Can-I-Bus [Explicit Lyrics]
Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com
Long a staple of the New York mix-tape scene, Canibus saw his impending debut get hyped for months. Maybe, though, there was too much buzz, and maybe it became more of a distraction than a confidence builder because, unfortunately, on Can-I-Bus, the silver-tongued (and sometimes -faced) MC is plagued not by a lack of rhymes--after all, "[Canibus] without lyrics is like a porn flick without sex," as he boasts on "Buckingham Palace"--but by utterly somnolent production. Though Wyclef Jean succeeds with the pulsing "Second Round K.O." and the Eno-meets-dub "Buckingham Palace," most of the beats are lackluster, hardly befitting Canibus's verbal blaze. With a producer like DJ Premier (of Gang Starr) or even Laze E. Laze (M.O.P.), Canibus would have a track worthy of his penetrating flow. --Jon Caramanica

...Can-I-Bus is more than just a cold stare and a big mouth. Canibus cuts his lyrics of fury with everything from financial advice to aspiring rappers ... to seriously weird science.

Why'd you do it to 'em, 'Clef?.......2006-07-28
Wyclef took a skilled lyricist' album and covered it up with the worst beats he could've thought up. Buckingham Place and Scond Round KO are tight. The other wack beat kill my patience, and everyone will miss many of his sharp, thoughful metaphors because of it. He needs to hook up with someone that knows how to link a hard beat with razor-sharp lyrics. His words are on point, but it's hard to sift through those garbage beats on this LP.
"99 Percent of Your Fans Wear High Heels".......2006-05-25
Can I Bus
This dude was one of the most hyped emcees ever, and with good reason. After dropping some incredible guest appearances with the Lost Boyz and The Firm, many people believed that Canibus was sure to blow up. This dude was the epitome of a battle rapper.
This cd has its' highs and lows. I'll start with the highs.
2nd Round KO is the ILLEST dis track I've ever heard. To this day I can't understand how anyone could think that LL won that battle. True, the ripper strikes back was also a good dis track, but 2nd Round KO is on another level. The line:
"You're mad at me cause I kick that ish real N***as feel, (with amazon.com edits)
While 99 percent of your fans wear high heels"
is one of the best battle punchlines I've ever heard and it is still relevant to LL's career in 2006. Buckingham Palace is another dope braggadocio track full of amazing punchlines and metaphors. These two tracks alone make this cd worth buying. Patriots and Get Retarded are also good tracks as well. What's Going On-a song centered on violence in hip-hop, is also well done.
However, this cd definitely has its' flaws.
1) As previously mentioned the majority of the production on this cd is pretty weak.
2) Canibus is another victim of the "curse of the battle rapper" in a sense that he can write battle tracks all day, but he struggles with conceptual songs. Certain tracks on this cd don't work at all.
While it doesn't live up to the hype, Can I Bus is overall a decent cd. There are some flashes of greatness on here. It is disappointing though in the sense that dude had so much potential, and he never really lived up to it. I wish he would have stuck to the battle/braggadocio tracks and got better production.
Cannibus - Can-I-Bus.......2006-03-16
Cannibus gots ill rhymes. Like "Don't even talk about guns; the only "nine" you got
is a five dollar bill and four ones" - That was clean! But come on, I mean the production yea, its not the best, but lyric wise Cannibus gots it poppin I think. Some of the beats on the album arent that bad, but some are decent. If Cannibus had some ILLER beats behind him hed definately get more props. Cannibus can spit, so take note of that, you all know it. I dont know why people hate on his stuff. Like my friend said "Oh he just throws all kinds of big words together, they dont make sense". Yea whatever. Yea not all the beats on here and all nice n sh**, but check it out anyways. They aint bad to where you cant listen to him. Plus the rhymes make up for the sh**. So check this album out!!!
My Top 5 Songs
1.Patriots
2.Second Round K.O
3.Whats Goin On
4.How We Roll
5.Buckingham Palace
Overall about 4 stars, great lyrics, could of had better beats to fit his style. Lyrically, hardly anyones on Can's level.
Canibus is unique.......2006-01-21
People just don't understand Canibus. He's a unique Jamaican born rapper with a unique voice and excellent rhymes. Best song on this album is "I Honor You" and second best is "How We Roll" or "Nigganometry"
Canibus is wack, 99% of his fans don't exist!.......2005-10-05
This wack mc ain't doing nothing special that I haven't heard before, he ain't an originator from the golden era of hip-hop, LL Cool J is, he came out before Rakim, Big Daddy Kane, and Kool G Rap, and is still dominating today don't get confused. I ain't really under 13 years old either, I just went under this since I downloaded this album recently since I heard it was his best album but this ain't that impressive either to me, it ain't nothin' special, every song sounds the same, he's talking like he's the rap god, he needs to check his ego at the door! I think even "14 Shots To The Dome" is better than this one, I was a big fan of the Fugees but I lost some respect for Wyclef when he chose to go on Canibus' side and produce this garbage album but he supposedly used his leftover beats for Canibus so it's all good, lol. btw, LL's verse on "4,3,2,1" has more flow than anything Canibus has done on this album and his whole career put together:
When young sons fantasize of borrowing flows
tell little shorty with the big mouth the bank is closed (yeah, word up)
The symbol on my arm is off limits to challengers
You hold the rusty swords I swing the Excalibur
How dare you step up in my dimension
Your little a** should be somewher cryin on detention
Watch your mouth better yet hold your tongue
I'ma do this s*** for free this time this one's for fun
Blow you to pieces, leave you covered in feces
with one thesis ("LL Cool J is hard")
Every little boy wanna pick up the mic
and try to run with the big boys and live up to the real hype
But that's like pickin up a ball, playin with Mike
Swingin at Ken Griffey or challengin Roy to a fight
Snappin, you ameteur MC's
Don't you know I'm like the Dream Team tourin overseas
For rappers in my circle I'm a deadly disease
Ringmaster, bringin a tiger cub to his knees (uhh)
In the history of rap they've never seen such prominence
Your naive confidence gets crushed by my dominance (word up)
Now let's get back to this mic on my arm
If it ever left my side it'd transform into a time bomb
You don't wanna borrow that, you wanna idolize
And you don't wanna make me mad n*** you wanna socalize
And I'm daring every MC in the game
to play yourself out position, and mention my name
I make a rhyme for every syllable in your name
Go platinum for every time your grimy a** was on the train
Watch your mouth don't ever step out of line
LL Cool J n****, greatest of all time
In conclusion, Canibus is nowhere near the level of LL, Rakim, or Big Daddy Kane, he should shut his mouth and learn to respect the legends of hip-hop that've been around longer than most of you kiddies here have been born. I recommend you to buy any of their albums don't buy this or any of his trash albums, support real hip-hop, one love!

Best album he's dropped!.......2001-10-17
this album was better than his second. his beats aren't as good but the lyrics are blazin' and the second albums beats are worst than the first! but he is a tight lyricist and no one can compare!
WYCLEF SCREWED HIM.......2000-07-18
The only good song on this cd in knockout k.o. besides that, all the beats are weak. the reason is this, u dont get a producer like wyclef who is not a hardcore rapper to do a hardcore rappers beats like canibus. it just wont flow right. dont bother getting this cd. just burn knockout k.o. on the other hand i have already heard the whole new canibus cd and it is off tha hook! dj clue did a good job and i give that 5 stars.
lyrics is dope metaphors is tighter than shakespeare.......1999-10-01
canibus is the answer 2 the replacement of the lyrical king b.i.g. the beats on canibus were not as good as it could be but oh my gosh were does this man get his lyrics from they r deep. my opinion is that canibus is the illest m.c out the and any true hiphop fun will tell u that. from beast of the east 2 100bars tell me when canibus has spit weak lyrics .if u can then u rm a comercial fun so stck 2 r and b.canibus is hear 2 rule 4 eva and yeah slim shady where eva u r u could spit hard lyrics but the difference is canibus can spit 100 bars of total sickness. and all wack m.c,s beware u r on his hit list with an s at the begining of the hit
very solid cd.......1999-07-14
i dont know y everyone is so down on this cd, it is great. its tru that it could be better but still ive never heard anbody rhyme like bus, he could make a cd with no backround music at all and it would still be tight.
COULD BE BETTER!!!!.......1999-05-28
Canibus has really good lyrics, BUT extremely WEAK WEAK WEAK beats. He has to get out of Wyclef's unit and go with someone who has crazy beats, for example: Daz Dillinger, Kurupt, RZA and dare I say Puff Daddy. He would be so much better there than with Wyclef. If you heard the song "Fantastic 4" by DJ Clue, featuring Canibus, Big Pun, Cam'Ron, and Noreaga, Canibus has crazy lyrics, as usual, and then he has the beats to go with it and he sounds so much better. My advice wait until the next album comes out.
