    Conchord ensemble certainly is bright and clear musicians, highlighted by outstanding instrumentalists, the likes of Daniel Pailthorpe/flue; Emily Pailthorpe/oboe; Barnaby Robson/clarinet; Nicholas Korth/horn; Douglas Paterson/viola; Bridget MacRae/cello. Pianist Julian Milford is just vibrant and passionate player here on this recording.

    Sing quality of Loeffler 5 Rhapsodies for oboe, viola and piano are exquisite display of the three instrumentalists, and is just outstanding!

    Pierne's work for flute, viola and harp ending with a delightful gigue is lively fun.

    Durufle again highlights the viola, flute and piano, especially provocative is the Gregorian chant theme.

    This one will grow on the listener with hearing of this new and profoundly gifted ensemble.

    I happened to be in London when Conchord debuted in the Wigmore Hall and I was blown away by the quality of the playing and delighted by their performance with their obvious conviviality. I bought this CD there and was delighted to see that the quality of their playing as I heard it comes through on the CD. What truly amazing young players they are ( from Britain, U.S. and Canada). Daniel Pailthorpe plays the flute with rare sensitivity and beauty; Julian Milford is an accompanist to die for;Emily Pailthorpe's oboe playing is the best I have ever heard anywhere. Watch this group, for they will go far. Anyone who loves chamber music will love this CD.

      I, too, am a chamber musician. I first purchased this because I wanted to hear others' interpretations of these songs, having read through them once. After I first listened to this CD I sat there simply stunned by the musicianship, the technical brilliance and the heart and soul these musicians gave to this gorgeous music. If I had to give up all CD's but one, this would be the one I kept. As a result I have also been curious to know more about Mr. Loeffler, and purchased Ms. Knight's biography. This CD clearly opened a door and I'm grateful to those involved. *I'm glad one of the sellers has a reasonable price attached.

      As a violist with friends who are singers, I am always looking for new repertoire. I was delighted to find these songs by Loeffler!The recording is fantastic- playful and dramatic as the songs call for, with a first-rate ensemble. The interplay between all the members of the group, their musicality, and technique really made me love this music and search for the scores.

            Andy Creeggan had it all but he wanted more. As a founding member of The Barenaked Ladies, Andy saw the group rise from obscurity to top of the charts, but, it wasn't for him. "I wanted space for my music, my personality. I was always very interested in instrumental music and I wanted to take advantage of having been accepted at the Faculty of Music at McGill University in Montreal and really pursue theory and composition."
            Along with his brother Jim Creeggan (Barenaked Ladies bass player), Andy was brought up in a musical household in which their mother taught piano and their father played by ear. The Creeggans are a family that lives for music. As such, the two brothers also perform and record as The Brothers Creeggan, releasing three cds thus far and touring between Barenaked Ladies albums.
            Andiwork II is Andy Creeggan's second solo album and the first to be nationally distributed. It is an understated and quietly complex work that showcases a young composer weaving textural ambient pieces that draw from classical, jazz, new age and even 50s exotica with an underlying dry humour that will occassionally rise to the forefront (an excerpt with Andy coaxing his dad in the studio, for example). It is cinematic in scope and breadth and yet comfortable enough to work as a late night chill album for background sonics. Featuring members of the Toronto Symphony and drummers Ian McLauchlan (Brothers Creeggan) and Mark McLean (of the acclaimed Jane Bunnett jazz ensemble).

            When I got this cd, i expected it to be more like his work with Brothers Creegan, but it is 98% instrumental, sounding like he is just messing around with music. Good music, but more something that i would play in the background, while doing something else.

              Anticon: A collection of artists that all make some amazing hip hop together. This album is Alias second, and first instrumental project. True he has laid down beats for most of the anticon associates over the years but this is just him making some amazing beats. Alias generally goes for the spooky and ominous sounds maybe with some grainy vocals cut in to the track as well. In the vein of RJD2 or Odd Nosdam (another anticon instrumentalist), this album flows from beginning to end with some samples for the true beat digger to decipher, two guest lyricists, and lots of drums and synths. I do not really now how to describe this album other than to say that it is amazing. Alias has done something special here that needs to be heard by the world so buy a copy for you and a copy for a friend, they will love it.

              I had never even heard of this guy, until someone sent me a copy in the mail. This is the epitome of great "i'm hard at work on the computer" music. Every song is so well layered, with just the right amount of beats, sounds and melody...it is amazing. If you are a fan of DNTEL (the "lay the beatdown" part the postal service) or a fan of NOTWIST, or if you dig hip-hop or "lap hop" (it is an anticon release), or even if you HATE rap, but you want people to think you are cool in a few years when this guy is a household name,and you can say you say "i knew him when..."
              Sorry, look, just buy this cd now. It really is good.
