Bad Company [Soundtrack]
Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com
There's a distinct flavor of mystery and intrigue woven through the hip-hop and rap found on the Bad Company soundtrack. Tricky's charcoal-hued rasp intones menace over a kaleidoscope of piano, background vocals, and factory-like noises, while the Dub Pistols' song contains a melancholy guitar riff snaking through its moody textures, like the gloomier moments from Moby's Play filtered through street-weary lyrics. Gorillaz, D12, and ex-Specials' member Terry Hall creep and stomp in a haunted house of beats and samples, while trip-hopping of the sinister (Jahei featuring Duganz) and longingly crooning (Rama Duke) varieties continue the emotive atmospheres. Save for Next's classic slice of soul singing, songs that deviate from the ominous ambience fare worse--Pretty Willie's repetitive "Na Na" and Jagged Edge's watery remake of Air Supply's "All Out of Love" especially misstep, marring an otherwise excellent soundtrack. --Annie Zaleski

Original Bad Company Anthology Review.......2007-06-14
I have always loved Bad Company's music. This CD has all of their best songs. "Seagull" is their greatest song.
Needs Better Remastering..........2007-06-11
Nothing wrong with the songlist but this set disappointed me with its mixing. I found it very flat and lacking THE PUNCH needed to kick a**...I gather that the original Bad Co. masters were not in tremendous shape, but if Jimmy Page had stepped in and helped to remix the old Bad Co. as well as he remixed Led Zeppelin - this might have been stunning stuff. But that would have probably taken some time. I'm almost tempted to say go seek out the vinyl and enjoy that...I hope someone somewhere will find a way to improve this mix. Nice booklet though.
"Must Have" for Bad Co fans.......2007-01-14
Short and sweet...this anthology is comprised of the greatest works of one of the greatest bands in Rock & Roll...it is worth every penny
Rock n Roll not watered down.......2006-11-10
Singer Paul Rodgers in his prime was arguably the best voice ever
in rock. At present he is still pretty damn good. The band was productive in a time when men were not afraid to be men and rock and the keep it
simple yet up tempo power rock style is evident in the songs.
Bands today too often forget to save the drama for high school drama
class. There is too much fluff and not enough raw power and power chord structure. Bad Co. never forgot the pleasure of having a few drinks, turning the amp up to 11 and just letting the rock do the talking. The
combination of a solid Bad Co. bottom end, a great drummer and Rodgers
pool hall guy enthusiasm just plain works.
Poor man's Zeppelin.......2006-09-06
This collection, the "Original Bad Company Anthology," is the one to get if you're looking for a perfect overview of this famous band. Born in the era when rock music was getting down to "business," you know, well crafted "connect-the-dots" rock, but fortunately, this is pretty good overall, for being a poor man's Led Zeppelin. Also, this anthology really delivers with a good choice of tunes and amazing digital-remaster sound quality on two semi-packed CD's. I don't know if I needed two packed discs, so no complaints. Disc one is much stronger than disc two by a long shot, but still pretty enjoyable overall.
The four "new" songs at the end of disc two are alright, but forgettable. Apparently it's hard for an old band to come up with something new and really good in the modern era of rock. Only Deep Purple has been able to do this in my opinion. Actually, I'd love to see a two disc anthology like this one, for the classic Deep Purple lineup. After all, they are one of the biggies. Case closed!
As for this collection, I didn't mind too much that the later Bad Company albums were skimmed over, if you know what I mean. Nice job there. Enjoy it with a few beers and whatever you can find to inhale.

Former Free ("All Right Now") lead singer Paul Rodgers and former Mott the Hoople guitarist Mick Ralph had the success of their new band, Bad Company, almost guaranteed. Rodgers's rough growl and Ralph's simple and sustained power chords came together to make some of the most popular hard rock of the '70s. "Can't Get Enough" added a bit of boogie to the formula, while "Feel Like Makin' Love" and "Ready for Love" slowed things down a bit. As a rule the band packed the most wallop with the slower verses followed by the amps-to-ten chorus and endings in their odes to women, whiskey, and song. "Shooting Star," was standard Bad Company, a slow rocker in the form of a cautionary tale about stardom and excess. The band seemed almost adverse to playing straight-four rockers, despite the power chords and guitar swells. Even in their eponymous track the dynamics ebbed and flowed. Only "Rock 'N' Roll Fantasy" carried the same intensity through most of the song. 10 from 6 only makes one error by leaving out the hard rock blues of "Good Lovin' Gone Bad." --Steve Gdula

Classic Rock Rocks.......2007-06-02
The reviewers who've ripped this have chiefly criticized that it's not complete enuff in comparision to some other anthologies. Whatever. The stuff that is here is 10 of the best Bad Com songs and makes for a great litle piece of 70s rock. Most tunes are so well known there's no need to go in depth. Can't Get Enough is great rock. Feel Like Makin' Love is a good, mellower tune about you know what. Run With the Pack has a cool chorus. "Shooting Star" is a good, poignant tune about a kid who makes it big then self-destructs. "Bad Company" is about a guy always on the wrong side of the law. "Electric Land" is a cool song, kinda bluesy and jazzy. "Ready for Love" alternates interestingly between mellow piano parts and choppy guitar parts. "Live for the Music" has heavy, choppy guitar.
This is a great piece of 70s rock.
10 FROM 6 BY BAD COMPANY IS NOT A BAD MINI COMPILATION........2007-03-23
I will be writing a review on the legendary compilation album entitled "10 FROM 6" by one of Rock's greatest bands. I give you one of England's pride and joy's, BAD COMPANY. The compilation "10 FROM 6" album was originally released in 1985 on Vinyl/LP and Cassette on the Swan Song Inc. Records label in association with Atlantic Records. Swan Song Inc. Records was owned by THE MIGHTY LED ZEPPELIN. I purchased the very first release of this compilation album on Compact Disc in the late 80's. As always, if I hear any new additional information concerning this legendary compilation album or the artist, I will edit this review immediately so that you the consumer will get the best informative and most accurate review possible.
BAD COMPANY will forever go down in Rock n' Roll history and be remembered for recording some of Rock's most classic songs during one of Rock's finest hours. BAD COMPANY, comprising of legendary lead vocalist Paul Rodgers, Mott The Hoople lead and rhythm guitarist Mick Ralphs, drummer Simon Kirke and bassist Boz Burrell would be formed in 1973. Also in 1973, BAD COMPANY would be the first Rock n' Roll band to be signed to LED ZEPPELIN'S Record Label Swan Song Inc. BAD COMPANY would record great songs full speed ahead from 1974 to 1982. During this period, some of BAD COMPANY'S songs would also become Rock anthems which would endure to this very day. BAD COMPANY'S "10 FROM 6" compilation album is a mini-collection of their greatest hits from 1974 to 1982 on one CD. In my opinion, "10 FROM 6" is a true testament of the musical genius and creativity of four talented musicians and a fine fitting tribute to a great band that was indeed, far ahead of their time.
It is time for me to let BAD COMPANY'S Rock n' Roll speak for itslf and do all of the talking. This legendary compilation album doesn't waste any time when it begins with the blistering Rocker "Can't Get Enough," the smooth slow Rock anthem "Feel Like Makin' love," the a*s kicking Rocker "Run With The Pack," the groundbreaking acoustic Rock n' Roll story "Shooting Star," the ramblin' Rocker "Movin' On," the legendary self-titled merciless Rocker that started it all, "Bad Company," the full-hearted Rocker with a great beat, "Rock n'Roll Fantasy." the mysterious mild Rocker "Electric Land," the slow soothing sizzlin' Rocker "Ready For Love" and the fast paced Rocker with an attitude, "Live For The Music." May I also add that Paul Rodgers merciless lead vocals were hitting their mark throughout this whole compilation album. Lead and rhythm guitarist Mick Ralphs blistering riffs and licks were setting the tone for the music and taking it to the next level.
Overall, "10 FROM 6" is definitely a great compilation album worth seeking out and checking further into especially if you are a devout BAD COMPANY diehard collector or if you are a newcomer or beginner to the sound and music of BAD COMPANY. However, I would also like to highly recommend purchasing the BAD COMPANY "Anthology" album on a Two-Compact Disc set released in 1999. With the "Anthology" album, you get more songs throughout BAD COMPANY'S long and glorious career.
I would like to highly recommend purchasing this legendary compilation album to own as a valuable and important part of his or her own personal music collection. This legendary compilation album has already proven to stand the test of time and will always be around to be enjoyed, appreciated and cherished for many years to come, NOW AND FOREVER. In my opinion, "10 FROM 6" is one BAD COMPANY mini-collection that no devout BAD COMPANY collector would want to be without.
In closing, BAD COMPANY would have their fair share of ups and downs and highs and lows throughout their whole career. With that in mind, BAD COMPANY would persevere for many years despite Rodgers' departure in 1982. Rodgers would then go on to form the band THE FIRM with LED ZEPPELIN guitar legend Jimmy Page in the mid 80's. However, after a long break and layoff, Rodgers would return to the fold for the long awaited BAD COMPANY reunion in 1999. BAD COMPANY would release a new studio album in 2000. Rodgers recently has been touring as the leading frontman of the legendary Rock band QUEEN with all of the remaining surviving members. I really truly believe with all of my heart that we have not seen or heard the last of BAD COMPANY yet. BAD COMPANY has contributed and accomplished so much in Rock n' Roll that I still feel that there is still a lot more to come from this legendary band. THE BEST IS STILL YET TO COME. So here's to you Paul, Mick, Simon and Boz. Thanks for the great memories. Keep Persevering. Keep The Faith. And as the saying goes, "AND THE REST IS ROCK N' ROLL HISTORY," need I say more? Thanks for reading my review and I hope you have enjoyed reading it as much as I have enjoyed writing it for your reading pleasure. I also hope that you will read all of my other reviews in the near future when time permits. BAD COMPANY RULES. Long Live Rock n' Roll. Rock out always and take it easy. Forever In Rock, John L.

All Right Now.......2006-09-26
There are only ten songs here but all ten are classics. Bad Company was a fantastic band and this features ten of their best. They also have other great songs so if you want a bigger collection get the Anthology.
A very good taster.......2005-12-28
I had heard a couple of Bad Co's songs (and loved them), so decided to buy this 80's compilation which covers 10 songs. It also was a bargain price. The good news is, the 10 songs chosen for this compilation are fantastic and a very good representation of what the band offered in its day. All the well known classics are here including:
- Rock and Roll Fantasy
- Can't get enough of your love
- Feel like makin' love
- Shooting Star
Basically, this album gave me a very good sample of this great band. I then went out and bought the double Anthology CD to get more of their songs. I'll still hang on to "10 from 6" because it features two great songs not found on Anthology ("Electric Land", and "Live for the Music").
Anthology is digitally remastered, but if you just want a decent snapshot of this great band, look no further than "10 from 6". Don't you know that you are a shooting star?

Far and away the best Bad Co........2007-08-01
This was an incredible debut from a seventies super group that lived up to and probably exceeded everyone's expectations. A hard rocking soul-filled masterpiece from beginning to end! Every track is a standout, not a weak note anywhere. "Straight Shooter" was an excellent second album, but each of the following releases would fall off dramatically in quality. This is their masterwork and a forever classic album.
Bad Company.......2007-04-28
Bad Company *****
Bad Company was the first band signed to the Swan Song label ran and owned by the legendary Led Zeppelin. Bad Company was really in all reality the only really good band on the label other then Led Zeppelin as they signed themselves to the label later in their career.Bad Company was something of a supergroup in their day if you want to call it that, Paul Rogers from Free, and Mick Ralphs and Simon Kirke from King Crimson, and Boz Burrell was from another band. This is the bands self titled and first album, as well as their best, after this is was honestly down hill. Bad Company is full of slow grooves and sexy vocals and lyrics creating and launching one of the biggest areana rock bands of all time. Injected with loads of Bluesy guitar leads and soulful vocals, being released in 1974 this album was destinend to become a classic.
The album opens with what may be the bands biggest hit and signature song, 'Cant Get Enough' a song that when released was a massive success and even to this day still gets major rotation time on the classic rock and hard rock radio stations, that is because the song is truly a classic. 'Rock Steady' is another classic Bad Company song. This song also became a radio hit and staple for the band, lots of bluesy guitar licks make this one of the best songs on the album. 'Ready For Love' is one of the best songs Bad Company ever recorded. Its slower and very sexy. Clocking in at exactly five minutes the song is the perfect length. The powerful vocals from Rogers are some of his career best. The song can also be haunting and at times sad deppending on your current state of love. And once again this song too was and still is a massive radio success. 'Dont Let Me Down' slows things down a bit and brings in the piano for a little bit more of a soul feel. Now this is nothing new, Bad Company is known for having lots and lots of soul, this song just takes it to a whole 'nother level. This is one of the better songs on the album, very beautiful. The bands title track and the albums title track 'Bad Company' is one of if not the bands best song. It is very dark and very errie. It is a great song and when you listen to it, its lyrics depict a westen story meets The Outsiders. This was another big hit for the band. 'The Way I Choose' is another slower song, it doesnt really stand out. 'Movin On' was yet another great and big hit song for Bad Company. Its a great hard rocker and one of the best on the album. 'Seagull' closes the album on a soft note. The song is acoustic and ends the album on a really nice note.
Bad Company hit the nail right on the head with their debut album. This is one of biggest selling and all around best debut albums from a rock n' roll band ever. This is a must have for all fans of classic rock and Paul Rogers as this is his best effort.
4 1/2 stars........2007-04-09
can't get enough of paul rodgers voice. that fella sings about as fine as anyone in the history of rock and roll. on this, bad company's 1974 debut album, mr rodgers has an extremely fine set of songs to show off that spectacular set of pipes. "can't get enough," and "movin' on," are terrfic rock numbers, and the ballads, "don't let me down," and "seagull," are equally terrific (especially "seagull"). not a mediocre track on this album. just a lot of great stuff for us aging folks to get all nostalgic over.
Another excellent new "Superband" of the 70s... Cool!.......2006-10-28
Bad Company was one of those "recycled" superbands that emerged in the 70s. Under Led Zeppelin's Swan Song Record label, they issued this first album to show that PURE ROCK RULES!!! Paul Rodgers voice is superb. If you want your 70s party to last a little bit longer, get also BC next album, "Straight Shooter"!
Good Debut Album but get the Remastered version........2006-10-26
Back in the old days when albums just a little over 30 minutes long would still sell, Bad Company made an album that's become a classic rock staple and beloved by millions around the world. For those of us brought up on the much better sound technology of the 90s, trust me you should get the remastered version right away.
That aside, the songs here are good for the most part. "Ready For Love" is the strongest and most interesting track musically while I've read someone once who wrote that if you gave a room full of monkeys enough time, they'd compose "Can't Get Enough" but I guess that's the beauty of the track in that it's so damn simple but effective.
Overall, I just can't help but compare it with the other great rock bands around at that time and I can think of a quite a few with much stronger albums than this; "Not Fragile" by BTO comes quickly to mind and even Heart's "Little Queen" has got more interesting ideas but I guess timing is everything and the cool album cover helps...

Classic Bad Company.......2007-05-23
It's a time warp of rock 'n roll. Fun music, classic Bad Company. Ballad Fade Away is great, as is Run with the Pack (though not a ballad). It's not as good as the first Bad COmpany, but still deserves its 5 stars as a clasic rock album.
Bad Co Still Runnin'.......2007-03-10
This Bad Company album, though not with the top 40 hits of their self titled debut record and Straight Shooter, may be the band's most consistent effort. Fantastic rock vocals by Paul Rodgers, clever riffs by Ralphs and the super group stability of Burrell's bass and Simon Kirke's drums make songs like Youngblood and the classic Silver, Blue and Gold really sing. I remember bringing the vinyl home for the first time! Great stuff.
Still runnin'!.......2006-11-14
This album is just as good as I remembered it to be, seeing as how I haven't listened to it for probably 15 years. I rank this one almost as high as their first (Bad Company +5) and second (Straight Shooter ++5). Probably not as many outright hits as the first two but certainly a good effort. Brings back many good memories!
Better than most.......2006-03-01
For years I have meaning to pick this album up on CD (I had the original on vinyl), mainly because it contains 'Sweet Lil Sister' - a blistering and soulful performance by Paul Rogers. I was not disappointed. That song is the best mover on the album, and certainly better than most anything else he recorded with this band. There are some other great tunes and classics on the album, the only clinker being an unnecessary remake of 'Young Blood'. Besides 'Sister', there is also a little played tune called 'Simple Man', another moving performance by Rogers, but this one is downtempo and meditative in comparison. This collection is worth having, even moreso than their first album, in my opinion.
Incredible Album, Awesome Tunes, Poor Remaster............2005-06-11
Lots of other reviewers have told it like it is as far as the album goes... this is Bad Co. at their peak... simply awesome tunes... I can play this CD all day long, even after all these years since it first came out and it still flat out rocks... excellent tunes... excellent grooves... whether for a first taste of Bad Co. or an addition to ones collection, you simply can't do wrong picking this one up... the only bad thing to point out is that it's very hard to believe this has been remastered. If you have a very resolving high-end system, you'll notice a lack of dynamics, a lack of transparency, very little punch to the bass or drums, instruments are not in their own spaces, there's not much presence to Paul Rogers voice, etc. etc. this is nowhere near the quality that is available from todays mixing boards and digital mastering gear. It is hard to imagine this is an improvement over the original release on CD... so much so that I ordered a second copy of the remastered version as I was sure someone must have swapped the disk from the original version into a case with the liners from thr remastered version. The result was that I received an identical disk from a different seller with the same poor quality sound as I'd received from the first one. Highly recommended for the tunes, but if you already have this title, save your money and don't bother with upgrading to the remastered version... it's not worth it... for those who are into it, you can't beat the vinyl on this one...!

Straight Shooter.......2007-04-28
Bad Company-Straight Shooter ****
There is not much to say about Bad Company. Nothing really exciting happand to the band and they dont really have any good storys, they were just your average good old rock n' roll band. Straight Shooter was the bands second album. They were still on Swan Song at this point, Led Zeppelins record lebel. While this is not as good as the self titled debut Bad Company this is still a great album.
'Good Lovin Gone Bad' opens the album and it is along the same lines as 'Cant Get Enough from the debut musicaly, but lyricly it is the flip side, where this is about love going bad the other is about not getting enough love. A nice way to open the album and Mick Ralphs plays some killer guitar on this track. 'Feel Like Makin Love' is a radio classic. Still to this day is played on the radio regularly. It starts off nice and acousticly and then kicks in to the hard rocking chorus. Easily one of the bands best songs. 'Weep No More' is very dixie. A nice little ditty about still loving a girl after she did you wrong. 'Shooting Star' is a longer song clocking in at over six minutes, and still managed to become a massive radio hit. While this is concidered to be one of the bands best songs, it was never a big hit with me, I can only listen to it so many times. 'Deal With The Preacher' is easily the best song on the album. The lyrics are the best on the album and it is clearly Paul Rogers best vocals performance of the album and probably one of his best ever. 'Wild Fire Woman' is a nice little rocker with a funky back beat and loose bass line which adds a little flavor to the album. The song has a great chorus and some killer vocals from Rogers. 'Anna' is a nice little love song, very cliche to the time of its release in 1975. Not very special other then it has a whole lot of heart and soul in the performance, see because the lyrics are nice but they seem to desperate like a cry for what he is singing about rather then what he really has. 'Call On Me' is the final song on the album. It is heavy in Keyboards and synth. Not very special and actually somewhat tedious, the album would have been stronger without it. Not a very good closer, though the guitar playing is pretty good.
Straight Shooter is not the album the debut was but you can not compare the two, that was a legendary album and this wasnt, but it is still good if you dont compare the two. That would be like comparing The Rolling Stones albums Exile On Main Street which is the best album to its follow up Goats Head Soup, while Soup is an amazing album itself if falters in comparison to Exile. Straight Shooter is a solid album through and through, and one that all classic rock fans should enjoy.
straight shooter- badco at its best!.......2006-01-12
Badco's debut album was nothing short of excellent, and the second album (straight shooter) revealed not only the confirmation of the talent and energy they owned, but it also had a lot to say about each member's creativity and desire to express themselves musically. "Weep no more" and "Anna", both penned by drummer Simon Kirke, are to this day a piece of this singer's daily humming repitoire. If you are a singer and own this album you know what i'm talking about. "Good lovin' gone bad", penned by Mick Ralphs, was another mainstay of a continuing strand of rock anthems that Mick never seemed to run out of. Being the obvious success that drove this band, Paul Rodgers (aka "The Voice") not only proved himself worthy of top 3 best male singers ever, but he also proved himself worthy of top 3 best songwriters ever. "Feel like makin' love" and "Shooting Star", both penned by Rodgers, will forever come to mind for every rightminded musician who just found a good enough and willing singer to deliver these songs as close to Paul as possible. There simply isn't enough to say about Paul. I met him behind the Wiltern Theatre during Mark and Brian's X-Mas show in 99' and he was very polite and sincere. He also seemed a bit suprised to see a 17 year old in shock of his presence. Although our meeting was cut short due to his flight schedule, I will never forget it. While Boz had no writing credits on the album, he delivered a very unique stylistic set of riffs on both rockers as well as ballads on this album. Boz is one of the only bassists I have ever heard who intensifies the ballads twice as much as the guitar and drums do. He understood exactly where he needed to be every step of the way and his sound was very evident. From the moment I heard Badco when I was 15 I have never found a more raw and straight forward energized sounding band. Simplicity in their music is why they are so appealing. This album has met my approval almost every day for over 8 years and i'm sure you won't be disappointed.
A classic rock masterpiece.......2005-09-01
Bad company is amongst my favourite bands and straight shooter is one of their best after their debut albums.this contains classics like GOOD LOVIN GONE BAD,FEEL LIKE MAKIN LOVE and STRAIGHT SHOOTER.get both albums today.
These Guys Could Really Rock!!!.......2005-04-26
It is hard for me to belive that this album was recorded way back in 1974 as it's sound is a fresh and relevant today as it was back then. The album kicks off with the Rock Clasic "Good Loving Gone Bad" which I never get tired of listening to. Then we also have the semi ballad "Shooting Star" which was released as a successful single. Perhaps if more aspiring rock guitarists listened to this album it would point them in the right dircetion. This album is Classic Hard Rock at it's best!!!
THE FIRST BEST ALBUM BY THE NEXT LED ZEPPELIN.......2005-01-07
This is the next album that my other brother borrowed from one of his best friends. The few songs I heard from their first album were good, and then I heard this album next and it has become one of my favorite albums since then. The first song I heard GOOD LOVIN' GONE BAD with PAUL RODGERS' vocals, MICK RALPHS' guitar riffs, BOZ BURRELL'S bass guitar riffs, and SIMON KIRKE'S drumming was excellent, but the next song FEEL LIKE MAKIN' LOVE really got my attention because I remember hearing this song on the radio during the 1970s. Furthermore, it was the first time I heard this song in a long time. I love the acoustic guitar intro by PAUL, the bass guitar riffs by BOZ, the harmony vocals by MICK AND SIMON, and how the electric low-volume rhythm guitar and the over-driven volume lead guitar solo by MICK sounds like the electric guitars on WHEN ELECTRICITY CAME TO ARKANSAS from BLACK OAK ARKANSAS 1971 self-titled album, which my oldest brother used to have. Ever since then, I have considered this as the next STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN, as I have considered BAD COMPANY as the next LED ZEPPELIN. Furthermore, I love FEEL LIKE MAKIN' LOVE a whole lot better than STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN because it is played at the same pace with a outstanding blend of an acoustic ballad and electric guitar rock, just like SHOOTING STAR. WEEP NO MORE that features excellent sounding guitar solos, organ, and the orchestra and ANNA (my least favorite song) with the FENDER RHODES piano, organ, and harmony vocals are good piano ballads, but the other piano ballad CALL ON ME is really my favorite with MICK'S guitar solo and PAUL'S voice that sounds the best on this song. DEAL WITH A PREACHER and WILD FIRE WOMAN (similar to SHOOTING STAR) are excellent guitar rock tunes. Plus, the harmony vocals of MICK and SIMON also give their music a refreshing sound. I love to play a lot of their music on my FENDER strat guitar, especially FEEL LOVE MAKIN' LOVE. More importantly, I also love BAD COMPANY better than LED ZEPPELIN.

Awesome CD!.......2007-01-18
I got this CD for my husband for Christmas, he loved it and plays it all of the time. The package arrived promptly, a plus during Christmas time! Thanks Amazon, I look foward to doing business with you again.
Burnin' Sky.......2006-08-15
Bad Company was a favorite during my early 20's and I always wanted this (back then ) album. So now I purchased the CD with one of my favorite Bad Company songs' "Burnin' Sky".
ANOTHER EXCELLENT ALBUM BY THE NEXT LED ZEPPELIN.......2005-08-29
When I first this album in December 1985, I thought this was recorded after STRAIGHT SHOOTER and before RUN WITH THE PACK (This album had a more commercial sound to it.) because the music sounds like the first two albums. Anyway, the intro thundering and lighting is an outstanding sound effect for the title track that features excellent vocals, drum playing, bass guitar riffs, and the multi-layered guitar at the beginning and end. The raindrops from MORNING SUN that features excellent vocals, flute solo by ex-KING CRIMSON MEL COLLINS, and the 12-string guitar is also an outstanding effect that follows the repeated thunder at the end of the title track. LEAVING YOU is an great song with excellent guitar riffs, and LIKE WATER that features excellent vocals, organ, rhythm and slide guitar riffs is probably my favorite song on this album. KNAPSACK sounds like a song that was played in cave, but I do not like PAUL'S voice on the group written EVERYTHING I NEED; it sounds like the 1950s style of singing. Meanwhile, HEARTBEAT sounds like MICK RALPHS AND PAUL RODGERS playing harmony lead guitar. Plus, PEACE OF MIND that features excellent sounding lead guitar, harmony vocals, and organ and PASSING TIME are great piano ballads. TOO BAD (The album version and the anthology cd say that MICK RALPHS wrote this song, but the original and remastered cd versions say that PAUL RODGERS wrote this song) is an excellent guitar rock song, and I love the way PAUL AND MICK play guitar on MAN NEEDS WOMAN that also features excellent sax by MEL COLLINS. The closing group written song MASTERS OF CEREMONY features excellent reverse drum effects, distorted vocals, the sax, organ, bass guitar, and quiet lead guitar riffs.
Some unique tunes from the Company.......2005-07-30
I'm in the process of carefully building an appreciation for classic rock, so I'm still new to Bad Company. However, they've become my favorite group. So maybe my perspective will be useful to somebody. I found Burnin Sky to have quite a few inspired songs. They're catchy and different, but certainly not a departure from the original sounds and thoughtful lyrics that made the band famous before this album. The flow from the title track to 'Morning Sun' kicks of the album well, and the gritty guitar in 'Leaving You' is great. Paul Rodgers probably couldn't write a bad lyric if he wanted to. Then 'Everything I Need' mixes several styles but still holds out, which is impressive. 'Passing Time', again, has great lyrics and a good beat. 'Too Bad' is one of my favorites, I'm surprised it wasn't a hit. 'Man Needs Woman' has good rhythm too, and just as much power. Suffice it to say you'll like at least a few of the tracks here. Give Burnin Sky a good chance.
4.5 stars - A forgotten Bad Company gem.......2005-05-22
Burnin' Sky (1977.) Bad Company's fourth album.
Although the first release from Bad Company, their 1974 debut album, was a classic rock masterpiece and is appropriately hailed as such, subsequent releases from the band were not as well-received. This was a shame, since they were nothing less in the quality department. All of albums that the band released with the classic Rodgers, Ralphs, Burrell, and Kirke formation were excellent, They had attempted to broaden their horizons many a time, most notably at first on their 1976 release Run With The Pack. This worked well, in my opinion, since Pack is my favorite Bad Company album. How does the follow-up, 1977's Burnin' Sky measure up? Read on to find out.
To put in the simplest terms possible, this is the Bad Company album that time forgot. Although it is an excellent album, it never achieved the success that earlier releases from the band did - a shame since this really was some great music. There is only one hit on this album, and that's the title track. Fortunately though, the lone hit present on this album is one of the band's best songs ever recorded. It's straight-up classic hard rock that is readily accessable to fans of the band. The rest of the album, though, is what will make you love or hate it. Like the previous album, the band attempts to broaden its horizons. The results are solid, no questions asked, but are different enough from past releases from the band that casual fans may be turned off by the shift in sounds. There really aren't any weakenesses on this album, but I won't deny that it's an aquired taste, and not one one you'll get into overnight. If you listen to this album with an open mind, chances are it will end up impressing you. No, this isn't one of Bad Company's best albums, but it is a solid release from the band nonetheless. Any big-time fan should buy it.
THE TEXT IN THIS PARAGRAPH REFERS EXCLUSIVELY TO THE REMASTERED VERSION OF THE ALBUM RELEASED IN 1994. In 1994, the record company remastered and rereleased Bad Company's albums. The remastering on these songs sounds great, certainly better than the original 1990 CD issues. However, in a lot of ways, these reissues were a wasted opportunity. For example, there was an assortment of rare tracks from this era that would have made fine bonus tracks (many of these later surfaced on the band's hits compilation, The Original Bad Company Anthology.) Likewise, in some cases, the band could have fit multiple albums onto a single disc. For example, the band's self-titled debut and this album, Straight Shooter, will fit on a single disc. Doing things like these would have made this remasters series a better value to the consumers, but I guess record companies are more concerned with profits. Oh, well. That doesn't change the way I feel about the album itself.
Should you buy Burnin' Sky? If you're a Bad Company fan, by all means add this one to your collection. If you're just getting into the band, or you just consider yourself a casual fan, stick with their first two albums or a hits compilation (preferably the Anthology and not the subpar 10 from 6, which overlooks the Burnin' Sky album completely.) Burnin' Sky IS a good album, but it's no place to start if you're new to the band - that's what the debut is for.

Bad Company Find Their Own Sound.......2007-05-12
the previous Bad Company release 'fame and fortune' found the band confused and trying out a completely new style...it sounded great but the hard core fans responded by not buying it (which was unfair in my opinion)
but on 'Holy Water' the band found their own style
which they stuck to for this release and the following 3 releases as well
it is more modern sounding then the releases with Paul Rogers singing
and I think there are more 'hits' on these releases
Holy Water starts out very strong with the title cut which rocks hard
from there is another big hit 'Walk Through Fire' which is pure radio bliss...'Stranger Stranger' sounds a bit like old Bad Company with an updated sound...'If You Needed Somebody' is a beautiful ballad (which would also have worked for Def Leppard)
but my favorite track on the album is 'Fearless' which has a great beat and lyrics about a girl who is fearless and loves having fun...'Boys Cry Tough' is a beautiful song with story telling lyrics that really work,it's very emotional...the whole album is very solid and the format works
one listen to this album and you'll see why Bad Company was all over the radio when this album was released
the upside - pure radio bliss...awesome songs from start to finish...the best are 'Fearless' 'Boys Cry Tough' and 'Walk Through Fire'
the downside - really can't think of any
the bottom line - this was the start of the new era of Bad Company,a formula of great catchy songs done in a dark bluesy style,it worked great! Donutman says so!!!
the best of the Howe-era Bad Company albums.......2007-04-28
I think we can all agree that the old Bad Company albums with Paul Rodgers on vocals are rightly viewed as classics. I also think that if you take an honest look back at those albums, you'll see that those last few albums were not on the same level as Bad Company or Straight Shooter. The band needed a shot in the arm and got just that when they hired former Ted Nugent vocalist Brian Howe. Howe was the perfect choice for the arena rock decade, and his tenure in Bad Company is still criminally underrated.
I know this kind of AOR/arena rock is almost universally ridiculed now, but plenty of us who grew up in that era can still appreciate an album full of big guitar hooks, rock anthems, bic-flicking ballads, and an unapologetic use of keyboards. Bands like Damn Yankees, Bad English, Foreigner, and of course Bad Company embraced this sound, and rode an unexpected second wave of popularity as a result.
Bad Company's 1990 album Holy Water is (pardon the pun) the high water mark for the Howe-era lineup. This album starts with the powerful title track and then hits you with the song "Walk Through Fire", which is one of the era's absolute best rock songs (Lou Gramm's "Midnight Blue" is the other). It doesn't let up there, instead charging through rockers like "Stranger Stranger" and "Fearless" as well as the hit ballad "If You Needed Somebody". Someone already noted that the album loses a little steam in the second half, but even the average song on Holy Water is still better than many of their contemporaries' best efforts.
This is about as strong an AOR album as you could ever hope to find. The first half easily deserves a 5-star rating, and the second half is worthy of at least 4 stars. Holy Water may remain shunned by old school Bad Company fans, but it's one of the era's best rock albums, and one that all 80's/early 90's rock fans will definitely want to check out.
Bad Company- Holy Water CD.......2007-03-10
The holy water cd is my favorite newer Bad Company albums. But nothing beats the old songs.
Decent stuff, nothing fantastic.......2006-10-25
The late '80s/early '90s Bad Company fronted by Brian Howe is nothing compared to the old Paul Rodgers-fronted Bad Co. Nevertheless this is a pretty listenable album with a handful of good tunes.
"Holy Water" is a great early '90s arena rocker and the best tune on the album. It's got a cool guitar riff and a great singalong chorus. "If You Needed Somebody" is the big hit power ballad and another good tune.
There are a couple other good tunes like "Walk Through Fire" and "I Can't Live Without You" but that's about it. The songwriting is quite up to snuff and the production by Terry Thomas makes most of the songs sound similar. Drummer Simon Kirke contributes the acoustic "100 Miles" as a closer which is welcome because the spare production contrasts with the overproduction of the record.
Before I close, I must say that guitarist Mick Ralphs has a really awesome guitar tone on this record. Unfortunately he is often overwhelmed by the synths and drums.
HOLY WATER is definitely worth a listen if only for the title track. Not one I'd pick up new, but buying it used for a pretty cheap price is not a bad investment at all.
Holy Water Theme.......2005-10-10
I really love the song Holy Water, with its big-power-song rhythms and lyrics. Bad Company provides an entire album wrapped around that feeling.
If you've heard Holy Water and don't like it, then let's be honest, you probably won't like this CD. That's what the whole CD is about - blasting guitars, loud vocals about overcoming obstacles and getting to your goals. If you buy a new age CD about oceans, you get lots of soothing songs about the ocean. If you get Holy Water, you get lots of charge-you-up, you-can-do-it songs about relationships. That sounds fine by me!
Walk through Fire is of course about facing obstacles to get to someone. Stranger Stranger is about a hot, humid daydream. The other songs have their own variations, but mostly this is a long power-opus to the power of the individual who Knows What He Wants and is Willing to Go Get it.
There are plenty of other CDs out there for those seeking complex guitar solos and multiplex harmonies. Sometimes you just want a belting-it-out song that screams of leather jackets and smokey bars. This is the one!

Bad Company Rocks.......2005-07-28
This is one of the best albums with the original line up. Exceptionally tight. 1979 was a good year for good rock 'n' roll and a good year for Bad Company
The last seventies release from Bad Company..........2005-06-23
Desolation Angels (1979.) Bad Company's fifth album.
Bad Company rose to fame in the mid-late seventies, being one of very few supergroups in rock and roll history that managed to survive for a rather long time. With former members of Mott The Hoople, King Crimson, and Free united, the group beautifully demonstrated that they were all musical geniuses, many times over. Unfortunately, the band's later releases lacked the success of the early ones, which scored the band a plethora of hit singles. Their fifth album, Desolation Angels, was the last one the group released, and the second-to-last one the band would release before disbanding. Read on for my review of the 1979 album, and find out just how it measures up.
This is one of the best albums the classic Bad Company line-up released, so it's a shame it never got the same kind of fame their earlier seventies releases got. The band tried implementing strings and synthesizers in a few places on this album, but not so much to the point that it totally defiled the music. The end result is a five-star masterpiece, and arguably the finest rock and roll album of 1979. Kicking things off is my all-time favorite Bad Company song, Rock 'N' Roll Fantasy. This song has everything necessary for a song to be a classic rock hit, and it's one song that really DESERVED to be a hit. Unfortunately for the band, it was the only big hit to come from the album. On the good side though, its sheer quality spoke for the rest of the album. Continuing on, we get to the minor hit, Crazy Circles. This is a mostly acoustic and folksy tune which beautifully illustrates the band's musical diversity. It also helps to prove that Paul Rodgers is one of the greatest rock and roll vocalists of all time. My favorite song on the album (besides Rock 'N' Roll Fantasy of course) is Gone, Gone Gone. The song sounds IDENTICAL to classic seventies-era Robin Trower, and that's a very good thing. I have always thought Paul Rodgers had a voice similar to Robin Trower's vocalist James Dewar, and when you listen to this song and then listen to any Robin Trower hit from this era, you'll see exactly what I mean. Every time I listen to the album, this is one I've gotta hear at least once. And then we get to Evil Wind. This is a mid-paced, classic hard blues rocker. Mick Ralphs does his guitar playing here excellently - you've gotta love those distorted riffs! The slow and melodic rocker Early In The Morning comes next. It's one of my favorite songs on the album, combining the band's classic rock sound with a slower, more melodic one than you're probably used to. Classic rock ballads never sounded better. The album's next track, Lonely For Your Love, is by far the most bluesy-sounding thing the release has to offer. Once again, the band's musical diversity is illustrated beautifully. It's immediately followed by another bluesy number, the harmonica-heavy Oh, Atlanta. Not surprisingly, it's another excellent rocker, even if it is different from what you're used to hearing from the band. Take The Time is another one of the acoustic, folksy numbers on the album - it's amazing just how good the band was at creating ballads. This particular one uses a musical styling very similar to the one previously used by Loggins And Messina. We get right back into the rocker tunes with Rhythm Machine, a straight-up rock number that will grab your attention and take a tight hold of it. Closing out the album is She Brings Me Love, another slower-paced tune, which shows off the band's newfound obsession with synthesizers. Combining a slow, melodic rock tune with a backing synthesizer pattern, the band makes one hell of a song. They couldn't have closed things out on a higher note. And that's it for Desolation Angels. It's a shame this album is so underrated, because it really is one of the group's finest accomplishments.
Sadly, with the exception of hits compilations and the self-titled debut, Bad Company's albums are no longer readily available in stores. This is a shame, because as this album demonstrates, there is more to Bad Company than just the hit singles. Hopefully the albums will get reissued, and maybe have some expanded liner notes and bonus tracks added, but until then, you're going to have to hunt hard if you want the albums.
Desolation Angels was Bad Company's final release of the seventies, and they couldn't have ended the decade on a higher note. It's just a shame that by this time period, most people had forgotten about the band, and moved on to listen to the new up-and-coming musical sensations of the day. If you're a fan of Bad Company, this is a highly recommended album that must be added to your collection.
PROBABLY THE LAST BEST ALBUM BY BAD COMPANY.......2005-01-09
Here is where MICK RAPLHS and PAUL RODGERS' new guitar sounds definitely shine on this album, but the synthesizer is probably, if not definitely, unnecessary. A mellotron would have sounded a whole lot better. Meanwhile, PAUL'S ROCK 'N' ROLL FANTASY that says is all is definitely an outstanding opener for the album. PAUL's flangering (an excellent sound effect) guitar intro really gets his ROCK 'N' ROLL FANTASY off the ground, along with SIMON KIRKE'S drum playing, BOZ BURRELL'S bass guitar riffs, the organ, and the harmony vocals by the band. The next song CRAZY CIRCLES that features no electric guitars, except for the bass guitar, is an excellent acoustic ballad. BOZ'S GONE, GONE, GONE that features excellent rhythm and slide guitar and excellent harmony vocals is a great guitar rock song. EVIL WIND, on the other hand, is a excellent rock tune with the guitar riffs, and the tone of MICK'S lead guitar solo really shines on EARLY IN THE MORNING. LONELY FOR YOUR LOVE, despite PAUL'S voice on this song, is a good rhythm and blues song by MICK, but I like his next two songs better. I love how PAUL plays the harmonica and the piano on OH ATLANTA where MICK plays excellent rhythm guitar on a FENDER STRAT and lead guitar on a GIBSON LES PAUL STANDARD through a MARSHALL amplifier. MICK'S acoustical ballad TAKE THE TIME with his slide guitar and the band's harmony vocals is excellent too. The next two songs with MICK and PAUL on guitar are excellent too. MICK plays excellent slide guitar on RHYTHM MACHINE, but I am now wondering if PAUL plays the lead guitar solo on this song too. I think SHE BRINGS ME LOVE would have sound a whole lot better if the rest of the band itself would have sung the harmony vocals instead of the female singers, but it strongly reminds me of their earlier song DON'T LET MY DOWN from their 1974 debut album.
Uptight Critics Weren't Alone in Longing for New Directions.......2004-06-17
"Desolation Angels" will probably never be mentioned in the list of rock albums in history that bridged the gap between strong hard rock and Southern flavors, and that's a real shame since this record is one of Bad Company's finest releases.
It's not just because the set was propelled by the greatest, most addictive hit the group ever had, 'Rock and Roll Fantasy,' but because it showcases a hard rocking band in a straight, competent state of mind, obviously dying to move their trademark sound into different territories. Which explains the trips into the old West and rural country hills, imagery that appears on great tracks like 'Evil Wind' and, more evidently, 'Oh Atlanta.' Acoustic guitars have an important role, like in the melodic 'Crazy Circles,' but electricity is never forgotten, such as the worthwhile 'Gone Gone Gone.'
Intriguingly titled, "Desolation Angels" is proof that the critics of the 70s were not the only ones who longed for a change in the FM hard rock format, and Bad Company would try their best to stay on this road on their next album, the unjustly ignored "Rough Diamonds" a long three years later.

Customer Reviews:
the perfect companion for 'Holy Water'.......2007-05-12
When 'Holy Water' went huge with radio airplay they decided to stick to a winning formula and it worked big time
the same dark bluesy performance of catchy hit songs continues here
'One Night' 'No Smoke Without A Fire' 'The Way It Goes' and my favorite 'Shake It Up' makes this a winning album
the upside - from start to finish this is one hit song after another, the songwriting is fantastic,my favorite tracks are 'Shake It Up' and 'The Way It Goes' and 'No Smoke Without A Fire'
the downside - the only small complaint is that it sounds almost identical to 'Holy Water' but it's not really a bad thing,it just shows they found their style and wanted to stick with it
the bottom line - if you love great rock and roll with catchy hooks and great lyrics, this is the album for you...donutman says so!!!
Great Guitar Album.......2007-01-29
This album illustrates the true talent of Mick Ralphs, which has taken a back seat to Paul Rodgers in the past.
Enjoy it for what it is..great hard rock music .......2006-10-13
No, this is not like the soulful hard rock sounds of the Paul Rodgers fronted Bad Company. No, this is not the 1970's either.
An overhaul was needed after the album "Fame and Fortune" failed to really ignite. Despite what some might say, this incarnation and the music it produced was solid, melodic, and enjoyable.
Guitarist Mick Ralph's and drummer Simon Kirke updated the sound and swagger and it suited the late 80's and 90's to a T.
Stand out tracks: One Night, Shake it up, No smoke without a fire, Bad Man, and Dirty Boy.
Slick and overproduced, but a joy to listen to at High DB's.
Above average.......2006-02-23
"No Smoke without a fire" is the best track. "One night" and "Bad Man" are good.
Excellent era!!.......2005-09-16
the brian howe era is the best from bad company...very melodic music and this cd is not the exception...very very good, like Holy Water or Here Comes Trouble...excellent

No Paul Rodgers But Still Awesome.......2006-10-20
Bad Company was awesome in the 70s and even after Paul Rodgers and others left, they still managed to make another great one. This album is way better than one might think. It's nothing like the old Bad Company but it is just as good in it's own way. If you like BC give this a chance and you will be pleased.
It keeps popin up.......2004-07-12
I have over 800 CD's I have switched my Cassetts and vinyl over to CD's. I can put this CD away for a few months and then pull it down and thoughly enjoy it. This CD, no matter where I go, will make it into my CD Case (now MP3 Player!). It's worth it. After you have listened to it a few times then you will want to by more BC CD's. Go with Holy Waters next. I think both of those CD's are the best that BC has done since the old days.
Better than you think........2004-04-17
This album was originally panned by reviewers who wanted the Bad Company of the 1970's and early 1980's featuring vocalist Paul Rodgers. They also complained that this album featured session players who were not part of the original band but still two of these guys were with Foreigner at the time and producer Terry Thomas has done albums with Tesla, Richard Marks, Brian Howe's solo effort, Giant, Foreigner, as well as his own solo albums not released in the US.
This album does however have guitarist Mick Ralphs and drummer Simon Kirke who really rock out this cd. Two previous albums, Dangerous Age and Holy Water rose up the charts during 1987 to
1991 when BC toured with Damn Yankees all over the world for more than 2 years. This cd did not do so well when it first came out because the industry was leaning towards Rap and Hip Hop. The title song ended up on the soundtrack of Surf Nazis which was not widely excepted either. Not that is was such a bad movie just a little silly.
Today Paul Rodgers tours with guitarist Howard Leese of Heart, who produced Soundgarten, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and others from the
Seattle and Vancover area with other Seattle area musicians filling in
his band. Every now and then the original group gets together and tours select cities around the globe. Since Rodgers return in 1997 he has taken control of the band and it's name.
The Brian Howe led Bad Company did release 4 albums including Fame & Fortune released in 1986 and produced by Mick Jones of Foreigner with Thomas lending a helping hand. Howe now is touring as Brian Howe & Bad Company featuring the session players Dave "Bukkets' Colwell and Rick Wills of the newer edition Foreigner. This texture should not be confused with the late'80's and early '90's texture featuring Ralphs and Kirke.
Still this album has some great cuts featuring Ralphs' guitar and songwriting which led the original Bad Company to fame after Ralphs and bassist Boz Burrell left Mott The Hoople to join Kirke and Rodgers after Free guitarist Paul Kossoff died in 1974. Ralphs also toured with Pink Floyd during the Momentary Lapse Of Reason Tour in the late 1980's and early 1990's.
For those of us who enjoyed the Guitar Rock of the 1970's this album is the kind of album we listen to. The band is really good in this form regardless of the bad reveiws it received when the album first came out. It has plenty of great guitar licks and lyrics that sound much different from the original bands sound. A more modern approach by Ralphs and Kirke featuring Howe's vocals which are actually quite good. So for those of us who enjoyed the original group this album should be part of your collection.
YOU MUST GET THIS CD.......2003-09-01
I don't give a %$#@*! about what other reviewers have said about this album and Brian Howe over Paul Rodgers. This CD, in my opinion, is the BEST of Bad Company. In fact, I would go so far as to say that I prefer Brian Howe OVER Paul Rodgers and I own every single Bad Company CD ever made. This CD is similiar to "Holy Water", but better. It really rocks, plus there are some great ballads. The best song is "Stranger than Fiction". One last thing I would like to say is that you can tell it is a good album and a good band when you can listen to a song that was written in 1992, and it still sounds really good today. These songs do not sound dated at all. If you enjoyed the sound of the early 90's, then you need to get this one.
