Although he's come close before, the third time's the charm for Canibus. Rip the Jacker, the final installment of the poetic MC's indie-release trilogy (and his fifth album overall), delivers exactly what his fans have been waiting for. The album does away with the defects that plagued its predecessors, namely sub-par production and half-hearted attempts at commercial viability. Instead of spreading the wealth among a half-dozen mediocre beat makers, Canibus offers Stoupe, of Jedi Mind Tricks fame, full control behind the boards, and that level of commitment makes a world of difference. Stoupe's beats draw from a wide range of influences, meshing well with Canibus's complex imagery. Bis also shuffles the deck a bit here, adding some sophisticated narrative lyrics to his usual arsenal of battle rhymes. Speaking of battle rhymes, check out "Poet Laureate II," which is seven perfect minutes of straight spitting--no hooks and no choruses, the beat changing several times to fit the flow. --Rebecca Levine

Seeking to challenge convention without concern for commercialism, Canibus and Stoupe chose an unorthodox production approach. Just prior to enlisting in the US Army, Canibus laid the vocals for the entire album. Stoupe would then spend the entire winter of 2002 creating a sonic landscape that would mesh seamlessly with Canibus' intricate rhyme style. We are proud to say that the result is an album where Canibus' music is finally as interesting as his incredible lyrics.

This review is long overdue but this album since it came out is wow lots of good tracks but what really put me onto this guy was poet leurete pt 2 since then went back and got everything and for real Im hoping this next album is next week because if it is Im def gonna go get it same day

I have been a huge fan of Canibus since I first heard Second round knock out on BET. I was amazed at the lyrical wizardry of this mic master, his flow literally left me drooling! I instantly purchased the full length release "Canibus". My exited anticipation was met with disppointment. Not with the lyrics, no, the lyrics are tight as all hell. The beats were weak. WEAK! Wyclef did such an injustice to Bis' and the album flopped, save for the Bis' initiates who were enthralled with his lyrical genius. Nevertheless, I rocked that album everyday. 2000 B.C came out and again, the lyrics were dope as ever, but the beats were lacking, frankly they sucked. Another let down in the production area. And this was tarnishing Bis' name because although he is a master emcee, without master beats to back him up, his cd's just didn't feel right. Then came Rip the Jacker, which featured Stoupe the Enemy of Mankind on beats and an instant classic was born! Bis' lyric are as fresh as ever on Rip the Jacker, which is a concept album as well. The collab of Stoupe's beats and Bis' lyrics is phenomenal. Rip the Jacker is the album that I and many others have been waiting for. Aside from a few cheezy concepts, the album is perfection. Canibus is an amazing emcee. One of the top emcees in the game. This is the Canibus album to own.

if you ignore pha_q "j" (texas)his stero must be playing spice girls as he is obviously wrong. this album is absolutely breath taking my favourite artists are the likes of jedi mind tricks, MF DOOM, Nas, talib kweli, mos def, etc i love this music and with stoupe (the enemy of mankind) on the track it just rises this album above the rest, if you like the artist i mention and maybe even if you just appreciate pure lyrical and music genius you will buy this album and you will love it

he is garbage, why do you think you never hear about him, nobody wants to listen to his scientifical garbage lyrics, words that dont even make sense, look at the titles of the tracks on the cd, that should say it all, he dont even make sense. the whole cd is garbage, his style is garbage, his flow is garbage. i tried to give him no stars but they wont let you

Canibus has blessed the true hip hop heads with this classic album! This is what real hip hop sounds like! There's no rapping about how many times he's been shot, no rapping about gold teeth, no rapping about 22 inch rims on Escalades; Canibus spits flows about everything from philosophy (How many rappers do you know who can rap about the philosophy of David Hume?--not many) to the Orwellian nature of the United States government. To everyone who complains that Canibus uses "big words", try picking up a book and a dictionary and obtaining some true knowledge and wisdom, instead of staying ignorant. If you want simplistic flows, then stick with Nelly and Cash Money; if you want thought-provoking lyrics, give this album a chance!
