Ge-Ology Plays Ge-Ology

Editorial Reviews
Product Description
Ge-ology Plays Ge-ology is the 1st full length release by visual artist, producer, music connoisseur and friend of many, Ge-ology. The album is a mixtape style retrospective of past 12"s, classic collaborations and unheard beats mixed and conceived by the Renaissance man himself. Like his visual style, intricate, referential street and vibrant, Ge-ology Plays Ge-ology is a solid mix of buttery hip hop, fluid syncopations and progressive soul. Providing Tupac's Shakur's first beat, producing tracks for Mos Def & Talib Kweli, Jill Scott, De La Soul, Jem, Bahamadia, Mystic and many others, touring abroad w/ the art collective "The Barnstormers", designing Rawkus 12"'s, Geology has proven that music and art, lineage and forward thinking are all mutually exclusive; Ge-ology Plays Ge-ology represents this spectrum. Appreciate.

5 out of 5 stars Who? {5 Stars}.......2007-02-21

Ge-Ology is one of those producers that I put in the same boat as Ayatollah. Not that they sound the same, but they remain slept on despite crafting banger after banger for your favorite emcees. I admit that I didn't even know who he was until I got this album, but I've been looking into his catalog ever since I got it. He's done plenty of tracks for folks, but his most recognizable track to me was his contribution to Mos Def's debut album -- the bangin' "Brooklyn", but it's not even the best track on the album. Not only are the instrumentals great, but Ge-Ology even remixes classics like the Pete Rock and Grand Agent banger "This Is What They Meant" and invites underground wordsmiths like the ill duo Unspoken Heard (Asheru & Blue Black) to drop in and craft heavenly joints like "Elevator Music (Between Floors Medley)." Whether it's the neck jerking funk of "Imagine", the erie thump of "Idle Eyes", or the laid back coolness of "Sands Of Time (Geoquintessential Mix)", there's a little bit for everyone on this album.

As far as flaws, forget about it. I mean, of course, there are a few tracks that may get skipped (I tend to frequently skip "FashO"), but it's an instrumental album that is 30 tracks deep and over an hour long, so that's to be expected. There are no wack tracks though. Everything flows like water. You'd be hard pressed to find anything wrong with this LP.

Ge-Ology Plays Ge-Ology is one of those albums that's practically flawless but manages to fly under everyone's radar for some odd reason. I've said it before, but the success of most instrumental albums depends on the style of the producer and pretty much whether or not they make wack beats. Well, it's safe to say that Ge-Ology doesn't make wack beats and that this is definitely a top shelf disc. He won't remain slept on for long if he keeps putting out these quality tracks. Or will he? Either way, he definitely deserves to get the noteriety and respect that he's being deprived of. I recommend adding this album to your collection if you want some great beats to mellow out to -- whether you're into hip hop or not.

Standout Tracks: Imagine (Instrumental), Driven (Frum Dey Won), This Is What They Meant (Geology's Lost Remix), Idle Eyes, Xtramental, Sands Of Time (Geoquintessential Mix), Guilt Junkie (My Favorite), Street March, Love Planet Science, Elevator Music (Between Floors Medley), All Alone (Loneymental), Funky 4U (Profilemental), and Let Me (Instrumental)

Undoubtedly the gem amidst a barrage of summer albums to drop in '05. Incredible
production, basically the closest thing to perfection you're going to get without staking
residency inside the minds of Beethoven, Janko Nilovic, Ellen Allien, Derrick May, Thom
Yorke, Jonny Greenwood or Tim Gane, en masse. It is no question a producer's dream to
appeal to masses of music lovers without regard to one specific genre or a preformulated
protocol..Ge-Ology flawlessly achieves that goal and continues to gain praise from critics,
renowned DJs, stoop dwellers, veterans, new gen music snobs, and aficionados
across the globe. In rotation, works sans défaut as backdrop for a cypher, barbecue, VIP
Lounge, striptease, boning in a stairwell or a sweaty basement wind session from Brooklyn
to London, the Netherlands to L.A., Philly back to the East Village. Sensuality and
sexuality delineated through SP12s and MPCs, a 69 minute orgasm for your eardrums. Don't
sleep.

This is the long awaited CD by Ge-ology himself. The CD is tight, there are many joints on here I've heard before, but it's refreshing to hear the two songs by Vinia....Overall I give the CD 5 stars for it's ability to head your head nodding in the car esp. if you are driving a long distance. Highly reccomend.

Please be on the lookout for an escaped madman named Geology. All reports seem to indicate that he is armed and dangerous. We are just awaiting further evidence at this point...Peace and Love.
