Forever [Explicit Lyrics]

When MC Lyte rapped "Beat biter / Dope style taker / Tell you to your face you ain't nothing but a faker," she wasn't referring to Puff Daddy, but those words may have echoed in the brains of many non-NY producers--especially those from New Orleans and the Bay Area--upon hearing the bad boy don's second solo effort, Forever. For much of the latter part of the '90s, many New York rappers have included a couple of token G-funk or bounce-influenced tracks on their albums, but on Forever, Puff takes it to extremes, with almost half the album falling into that category. One would think that Puff's lazy, unskilled drawl would fit perfectly with the foreign sonics, but instead, his mumbling is more blatant, twitching erratically like the proverbial fish out of water, especially on cuts like "What You Want" and "Satisfy You" (where he loops the Luniz' classic "I Got 5 On It"). Where he sticks to the usual plan, he pulls it off steadily, and on "Journey Through the Life," a powerful posse cut with Nas, Beanie Sigel, and Lil' Kim, he's created a NY thug cut par excellence. Just goes to show you can't teach an old producer new beats--even if he pays royally for them. --Jon Caramanica

It's no small feat to follow an instant classic like Common's Be (2005) but he skillfully builds on that success with a worthy sequel. The two albums share much in common, especially with Finding Forever's focus and brevity (under 50 minutes) and especially with Kanye West's musical direction. The two Chicago natives have forged a strong chemistry together, especially on songs like "Start the Show" and "Southside" where both men appear, but just as a producer, West makes his presence felt on everything from the catchy piano tinkles of "Driving Me Wild" (featuring British chanteuse Lily Allen) to the brass-knuckled "The Game" (featuring DJ Premier). As has become his trademark, Common balances heartfelt earnestness ("Black Maybe") with clever charm ("Break My Heart") though he has one too many love songs ("I Want You"). Whether Finding Forever surpasses Be is a matter of individual, song-for-song taste: At worst, it's on par--a laudable accomplishment for a veteran now 15 years into his career. --Oliver Wang
Album Description
Multi-faceted Hip-Hop superstar Common is prepping his highly anticipated seventh album, Finding Forever, for a July 31st release on G.O.O.D Music/Geffen Records. The album is the follow up to the four times Grammy nominated, critically heralded and Kanye West produced Be, which spawned hits including The Corner, Go, and Testify. Finding Forever, finds Kanye again taking the bulk of production work with help from Will.I.Am on the sultry I Want You, the late great J. Dilla on So Far To Go, featuring a surprise guest appearance by D'Angelo and G.O.O.D Music producer Devo Springsteen on Misunderstood. On Finding Forever, Common, rips the mic like a hungry newcomer. The street single The Game produced by Kanye with scratches by the legendary DJ Premier is a horn drenched, vintage NY rap boom-bap banger from the Chi-town emcee, no less. The resounding lead single The People finds Common lyrically asserting why and who he creates his music for over regal strings, delectable keys and hard to get vocals by Gil Scott Heron. This is the explicit version.

Perfect.......2007-08-08
I personally thought "BE" was solid if unspectacular, but "Finding Forever" is without a flaw. I'm on my 3rd copy already because people will not give this CD back if you loan it out, so be forewarned! There is simply not a bad song in this entire bunch and picking favorites is really beside the point, but I will tell you the moment I fell in love with this insta-classic, when the bass and background vocals drop out on "U, Black Maybe" and Common starts his spoken-word confessional over a simple backdrop of bongos, about the persecution we face from other people including "your own", I cried. Another highlight is the superb "I Want You" produced by and featuring wil.i.am. on an addictive chorus. Props to Kanye West for his great contributions, my favorite being the classic ear-rattling boom-bap on the opener "Start The Show". This is the best 'real' hip hop album since last year's "Game Theory" by his comrades The Roots. Essential listening.
Cool but the last one was better.......2007-08-07
I've listened to this album three times in a row just waiting to embrace it, but minus "Break My Heart," I haven't bobbed my head to ANY of the beats. The lyrics are intelligent in usual Common style, and it's a cool CD, but the album just has a steady flow throughout. No standouts. No bad songs. But "Break My Heart" was the only one I'd really want to buy.
Its weakness was the last album's strength.......2007-08-07
When reviews began claiming that this album surpassed "Be," I was a bit skeptical. I loved every song on "Be," sometimes not so much for Common's rapping (a little under his par at that time), but simply for the quality of the overall production. I had rarely heard such a soulful, cohesive and beautifully-layered record. Fans will enjoy the fact that on "Finding Forever," Common definitely steps up his wordplay and delivery from the last album. The problem this time around, in my opinion, is the production.
Intro - Very cool, no problems here.
Start the Show - I was caught a little off-guard with this one. After hearing track one, I wanted a mellow beginner, but was instead blown out of my seat. This beat was working for me until they brought in that annoying and repetitive four-note layer of chime-sounding instruments. Too much.
The people - Between the despairing string sections and the happy, synthed-out sections of this beat, "The People" sounds like two different songs. A little too weird for me.
Drivin' me Wild - The piano part is the most repetitive and elementary loop in a song I've ever heard, and the sung hook just drives me over the edge. Forget wild, this song will drive you crazy.
I Want You - It's beautiful in Chorus World where the synths come back in and Will-i-am is singing. As soon as the verses start back, though, all one hears is drums under Common's voice. Some will enjoy the simplicity here, but others will admit this song sounds a little empty.
Southside - LOVE the beat and the battle-rap-style verses. This is definitely one you can bang your head to. My only beef with this song is Kanye yelling with Common in the chorus and trying to sing at the end. Though either one or both are probably supposed to be funny, this isn't a funny song...it has rock guitar and gritty drums in it. Kanye sounds like he recorded those parts from a hospital bed after an asthma attack.
The Game - You either love the little 3-note organ pattern over drums or you don't. That's about as deep as this song gets. Cool scratches, though.
Black Maybe - I've heard this drum pattern in a million other songs, but I'll give Common credit for a very original song idea. It was also refreshing to hear more musical depth in this track.
So far to Go - I love the groove of the drums here, and this track is growing on me.
Break my Heart - Best song on this album due to great vocal sampling. The beat's shift from verse to hook sections is again a bit weird, but because it isn't as drastic as "The People," it works a bit better.
Misunderstood - This song is growing on me...not much I can complain about. Are we sure this isn't produced by Dr. Dre?
Forever begins - Creative drum pattern, good piano, and a pretty good closer. Not too bad, but it won't be stuck in your head like the closer from "Be."
My advice? Buy 2-4 of the MP3's and hold your breath for a better-produced Common album. I am a HUGE Common fan, but this album as a whole disappoints me more with every listen.
Finding the "Moment".......2007-08-07
This project is very decent yet it has it's drawbacks that should be noted. First of all, Common has lyrically pigeonholed himself. How many times can you say the things but in a slightly different way? Hearing him portray himself as the hip hop Stokely Carmichael has gotten very tiring. His range of subject material is more minute than ever even though it's positive. However, being positive can only be seen from the contrast of negativity. In other words, too much of a good thing is bad. The production is "cute" at best. Kanye is no J Dilla. The beats on "The People" and "Black Maybe" are fragile beyond belief. Kanye's sound isn't wholesome and fully blossomed as Jay Dee's was and is. There is absolutely no "thump" in his beats as if Kanye has never heard of a kickdrum.
There are about 2 too many "love" songs. Leave 2 of "Drivin' Me Wild" , "Break My Heart", "I Want You", or "So Far To Go" off the CD. And speaking of "So Far To Go", the lyrics are awful. The lyrics seem to be an afterthought as Common does even take them seriously. It was thrown together at the last moment and came off as a slap in the face to the legend J Dilla. The version on "The Shining" is ten times better and should have been on the cd instead. Also, Kanye said that he chopped up the samples the way J Dilla would have, but the only thing on this cd that reminds me of J Dilla is the 15 second beat on the end of "I Want You" that could have only been done by someone from Detroit like Kareem Riggins because I know Will I Am couldn't have done it. The beat was both refreshing and agitating because it reminded me of a J Dilla beat yet it lasted for only a short moment.
A few of the songs seem like they were made for 13 year olds like "Break My Heart" and "Driving Me Wild" - very immature. About 2 months ago on www.wikipedia.com, I saw a track listing for this project. Common had a song titled "The Ambassadors" that featured Nas on the cd. Why was that an unused track? Now if you go to www.wikipedia.com, you will see that songs featuring The Last Poets and Eminem were left off the cd as well. What happened? The Kanye West and Common dynamic duo thing is boring now. It would have been great to hear Common rhyme with other heavyweights in the game. Was he going get shown up by Nas and Eminem on his own project like Eminem did Jay-Z on "Renegade"? I wonder.
All in all, this project is acceptable. I really believe that Common isn't putting his full effort in his music anymore, as he has 3 movies coming out in the near future. This project isn't as better as "Be" and "Like Water For Chocolate" kills it. And yes, even the misunderstood classic "Electric Circus", which was waaaay ahead of it's time. It's a shame and a travesty to keep hearing Common apologize for that right-brained masterpiece - another insult to the late great J Dilla. That project was creativity at its height.
Common has a blueprint that needs modifications. It's getting to be the same ole song only appropriate for the moment, not forever...
"Finding Forever" cements Common's legacy in "The Game" as kickback records get kicked to the back........2007-08-07
I have followed Common Sense ever since I heard the track "Take It EZ". Originally, I didn't purchase Can I Borrow a Dollar?, but I definitely enjoyed "Take It EZ", "Breaker 1/9", "Soul By The Pound", "Heidi Hoe" and "Charms Alarm". Once I heard "I Used To Love H.E.R.", Common's dedication to hip hop, I knew that his next CD, Resurrection, would also be worth checking out, but for some reason I didn't purchase the CD right away. When I saw the video for Common's track with Lauryn Hill, "Retrospect For Life", once his 3rd disc had already dropped, One Day It'll All Make Sense, that's when I decided to make my first Common purchase. Tracks like "Gettin' Down At The Amphitheater" w/De La Soul, "G.O.D." w/Cee Lo, "All Night Long" w/Erykah Badu, "Stolen Moments Part 2" w/Black Thought from The Roots and "Making A Name For Ourselves" w/Canibus ended up being my favorite tracks. Common's 4th CD, Like Water For Chocolate, may have just been his best CD. The DJ Premier produced 1st single, "The 6th Sense", "Dooin It", "A Song For Assata", and one of his most successful singles to date, "The Light" ended up being my favorite tracks. Electric Circus seemed to be more of an experimental CD for Common. Although I did enjoy the 1st single, "Come Close" which featured Mary J. Blige and the CD's closer "Heaven Somewhere", Common definitely lost me within the experiment of this CD. However, Nas had "Nastradamus" and Jay-Z had "In My Lifetime Volume 1" so just because Common made 1 CD that I didn't enjoy didn't mean that I would stop supporting Common.
However, at the right time, it seemed as if Common had his own "Resurrection" after some of his fans were disappointed with "Electric Circus" with his verse on Kanye West's "Get 'Em High", which also featured Talib Kweli. If any of Common's fans thought he had lost it after "Electric Circus" he definitely proved them wrong after just one verse. I later found out that Common had signed with Kanye's G.O.O.D. music imprint and while I was hesitant at first, I figured that if anyone would steer Common's career back in the right way that Kanye could. When I first heard "The Corner", that was definitely the Common that I had missed on Electric Circus. Common seemed like he had a passion to rhyme again and with Kanye West on the boards it seemed as if Common had a point to prove all over again. Be was in the CD player for a long time. My favorite tracks ended up being "The Corner", "Testify", "Chi City", "Go", "Real People" and "The Food", which was originally featured on The Dave Chapelle Show.
The first track that I heard off of Common's 7th solo offering "Finding Forever" was "The Game". The Kanye West track definitely had an old school feel to it and Common sounds like he is trying to make sure that people didn't believe that "Be" was a fluke. He also wants to make sure that if you are tired of listening to the hip hop of today, which has no substance at all that you have a CD that you can put in your stereo or in the CD player in your car that you can actually learn something from. Common's 2nd single "The People" which features Dwele is an excellent example of that. Common could have easily went with "Break My Heart" or "I Want You" as the next single. However, he dares to be different. He doesn't want to follow the trends of the rapper who is just motivated by selling units and selling his soul to "The Game".
"Finding Forever" was released on July 31, 2007. After a short instrumental intro, Common and Kanye West's hook does a good job to "Start The Show". Common's lyrics are just as potent as they are on "The Game" and Kanye has one of his best beats on "Finding Forever" on this track. You will definitely be able to tell that Common has some subliminal messages in the track for a certain rapper or rappers in general. "Drivin' Me Wild" may take awhile to grow on you because, in my opinion, it's not a track that you will like after just 1 or 2 listens. This is track 1 of 4 that Common has on "Finding Forever" where he is talking about a woman or women in general. While it may not be one of Finding Forever's best tracks, "Drivin' Me Wild" will grow on you after awhile. Will.I.Am stops by to produce what may be the 3rd single in "I Want You". While I have never been a fan of The Black Eye Peas, Will.I.Am has definitely impressed me with his production work on the latest offerings from Mary J. Blige, Nas, Game and John Legend. He also produced another track that should be on "Finding Forever" in "A Dream" that was featured on the "Freedom Writers" soundtrack. One of the best production moments on this CD is when Will.I.Am. changes the beat of the track before the 3rd verse begins. Track 2 of 4 for the ladies is neck and neck and may even be a tie with "Break My Heart". Will.I.Am has a nice hook and Common's lyrics take care of the rest. "Southside" features Kanye West and the 2 rappers do a good job of going back and forth together with their verses like they have been in a group for years. The track appears to be a freestyle with a nice Kanye beat and you can never go wrong with that combination. Common even goes as far as saying, "You in the building, but the building's fallin', you wouldn't be ballin', if your name was Spalding". It appears Nas isn't the only one that has words for fly by night rapper of the moment, Jim Jones. Common is a teacher spreading his lessons on "U, Black Maybe". On the track, Common makes you think as he raises the question of Blacks always trying to blame the next man, which is usually another race, for their problems. However, in some cases we bring our own people down and we don't even recognize that fact or we in our own system of denial. Common features track 3 of 4 for the ladies in "So Far To Go" which features D'Angelo and is produced by the late, great J Dilla. The track was originally featured on J Dilla's "The Shining" CD. Common was also featured on another track on "The Shining" entitled "E=MC2". "Break My Heart" may be the song that will stay in your head just because of the Kanye West sample. However, Common's wordplay on this track is simply phenominal. He describes a situation where a woman is hesitant to get invloved with him and Common uses his lyrics to get the woman to "come on and go with him". This track is definitely one of my favorites on "Finding Forever".
Devo Springsteen must have gotten access to Kanye's stash of samples because he cleverly uses a sample on "Misunderstood". The clever use of the sample, the production and Common's lyrics make this track a nice combination. Bilal does a good job on the hook and Common does his best to make people understand that the problems in the world today are real problems and not just things that you can ignore because it isn't happening to them. "Forever Begins" ends "Finding Forever" on a nice note especially with Common's verses and towards the end of the track with the powerful words. The chorus is fine but it seems as if Kanye had an "overproduction" moment when the singers started singing the hook.
Overall, "Finding Forever" is a CD that will be in your CD player for awhile just as "Be" was. I would give a slight edge to "Be" as far as what CD I like better but "Finding Forever" is just as nice as "Be" was. Common's 2nd CD on G.O.O.D. music will also end up being a classic to most of his fans and fans of real hip hop music. There are some moments that Common will have you wondering why are you talking about Jen and Vince Vaughn and Ryan and Reese Witherspoon, however, his attack of the 2007 "I must sell unit" rappers on "Start The Show" and "The Game", his lessons on "U, Black Maybe" and "Misunderstood" and his wonderful tracks for the ladies with "Break My Heart", "I Want You" and "So Far To Go" will make you forget about any disappointments that you may have with this CD. If this CD doesn't cement Common's legacy in rap music, I am not sure what else he will have to do in order to convince you of his skills. If you liked "Be" and if you are a fan of Common's previous CDs, then you would be a fool to pass up on "Finding Forever".

classic music CD.......2007-06-27
The CD was well represented by the clips on the Amazon website and came in time for our event. We did have a problem with the charge but that was taken care of promptly. Great service.
Good for beginners.......2007-02-15
It is an excellent collection of classical music. I would recommend this CD if you have a friend who don't like classical music, since it has the most beautiful overtures and portions of famous artists. If you are a Classic Music Savvy you probably will not be impressed by it, unless you want to play the CD as background music in a friends gathering.
Great mix.......2007-02-14
All the best composers! Over an hour of music. A samble of the greatest pieces.
Good for first-timer.......2007-01-22
This is the first time I have ever bought a classical music CD and I was very pleased with this one. It has a good variety of selections. I would buy it again.

One of rock's most overlooked masterpieces, this third album by the L.A. folk-rock outfit led by inscrutable singer-songwriter Arthur Lee sounds as fresh and innovative today as it did upon its original release in 1968. With David Angel's atmospheric string and horn arrangements giving the work a conceptual underpinning, Lee explores mainstream America's penchant for paranoia ("The Red Telephone") and violence ("A House Is Not a Motel") with songs that are as sonically subtle and lilting as they are lyrically blunt and harrowing. Add two gems by Love's secret weapon, second guitarist Bryan MacLean ("Alone Again Or" and "Old Man"), and you've got one of the truly perfect albums in rock history. Rhino's deluxe reissue serves up seven bonus tracks, including outtakes, alternates, and the "Your Mind and We Belong Together"/"Laughing Stock" single. --Billy Altman

The Summer of Love, inverted.......2007-07-24
One of the great, inexplicably overlooked masterpieces of the 60s, Forever Changes is a collection of dreamy, ethereal pop songs with a dark, foreboding undercurrent. The music is lush and moody, soaked in atmosphere and dripping with dark color. The lyrics are pure hallucinogenic poetry, full of striking images and verbal mind games. The instrumrntation, although mostly accoustic, is as vibrant and nuanced as any Jimi Hendrix guitar solo. The arrangements include light orchestration, but the swirling violins and ominous horns don't sound out of place or pretentious. They mesh wonderfully with the songs, creating a series of dense, textured soundscapes that sound more and more engrossing with each listen. The end result is something akin to walking through a gorgeous and dreamlike meadow where the grass screams in agony whenever you step on it. In other words, this is a darkly beautiful classic, a unique and brilliant colection of songs that belongs in the posession of anyone who is even halfway concerned with collecting good rock music.
As far as highlights go, I've always loved the low-key catchiness and irrepressable menace of "A House Is Not A Motel," as well as the icy, bittersweet "Andmoreagain." "Alone Again Or" is a haunting portrait of loneliness, and an enticing soundscape that incorporates dazzling flameno guitars and a tense, ominous string section. There's also the stark, apocalyptic beauty of "The Red Telephone" and "The Good Humor Man Sees Everything Like This," as well as the hazy, hifting textures of "You Set the Scene." But really, every song here has something to reccomend it. From start to finish, Forever Changes is a truly great album, and one that you'd do well to pick up as soon as possible.
A Classic!.......2007-07-12
A classic album that needs to be part of your collection. Could'nt revive my plastic. Don't miss out.
LOVE's apex.......2007-07-04
"Forever Changes" has appeared on the "top 100 album lists" of many major rock reviewers. Why? There are elements of other great bands in this album, which raises the old "which came first?" conundrum. The simplist and safest resolution to this argument is to say that these bands (THE DOORS, BUFFALO SPRINGFIELD, etc,) were all influenced by, worked in, and contributed to the "melting pot" (no pun intended) that was the LA music scene at that time. In addition, there are even a few "touches" of British influence here, but those were also evident on their first album. Overall, this is an album that is unique enough to have withstood the test of time and continues to provide aural pleasures to new listeners. It has been suggested that drug use may have contributed to the oblique lyrics on this album and, yes, the breakup of the original (and best) incarnation of this band. Beyond this explanation, however, is the poetic aspects of the lyrics which allow us to impose and fill in our own intrepretations of the songs. That quality has contributed to their lasting appeal and is at the base of much good art. Like all great artists (whether it is Picasso or the Beatles) it was their ability to combine old things in new ways that made them unique and transcend the obvious and mundane. You either tell a great and universal story that everyone can relate to or you create an environment in/on which people can superimpose their own experiences. LOVE could certainly tell a straightforward rock and roll tale, but it stood out for its ability to do the latter.
Highest Recommendation.......2007-05-26
The best acoustic guitar rock/pop album of all time. Sure, at times its sentimental, cheesy and sixtyish, but WTF, so am I. About the remastering job from Rhino, you're absolutely right, it should have been much better. Oh well. Peace
Forever Changes forever!.......2007-05-17
Greatest Album Ever! There's so many versions available these days though, I thought I'd chime in and recommend this one for the music. The sound is a great improvement over the first single CD release AND there's bonus tracks. Don't fall for the more recent 2007 release. No extra tracks and the print is so small you won't be able to read who did what witout a magnifying glass. If you've never bought this album, I suggest buying this CD version along with the Sundazed vinyl release. Sundazed puts out a killer re-issue with excellent art reproduction and quality vinyl. It's actally fun to play the vinyl and CD at the same time and switch back and forth to see if there's any difference. CDs are so intrenched in todays culture that people forget that a clean vinyl copy on a good turntable sounds just as good, and sometimes better. All this talk bout digital this and digital that also makes folks forget that speakers as well as human ears are, and always will be, analog!

Enjoyable Listening.......2007-07-26
Patrizio has a charming voice which he uses to full advantage in these classic Italian songs ... Very enjoyable...
"Extended Resolution CD" (what's this?).......2007-07-23
Being familiar with Patrizio Buanne's beautiful voice from purchasing his 1st USA release (that included 4 DVD video samples, but not any whole songs), was inspired to purchase his new CD. Since I could not find it anywhere local or thru Amazon upon it's initial release, I too decided to order from outside the USA. What I got was an "Extended Resolution CD" I thought, great, even better sound quality. Found no difference in the sound, so not sure what Universal is implying. What I did find was a total shock or surprise. This is the Hong Kong Universal Release. It contains 2 CD's, disc A contains most of the Forever Begins Tonight program, but it also contains 6 extra cuts ... they claim it to be Mr Buanne, but I know it's not..it's Robbie Williams from his Live Concert CD at "Live at the Albert Hall" doing "Beyond The Sea" the other 5 cuts are from Robbie's various rock CD's (which do not belong in this catagory of music choice). The 2nd Cd is Patrizio's "Il Mundo" Has the same 15 tracks from the USA release but has an additional 5 more. Those last five are not Patrizio singing at all again, they are of Michael Buble, from his first CD. I do own both of the CD's (of Michael and Robbie)they took these cuts from, and love them both, but it would have been nice to know what I was getting, giving me an option to purchase as such.... This comment is not meant to review the "Forever Begins Tonight" CD, but more so just to say shame on Universal for putting out something that is obviously not acurate. Piracy, as I see it!...... I was excited to hear Patrizio's version of Beyond The Sea, Let Me Entertain You, Moon Dance, For Once In My Life, Summer Wind, Come Fly With Me and Crazy Little Thing called Love, as is indicated on the album description back cover. I wont name the last 4 titles included, as they are "hard rock" and do not belong in an album of this format. I wonder if either Robbie Williams or Michael Buble are aware of this. On the positive side, you do get both the Forever Beings Tonight and Il Mondo CDs in one package for the price of one, and if you don't mind the included errors, then this Hong Kong version would be a good buy.... for me just too disturbing. This would be my only reason for not giving it the 5 stars. Otherwise, I agree, Mr Buanne is one great talent with a big future ahead of him. I'd like to find a USA(none PAL) release DVD.
Patricio.......2007-07-18
This is my second CD by this artist and I truly enjoyed all the songs.
Just as good as his first CD.
I CAN'T STOP SMILING!.......2007-07-18
I just discovered Patrizio here on Amazon while looking for other CD's. My first purchase was "Buanne The Italian". I suppose being Italian didn't hurt my choice. : ) It didn't take long for me to fall in love with this incredibly talented young man. I decided to purchase his second CD too. Well, it's 7:55 AM (eastern time) and i'm sitting here at my computer listening to "Luna Mezz 'O Mare", or "Way Ma Ma". I've listened to it about 6 times already and I can't stop repeating it. I remember this song from way back, probably from my parents and I just wish they could have heard him. They would have loved him. I'm not saying you have to be Italian to enjoy Patrizio, but it helps! I don't speak any Italian (with the exception of a couple of words), but I enjoy him immensely. He really mixes up the music and his romantic songs are wonderful. What a voice he was blessed with and his personality goes right along with it. You will know what I mean when you see his DVD. Incredible! I just wish I could see him in concert. I know I said too much, sorry!

This is so great!.......2005-03-27
This music speaks to my inner being, my father was a Marine with the ETC, and it was not an easy time. Music like this helped him think about how the best things in life are two doors down on the left, just a shade away from peace. I love this music, track 13 speaks to me so much that I am not sure if I have the time to listen as much as I want to! Such great music!

With his singular retro-rock vision, Chris Isaak had already graduated from cult figure to music-video heartthrob when he delivered this 1995 album. But if all the surface elements are intact, he has assimilated his chief vocal influences, Orbison and Elvis, even further, and Isaak's songs dig even deeper into his favorite subject, heartbreak, to shorten the distance between writer and singer. "Baby Did a Bad, Bad Thing," the set's opener, employs the same growling rock-speak as George Thorogood's notorious "Bad to the Bone," but without a trace of irony--Isaak lashes the listener with the torment of a betrayed lover, telegraphing fear, desire, and anguish as he wheels from rumbling accusations to keening falsetto cries. Elsewhere, he withdraws to the more lyrical croon of his previous work, his band wreathed with the throbbing tremolo and ghostly reverb that are their natural elements. There's a folk-rock jangle to the lovely, forlorn "Somebody's Crying," a disarming directness to the simple but aching title song, and another burst of fevered agony, "Go Walking Down There,"which gallops over a perfect mid-'60s guitar arrangement. For all its letter-perfect allusiveness, though, Forever Blue feels authentically heartbroken, not just cleverly crafted. --Sam Sutherland

On the road, its best to listen to it.......2006-10-28
Everyone has a retreat for listening to music, mine is my car on my long road trips as a travelling salesman.
This is a good album to watch the scene go by while letting it sink in..
A rock masterpiece.......2006-09-19
"Nothing matters now to me / Now that I lost my baby" For anyone who has ever felt this way after experiencing love, only to have had it slip through your fingers, this CD is for you. Isaak wonderfully captures the raw emotions of losing someone in these songs, which is why this CD excels so well. He wails as he laments his loss, though he is angry about it as well. Those of us who have gone through this experience understand it very well; we want our love to come back, yet at the same we direct our anger at this person because it is that person's choice. We are helpless because we cannot force the person to come back. "So please, return the love you took from me" he pleads viscerally on "Somebody's Crying." He is trying to cope with this loss and says some things that virtually ensure she won't come back. At this point, he realizes she is not coming back, so he lets the anger surface. The guitars become electric in every sense of the word as they complement the frustration and venting in his voice. A Hammond B3 sounds comfortably at home amidst the guitar and drums, and rock music is the perfect medium for the feelings being expressed. "Everything will work out okay / But not for me / and not for you." With this statement, he perfectly expresses the finality one sees at the end of a relationship, as though that is the end of life altogether. This person is someone we want so much and half of ourselves is suddenly gone. This CD came along just as I was going through this turmoil, which is why I am very thankful to Mr. Isaak for creating this fantastic music.
Chris' voice makes me weak in the knees!!!!.......2006-04-26
This is one of my favorite CDs of all time! Chris Isaak could sing 99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall and I would swoon. Everything about this album is perfect, from the voice, to the guitars, to the really-gets-under-your-skin melodies and lyrics.
Somebody's Crying is on my list of the greatest songs ever because it makes me sad and makes me want to dance at the same time. If Chris sang "please return the love you took from me" to me, I wouldn't be able to resist. There She Goes is another favorite. It makes you ache inside to hear the feeling in his voice as he's watching the girl he can no longer have walking along with someone else.
Every song on this album is well-written and incredibly infectious. I, like so many others who have reviewed this album, can listen to it all the way through without having to skip a dud song. This is Chris Isaak's very best album and no self-respecting music lover should be without it. Did I mention that I like Chris Isaak? A lot?
So Very Good.......2006-02-12
Great stuff, year after year. This album is a particularly good one from a really fine artist. What more can I say? Thank you Chris Isaak! You've added an irreplaceable dimension to many many hours.
Forever Blue=Forever Great!.......2006-02-11
I don't know the history of this CD, but I heard it was about his relationship breaking up. Listening to the songs and the theme played throughout, it seems to fit.
This work is awesome. This was the first Chris Isaak CD I ever bought and it remains the best (although I like his other work, too).
There are rocking numbers (Goin' Nowhere), soulful reflections (Things Go Wrong), heartbreakers (Forever Blue) and happy little tunes (I Believe). There is something for everyone. Isaak's range (both in voice and in selection) is varied, but always pleasant.
This is a beautiful work anyway you choose to think about it.

It is playing at work, in my car, I am singing along with it and singing the songs alone without it. I love love love it. I have also recommended it to a couple of co-workers. I HIGHLY recommend it to you.

I have purchased 4 copies to give away and share this inspiring collection with others. I only take time to rate things that stand out, and this does! It is a Beautiful Collection of Contemporary Christian Music that everyone can enjoy.

Guster's formula is quite simple: Take time-tested harmonies à la Simon and Garfunkel or the Hollies, pour them over pleasant acoustic guitars, and add a pinch of congas for toe-tapping made easier. Lost and Gone Forever all but screams "radio friendly!" (especially with hit-producing wunderkind Steve Lillywhite at the knobs), but luckily the final product is more palatable than that. The musical plan is occasionally augmented by an electric guitar or strings, but generally follows harmonious sounds over articulate voices. Some people will listen to Lost and Gone Forever and find it too slight and completely corny, but others will fall under the spell of Ryan Miller and Adam Gardner's full-bodied vocal blend. --Jason Josephes

The best guster CD if not the best CD ever.......2007-04-28
I have bought this CD a year ago and to this day it remains in my stereo all the time. Every single song on it is an instant guster classic and each song is very catchy in its own way. What you wish for is easily the best opening song on any guster cd to date. The bongos perfectly blend with the acoustic and electric guitars creating the most perfect musical sound i have ever heard, even better than the catchiness of oar or even dave matthews band.
The barrell of a gun is easily my favorite guster song of all time and i have listened to it 95 times on my i pod alone. Either way and FaFa are both extremely catchy but either way is mellower. I spy is short leading into the cuter sounding center of attention and all the way up to heaven (the whistling is very catchy i whistled this song in the halls of school one day). Happier so long and two points for honesty are on the mellow side but they are still great listens. Rainy day starts off mellow and builds up to being another one of gusters best songs.
Bottom line, this CD is possibly the best CD ever made. Barrell of a gun is one of the best songs ever made. Look at their live album and notice that almost every song from this cd is played on that live album and they all sound amazing. Guster is an amazing band and once you listen to this cd it will be imprinted in your head forever.
One of my favorite albums EVER.......2007-02-05
I love all types of music (rock, alternative, folk, jazz, country, bluegrass, etc. etc.) and listen to a little bit of everything. Having said that, if I was on a deserted island for a year, this would be on my top 5 of CD's to listen to repeatedly. The harmonies are amazing, the songs are Beatlesesque, and the pacing is great (except for the last song, Rainy Day, which I think even the band admits is kind of a "downer" after the rest of the (fairly) upbeat album). I've liked every CD they've done since then, but I'm not sure if they will match the brilliance of this CD. They are great musicians, they seem to be great guys (in interviews, in concert, etc.), they have a sense of humor about themselves, and they deserve their success.
This album sucks.......2007-01-16
After buying this album based on the excellent reviews, I will always, from now on, look at the negative reviews before buying. This album sucks. This music consists of brain-dead lyrics with a presumably emasculated lead singer(this surely is a modern guy capable of crying). This is not chill-out music - it is properly classified as "modern whining". And it's not good.
the best music is somtimes found by accident :).......2007-01-04
If you are tired of all the same music you hear on the radio all day, then you should give a listen to Guster, they are original in the most perfect way.I love the powerful lyrics and great sound. just give it chance for the love of great music :)
An AMAZING album!.......2006-06-29
This is the only album I have ever voted 5 stars in my entire life. Guster is a great band, and this is the pinncale of their works. If you are new to Guster, THIS is the album to get!
See the other reviews, listen to the samples, and you will know THIS is the one Guster album that everyone should own!
