Bizarro hair metal gone real bad...........2006-07-05
This isn't the sort of release you'd normally expect to see rates as hair metal but in terms of chops and a lot of it's sentiments that's exactly the genre this release sits well in. I mean songs about sex, a song called Schools for Fools, songs with bucketloads of swearing and then a few more songs about sex. All topped off with some tunes about who knows what!
Ultimately a disposable bunch of heroes basically comprising three musicians and the inimitable Stanley on vocals - allegedly a street bum dude the guys sort of found and nurtured. Don't believe that gimmick? Hey that's OK cos nobody else did either.
Whatever the story is with Stanley the guy had a deep, resonant voice equally at home delivering low register crooning or gargled wailing. Both aspects of his voice get a decent workout on this release where his vox are backed up by sturdy riffing that's actually almost wasted on what is ultimately a joke of a release that ended up selling fine due to it's weirdness. The music is actually fairly fast paced and lively and the band are certainly solid in the wall of sound they create.
Main gripes would be the fact that the genuinely good tunes are few and far between. And the insipid pre teen sentiments of some of the tracks are only funny for about two listens before your praising the people who invented CD's as your so happy for the skip button.
A hard release to knock given that these guys couldn't possibly have been serious. The intention seems to have been a weird sort of late 80's metal implosion and that has certainly been achieved here, the sense of chaos not diminishing throughout. What this band could of achieved had they been more serious is shown by the excellent melodies married to the crunching riffis of some tracks, particularly tracks 6 and 9.
Pick up cheap as a curio if you need a laugh. Or want to shake your head at what could have been with a bit more of a serious approach to proceedings.
A very strong 3 stars, but due to it's wackiness and childish moments I can only give it the 3.
Not a very well known band. But still a kick-ass album!.......2005-07-02
This is Punk-Metal at it's best. It's too bad they never were understood by either the hair-band or grunge fans.
The vocals are gonna make the decision for you........2005-02-25
This album really grows on you, once you get used to Stanley's vocals. He kinda sounds Leon Redbone (the guy who did the Mr. Belvedere theme song, remember it?) a bit (especially on the opening Blue Velvet Moon) but once you get into the meat of the album, you realize his vocals actually complement the very modern 90's production and themes of this album. The band tackles all the usual subjects (sex, drugs and rock and roll) but adds a slightly demented twist (again, mostly via Stanley). The big boost to all this is the extremly talented band, who run rings around most bands of this genre. The band had quite an underground following and seemed poised on the blink of stardom, but something happened. Timing may have been an issue, because even though they were a novelty of sorts, their sound was definitly that of a hair metal band circa 1992, and that genre was beginning it's decline and fall. One year later grunge had basically wiped the floor of most of the prominent hair bands, and LSD probably fell through the cracks. Which is unfortunate because they seemed to have much more to offer than most of those bands. If you like harder hair bands like Ratt or Kick Axe, check these guys out.
Life Sex & Death - 'The Silent Majority' (Warner Brothers).......2005-02-06
I give it 3 1/2 stars.'The Silent Majority' was apparently this band's sole release. Some who remember this group would likely think they're a bit strange.Pretty much because of their mentally-challenged lead vocalist(who rarely showers)- 'Stanley'.Heard that he often has conversations with himself. When I first heard this disc,I was decently impressed with just how good most,if not all the fourteen cuts actually turned out to be.More or less just well written&played uptempo rock 'n roll.Tracks that had me pulling out the CD repeated times were "School's For Fools",the kick-ass "Tank"(anyone remember the video for this song?),"F**kin' Sh** Ass","Big Black Bush" and "Hey Buddy".Wanted to mention that I got to see the band play at a club, that drew maybe thirty people that night.I remember running into 'Stanley' before the show.He is creepy!!Don't think he's faking it either.About half way through their set,I was standing smack dead center in the front of the stage. What does 'Stanley' do?Start running his right hand through my hair.Ugh!!Music here is worth while just the same.
No idea how to label it.......2004-10-23
I'm going my cd collection looking for an oldie but goodie, and what jumps into my hand, LS&D. Its been about 8 years since I last listened, and I get one of those snarling smiles like I just did something illegal. This is one of those cd's you can NOT put your finger on in any way. Is it really this good, or is it really this bad? Is Stanley for real, or just a stage prop? Did drugs and alcohol play a major part, or was part of the mystique?
I sat through the entire cd and wondered WTF were the people in the studio wondering..lol. It doesnt really matter, because this is one helluva cd. It's fast, yet slow. Its subtle, and inyourface. Its loud, yet calming. Its shocking, yet graceful. It also has one of THE best metal guitar songs (IMHO) of all time in Telephone Call (this is one song you must hear if your into metal).
Anyway, its a keeper, and I'll probably put it away for another few years.. but I know its always there!

Customer Reviews:
Well done album.......2007-03-30
This is a well done album that has multiple standout tracks such as "To The Woman," "Cindy," "Hey Lainie," and "Wait For You." This album is more rock and less acoustic than their previous album "Back In The Bottle" which I gave 5 stars.
Buddy Rocks!.......2003-03-25
"If you only buy one cd this year..." ...You need to buy more music! But seriously, no matter what you buy Buddy is a must for everyone's music collection. The new recording of Wait For You is awesome, and with Spring here, this is the cd to take outside and celebrate with, while getting 'Giddy In The Sun'.
MOST AMAZING DISCOVERY!.......2003-02-19
Over the past year, I have become a huge fan of TAMMANY HALL NYC's music. I first heard them on the HBO commercials before the SOPRANOS and SEX AND THE CITY. I bought their acoustic record, "back in the bottle" and really fell in love with it. Since then, I ordered "BUDDY" and I could not be happier. This record is very different from the other record, but still expresses the same heart. The songs are uptempo and good-natured. "FRIDAY, YOU'RE WITH ME" is now one of my favorites. Steve O'Reilly's voice is amazing. He has this incredible ability to evoke real emotional depth when he sings. It's like he is talking to me. His lyrics are poetic, but not too much. BUDDY is an amazing display of songwriting. "SULLIVAN STREET" rocks like no song I've heard in years and "HEY LAINIE" is perhaps one of the most endearing love songs of all time. This band has something really special. I am lucky I decided to look them up. I hope they stick around because there is no telling what they might do next!

Album Description
First ever compilation by this '90s Britpop band, a brilliant mix of Pop melodies, British songwriting, strings and great production. Often compared to Divine Comedy, MLS were far more lush and over-the-top, sounding like ABC and Marc Almond recording James Bond themes with Noel Coward helping out. Features all their Top 40 hits including 'Sparkle', '12 Reasons Why', 'King Of Kissingdom' and more.

Product Description
RockDownBaby wrote, produced, recorded and played all the instruments on this fresh collection of indie/pop/electronica/dance songs, her debut EP. A combination of strength and femininity, RockDownBaby doesn't take herself too seriously. "It's only rock and roll," RDB says, "Love and Sex and Rock and Roll."
Annotated Track List:
1. Test Drive - this sultry combination of slide guitar, banjo and dance track is pure invitation.
2. TV Dog - Her ultracool, ungrateful talking canine thinks he's a celebrity...or ought to be.
3. Baby, Baby - My favorite...I think about this song night and day...
4. I Am Your RockDownBaby - RDB's utterly groovaceous party manifesto.
5. Soul Connection - what it's all about, in life and in love.
6. Spy On You - Webcam, cellphone cam, telepathy cam: "I like to be STIRRED...not shaken," she told us.
7. I Feel My Sex - one for the ages.
Several of RockDownBaby' s songs have already been snatched up for use in film and tv. Test Drive is in a documentary on HBO,and two films. Soul Connection in the independent feature film Cross Country and I Am Your RockDownBaby is promised to Night Glare Films for a film set in the disco era. MTV has licensed several songs for use in Made. Songs #1, 2 & 7 are collaborations with lyricist David Graham.
