I didn't get into hip hop until about a year ago, and I have gradually been buying all the classic albums and the new good ones that come out. The artist I have the most of is...you guessed.. Jigga Man himself. At first I only had heard the newer Jay-Z on The Black Album and Vol.2 and Vol.3 and I thought that was great work, but Reasonable Doubt is awesome! The album is pure hip hop, great rhymes and great beats. Jay-Z always commits to quality and he built his foundation with one hell of a debut.

Worthy of being a classic........2007-03-07

I've been trying to get this album for almost 9 months. 9 months ago, I asked for it for my 12th birthday. But when my grandmother went to a store to get it for me, one of the workers said the album was out of print. I knew I could buy it off here but I didn't ask my dad because he would get me an edited version and I hate them. I went to Trinidad two weeks ago and saw it in a music store in the Port of Spain Airport. I couldn't believe it was there. I begged my dad to get it for me but the CD was the explicit version. He said he might get it for me on the way out and he did but on the conditions that I couldn't listen to it until we got home and that I paid him back. I had to pay him twenty dollars but it was still a great deal for me.
So I downloaded the CD on itunes at home and I loved it. It made his Kingdom Come album look terrible. I like Jay's music in this CD best and not any of his new music from Kingdom Come besides "Lost One" for a few reasons.
One, it might just be because everyone says this is his best album. Which is very understandable when you listen to it but sometimes you just ending up liking a song because you want to.
Two, more about the album, the lyrics are amazing and flow better with the beats. Jay-Z's one of my favorite rappers because I find that he always spits out the right words at the right time.
Three, the good guest appearences. I did enjoy the songs with guest appearences the most, particually Mary J's appearence in "Can't Knock The Hustle", Foxy Brown's in "Ain't No N****", and the Notorious B.I.G. in "Brooklyn's Finest."
I think I have to agree with most Jay-Z fans when they say this is his greatest album. Plus, I ain't no critic, but I don't normally give too many five star reviews. If I had to pick five rap albums to give five stars to, this would be one of them. I'm sorry to all you Kingdom Come fans but I just don't think his lyrics are as clever as they used to be. But's that's only my personal opinion and with it, Reasonable Doubt is 100% worthy of being an album of both critic and fan praise as well as a hip hop classic.

One Of The Finest From '96 (Rating: 10 out of 10- -5 Stars).......2007-03-03

Man oh man, to believe this is Jay-Z's debut here, "Reasonable Doubt". This album dropped back in 1996, when many rappers were looking at the materialistic side of things in music (i.e. money, fast cars, etc.). What Jay-Z did on his debut was a classic. Jay-Z probably already had money, but he was a hungry rapper, and his hunger showed throughout this album.

A lot of these songs here are classics. "Can't Knock The Hustle" that featured Mary J. Blige is one of the best songs on here (there is a remix with Melissa Morigan that is better than this), as well as the beat behind it. On this album, Jigga displays his excellent word play on here, like on "Politics As Usual", and the well known "Dead Presidents". The latter song has that well known sampled Nas sample "I'm out for dead F'in Presidents to represent me". Depending on which version of this CD you have, the song is either two verses or three verses. Mine is three.

Guest appearances also come clean as well. One of my favorite tracks is the Primo laced "Bring It On" featuring Jaz-O and Sauce Money. Also the late Notorious B.I.G. comes in for the song "BK's Finest" another dope track. Foxy Brown joins in with Jay for the "Ain't No *****". Even Memphis Bleek does a good job on the song "Comming Of Age" and the bonus song "Can I Live II".

Jay-Z dropped a classic back in '96, that still gets play here in '07. I loved this CD everytime I play it, because it's good to hear one of raps biggest icons back when he was just another rapper. Some may say that this is Jay-Z's best album. I really can't make that call on that right there, although people have already established their opinions. Although I believe that this is one of Jay's finest LPs.

i dont know what this freak is trying to say coming to the conclusion that this album doesn't have a-list producers, kid you are nuts.. this is some of the hottest production to ever come out of mainstream rap. maybe if you did research you'd know dj premier was all over this, with the likes of irv gotti, ski (amazing producer), clark kent, damon dash and peter panic.. and one track produced by knobody, which happens to be one of the best..

anyways, every track is hot.. jays lyrics were so on point its chilling (d'evils still sends shivers down my spine) just listen to premiers scratching.. underground heads know whats up .. this was and still is the hottest album jay dropped.. nothing comes close.. this is real rap before he sold out.. and jayz would be nothing with out BIG L (rest in peace) corleone 139 harlem new york represent to the fullest

The First Will Always Be The Best.......2007-01-27

Reasonable Doubt released in 1996....showed the world a hungry Shawn Carter....very few knew him from a verse he did on Original Flavor's "I Got Cha Open". As the first artist off the freshly christened Rocafella label, Jay-Z became Brooklyn's best representative overnight....his lead off single "Ain't No N***a" destroyed the air and radiowaves shared alongside femme fatale Foxy Brown. At first listen, you knew that Jay-Z was destined for greatness. Reasonable Doubt enlisted memorable guest appearances, and the lyrical prowess of Jay-Z made this an instant classic....even though 10 years later, I don't agree that Jay-Z still possesses the same lyrical greatness that caused him to skyrocket to the top of hip hop, this album will always remain in my steady rotation. To all of you youngsta's out there, don't claim that Jay-Z is a legend until you hear how it all started first.

This album is one of Candiria's best, not like their new rock stuff. The thing i didnt like was all of the jazz and rap thrown into the songs. It really wrecked this cd, or else it would be 5 stars. Same with all of their other old albums. But when you get to the hardcore and aggressive parts of this album, it's barely comparable to anything else. You cant even keep your head from turning into a bobblehead! Temple of Sickness is a good example; my favorite song. The breakdowns and changing rhythms are brutal. So if you like hardcore, rap, and jazz all thrown into one cd, Candiria is the way to go.

Candiria is one of the most talented,professional, and straight up aggressive bands out there. This album was one of the first HC cd's I got, and being a drummer I was blown away with the skill, and virsitility of Candiria. Then I saw them Live. HOLY SH*T, the pit was insane. Breakdown every 30 seconds. I don't think I could name more then 5 bands that mix core,metal,rap,hip hop,fusion,sound effects,break beats,ect. with the intensity and exparamentation this album and the others have. Any metal kid would like this album and any musician will love this album.

There is just one word that can describe Candiria....AMAZING! they are one of the best bands out there. If you like bands like Meshugga, the dilingers escape plan, and coalesce then u will love candiria.

This band is amazing! They are the perfect combnation of Hardcore/Death metal, with Punk, Jazz, Blues, Thrash, Urban Groves, And Hip Hop. Their lyrics are mind numbingly brutal, The Drummer is one of the most talented people in music today,and their songs are just Insane. Best of all? THEIR FROM MY HOME TOWN! My friend is good pals with Eric, The Guitarist of this very band! Candiria is the best band to come out of Brooklyn!

This cd is definately one of my favorites. Hardcore lyrics that drive into the depth of your own mental awareness, and beats that make you wanna start a mosh pit whenever you hear `em. Teaming up with the Lalalogists to make a couple rapcore songs, that are equally awesome, this band is summed up in one word: talent. Definately check these guys out!

Top 3 rap CDs of all time.......2004-05-10

This is one of the top three rap CD's ive ever heard. If you're into club bangers, this isn't the album for you, but thats the ONLY reason not to pick up this album. The beats are very tight and the lyrics are intelligent and make you think somewhat. I strongly suggest you pick up this album because as it gets older, it will be harder to find. I'm a casual rap fan, but this is well worth the money! Strong Buy!

This is his best work- the beats are tight and his rap with Biggie is just dope- his new stuff can't hold a candle to this CD- get it- it is more like the old school rap of the late 80's. You will not be disappointed.

This is before hip hop got as watered down and commercialized as it is now. It is raw, from a great era in hip hop. If you are looking for something flashy and blingy, this is not for you. If you like it real and dirty, you better get this.

The career of Jay-Z began with his first lp Reasonable Doubt that undoubtedly created an apparent change in hip-hop/rap after the release of this. He begins with more of the beginning of an epic with "Can't Knock The Hustle" featuring Mary J. Blige. The slow tales of hustling over a slow beat on "Politics As Usual". "Dead Presidents II - New Lyrics" seem to be the start of the bragging and his goals of not just being paid, but being rich. The almost jazz feel to "Feelin' It" featuring Mecca seem to bring out the depths of a hustler's mindset as Jay-Z as is "Can I Live". Unlike the rest of Jay's more recent releases he get's spiritual in his justifications on "D'Evils". A classic hip-hop/rap song that displays true lyricism, "22 Two's", as Jigga flows with a repition of to's that's way too nice for any emcee/rapper. This is a display of clean production and a dirtier, hungry feeling that makes this a classic. "Cashmere Thoughts" is a song about pimping and advice on how to. As Reasonable Doubt closes with "Regrets", the guitar and vibes of the tracks give off a path for the rest of the releases by Jay and the need to play it back.

Great Debut from Hova (4.5 stars).......2004-10-28

Jay-Z drops some fire for his debut album. One of his best works he's done. Features a few classic trax but is just short of a 5 star rating if you ask me. Features a 18 yr. old Bleek as well as a 17 yr. old Foxy Brown as wll as his neighborhood homie Sauce Money and a classic w/ Notorious B.I.G. (R.I.P.). Definitely worh pickin' up. The best tracks are:

The REAL Reasonable Doubt..........2004-05-29

Reasonable Doubt quite simply put, is one of hip-hop's finest masterpieces by one of its greatest artists. This album dropped back in the mid 90s when artists actually HAD to have talent in order to get respect. If you're a new fan (one that caught on after Hard Knock Life), then you should go back and hear his early material starting with this. 1996 was hip-hop's last truly incredible year. This album and Outkast's ATLiens were the premiere albums of that year. There's so much to say about this LP but amazon only allows 1,000 words so I'll try to keep it short.

The album is centered around the theme of hustling and the life of a hustler. Jay-Z had been living that life since 1988 and many refer to Reasonable Doubt as the Hustler's Bible, so to speak. It starts off with "Can't Knock the Hustle" with Mary J. Blige. The beat is perfect for the lyrics and Jay drops bombs. "Brooklyn's Finest" with BIG is one of hip-hop's greatest collaborations. Jay and BIG go back and forth and just tear the track to shreds. They come hard with metaphors, punchlines, and their sick flows. The beat is produced by Clark Kent. Now, my favorite track "Dead Presidents II" is just unbelievable. The production on this track by Ski is some of the best you'll ever hear. It samples Lonnie Liston Smith's "Dreams of Tomorrow" and compliments Jay's style perfectly. I would say this song is one of hip-hop's best (almost on the level of TROY). As for the lyrics go, it's basically about getting your money and going against all odds in order to acquire it. Another highlight for the LP is the Premo produced "D'Evils". Lyrically, this track is one of Jay's best ever. At the end of Jay's verse he says: "And even if Jehova Witness bet he'll never testify", need I say more? It would probably take several listens to understand all of the underlying lessons in this track. Basically put though, it's telling you to that you must be willing to do anything to accomplish your goals and dreams. Whether it be fame, wealth, or whatever. On "22 Two's", Jay-Z spits straight fire throughout the Ski-produced beat and if you pay attention you'll realize that Jay uses the word two/too/to 22 times on the song. Pretty clever. Another track I love is "Cashmere Thoughts". Some fans criticize the beat on this song but it's dope to me. Jay spits his verses in his laid back, smooth, mafia style flow. Check the lyrics: Eroll Flynn, hot like heroine/young pimps is thorough when I pimp through your borough and/I gotta keep your tricks in tact, cause I walk like a pimp, talk like a mack. "Bring it On" features Jay's mentor Jaz-O and fellow Brooklyn mc Sauce Money. The beat is amazing and is done by none other than DJ Premier. Listen to the verses on this song and prepare to be amazed. "Regrets" is a sort of melancholy track and Jay talks about that you have to learn to live with regrets when you live this lifestyle. The beat was an excellent match for the mood. It was the perfect clincher for the original version of Reasonable Doubt. The album ended on a perfect note. I can't think of many that ended better.

Bottom line: Many artists had touched on hustling before Reasonable Doubt but none went this deep into the subject. Jay really brought you the soul of a hustler on this LP and it is without a doubt his best work. It plays out like the musical version of a Scarface/Godfather type movie. Even an artist of Jay's caliber can't meet or exceed the quality of this LP again. It has a combination of great production AND lyrics unlike most of today's music which often has one or the other. If you can find it then I recommend you get this version of Reasonable Doubt rather than the 1999 reissue. This one flowed perfectly and ends perfectly. The reissue has "Can I Live II" which ruins the vibe.

It all Started in November 2002; The Nicholls Brothers James and Steve were Sick of their Surreal Suburban Surroundings and Set Out on a Mission to Produce a Style of Punk Rock Music that Fused the English Tradition of the Clash and the Jam with American Bands Such as Nofx and the Foo Fighters. They Quickly Recruited a Bassist (Daryl Sutton) and Drummer (Andy Borg) - the Songs Had Some Potential but They Knew Some Changes Had to Be Made to Give These Youngsters their Own Original Sound. Stevie Lambert was Soon Recruited in March 2003 as Second Guitarist Adding Harmonies and Depth to the Guitar Sound. Instruments were Played, Vocals were Sung and Songs were Flowing. The Quality and Catchiness of the Music was Increasing at a Hefty Pace. The Band Has Been Gigging Solidly Since their Formation, Building Up a Great Fanbase and Winning Over Many Audiences around the UK and Europe.

Disappointing.......2001-08-06

I found this album by chance in a local music store and, being a huge Prodigy fan, bought it at once. I didn't have high expectations, just knew that Leeroy had dropped a solo album after leaving the Prodigy crew and i still had a free place for it on the CD shelf. I'd already listened to some of Leeroy's tracks (the Twisted EP, and some remixes) which were actually kinda cool. After listening to this album here some time just to find something really interesting, I can only say that I'm still searching. Most of Leeroy's older tracks were more like dance music and showed that he really had some talent to it. 5 tracks on this album are of that kind, but not as good as the older tracks. The first track, Leeroy singing in a very boring way over a totally uninspired instrumental, this intro is already a downpoint to the album. # 2, 'Amazing' (released as a single)is very pop-influenced, but I can't say it's actually bad tho i don't like it at all. What U Need (single release) is more of a dance track and is actually pretty nice (I'd say the best track on the album), but nothing really special too. Some electronic beats and a woman singing. Inside Out was released on a promo earlier, more like his older tracks, but very repetitive beats, some scratching. #5 has a very nice beat in the beginning that is completely ruined when Leeroy starts to sing. 6 and 7 are just plain crap, Leeroy singin over pop music, guitars, wouldn't be worth a listen even a as b-side of some single. But they are short, at least. 8 is the third track in a row shorter than 3 minutes (what idiot made that tracklist?!), a dance beat that just gets slower, then faster again and finally stops as if you hit stop on your cdplayer. Sounds kinda unfinished/uninspired. 9 is aaight, 10 + 11 are awful (Leeroy singin again, he should stop that), 12 is a 6-minute long instrumental. Listening to the loop on Leeroy's homepage for 6 minutes is about the same. Sounds ok, still. Number 13 was kinda funny as a b-side of the Twisted EP but is absolutely corny on the album; its' reggae-like feeling doesn't fit with the album at all. 14 is, together with the intro, the worst track on the album. Again, I just don't understand why the album is mixed THAT way. It's like, three previously released tracks in a row, then three very short tracks, and finally the only collabos as the final ones. 1,6,7,8,10,11,14 are just awful, 2 to 5 the 'best'.
