Customer Reviews:
raw and gritty.......2005-09-17
this is a really interesting album that leans more towards concept hiphop but it is good concept Hiphop. The production is mostly handled by OHNO but this is not a typical OHNO release it is different in that it is less like MADLIB stuff and more like OHNO is trying to do something new. LMNO has some great points to make as an MC and is very political and on point with his subject matter. I found myself saying WORD many times throughout this album if you like MANCHILD from MARSILL you will probably like LMNO. While every track is not great this is still one worth picking up.
Wrong Cover...please Read.......2005-06-04
The cover showing here is for "This EP Reminds me of '93."
I now realized that the review is for "Economic Food Chain Music."
LMNO is the type of artist some either love or hate. Ironically, since his start, the people who have given him the most props and respect have been other respected artists.
LMNO sounds like no one else but himself, has a unique rhythm and delivery, and speaks from the heart about what is most meaningful to him.
This day and age, there are many "White" rappers getting exposure, and are more accepted on a mass level. LMNO was making an impact in the hip-hop world long before the explosion of Eminem; LMNO guest appeared on the underground classic "E=MC5" on the Key-Kool & Rhettmatic "Kozmonautz" album in 1995, alongside Ras Kass, arguably outshining even Ras, who was considered the hottest lyricist then and now. So much respect was shown that Ras even asked LMNO to demo an answer to "Nature of the Threat," from a European perspective. Within that same time period, Eminem had come to LA to look for a record deal (that he landed with Dr. Dre), and was heard asking "what's up with LMNO?"
LMNO is not for the elementary rap listener, and only those with the ability to understand, will understand and appreciate. While LMNO continues to get major respect from some of the top MC's and Producers this day and age, critics of LMNO seemingly just haven't reached that level of understanding yet.
LMNO's family is Up Above Records, he has been a part of the label since 1995, and has been best friends with the label Co-Owner and Visionaries member Key-Kool for over 15 years. LMNO had the opportunity to work with Battle Axe for one album, and they graciously gave him back the rights to the album to release it on his home team Up Above Records.
Although this is written to give praise to a truly underrated and criticized artist, I am sure it would mean nothing to the artist that humbly praises the Creator and asks to "Leave My Name Out."
This Alubm Will Grow On You.......2004-11-11
Being an avid LMNO fan, for his strange off-pace flow and his brutally honest lyrics, I was expecting big things from Economic Food Chain Music. When I first popped it in and scanned the tracks I was actually quite disappointed. The beats are very artistic, some of them dont even use drums (pure precussion, wood blocks, sticks etc). The songs that instantly got my head bobbing were LMNO (probably the feature hit of this album) and Damsel in Distress. The other tracks are pretty underground sounding, but I found that the more I listened to this album, the more it grew on me... its nice to hear something different enough that I'd call it set apart in hip-hop. Worth buying, but only if you have an open mind and give it a chance.
Why, LMNO.........2004-09-20
LMNO is one of my favorite artists. But... why did he have to change from Battle Axe Records to "Up Above Records." He's beats are tight and his voice is one-of-a-kind.
Lyricist's Music's Notably Outstanding!!.......2004-06-23
When I heard this album, I was blown away. The beats are tight and LMNO's lyrics are always on point. OHNO's beats are amazing and I'm glad he did most of the album...although the other producers are solid as well. If you are a true underground head, you will listen to this album without skipping and you will have a sore neck. I prefer LMNO as a solo artist opposed to with the Visionaries because I think his content and flow is superior to all the other members. I'm sure a lot of people would disagree with me. Go cop this one though. You won't be disappointed.
The Bangers are: MOVES DON'T MAKE YOU, LIFE IS...A COME UP (feat. Wildchild), SOUVENIR, (MORE) PAWNS (THAN) DONS, and last but not least I-TINUOUS BLESSINGS (w./ Visionaries)
