. Who knows where they are now.
