Bacdafucup, Part II [Explicit Lyrics]

To many listeners, the fact that mid-'90s cartoon rappers Onyx are back at all begs a simple question: Why? With lines like "Onyx is shoot-outs with your moms inside," you'd be hard-pressed to admit it's for the rhymes, unless you were a really huge fan the first time around. And although the beats (courtesy of Self, DaVinci, D.R. Period, and others) are serviceable in a bombastic, "grimy-crimey" kind of way, they also wouldn't sound out of place on any of ESPN's Jock Jams compilation albums. The standout clunkers are pretty painful to hear, especially "Slam Harder," with its unfortunate Welcome Back Kotter riff, and the vaguely smoothed out "Gangsta," which is yet another entry into the "me and my b!#@h" sweepstakes. The Havoc-produced "Hold Up" and Self's "Hood Beef" help the Queens rappers redeem themselves slightly, but overall the trio come off as M.O.P. without the requisite street credibility or the music for preteens to torture their parents. --Rebecca Levine

Negitive Reviews? Why.......2006-02-20
Lets just get one thing staight. This isnt the best effort by Onyx, yet you really can't compare anything to Bacthafukup, because that was a masterpiece, and its really hard to duplicate an album that is that good, YET, this is still a solid record, and even though not perfect, its still worth 3 1/2 stars in my book. I think that some fans also dont like some of the songs, because some of them have an old-school beat to them, and most people under the age of 18 seem to like modern rap, which most of it is a joke. The old-school guys that still are around to make us albums are a treat to have, considering that the music bizz is throwing out more hip-hop then we can shake a stick at. Onyx is one of the old school bands that gave us some pretty hard s#*t back in the day, and this album, not as hard as older Onyx, is still better then most newer stuff. I'll take this over 50 or Ja Rule anyday of the week. Once again, I think that fans that like old school hip-hop might like this one for sheer fact that it does have some old-school vibe to it, and plus, its ONYX!
Just barely..........2006-01-20
I just barely give this 3 stars. I'll admit "Slam Harder" rocked my head about 3 summers ago, and I was DYING to get this album. I bought it and was pissed off. The first 4 or 5 tracks were good, then it goes down hill from there. The best song on there is the "Hold Up" song with the production from Havoc of Mobb Deep. No where near Onyx's expectations, and not even close to the previous 3 albums that they've made. I haven't given up on them yet, because I'm going to buy Backdafucup, All We Got Iz Us, and Shut Em Down, to hear how they really sound. This album is just unacceptable for any fan.
Wack.......2005-09-21
Any body who gives this more than 2 stars either is die hard fans or they just started listening to rap in 2002. This is'nt even a shadow of what Onyx used to be. If slam harder is the sequel to slam, then I guess what they say is true about sequels then. This album is very bad, avoid and cop they early albums.
ONYX.......2004-11-04
people hate on this album so much, it's not nearly as good as bacdafucup, a.w.g.i.u or shut em down but it's not bad. I'd really give it about 6.5/10 just cuz it's short and is not really as grimey as it should be, but im gonan give it 5 for the sake of onyx- best rap trio ever
