Pudgee, where you at?.......2004-05-10
Believe it or not the beats here are handled by the Trakmasterz. These guys make pop rap these days but back in 93 they were pretty cool. Thing is, although the beats are heavy, the production is still a little bit too polished compared to a lot of the gritty sounding street stuff that was coming out back then. Pudgee himself is an emcee of MAJOR skills... His lyrics are hitting but he relies too much on lazy "crew of brothers shouting"-type hooks rather than loops or cool samples. This makes the album sound kinda dated because that was an old thing that they don't do anymore. Overall though this is a solid album, good beats, lacking on the hooks but some mind blowing raps from this seriously underrated (and forgotten) emcee. You've got to check out this album just to hear this guy, he's that good.
I just can't believe he's not around anymore. With clowns like Eminem getting credit for being a 'lyricist', there isn't an emcee out there right now that could hang with Pudgee. Come back Pudgee! Where you at??
