4 out of 5 stars OFFBEAT, BUT GOOD LISTENING!.......2007-02-05

FINALLY WAS ABLE TO GET A COLLECTION OF JACK BLANCHARD & MISTY MORGAN. I'VE ALWAYS ENJOYED THEIR COMICAL SONGS. THIS ONE IS A GOOD MIX OF DIFFERENT STYLES. ENJOYABLE, YET OFFBEAT.

4 out of 5 stars I lke this CD.......2006-04-27

I like this CD. most of all, that it has Tennesee Birdwalk on it, probably that is the best known hit from these two. I must listen to this CD a few more times to determine what I think of the quality of the recordiing. first time around it sounds pretty good.

5 out of 5 stars An album not to be missed.......2005-12-02

This album is a superb compilation of the best of Jack Blanchard & Misty Morgan's songs many of which have been worldwide hit records. I discovered them early in 2005 and I am familiar with many of these songs from their previous albums which I own, but I am delighted to hear the additional songs which I had not heard before. Jack & Misty are uniquely talented Country music artists. Their harmonies are both superb and distinctive with Jack's bass voice blending so well with Misty's rich alto.

Jack is an real artist with words having the ability to 'paint a picture with words'. He composed the majority of the songs they sing and their songs cover the whole range of life experience, as the title of the album so aptly says "Life & Death {and everything else in between}".

Interspersed with the more serious songs are some of their 'crazy' songs which so well illustrate their terrific sense of humour. These include Tennessee Birdwalk, which was a #1 hit and won them a Grammy Nomination in 1970, Humphrey The Camel, Legendary Chicken Fairy, If Eggs Had Legs, the catchy Dum Song and Cows (just listen to the lyrics) :) If you share their sense of humour you will not disappointed.

Other great tracks which relate to life's experiences include The Clock of St. James, You've Got Your Troubles (I've Got Mine), the poignant There Must Be More To Life (Than Growing Old), It Seems Like There Ain't No Going Home, Shadows Of The Leaves, Big Black Bird (Spirit Of My Love), Somewhere In Virginia In The Rain, Changin' Times, Place In Your Mind and Sunset Train. You can easily relate to the experiences in life that inspired these songs.

The two songs new to me, Don't It Make You Want To Go Home and Chapel Hill, are welcome additions which also tug at the heart strings.

Jack & Misty are both accomplished keyboard artists playing much of their own background music - Jack also plays guitars. They are accompanied by some of the best musicians around.

Jack & Misty have to be heard to be appreciated. Their songs just get better with the playing. They have something about them that gives them a "must listen again ... and again .... and again" quality. No how many times I listen to them I just NEVER, ever get tired of hearing them. I just grow to love them more each day.

Many of these songs can be heard on their website [...] ... just in case you need convincing.

Don't miss out on this musical treat.

this album has all of their hit songs.
sound is very good. it's their best live performence.

4 out of 5 stars If you only can pick one Motorhead CD, get this!.......2005-03-31

I bought this after slugging my way through NO REMORSE and NO SLEEP 'TIL HAMMERSMITH. I actually debated on getting it after being somewhat let down by those two CDs. I am SOOOO glad I bought it in spite of those feelings!

This is the stuff metal nirvana is made of. For the opening of Iron Fist until the last note (which is quite sustained) of Overkill, it is a non-stop treat for the ears. Many of the classics are here: Bomber, Ace of Spades, Iron Fist, Metropolis, and the like are all here, but better sounding...even more aggressive than before. Throw in fantastic live versions of Orgasmatron, I'll Sing the Blues, and Going to Brazil and you get pure gold. Not that the other songs are just filler. Oh no, this is a barn-burner from start to stop.

My personal fave is the bridge from Iron Fist to Stay Clean. It may have taken Motorhead 20 years to get to the point where song trasitions are that smooth, but it is worth the effort for the listener.

So, if you can only pick one, get this one.

5 out of 5 stars Motorhead-'Everything Louder Than Everyone Else:Live'(CMC).......2004-11-06

I remember that I never even knew about the release of this 2-CD UNTIL someone in a record store had stuck it in my hand.Needless to say,I was more than delighted.A running time of at least 100 minutes,I never knew Motorhead played THAT long of set.'Everything...' was recorded live in Hamburg,Germany in May,1998.Includes two songs from their(then)latest studio effort 'Snake Bite Love' which are "Take The Blame" and the ass-kicking "Love For Sale".Just about every tune here rocks,as the older ones tend to stand out some.Like "Iron Fist","Metropolis","No Class","Capricorn","Bomber","Overkill" and their signature anthem "Ace Of Spades".A total of twenty-five headbanging cuts!An amazing live record.I haven't heard "The Chase Is Better Than The Catch" or "Orgasmatron" in ages.Recommended to ALL true metal warriors.

5 out of 5 stars Could be a "Best Of..." Album.......2003-12-04

This is an incredible selection to get if you're after a Motorhead "Best Of..." but don't know which of the MANY "Best Of"s to buy. All the songs on here are classics, and Motorhead plays them all loud and aggressive, with almost stuido-like quality! The cheering fans heard just enhances the overall energy of the album, and the sheer power of the band! Recorded WELL into the bands carreer (sometime in the 1990s), if anything this album shows that Lemmy and friends are still able to pump out the same raw power the band did back in the beginning! All of Motorhead's classics are on this album, from old to knew. The ONLY bad thing about this recording, is OVERKILL, my favorite Motorhead song, played WAY too fast, and somehow managed to be the only song on the whole two-disc set that sounds badly recorded (figures). Other than that, this is a top live album which could easily double as a Motorhead "Best Of..." especially of fans who are new to the band! A definate classic by one of Metal's greatest ensembles!

5 out of 5 stars Live Motorhead - Face warts and all.......2003-06-23

If the world faces nuclear disaster, the only surivors will be cockroaches and Lemmy. Lemmy will find the two most talented cockroaches and another strong Motorhead line-up will rock the apocalypse. The most consistent band in rock 'n roll history offers us "Everything Louder Than Everyone Else," and it makes sense that their definitive statement is a live album. Motorhead makes excellent studio albums, but the heart of this band lies on stage and here is the proof. Thank God this current line-up has been together for a good 7 or 8 years now, as it may be Motorhead's best, and let's hope, for Mikkey and Phil's sake, my cockroach prophecy doesn't come to pass.

3 out of 5 stars This man has potential.......2005-07-31

I bought this album on a whim when I was in New York a couple of weeks ago because I had heard about this guy called 'Nobody', and by the sound of it it was my sort of thing. On hearing it I enjoyed it, it has inventive and imaginitive beats and sounds, and creates interesting moods, with a psychedelic edge that sets it apart from many others in the field. However, for one it is quite inconsistent, by that I mean it doesn't 'flow' very well as an album, and I believe this is important (you may not). It also seems sort of unfinished, there are many loops that are repeated for time, with little development, but again this could be something that most listeners would not find to be a problem. Still it's not bad at all, and worth a listen to fans of the genre.

    5 out of 5 stars Nobody "Else".......2005-05-17

Nobody does electronic hip-hop like Nobody.

Okay, seriously, jokes done. The DJ/producer -- also known as Elvin Estrella -- rose from the underground hip-hop revolution of the 1990s, only to become its chameleon. What came next was a stream of soulful jazz/funk/hip-hop, and sunny electronica. And in his third album, Nobody proves that he is just as good as ever.

"And Everything Else" lives up to its name. In his third album, Nobody seems to be exploring the musical niches he had previously left untouched, such as alt-folk, Latin music and psychedelic rock. But he also pays homage to his hip-hop roots, for fans of his previous sounds.

The resulting album is a complete mishmash of styles -- Hispanic rap, bass-heavy big-beats in the style of the Propellerheads, sunny psychedelica, music-box electronica, and even a sad, sweet acoustic solo at the end. Yes, none of the styles entirely fit together, but the catchy beats and odd electronic touches keep them linked.

Nobody's new musical bents are also shown in who he collaborates with. Sure, he collaborates with Prefuse 73 in the proggy-folky "Tori Oshi." But he also joins up with alt-folk chanteuse Mia Doi Todd, who sings sweetly over electronic swooshes and outdoorsy noises. He remixed some of her songs from "Golden State," but this is their first true collaboration.

But perhaps the peak of the album is "What is the Light," a cover of one of the Flaming Lips' best songs. Nobody gives it his own spin, with the same uplifting choruses and orchestral catchiness, but he gives it heavy beats, smooth-as-satin vocals and some stately music-box organ.

"And Everything Else" is good. It's fun. It's dancey, complex, gritty and exuberant one minute, then mellow and sweet. DJ Nobody proves that he can switch musical moods in an instant, being smoky and wry one second, then turning out a trippy outdoorsy song or a folky hoedown. Somebody push this guy into the limelight -- someone so versatile deserves it.

And Nobody knows how to go forward without losing the ability to step back. In "And Everything Else," he revisits some of those old underground roots, with the moments of grit and bombastic rapping, including a wonderfully ominous rap by his old pal Xololanxinco. But he also builds on his second album's sparkling electronica, making it all smoother, brighter and trippier.

DJ Nobody scores again with "And Everything Else," his third collection of electronica and hip-hop. Not a beat is out of place, not a note or sample gone wrong. Outstanding work.

5 out of 5 stars letter from the song writer.......2003-09-16

    Hey guys!

well, yes with any change some will be happy and some will not. Such is the change with this record! Michelle and i will not be writing any longer... sorry, thats just the way it is... it was a nice time and while i enjoyed the rewriting the wrongs album very much i am personaly most happy with nevada bachelors/and new dear john letters material. (just look i gave it 5 stars :-)
Fact is.. it is more who i am. and while i had fun in making rewriting the wrongs... it was a moment in time, a rather sad moment really. and while people do enjoy them moments... they can purchase it now forever on cd ... :-)

but honestly it is the abstract lyrics, and upbeat pop that i personally write and one MUST be true to themselves first and foremost in writing songs, to me that is a must! SO here is the real me... and there is MUCH more coming from where that came from!!!!

ALSO The good news is... while this record is more like the bachelors stuff, is has charted much higher on CMJ then ANY record i have ever been on... up to #34 on the charts nationwide! It is also selling very well... So I am personally very happy with the new direction. It also has had MUCH better reviews then any record i have ever been a part of... so things are rolling along very nicely.

I hope you take the time to give it an ear!!!

    thanks for stopping by!

3 out of 5 stars Liked Rewriting the Wrongs best so far...........2003-09-11

I have been a fan since the days of the Bachelors, but somehow it always fell short for me. I was introduced to The Dear john Letters by my Gal. I fell in love with Rewriting the Wrongs. (still in my top ten of all time favorite local records.) All I can say about Stories is that I miss the writing team of Rob Benson and poet/lyricist Michelle Price
I noticed he used another name on this record in the writing credits, I thought maybe it was a pseudonym for Benson? (It had the same nonsensical lyricism as Benson is known for) Aside from the repeat of the beautiful co-written songs of Unbroken, this could have very well been a Nevada Bachelor's record. Good but not steller. I for one am hoping to hear more from the Benson-Price team and DJL in the future!!

With Beattlesesqe vocals and a jumping rythym section, sir Paul can retire. Its time! Lead singer Robb Benson has hit his stide with this third release with the Dear John Letters. No longer the sad sappy lyrics of the highschool journal keeper variety, Benson has returned to the helm to pilot this well balanced record. Charged with rock pop gems and littered with sweet sad moments, you travel to real places; "the creation myth" co-penned by Seattle sweetheart Amanda Mae relates the age old story of catharsis in freeing what you wish to hold close. I got this record hot off the press because i could not wait! Go see this band or even an intimate solo show, thank you Robb for doing what you do best.

5 out of 5 stars the NEW best of the NorthWest... fantastic pop from Seattle.......2003-08-04

This cd is by far thier best! Take it from a huge fan of
Guided by voices, Wilco, Ben Kweller, and Spoon...
for Indie pop this record flows so well.
It kinda has a beatles feel, but it's raw and gritty
like todays indie pop. Also the art work is just plain RAD!
I sure hope these guys come back to Bellingham soon!
Otherwise i may have to take a trip to back to Seattle
soon to see them in their home town.
