3 out of 5 stars The Grand Champ Doesn't Show Here (Rating: 6 out of 10- -3.0 stars).......2007-05-11

I don't know what was going through DMX's mind when he made this album. I remember that at the time of this album, he began beefing with Ja Rule. "Grand Champ" really falls short of many expectations, especially when it is compared to such albums like Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of My Blood & It's Dark and Hell Is Hot, his most consistant albums.

Some of the tracks here, he shows that he has some energy left. "Get It On The Floor" was a radio hit, and the album's biggest hit that I was feeling. The album's first single "Where The Hood At" was solid track that created a buzz. Some of the best tracks that are on the album are the dedication track "Ayo Kato" and "Shot Down" featuring 50 Cent and Styles P. "Dogs Out" is a good track, because he put some energy into the track. And call me crazy, but I'm feeling the somewhat-love song "Don't Gotta Go Home". "Dog Intro" is also an excellent track, that could have set the tone of this album, but fails to maintain it. Even the traditional spiritual track "Thank You" is good, followed by "The Prayer V".

What kills the album is lasiness. On this album, X is at a low point at various places. "F Y'all" has the wost hook ever "F**** y'all n*****, (Man f*** you too)." How inspiring. "Rob All Night (If I'm Gonna Rob)" is another filler song. The entire hook is rehashed from the song "No Love 4 Me" from another album he made back in '98. On "Untouchable", ever single verse contributed is wack. There are more tracks that are a waste of time to listen to, but I'm pretty sure if you hear this album, you will figure it out.

"Grand Champ" is an overall solid album. It's not a complete write off, but don't expect for it to be a homerun either. It would be hard to distinguish if it is the best or if it is the worst of '03. I personally find that DMX is more capable of much better work, but fails to show it on this album. I can only recommend this to DMX/Ruff Ryder fans, and if possible find it at a cheap price, or buy it used. Peace.

4 out of 5 stars Why is this cd soo bad??? It's actually good!.......2006-11-08

I'm serious, it may not be better than his first three CD but it's still a good CD and this was the first CD i bought from DMX. When I bought this CD I loved every track and ill give u reason why you should buy this CD and i'm a hardcore X fan too.

1.Intro - This is perhaps my favorite intro of all X's intro (even his first 1 was nice and dark but i like this 1 more) 5/5
2.My life - I thought this was a lil anooying song but it's actually powerful and i can feel X so powerful on this track.4/5
3.Where the hood at? - CLASSIC!!!!!!!!!! if you hate it, you have no idea how hot this song is. Everytime X plays it, im pretty sure everyone goes crazy and yell. 5+/5
4.Dog's out - This track was pretty hot but i really like all that barking on this track. Plus, kayne did a nice job on the production.4/5
5.Get it on the floor - Same thing as where the hood at? Hot song, great production from swizzy.5/5
6. (SKIT)
7.Shot down - yeah the beat does suck on this song but it just sounds dark with the background. 50, x, styles does good on it too.3.5/5
8.Bring the noize - I like this song especially the trumpet and X brings that heat.4/5
9.Untouchables - this was the song that i really loved to listen to. All the ruff ryders memember spittin and the beat is slow paced and the hook is good to relax.5/5
10.F*** Y'all - GREAT SONG FOR ANGER!! X brings out his angry form and start to swear the F word like crazy lol 5/5
11.(SKIT)
12.We're back - Great song and X does good. Also jada and eve are guest and they did good.4/5
13.(SKIT)
14.Rob all night - YES one of my fav songs from X and i love the hook ( its from no love for me but sounds better on this 1). X pretty much talks random stuff on this 1 but its a catchy song and the beat sucks which was a lil bad. 4/5
15.We go hard - Cam ron for guest and X ripped it at the 3rd verse. Cam did alright he was flowing great and the beat is decent. The song is mostly about talking that they are going hard ( and don't care what peep does/say).4/5
16.We bout to blow - ANOTHER HOT SONG!!!!!! X and BS ripped it! 4/5. Also great party song
17.The rain - one of my fav DMX songs and x starts slowing down on this 1.4/5
18.(SKIT)
19.Don't gotta go home - I love this song a mixture with rap artist and R&B. This song is a very smoothy feeling and it's good to relax too.4/5
20.Ayo Kato - A tribute to his friend Kato which i think is nice to do and the chorus is great.5/5
21.Thank you - Another song with X and the lord, I think this one is his worse. But with patti labell the song was decent and it's a lil catchy.4/5
22.Prayer( his worse 1..)
23.On top - Pretty good way to end the track with the BS and X. Mostly X was doing decent but BS was on fire.4/5

In conclusion, GET THIS CD!!! It's not a horrible CD, although it doesnt match to its dark and hell is hot, flesh of my fesh, and then there was X but still Songs like Where the hood at, get it on the floor, ayo kato, don't gotta go home, my life etc are great tracks on this CD and you need to have them! The CD has alot of different type of X in here too liek you'll see him going hard, taking it slow, then talk about his life, dialogue with the lord and him going crazy for party songs.

4 out of 5 stars worst by him but that dosen't mean it's bad.......2006-08-11

terrible album compared to his previous ones, but it has it's times. most songs seem like a really long hook (Expl. My Life, Dogs Out, The Rain Etc.)

although dmx is probably my favorite rapper right now its his older songs that i like not this new horse****. i bought it cause i liked the 2 singles and i wanted to build my collection but there are only maybe 5 good songs and that might be a stretch. he was so great in his first 3 but toughed it out probably too long. i give it a 3 star rating just based on the songs i actually like. the rest of them could of been left off this cd.

1 out of 5 stars 1-1/2 Stars -- My boy X has let me down..........2006-05-21

I use to be a huge DMX fan when he first came out on It's Dark And Hell Is Hot. Then he did get a little overexposed when he dropped his second album in the same year Flesh Of My Flesh, Blood Of My Blood. Nevertheless I could always find myself enjoying his hits "Ruff Ryders Anthem", "Party Up", "Here We Go Again" and "Who We Be". Unlike many other artists his skits tied in with the album too like Damien. Now he has decided to drop his finale Grand Champ and there's nothing much grand about it.

The difference between this album and his previous ones is you could always find at least one dope track on their. You can't find anything here. "Where The Hood At" makes no sense at all with X's disgusting lyrics, and "My Life" sounds like one long loop. The chorus on "F Y'all" is real lazy as is "Bring The Noize"

Guests artists don't help like Cam'ron on "We Go Hard". I have to agree with other reviewers when they said "We're Back" featuring Jadakiss and Eve sounds like it belongs back in 2000. "Shot Down" featuring 50 Cent and Styles P is okay, but that really doesn't sound a like a song you should hear 50 Cent in.

The prodcution on here is terrible with all the samples from old-school classics. "We `Bout to Blow", "On Top", and the Rockwilder-produced "Rob All Night", and Swizz Beatz's "Get It On the Floor" all sound like they were left off And Then There Was X.

The last three tracks are personal songs; "A'Yo Kato", which is okay; the obligatory duet with a famed R&B chick ("Thank You" with Patti LaBelle); and the spiritual "The Prayer" (praying to a club-sounding song???). And one more thing 23 tracks is just way too long. All of the skits suck, and with the same classic barks of "WHAT!", and "COME ON!" fans will see the obvious slippage DMX has taken through his long career.

4 out of 5 stars DMX Just A Man.......2004-11-16

Hey
I have liked DMX ever since I heard his duet with Mary J. Blige, and his Angel song with Regina Belle. And now he is singing with my Favorite Artist PATTI LABELLE which i think shows that he isn't so bad. He can kick it with the girls and the guys and that is cool with me. I love the way he can show that he is vunerable in some ways. Keep it Up "X" Much Luv!

3 out of 5 stars 5x Grand Champ!.......2004-07-12

Next to Eminem, DMX is my favorite rapper/actor. I have all his cd's 'cept the first 2 and they are great. But then I heard this one. Not so good. Only about 5 to 6 tracks were worth a listen. "The Prayer" follow-up skit was great, and the "Thank-U" message to God was real good. But then u get to "Where The Hood At" and the lyrics did a 360. They changed em' so bad, even a saint would want to hear it "explicit". The word "ni***'", was edited waaay to strongly. After all, DMX is black,so he CAN say it if he wants. But the Censores think not obviously. Anyway, it is a ruined song. The whole album feels largely rushed in a bad way. I gave it three stars because there are some excellent songs, but unless u really like X', then don't waste your money. Most songs are just repeats of the same old messages. Well, anyway, it's an okay album.

3 out of 5 stars It's alright, but could be better........2003-10-14

I was extremely excited when i bought this cd because i thought Where The Hood At was DMX's best song, but when i listened to the whole cd i realized that it was almost complete garbage. The only reason i gave 3 stars is that A'yo Kato, Thank You, The Rain, Prayer V, and the bonus track On Top are all hot but the rest is complete trash. And Where The Hood At has so many bleeps that you have no clue what he is sayin. I recommend you get an unedited version of this cause there is way too many bleeps. I burned the unedited version of Where The Hood At and it is so much better, but most of the CD is garbage. Can anybody tell me a good DMX CD before i lose interest in him? He is truly an awesome rapper but he can do better than this.

5 out of 5 stars Explosive!.......2003-09-22

The last three tracks are personal songs; "A'Yo Kato", which is okay; the obligatory duet with a famed R&B chick ("Thank You" with Patti LaBelle); and the spiritual "The Prayer" (praying to a club-sounding song???). And one more thing 23 tracks is just way too long. All of the skits suck, and with the same classic barks of "WHAT!", and "COME ON!" fans will see the obvious slippage DMX has taken through his long career.
