I'm sure no one remembers these five cats from Harlem, NY that hit the scene in 1992. Zhigge dropped a hot single called "Toss It Up" and then faded to black. This album has hot beats and two of the five MCs have some serious skills. The fact that the other three MCs are kind of wack only takes this album down about half a star. The strongest thing about this album is Salaam Remi's production. He produces the whole album (except for "Harlem" which he produces with assistance from Milo Johnson). For those of you that are too young to remember hip hop in '92, Salaam Remi produced Nas' "Made You Look" and most of the songs on the whole God's Son album. Don't expect the same dark sound though. Hip hop in '92 was on more of a political / islam / party vibe and this album is right along those same lines. Overall, the CD is solid for a debut album. The good songs are REALLY good, but the bad songs are REALLY bad. I can understand why it was slept on, but I still like it. If you're into old school, you might like this, but you've been warned.
