Editorial Reviews
From URB Magazine
Even without a 12-inch to his name, Bronx bomber C-Rayz Walz would still get over on the strength of his battle raps and powers of oh-so-freely associative thought. But unlike many who earned their stripes routing their fellow MC-kind, this vernacular-flipping wunderkind - a veteran of some five singles and the author of 2001's lauded Prelude LP - has managed to consistently find his voice through written rhyme. Consequently, he has evolved into one heck of a recording artist. This is apparent throughout Ravi Pops, where the punch lines are plentiful and uncommonly good, but play a background role to more heartfelt fare like "Protect My Family" and "'86." Content-wise, Ravi Pops isn't breaking ground, but Rayz brings a certain level of blue-collar authenticity to everything he touches. So when he harkens back to when "the livest stage used to be in your apartment," you can't help but wish you were there in the room with him.

4 out of 5 stars Unconventional Underground Gansta.......2006-07-22

C Ray is quite vicious, vocally charged, lyrically supercharged and concept driven. He is trully a teacher, preacher and battle rhyme speaker. However, he challenges you mentally to reflect on the press, respect and the place you rest. You will open up the more you listen and a whole notha level of understanding will creep up on you and then he's got you in his world. He is definitely in a class by him self in some respects but then again he is just one of the boy's. This is what is unique about his persona. Definitive Jux is just killin it for the underground.........Mr. Lif, The Perceptionist, now C-Ray......and it goes on till the break of dawn.............

5 out of 5 stars "Battle me"...I really wouldn't want to.......2006-05-15

'Ravipops' is the debut full length album from C-Rayz Walz, the Bronx freestyle legend. A veteran on the battle scene, C-Rayz is one of the most respected cats in the underground, yet still remains one of the most slept on. This album is brimming with C-Rayz's personality and is diverse in both lyrical content and production. Whether sonning cats with brilliantly creative punchlines on songs such as "Battle Me" or taking you back with tracks like "'86", Ravipops is always entertaining to listen to. The album contains posse cut "The Line up" which features many of the undergrounds finest like, Wordsworth, Vast Aire of Cannibal Ox and a certain Mr. MF Doom, among others. Luckily the album isn't too guest heavy and C-Rayz shines on every track, living up to his moniker the "Sun Cycle MC". The album is 17 tracks deep but never feels overlong, as C-Rayz is such a joy to listen to. C-Rayz deserves alot more recognition, and I highly recommend your cop this album, and support a very unique talent in hip-hop.

4 out of 5 stars Def Jux does it again.......2006-05-14

C-Rayz blew this album open right from the intro. Only flaw to the album is that the 1st half is better than the 2nd, he could of finished a lil' stronger. Overall, the cd is of the bean curd rack. production is phenomonal as def jux albums always are & Walz is just a lyrical savage. The best tracks on the album are Floe, The Essence {a banga}, Buck 80, Battle Me & The posse cut The Line Up. If your a hip hop head and you aint got this album yet, Your SLEEPIN!!!!

4 out of 5 stars C-Rayz Walz - Ravipops.......2006-03-19

Great album. I like most of the production on this album, real hiphop beats and loops etc. There was only like a COUPLE tracks I wasnt feeling but the rest were ill! Thats why it gets a 4 since I was feelin about most of the tracks! C-Rayz gots an ill flow and ill lyrics hands down. I recommend this album to all true hiphop fans, youll like this album alot. My fav track is "Guns And Butter", a fu**** ill beat!!
