Duck Season, Vol. 2 [Explicit Lyrics]
Editorial Reviews

Unlike the mostly NY-centric focus by other DJs, Babu has always made sure his West Coast peers get equal time. While NY stalwarts like Talib Kweli ("Raise the Bar"), KRS-One ("Underground"), and Gang Starr ("Deadly Habits") are in the mix, so are the Bay Area's Planet Asia ("Right or Wrong") and L.A.'s Chace Infinite ("Do For Self"), Defari ("Behold My Life" remix), and of course, Dilated Peoples, who pop up three times, most effectively on Rakaa's solo joint, "Ends to Means." Duck Season 2 is markedly consistent in sound and pacing, which, on one hand, bespeaks Babu's expert mixing skills. However, it'd also be nice to hear Babu reach out more, beyond just the underground independent world, and diversify the sound of his mix-CD with different kinds of artists besides certified mic rippers. Duck Season 2 preaches effectively to the choir, but Babu could stand to get his message to a bigger congregation too. --Oliver Wang

It's DUCK SEASON PUNKS!!!!!!!!.......2003-10-11
Babu has got to be one of the most skilled and excellent mixtape and live DJ in the game, as well as the "backbone" of Dilated Peoples, and a member of the Beat Junkie Crew. He can also hold his own in the studio behind the boards too. I got into Dilated last year because of their affiliation with Defari who I got into because of his affiliation with Xzibit and Tha Liks. After listening to Defari's "Focused Daily" I was jonesin for more of that PLATFORM Sound, so I went and copped Dilated's "Expansion Team"LP on the strenght of Ev's verse and production on the Defari LP and because of the producers on it;Primo,Da Beatminerz,EV and of course The Alchemist. After copping both Dilated LP's my jonse still wasn't satisfied so I went lookin for more Dilated stuff and I see Babu the Dilated Junkie "Duck Season" and I copped without second thought and I was not let down it had everybody from MOP,The Beatnuts,J5,De La Soul,Defari,Dilated, Phil Tha Agony and the incredible Alchemist produced "The Man/The Icon" by Big Daddy Kane. That album blew me away and yet I still wanted more so I went out and got evrything Dilated was on, Everything Ev produced on, everything Defari was on and my new favorite producer The Alchemist's body of work too. Then I 'm just checkin out some sites on the net and I see(To much saprize a pop up for Duck Season 2) So I go cop it and its a lil different from DS 1. DS1 was a more amped up harder sound, but DS2 balances things out ,its got its hard street anthems, "Street" by AG(of Show & AG/DITC), "Think Fast" by Infamous Mobb, and "Serious" by The Alchemists 1st Infantry and the rest of the tracks are more melodic and laid back but you will not be dissapointed with this LP peep "Ends to Means" by Rakaa f/ Evidence, "Right or Wrong" by Planet Asia, "Time To Rep" by Medaphor,Oh NO,& WildChild, "The Song" by Krondon, "I Got This" by Tha Likwit Junkies(Babu and Defari) and KRS-One's "Underground". The rest of the LP; skits included are dope and show alot of time, effort, energy, and devotion was put in the making of this LP there are no weak moments and no half A*$ tracks. If your down with Dilated or any of the other Artists on this piece cop it or if your just a hiphop junkie and your fiendin for a fix score this LP I promise you'll be satisfied for many plays to come, Be on the lookout for the new Dilated LP coming Feb. 2004 so until then just chill out, spin up a spliff and throw Duck Season2 in the cd player,Tape Deck, or thew trusty old TurnTables and let Babs blow your mind. PEACE ,Love and Expansion!!!!!!!!!!!!
Fresh, new and chill to the max.......2003-10-02
I love this mix CD, but if you _only_ like it hard, you won't like Babu's Duck Season 2. These tracks are laidback, mellow, melodic and very musical. A lot of my favorite MCs are on here, like Phil Da Agony, Defari, Talib Kweli, and A.G. The song from Chace Infinite of Self Scientific has a GREAT message that we all need to hear every once in awhile. The ultra-melodic remix of Defari's "Behold My Life" comes with all-new revamped lyrics from Defari, not just new beats & melodies.
This is my second time listening to this CD and I'm really digging it. At first I was expecting the heavy, hectic sounds of Volume 1, so it took a couple listens for me to wrap my head around this disc. But now that I have, I hear subtle mixing techniques from Babu, expertly crafted and executed. He's my favorite of the Beat Junkie crew and this is the kind of Hip Hop I like, so I'm down with it. But if you gotta have it rough, this CD ain't for you. This one is for chillin'.
Oh... and if you're wondering, there's still that same little kid doing the shout-outs at the beginning. Hilarious. I love it.
Essential underground hip-hop.......2003-09-27
"Duck Season 1" was one of the most ambitious and exciting rap compilation mixes of the last year, no doubt, and established Babu as one of the better DJs around. Instead of trying to outdo Volume 1, the new "Duck Season" is far more laid back and sophisticated in terms of song choice, mood, and overall vibe. If Volume 1 was for the ride and a bunch of brothers cruising around on a Saturday night, Volume 2 is its mellow cousin, not exactly hitting you in the face but keeping the flow. I'd say both of them are two of the best mix CDs since the "Superrappin'" compilations. A must.
