Another vote of approval.......2007-07-27
This is Todd's most challenging release. If you liked "My Jesus" from his last CD, you'll love this CD. The standout songs are "Our Great God", "Lovers in our Heads", "Martyr's Song" and "On A Corner in Memphis". Very few releases have this level of bare honesty and self-reflection. Top 10 of 2007 in my opinion.
Provocative and Powerful!.......2007-07-18
Todd and God have done it again! The music is absolutely great, showing such creativity and talent--from the great Memphis blues on "On A Corner in Memphis" to the gritty rock in "Least of These" and "War Inside" to Todd's piano postlude on "Lovers In Our Heads." All the music and musicians were outstanding!
The soulful sound and words of "If you Wanted Me" was the front runner for me until I listened to the bonus track "Glorious Day." Todd breathed new life into that old hymn! But what made my heart leap, and just about evoked a shout, was when Todd sang so powerfully and passionately "One day He's coming, oh glorious day!" Between the powerful worship in "Our Great God," the love song from God in "Martyr's Song" and the sound of hope and victory in "Glorious Day" I could just float away up to heaven and not have any regrets about leaving this world.
This new CD is a provocative, inspirational, powerful combination of great music and profound lyrics. The raw honesty about life's struggles resonate with everyone who has questions only God can answer. Some of the lyrics provoke us to examine ourselves to see how God can use us as His hands and feet to reach out to a hurting world.
Thanks to Todd for continuing to listen to and struggle with God. The two of them are a powerful combination!
His Best Yet...........2007-07-17
Better Questions is Todd Agnew's best, absolute best. In fact, its the best christian cd I have bought in a long time. It gets better each time you listen through it.
He tackles topics most Christian artists wouldn't dare. His song "War Inside" nails Paul's struggle in Romans 7.
Any christian struggling with dying to self or any honest believer who has honest questions will love this cd.
He does it again........2007-07-17
Stunning new album, hard hitting lyrics....Mr. Agnew has followed his heart and his ministry yet again, and the result is nothing short of a gift from God.
Mr. Agnew's lyrics continually hit the mark, speaking the truth without hesitation. Very happy to be able to add this to my library.

Awesome Set!.......2007-07-01
I am a huge fan of Jerry Goldsmith. They did a great job preserving his vision. I can listen to this collection for hours. Great music!
Elmer Bernstein Film Music Collection.......2006-11-03
This is compilation of hit film music from one of the greatest composers in motion pictures. What is surprising though is the music not included like the Ghost And The Darkness, the 13th Warrior, Rudy and others. To be sure, 4 discs are not enough for a composure of this stature. THe recording, however, is an "engineering masterpiece" which makes the music even more enjoyable than when you first heard it at the movies. When are we ging to get the music that was omittd from this compilaton?
Overall a strong Goldsmith sampler.......2006-04-11
Okay, this is a CD review, so the focus is on music, but I've got to say this first: this has got to be a contender for the ugliest cover art ever. I mean, come on...instead of a tribute to the composer, the cover looks like someone spilled a glass of merlot over a NASA photo.
Fortunately, even an ugly cover will not ruin good music. And the good news is that I'd say about 75 percent of the music is good....and on a 4 cd set, that's a lot. Like other Silva compilations, the strength of this compilation is the variety. There are selections from the big releases (Star Trek, Omen, Rambo), but there is also a healthy dose of tracks from the smaller releases(Under Fire, Lionheart, The Swarm).
Two examples come to mind. Capricorn One and The Great Train Robbery are two movies that are not exactly household names today, but are dominated by two of Goldmith's finest main themes. The City of Prague Philharmonic come through with terrific renditions. And there are plenty of other strong performances...a few being concert versions conducted by Goldsmith himself. Suprisingly, "The Wind and the Lion" works, which is no small accomplishment given the ferentic original performance of "Raisuli Attacks".
It's not a complete success. A few of the performances fall flat, particularly some of the more inventive scores. Total Recall is just bad, mangling the performance with poor percussion and synthesizer choices to boot. Also a letdown is the Klingon Attack from the first Star Trek movie. The Prague Philhamonic attempt doesn't sound bad--it's just that once you've heard the original soundtrack's "blaster beam" with enough bass to rattle your teeth...well let's just say Silva's version is a little tinny in comparison.
But I shouldn't dwell on the negative. Overall, this is a strong sampler of Goldsmith's variety. There are plenty of quality performances here, and despite a few omissions (noticeably Planet of the Apes)this is a very good release from Silva.
Jerry Goldsmith - 40 years of pleasure.......2006-02-22
It was wonderful to hear Mr. Goldsmith's music that went all the way back to The Man from UNCLE, The Waltons, Dr Kildare, etc. And then to hear his music up to the present. The man was a genius!
Almost the perfect compilation.......2005-12-31
Age has its value.... This sweeping collection of compositions brings back so many great memories. This collection shows how significant Goldsmith was for both the movie screen and the small screen. With such a grand collection, every reader can be assured that at least one movie or TV program they like or remember had Goldsmith's contribution. It was an amazing life and the collection well worth having.
However, as sweepig as it is, there are a few holes in the selection. "First Contact", one of the sweetest and richest compositions from the Star Trek is absent. "The Ghost and the Darkness" is missing and the "Medicine Man" music should include the theme song. By dwelling on several selections from the Blue Max, these were squeezed out. Three full and important movie themes got the axe.
However, all but "The Ghost and the Darkness" are readily available and not overly expensive as is the "Ghost" CD. This is a must have for the TV and movie music fan.
Before there was Hans Solo there was Napolean Solo, before ER there was Dr. Kildare. Jerry Goldsmith IS Sci-Fi. "Resistance is futile.. you MUST assimilate this CD collection."

Album Description
10 Questions for the Dalai Lama Original Score by Peter Kater Music from the Motion Picture Directed by Rick Ray
The experience of listening to the music on this soundtrack, by multi Grammy nominated pianist/composer Peter Kater, is best described as sublime. With guest appearances by chanting Tibetan monk and teacher Tulku Orgyen, Tibetan flutist Nawang Khechog, and Native American flutist R. Carlos Nakai, the listener is beckoned to step off the plateau of worldly affairs into the realm of self-realization and divine grace. The Tibetan bowls, cello, piano, strings, chants and flutes add to the music's sweet spiritual seduction and give the listener the sense that the questions, once so seemingly urgent and consuming, have already been answered and dissolved by beautiful strains of flowing harmony and musical bliss.

Understated, thoughtful, delicate, and intimate.......2007-05-19
Playing Time - 61:30 -- Zen Master Fa-Yen once asked, "If you meet a wise man and you do not say anything to him nor keep silence, how would you question him?" It's certainly something to ponder if one were to be granted an hour-long audience with the Dalai Lama. I have not seen the 85-minute film, "10 Questions for the Dalai Lama," directed by Rick Ray, but I imagine it as an inspiring tale of peace, harmony, kindness, compassion and wisdom. In 2001, Ray was allowed to interview the exiled Tibetan leader in Dharamsala. To accompany the scenic travelogue, multi-Grammy nominated pianist/composer Peter Kater was enlisted to complement the film's images with a new age music score.
Born in Germany, Peter Kater has lived in New Jersey, Colorado and California since his move to the U.S. at age four. Emphasizing improvisation and spontaneity, Kater released his first album of piano solos ("Spirit") in 1983. That project and his subsequent forty albums with jazz, world and Native American flavorings have opened many opportunistic doors for him in the realm of scoring for theater and film. Kater's piano and synthesizer are nicely blended with some haunting vocal chanting, flute, saxophone, and cello. Worldy musical sensibilities are fused when Tibetans Tulku Orgyen and Nawang Khechog join Native American flutist R. Carlos Nakai and others including Richard Hardy, Shawn Darius, Beth Fitchet Wood, David Darling, and Mark Miller. The vocals imparted to "Buddha Search" and "Seeking the Dalai Lama" impart an adventurer's sense of discovery. Three additional pieces with Nawang Khechog's chanting (A Fresh Wind, Ocean of Long Life, Call of Compassion) are particularly enticing.
The Dalai Lama has stated "I am no one special ... I am just a simple human being." In a similar and corresponding way, the music on this album is at times understated, thoughtful, delicate, and intimate. However, it is special in that Kater carefully cultivates musical expressions to create certain moods, emotions, sentiments and feelings. Without also seeing the movie to put the eleven compositions into context, I am left pondering the wisdom of enlightenment in the music itself. Such wisdom is inherent is each of us, but many fail to recognize it. Thus, one should experience this score with the essence of an open mind and a goal of seeking freedom and liberation. The journey is certainly not linear, and the human consciousness created by Kater's music is both a spiritual allegory and insightful metaphor. The 13-minute "Call of Compassion" may be the best example of how to free oneself from ego-illusion, awaken inner wisdom, and meditate about roots of justice, sympathy, impartial love, humanity, mercy .... real measures of all things. I don't believe that Kater would want this work to result in simple declarations about his musical greatness and wisdom. For, as Zen Master Gempo Yamamoto so profoundly stated, "If you are seen as great or wise by others, you have not yet reached maturity." Peter Kater is a journeyman seeker on that path. (Joe Ross, Roseburg, OR.)
Beautiful fusion.......2006-09-25
The way Tibetan chanting, Native American flute music (by Carlos Nakai) and a variety of eastern and western instruments (Tibetan bowls, cello, piano, strings) is smooth, and beautiful. There is no strain in how they fit together, just creating wonderful music that is transporting, touching and very interesting.

The Sleeping ~Questions and Answers~.......2006-08-16
So I've found yet another Victory band in my review package and I'm wondering prior to listening if this is the direction the label is headed in.
Their influences, according to the press release, range from The Police to The Mars Volta and Nine Inch Nails. Will you hear any of this in their song writing?
A little.
The songs have a pretty straight forward indie/emo sound that bands from Long Island have been doing for years (Brand New/Taking Back Sunday) except The Sleeping aren't as poppy as early Taking Back Sunday.
""Don't Hold Back"" is a catchy song with a strong chorus. The singer, Douglas Robinson, reminds me slightly of Cedric circa At The Drive-In minus their depth and dynamics which doesn't mean it's all bad... it just means that he isn't ground breaking.
The length and breadth of the album reminds me of the basic Long Island sound with some Mars Volta influenced breakdowns (see: ""Loud and Clear"") and the album closer, "Still" which is heavy handed with it's straight forward approach to the `Volta atmosphere.
Nothing special but nothing terrible here. If you're looking for more indie to fill a hole, go for it. If you're done with what the scene has to offer, this isn't for you.
For Fans of: Taking Back Sunday, Brand New, At the Drive-In
Great band, Awful lyrics.......2006-07-24
I want to love this band so bad but I just cant. They are very good....great singer, very good guitar work and a good live show. The only real problem is their lyrics. They just frustrate me beyond belief. I loved them the first couple songs I heard until I started paying attention to what the singer what actually saying...listen to dont hold back, such a good song with such stupid words. I still like them but compared to Bayside they are nothing. Heart Beatz is the corniest, most unoriginal song I have ever heard. It seems like they just wanted a tribute so they wrote it in 15 minutes and threw it in the album. Listen to winter by bayside if you want a song that actually had thought put into it for john. Anyways, I will give them 4 stars becuase they deserve more credit, but I would say its around a 3 star album.
A Fine Debut........2006-06-21
Just when I had lost all faith in Victory Records, they release "Questions & Answers" by The Sleeping. Just to be clear, I had never heard this band before buying this disc, picked it up totally on a whim and it has yet to leave the CD player. From the bare-knuckle beating of "Don't Hold Back" to the mostly instrumental "Still" this album is completely solid.
The singer reminds me of a less gruff Tim McIlrath (Rise Against) except that he has superior range. The guitar work is second to none, and it constantly keeps you guessing. The bass is worked masterfully in mostly punchy, groove-setting moiety. The drumming is carefully crafted and extremely intricate.
By far the best CD I have bought this year and overall, an outstanding debut from a band that will hopefully have staying power.
Standout tracks: "Don't Hold Back", "Loud and Clear", "Heart Beatz" (A tribute to the late John "beatz" Holohan of Bayside), "Dearest Mistake"
Pretty Good.......2006-06-18
I love the song, "Don't Hold Back". Pretty good for something that came from Victory Records.
Answers........2006-06-03
SInce listening to their earliest demos, this is their best material to date.
These fellow Long Islander's have put out an extremely solid record start to finish. There live show is amazing every time, and they seem to keep getting better and better musically.
This release, show how much these guys have matured. There seems to be alot more emotion in the lyrics and the musicianship itself. Every song is catchy, and this one will revolve in your cd player for awhile.
If you listen to the Sleeping, and even if you don't, this release is their best to date. Give it a few listens, you will get hooked.

Album Description
Mr Serv-On has a new album coming out in March titled "No More Questions." If it sounds like a nod about his former label, No Limit that's because it is. The new album is his first since Serv-On left matriarch Master P and his No Limit Records. Serv-On says, "So many people have asked me why I left No Limit. Some fans are angry because they love the idea of the No Limit family and they feel I shouldn't have left. I decided to name my album, "No More Questions" because the album speaks for itself. After they hear the album, I won't need to talk about it anymore."
When asked about what's different about the new material as opposed to Serv-On's prior albums, he said, "I was restricted before (at No Limit), now I have more freedom to talk about the things I want to talk about. This album is very personal. I went through a lot emotionally while making it, my marriage, my split from No Limit, things I had a hard time talking about I could express on this album."
The debut single from "No More Questions" is called "Where Dat Work At" and is a song fans will love. "The single sounds a lot like me, it's just a bumpin' Serv-On track." Fans will have a chance to hear the single live when Serv-On heads out on the road. More details will be announced shortly.

I love this album. I have all 5 of Serv's albums but this one is the best. He's my favorite rapper. "Soldier" is my favorite track. I hope you and your family are safe,Serv and i'm sorry about what happened to N.O. Peace!
A Different but Good 5th Album.......2004-11-15
Mr. Serv-On is back after taking a year and a half off, and he puts out his 5th album (and my personal favorite of all his albums, just beating his debut "Life Insurance"). He gets very personal and deep on this album. Not many hard gangsta tracks on here and hardly no other rappers either, Serv talks alot from his heart and about a lot of different issues and problems (most notably No Limit) he's been facing and asked about. A very diverse, deep and different album. Has a couple of skippable tracks, a few alright ones, and a good number of quality ones. A must have for fans.

Mr. Serv-on dosen't need No Limit Records to make him a good rapper, they barely even gave him time to shine there, So now hes been out on his own for a while and his albums get better with time for sure....The beats on this album are very good, as is his voice....To the reveiwer above me - This album is very bouncy, dont disrespect the best rapper out of the N.O....Peace Serv-On , R.I.P. - BIG ED & SOULJA SLIM

Album Description
"Dreamworld: Music Inspired by The Matrix" is a musical journey probing the philosophical questions: "Which pill would you choose?", "What is real?", "What is freedom and do we really have it?", "Is some dark force controlling us in a matrix?". It explores the depth of the films religious and metaphysical connotations.
Each song is delivered to make a sonic representation of these themes. Producer ZED.NAN.REH worked deeply with each artist to insure these themes would weave into the fabric of the record. So it is not a compilation of random artists contributing songs, but more like a screenplay of sounds directed by ZED.NAN.REH, each song building toward the climax of the record and finally resolving at the end.
"Dreamworld" is a concept record, with musical styles ranging from industrial, electronica, trip hop, techno and house/trance; all tightly woven to feel like a non-stop sonic journey through the matrix of the mind.
Customer Reviews:
Inspired by...... what?.......2006-11-29
I'm fine with music soundtracks that are "inspired by...", or their musical score, but this is neither. It's a random collection of songs that doesn't fit any themes/moods of the Matrix movies. The songs aren't even done very well. I wasted at least 10 minutes of my life downloading this from Limewire. It was deleted soon after. I'd give it no stars if I could.
Ouch........2005-08-23
Not to be blunt, or brutal, or unfair, but rather to be succint: this record sucks. It's filled by music of third-rate wannabes and does not live up to the standard of quality set by other Matrix media. I threw it away.
Different than the originals...very intelligent.......2005-08-17
This is one of the best cd's released in its category! The songs blend together in a virtual journey through space and time!!!This cd will take you where you've never been before...like the Matrix, it is deep, philosophical and with concepts that really open your eyes...and of course your ears :) Listen to it more then once--get into it; you'll see the truth and the powerful message behind it. A MUST HAVE!!!don't skip this one--great blend of tunes--original, unique--you will not regret it, I PROMISE.
This is a very well thought out compilation. The first part is very ethereal downtempo, while the second half is a bangin' in your face techno driven masterpiece. This work is a nice contrast to the original soundtracks. A GREAT ADDITION to any matrix' fans collection.
WARNING: NOT FOR THE INTELECTUALLY CHALLENGED
This is the best I have ever heard in this genre of CD music. The music is out of this world....very intense. Very different in a great way! I hope Zednanreh will be releasing more stuff like this. He captures the feeling of the movie very well. He is more unique than the soundtracks are. They just give the standard run of the mill "artists of the month" to sell the CD's.
It helped me to understand the content of the movie even better.
I highly recommend this not only to matrix fans, but fans of 2012 prophecy and global conspiracy theorists as well. Lovers of chill out, techno, and house - even industrial will also praise this cd.
Very deep concepts that seem to be inspired by the writings of David Icke as much as the matrix! David icke himself expands on the matrix concepts. check out his web site [...]and see the interwoven themes between icke, zednanreh and the Matrix trilogy. Well done... The song titles and artists even carry the theme....ingenious!

Shame there are no Negative Ratings, B/c it sure deserves one........2005-08-09
The production quality is almost as bad as the depressingly awful music. Don't be fooled folks. The "artistic" hacks may love it, but beauty is TRUELY in the eye of the beholder. If you enjoyed the awesome first 3 soundtracks; don't waste your money on this one expecting more of the same.
Instead you will receive a CD chocked full of unimaginative (i.e. high-schoolers without talent playing on their home computers) techno and "spoken word" type lyrics that are laughably bad (but only if you didn't shell out $13.99 to listen to them).
I'm now the proud owner of a $14.00 coaster, b/c that's about all it's good for

great.......2007-04-14
cop shoot cop r.i.p. , there is nothing quite like driving around on a crappy rainy day listening to this cd and i mean that in a good way.
One of the few early '90's albums I regret not having bought when it came out.......2005-10-08
I first heard Cop Shoot Cop when the single "$10 Bill" --found on this album-- was added to the playlist of my fav. modern rock station where I lived at the time --99.1 WHFS DC/Baltimore market which has since shifted formats to Latin as of earlier this year-- and fell in love with it right away. I wanted to buy it but kept getting other stuff every time I went to record stores and it eventually slipped my mind after time went on, but every once in awhile it would cross my mind when I would be in a record store but would be disappointed when I didn't see them in the racks or find that the CD was just more pricey than I was planning on spending if I actually did find it in the racks and would pass on it for something else. The used prices on here for it are still quite high and that leads me to suspect that it's either out of print or highly sought out or highly regarded by those who are seeking to sell it thru Amazon or some combination of all three.
Not their best, but excellent nonetheless.......2003-07-07
I personally think "Release" is their best album... however this album is a close second in terms of overall quality. Some of their best songs (not on Release) are on other albums such as "Tomorrow Never Comes" and "Down Comes The Mickey." But this album has "Room 429" and "Everbody Loves You," which are also among their best songs. Some lyrics from "Everybody Loves You (When You're Dead)" go as follows:
"Life is so much better when you're dead / Conversation's easy when there's nothing to be said / But it can get a little lonesome / Maybe you should take along a friend"
I think the other reviews speak very well about their musical abilities and songwriting.
Must have album!!.......2001-10-09
If you like heavy music with good lyrics and.. Just buy it!! It's good. I like Kilgore, Type O Negative, Kyuss, Dropkick Murphys, Paradise Lost, and I like Cop Shoot Cop. It's a must have. And I agree with the guy down below (Up above?) Room 429 is a highlight of this album. Strapping Young Lad did a cover of it, but the original is way better! And I bought it on a whim also about 9 years ago, and the lyrics stuck with me even after I special ordered another copy to replace my lost one... It's that good.
Should have done more.......2001-09-29
I bought this album on a lark about nine years ago used because I liked the duct-tape cover. Boy, was I lucky. These guys and this record are incredible. Epic sounds and inspired lyrics are all over the place. Everyone mentions the duel bass setup of the group, but don't be fooled, this is rock. Admittedly, lower Manhattan style rock twinged with a little bit of punk and industrial (I guess) but way ahead of their time nonetheless. I think that this album is better than their other two my bounds. Although White Noise is good, but out of print.
A special note is the song Room 429. One of those very special songs that will stick with you for about 9 years. Apparently it is about heroin (I used to date a woman who used to date the drummer) and the pitfalls that go along with it. Who cares. The song is haunting and wonderful. So is the whole the album. Good stuff. Well worth your time.

what a piece of poo. if this even the same band??? I can't imagine that anyone involved in the masterpiece "hand on the torch" could put their name of this travesty.
Sad attempt to make Interesting Music.......2005-07-05
I heard a little US3 on my Yahoo LaunchCast and decided to test out the album. I must say I was gravely dissapointed. There is no complexity to their music. It reminds me of something I'd see Bert&Ernie dancing to on Sesame Street. Everytime there was a decent beat is was destroyed by the weak flows of some dude in the group. I love poetry and music that touches me deeply. This sounded like a keyboard-karaoke-garage production. I did not enjoy it one bit and I will never play it again.

The BEST.......2005-10-22
Clay Walker is the most true country singer out there. He stays true to his roots, and writes and sings the absolute best there is out there. This cd is very good, but then again, he has not ever had a bad one. If you want my advice, buy it. It really is an awesome cd and Clay's hot too.
Excellent!!!.......2004-07-10
There really is not much more to say than this CD is absolutely wonderful. I think this CD may be his the best of his work!
A thoughtful, soulful, intelligent album.......2003-10-30
I wasn't wild about the musical end of this album -- Walker and his production are both a bit thin -- but the lyrical content is quite striking. Although Walker only wrote a couple of the songs, this album has a very personal feel, and a sense of cohesion and depth that is all too rare in contemporary pop and country. It opens with the title track, which is one of those lofty efforts that I call "issue songs," a subgenre I don't generally care much for, as it seems opportunistic and contrived. However, on this track (which was also the album's lead single), Walker may surprise a few folks with his sincere questioning of our world's injustice and imbalances, not merely deploring when "bad things happening to good people," but also questioning the privelege and affluence he enjoys as a modern American. Even more surprising is that the album actually continues along in the same vein, for song after song. Walker returns to the issue of American materialism and spiritual drift on songs such as "Everybody Needs Love," the potentially controversial "Jesus Was A Country Boy" (where he sings, "I bet he never had a million dollars/or wore a lot of fancy clothes...") and, most effectively, on "This Is What Matters," where Walker encourages the world to turn off the cell phones and fax lines, and kick back with nature, family and friends for awhile. The album is dedicated, not surprisingly, to "the good Lord," but Walker eschews the self-serving "told you so" smugness that many self-styled Christians drape themselves in, and actually seems to be searching for both answers and for a personal philosophy that will allow him to live life as a good, whole human being, one who is engaged with other people and with the world around him... He's not parading his religion, he's actually exploring his spiritual values, and it's an interesting effort, made all the more thought provoking for the highly commercial context. This isn't the greatest Nashville-style country I've ever heard, but it is a substantive, earnest album, notable amid an ocean of crass, cynical, individualistic self-involvement. Good for Clay!
The Best Voice in the biz.......2003-09-25
Though this is not Clay's best overall album to date, there are a couple of songs here that just may be the best he has ever recorded. The title cut, "A Few Questions" and the song titled, "I Can't Forget Her" are worth the price of the album alone. The latter of the songs has a "Tex-Mex" haunting sound to it. It stands apart from any material Clay has recorded in his outstanding career.
Overall, the cd is pretty solid. There are a few "throw out" songs that shouldn't have made the cd, but with a voice like Clay, they are tolerable to listen to.
Maybe next time Clay will record some songs written by the combo of Tony Martin & Mark Nessler or Montana solo writer, Spencer Winegar (3 of country's best). Martin/Nessler & Winegar could have definitely replaced the "throw out" material here with some quality songs.
He's back and better than ever!.......2003-09-21
It's safe to say that Clay Walker has one of the countriest voices in the music business today. He was made to sing country music--which is good, for those of us who're his fans.
"A Few Questions" is a powerful CD, full of good music and good times. It also has a wide range of material--from powerful, emotionally-charged ballads like the title track, "I Don't Want to Know," "I Can't Forget Her", and "I Can't Sleep"; to country-rockers like "Everybody Needs Love", "Swee Sun Angel," and "Countrified"; to sexy rock/country blends like "I'm In the Mood for You" and "When She's Good She's Good" (but when she's bad she's better); and laid-back country tunes like "Jesus Was a Country Boy", "Heaven Leave the Light On," and "This is What Matters."
Walker doesn't display his songwriting ability on this album as much--which may or may not be a good thing. Let's just say that the album is great the way it is. There are a few flaws--"Coming Back Again" is a bit awkward, and even good tunes like "Everybody Needs Love" and "Sweet Sun Angel" are a bit cliched. Still, Clay Walker delivers a good album with his excellent voice.
There is no question about it: "A Few Questions" is one of the best albums of the summer (or fall, depending on your point of view). Just...ah, heck, just buy this album, because it's worth every penny you spend!

Album Description
"Whoever It Was . . ." is award-winning Welsh singer-songwriter-humanitarian activist Martyn Joseph's first US-released CD since Epic's "Martyn Joseph" in 1995, and the 17th release of his 20-year career. Described by two of England's most influential music magazines as "one of acoustic music's most original voices" (Q Magazine) and as "an artist of enduring worth" (Mojo), Joseph left Sony/Epic after 5 highly produced Top 50 UK hits in the mid-'90s, but continued to record and release CDs steadily, eventually through his own British-based label, Pipe Records.
For his first full-length new studio CD in five years, following several EPs for international social justice causes, Martyn recognized that he'd "made a number of political points on various projects in the last few years, and this record just began to form in a more reflective way." So rather than dwell on the specific, his themes here are universal - love and its bittersweet realities, the need for personal activism and faith despite the limitations of human nature - and winningly conveyed by his strong, yearning vocals and intimate acoustic accompaniment. Each of the eleven songs was recorded live in the studio by Martyn on vocals and acoustic guitar, then a little coloration - keyboards, a second guitar, cello, harmonica, occasional backing vocals - was sparingly added. With nine original songs (four of them co-written by longtime Joseph collaborator Stewart Henderson, a Liverpudlian poet), there is a unity of voice, lyrical outlook, and instrumental approach that links! each track into an emotionally satisfying and thought-provoking whole.
For a glimpse of the political side of Martyn's music, Appleseed has appended to this CD two tracks from one of his benefit EPs - "The Great American Novel," written in the '70s by Larry Norman, angrily laments the death of the American Dream, and "The Good in Me is Dead" is a Joseph original from the standpoint of a young Kosovan refugee looking for his family at the country's border.
Joseph, named "Male Solo Artist of the Year" in the 2004 Welsh Musical Awards, combines intelligence, passion and profundity in each of his songs, and his live performances (described by the Boston Globe as "a profound live experience") also display an extemporaneous, crowd-winning sense of humor.
Customer Reviews:
A signature recording !.......2006-10-31
Lots of outstanding artists make a range of music for us to listen to and enjoy ( or not ); but special notice must be taken when a gifted musician/artist records what is by any measure : a gem. No, beyond that, what Martyn has produced here is a signature piece. Like Chris Smither (among a select group) this is an album of intelligent writing both lyrically and musically. I dare you to listen & not think....then, to listen again, and again all the while humming along. This is just really good stuff...sorry it took me so long to stumble upon it.
Whoever It Was..........2004-03-21
An incredible album by an artist who just keeps getting better and better...
Not a wasted moment on this album. It's that compelling...
Aside from the 2 bonus tracks at the end which aren't on the UK version, this is not as political as some of Martyn's albums. However, you can feel the emotion and energy behind every track. Martyn has a way of not only putting 1000% of himself behind every song, but he captures the gut reactions and feelings of his audience as well. This album is a must have for anyone who believes in music that reflects life, love, and politics...
