Heist of the Century
Editorial Reviews
The Source
The strength of Heist... isn't in its storytelling, it's in La's ability to put an unexpected twist on a couple of all-too-familiar story lines.... Most of the tracks drown in mid-tempo drums laced with nocturnal sound loops. And La's delivery, while showing signs of promise, doesn't quite break from the Killa B pack.

Best storyteller.......2007-07-09
Another member of the Wu-Tang Clan, La The Dark Man is another Killer Bee out of the hive. Blessed with blazing hot tracks from producer Carlos "Six July" Broady ("T.O.N.Y.," "Can't Hold Me Down"), La kicks verses with his unique style. Guest appearance from Raekwon, Ghostface U-God and Masta Killah and Havoc of Mobb Deep. Keep the debut release from La rockin' deep into its eighteen tracks. The album features tracks produced by Broady as well as RZA ("Polluted Wisdom"), Muggs ("Heist of the Century"), 4th Disciple ("Fifth Disciple," "Love") and Havoc ("City Lights"). Other tracks to check out are "Lucci," "Gun Rule" and "4 Souls." HEIST OF THE CENTURY is packed with streetworthy knowledge and mind elevating lyrics, from hip-hop's brightest MC's. La the dark!
The best Wu affiliate there is.......2007-07-04
Some members of Wu-Tang & affiliates, are pretty dope, some are lackluster, and some are plain garbage.
La the Darkman, stands high amongst all of the above. I have dug Wu-Tang, since their 1993 debut, and always bought the next one out. When La the Darkman, came out with his smash, "Heist of the Century", I almost lost it. It isn't the fact that he, like the rest of them, talk about life on the streets, though his voice pain-stakingly tells you the horror of it, it is because of the fact, that his story-telling, vivid imagination, and unparalleled ability to put his heart into EVERY track, combined with dope beats, and hard life attitude, are the basis behind making this c.d. a winner.
I would say that my five (and there is more) favorite tracks are...
Shine
Lucci
Fifth Disciple
Polluted Wisdom
Az The World Turnz
Listen to this gem for yourself and hear how a Wu affiliate rocked the industry.
Peace

LA The Darkman - Heist Of The Century.......2006-04-17
Much respect due to LA, since hes Wu affiliated. This album is really raw, its got its underground style production, and the lyrics are definately on point. On the street scene, life in the street and everything to tie in with it. I thought the production went perfectly with his flow and lyrics, so thats a big plus. He gots the real lyrics, none of that bubblegum sh**, so im feelin it. Of course, this album isnt in print no more, so you should go to eBay to find this album for a decent price. But people will be charging quite a bit since its a rare album. I definately recommend you pick this up! It has the same type of WU sound youll like!

THIS ALBUM'S DARK..MAN.......2006-02-10
I don't know much about La the darkman, I mean despite being a big Wu fan I had not heard much information about him. I knew that he had featured on Dj Muggs's first Soul Assassins album and that he was one of the Wu affiliates most eagerly anticipated.
Continuing with the tradition of classic Wu-Tang the album starts with the Kung-fu movie sample before the first track kicks in and you start to realise this could be something special and Im glad to say it is. There are many serious tracks on here such as Lucci, Shine, Love and the title track which was produced by Muggs.
The production on here is tight keeping within the dark Wu soundscape, unfortunatly there is only one track (Polluted Wisdom) which was produced by Rza but the other tracks are held down by people like Havoc of Mobb Deep, 4th Disciple, Muggs and even Raekwon has a stab at producing a track with the help of Carlos (Six July) Brody which is where much credit must be given since he produced the majority of the album.
Also in keeping with the Wu authenticity the album features members of the Wu-Tang such as Raekwon, U-God, Ghostface Killah and Masta Killah along with fellow affiliates Killa Sin (Killarmy) and 12 o'Clock (Brooklyn zu) plus Havoc drops a verse along with a few others.
La himself is solid, capable of holding his own although he is not in my opinion the best of the affiliates he carries himself well giving his take on the harsh reality of the streets.
Overall this album is fantastic, most of the tracks are of good quality and in my opinion this is deffinatley in the top twenty of all time great Wu albums but it is not a classic, there is just not enough of a spark to make it as memorable as other Wu releases but it is almost there.
