Album Details
Digitally Remastered Double Anthology of the Pop and Soundtrack Composer from the 50's and 60's. Perhaps his Best Counterpart of Today Would Be John Williams. A Film Maker Could Always Rely on Mancini to Deliver a Composition that Hit the Mark for a Film and Conveyed Exactly What was Required and More. He also Filled the Role of an American Mantovani, Recording 'muzak' Versions of Popular Hits. He was Handsome, Personable, but Most of All, Well Respected for his Craft.
Customer Reviews:
not enough Galway.......2003-10-02
There are only four songs with James Galway. The way this recording is presented is misleading and buyers should be aware that this is NOT a joint effort between these two great artists.. I was totally disappointed. I think Henry Mancini is wonderful but was expecting to hear a collaboration. So if you're looking for flute music this isn't it. However it's a great collecton of Henry Mancini's work.
Too Good to Last.......2000-03-03
I heard this on PBS. Galway and Mancini may be two of the most talented musicians of our century. Galway for his complete mastery of the flute and Mancini for his ability to arrange , produce and in this instance direct the orchestra while Galway performs. They do several duets of a comical nature as well. This is important because it is one of Mancini's last efforts prior to his unfortunate passing.

Product Description
KMD (Kausing Much Damage, or a positive Kause in a Much Damaged society) was a Hip Hop group in the early 90s perhaps best known for launching the career of acclaimed MC/Producer MF Doom (known during his KMD tenure as Zev Love X). After guesting on 3rd Bass The Gas Face, the trio (Zev, brother Subroc, and Onyx) released the acclaimed and overlooked Mr. Hood full-length. Their political outlook was similar to the group Brand Nubian, who guested on Hood; however, the style was more comical and included a great deal of clips from old childrens recordings, mostly notably a sample of the Seaseme Street character Bert on the single Who Me? This is the official Elektra Records/Traffic Entertainment Group re-release with original artwork and track listing in its entirety. Cutting edge, ahead of its time production and skits from KMD and Stimulated Dummies (John Gamble and Mr. Dante Ross). Features the singles Peachfuzz, Who Me? and Nitty Gritty (feat. Brand Nubian). This is one Rap album that is not to be missed.

MF Doom Back In 1991 (4.5 Stars).......2006-11-07
For many new MF Doom fans, it's real hard to believe that he rhymed under the name Zev Love X, in a group called K.M.D. that also consisted of his brother DJ Subroc, and Onyx The Birthstone Kid (aka Rodan). In 1991, they dropped their first album Mr. Hood, with the single "Peachfuzz" which became a well known hit. The album itself is mostly based on a fictional character named Mr. Hood, who's voice is pasted together by instructional tapes (or so I heard). Some of the skits that feature Mr. Hood are quite entertaining, such as "Mr. Hood Meets Onyx", and "Mr. Hood Gets A Haircut".
Production wise is unique and creative. The sampling is also what makes this album great. Most of the samples are from televison shows such as Seseme Street for songs like "Humrush" and "Who Me?". The latter song would have a music video as a paroody of Seaseme Street. Lyrically, this trio had a lot. Zev Love X would take control of most of the vocals, and show off in songs like "Peachfuzz" and "Figure Of Speech". He would also imitate a preacher inside of a church in the track "Preacher Porkchop", and somehow Mr. Hood attends. The other two members would show off their skills on a few solo cuts also. Subroc would do his thing in "Subroc's Mission", and Onyx would handle the track "Boogie Man". There are not many guest appearances on this album. Only the group Brand Nubian would join for the song "Nitty Gritty" which works out well.
Overall, a great album by this trio, that became a big hit back in '91. This is one album that you will enjoy again, if you like creativity. I recommend this if you want to hear MF Doom back in his younger years, or if you enjoyed early 90's rap. Unfortunately Electra Records let this one go out of print, and didn't think to ever reissue it, up until a couple of months ago with the help of Traffic Ent (thank you very much for doing that!!). So at this price, I recommend that you snatch this one up as soon as possible. Unfortunately this group would face major setbacks when it came to their next album "Bl_ck B_st_rds"... (hey that might get reissued also [crosses fingers]).

Paul O'Dette has done more to introduce the lute and its extensive repertoire to modern ears than just about anyone. On Robin Hood, he plays a collection of Elizabethan ballads that were arranged for solo lute in the 16th century. Although the names of the composers of most of these pieces have been lost to us, the music is of a uniformly high quality and stands up very well next to the selections by known composers like William Byrd and Peter Phillips. O'Dette plays the selections on three instruments: the lute, the orpharion (a flat-back, metal-strung cousin to the lute), and the cittern, (a metal-strung instrument that is plucked with a quill rather than the fingers). The metal strings of the orpharion and cittern have a longer sustain than the gut strings of the lute, which gives the pieces played on them a sound similar to that of the modern steel-string guitar. O'Dette is renowned for his scholarship, which he demonstrates in the meticulously annotated liner notes, and for his formidable technique. But as powerful as his head and his hands are, O'Dette never forgets that it's the heart that makes these delightful works music rather than just a series of well-played notes. --Michael Simmons
Customer Reviews:
Elizabethan Ballads set for the lute.......2005-08-13
Paul O'Dette is unquestionably the finest performer on the renaissance lute who is recording these days. This CD is a compilation of 24 assorted ballad settings, from a wide variety of sources.
I like this CD somewhat better than its companion disc "The Royal Lewters", primarily because the highlights of the CD are tracks 13 through 17 featuring music of William Byrd. Along with John Dowland, Byrd represents the top of the food chain for Elizabethan composers, so this CD has some real compositional meat to it. The title track, "Robin Hood", is offered in a setting by one "Mr. Ascue", and it is quite a nice version.
O'Dette also performs 4 tracks on the orpharion, and 4 other tracks on the 4-course cittern. The timbre of these instruments takes some getting used to, but it serves for a nice contrast to the more mellifluous tone of his lute.
I believe that this CD and "The Royal Lewters" are available as a 2-CD set called "Lusty Gallant"; I would recommend the double-disc for a purchase rather than the two individual CDs.

classic from a classic group.......2005-04-02
This was the start of the excellent group KMD. They had nice beats and heavy flows that were above many other rappers in 91. This was far ahead of a lot of others too. Their style is fun and witty and nice to chill and listen to at any time of the day. If you haven't got this I would say get it quick even though its likely you will find a second hand one and will have to pay a bit for it. Its definately worth it because you can't miss out on classic albums like this and not know who they were. I would also recommend getting Black b_s#a@ds too because that is like having a collection of diamonds in your room, in a way of representing hip hop of the era when it was more true and fun than it will ever be now. KMD is a TRUE HIP HOP group and both their albums are perfect and what you need if you don't know about real hip hop. Just check what these mans are saying in here, and theres many more that know what the deal is. GET IT! Peace!
I'm likin it........2005-03-28
Simple, pick it up while you still can. A must grab for rare CD collectors. Awesome lyrics, smooth production. By the time you get this, get Black Bastards if you got the chance... both of are hard to find albums.
Mr. Hood.......2005-02-03
Classic material...too bad its out of print, but you can get it for free at emusic.com (as other reviewers have said), and yes it really does work, and it's legal, you just have to enter your credit card #. Anyway, KMD was an early 90s group made up of Zevlove X (aka MF Doom aka Viktor Vaughn), Onyx The Birthstone Kid & DJ Subroc. Also check out 'Black Bastards', which is also on emusic, or just buy 'Best Of KMD' which pretty much has the best songs on 'Mr. Hood' & 'Black Bastards' and 2 unreleased tracks ("Nitty Gritty" Remix with Brand Nubian and Busta Rhymes & "Popcorn".
1.Mr. Hood At Piocalles Jewelry/Crackpot-5/5-Introduces Mr. Hood, who's a character made up of parts of a language-instruction tapes, who ends up making the album pretty funny. Zevlove's "Crackpot" verse is great too.
2.Who Me?-5/5-Great song, this was back when Doom had an incredible flow (still is a very good lyricist tho)
3.Boogie Man!-5/5-Great Onyx solo song, too bad he didn't at least become a weird masked rapper...
4.Mr. Hood Meets Onyx-Funny skit ("excuse me, your shirt is dirty", "what size are your slippers? they are too small")
5.Subrocs Mission-5/5-Yea, Subroc can rap too
6.Humrush-5/5-All 3 drop nice verses, over a very well done beat...and Sesame Street samples
7.Figure Of Speech-5/5-Great Zevlove X solo song, one of his best tracks lyrically
8.Bananapeel Blues-3/5-"A lot of brothers don't like this joint
Cause it might not be funk or funky"-Yea, and maybe also because its talking instead of rapping, so its kinda boring
9.Nitty Gritty Featuring Brand Nubian-5/5-Probably the best song on the CD, featuring a verse from every member of KMD and Brand Nubian, and the best production on the CD
10.Trial And Error-5/5-If 'Nitty Gritty' isnt the best song on the CD...then this definately is, more great production
11.Hard Wit No Hoe-5/5-Kind of weird storytelling from Zevlove X, but more hot production and Zev is still shining as the group's best MC
12.Mr. Hood Gets A Haircut-Another funny Mr. Hood skit
13.808 Man-5/5-More nice production and storytelling, basically every track on this CD is classic material
14.Boy Who Cried Wolf-5/5-Zevlove X is at the top of his game on this track
15.Peachfuzz-5/5-The only single on the CD, and also one of the best tracks. Some of the best production on the CD, and Onyx drops what is probably his best verse on the CD
16.Preacher Porkchop-Not really a song, more like a skit
17.Soulflexin'-5/5-The flow on this track is nice over a great loop
18.Gasface Refill (Bonus Track)-5/5-Great sequel to 3rd Bass' 'Gasface' which feaured Zevlove X, not as good as the original in my opinion (which was a classic song) but still a hot song
Highly reccomended, find a way to get this album, you won't be dissapointed.
Great Album, but if you're here, you know that already!!!.......2004-12-28
This is a great album... The only reason I'm writing a review for it is because you can download the entire album legally and potentially free (along with other rare Doom and KMD albums (Operation Doomsday and Black Bastards) at www.emusic.com... You get 50 free downloads to start with, so at least one of these you can get for nothing as opposed to paying the ungodly prices they charge for these out of print CD's used...
If you want to know more about the album... Check some of the other reviews out... there's quite a few good ones that are very informative and as I said, if you're here, you probably already know this is a great album, because most people don't look for KMD unless they're interested in getting KMD...

Customer Reviews:
Sky is the limit for this highly recommendation!!!.......2007-05-23
I heard of this cat when MF Doom dropped his first album. Rodan is so complex with his lyrics and flow. I copped this album when it first came out in 2004. Definetly a classic. X-Ray has hooked up theses beats superbly. The beats are massively ill. You can't really get realer than this. The intro starts out with an excert from the movie with Elias Koteas speaking then Rodan comes in spitting light speed saying that he's the angel of death and you are at the end. No snakes alive part 2 is phat. Erotic Peaks is funny at the same time serious poeticly. The wilderness I think is one of the tightest songs on this album. The whole album is really tight. Every song. Don't listen to that geek "sailorkid 76" at the very first review. Read my lips............GET THIS ALBUM!!!

If you're here looking for Rodan
<--------1
the monsta island czar
then you already know Rodan
<--------2
is one of the most gifted lyrisist in the rap game
some idiot wrote below that Rodan sounded like a bad RBL or something.....???!!
yeah right....
and this kid said rodan was biting some rock bands name....?????
I'd like to fight this person now
If you listen to some stupid "indie" rock or whatever then don't even bother with Rodan
he wouldn't make sence to you
for those of you that appreciate quality hip hop
let me excuse this reviewer of which I speak
for saying things that hold no real insight
"a faker with no respect for the underground"
is a good description of the person who said this of RODAN.
RODAN
is a REAL

BY THE TIME IT'S OVER NO SNAKES ALIVE
the best that monsta island has to offer..........2006-02-18
well almost...this is a classic release without a doubt...insightful lyrics and dope beats, what you would expect from a monsta island czar...5 stars without a doubt, however, megalon's a penny for your thought is slightly better in my opinion, which should say something...peace.
Ignorant.......2005-10-13
This is a pretty good album but don't listen to Sailorkid 76. If he'd bothered to check out any of the background info about Rodan and Monsta Island Czars he'd know that they take their names from the monsters in the Toho Godzilla movies (King Geedorah, Megalon, Jet Jaguar, King Caesar, et al) and they use samples from a lot of those movies. I don't think a hip hop crew from Long Island is going to know about a band with one album and 7" from Louisville before they go choosing their names and it's not a terribly original name anyways.
Straight Fire.......2005-09-18
YUR, No need to get into the details, but if your down with doom or Grimm then you should check out thier crew the Monster Island Czars, they are dope . Rodan(of M.I.C.) follows through with a HOT ALBUM,HOT LYRICS and some pretty DOPE BEATS.
