1 out of 5 stars The Decadent Downfall Of Mainstream Hip-Hop .......2006-08-02

I find it utterly disturbing how simple it is for a talented D.J. to round up 3 bafoons and exploit their childish and idiotic personalites all for their dirty dollar; Ripping off the kids droned and purged on the MTV feedbag, and this man Paul Wall probably gets under my skin more then any of them.

Notice his rhymes don't descend any futher than his mouth, his car and his money. What excactly does that say to me about my life or the world around me? Does it reach artistic heights?
Or is it just another jackass looking for his 15 minutes of fame?

And still people eat it up like Chicken N Dumplin's on a cold winter's day

This is excactly whats very wrong with today's hip hop, it's all capitalizing on mindless club music artistic talent is down the toilet infinitely

Stay away from this awful garbage

don't let MTV rob another cent

I remember my friend use to always get Paul Wall's underground stuff with Chamillionaire and share with me. I was pretty impressed with it, then I heard him go mainstream on "Still Tippin" and he shined there. At first I really didn't like "Sittin Sideways" but it grew on me somewhat. Then after climbing all the way up the Billboard charts I decided to check out The People's Champ to see if the hype was necessary.

While I wasn't blown away there are some good songs like "They Don't Know" and "Trill" both featuring Bun-B (the latter song also including BG), "State To State", "I'm A Playa" and "Drive Slow" which was on the Kanye West CD Late Registration. "Internet Goin Nutz" is a little too out there for me but is still a good song.

Everything else is okay except for "Oh Girl", (I know it's a song for the ladies, but this kind of song still doesn't fit his personality) and the overused bling-bling chatter in "Big Ballin". Overall The People's Champ is above average like Chamillionaire's CD and is a worthy pickup especially if you like Houston music.

4 out of 5 stars The People's Champ.......2006-05-11

Ahhh....Paul Wall. It hasn't taken long for his catchy style, and distincitve, Southern drawl to catch on; as well as grills gettin popular again... But onto the album.

Paul Wall's major label debut starts off on FIRE with the DJ Paul and Juicy J produced and featured track "I'm A Playa", which leads right into the re-released "They Don't Know", which was already a Southern favorite off of Paul Wall's Swishahouse solo album, "Chick Magnet." Although I've heard the track a lot living in Texas, they do the listener a favor by replacing Mike Jones (who was pretty decent on the original)with Bun B, who spits with his usual ferocity. The next track, the organ-driven "Ridin Dirty" features Trey Songz and showcases Paul Wall spittin at his best. The recently-MIA ROC MC Freeway stops in on the abover average "State to State", but it's the coupling of TI and Paul Wall on "So Many Diamonds" that meshes together for GA/TX-connected smash. "Smooth Operator" and "Internet Goin Nutz" feature Paul Wall's pimp vernacular, while the Bun B and B.G. assisted "Trill", the laidback "Sippin the Barre", and the "Still Tippin"-esque single "Sittin Sideways" supply the heat for your speakers.

The album loses steam though, after the Kanye West-implanted "Drive Slow" though, as songs like the amateur-ish "March and Step", run-of-the-mill stunt song "Big Ballin" and the horrible chorus on "Sip N Get High", almost make you want to press the skip button.

All in all though, this album satisfies the hype and obviously, Paul Wall is starting to become a household name, making appearances on songs with Jim Jones, Nelly, among others. A definite buy for Southern Rap fans especially, although it's likely that almost anyone who likes rap would find the majority of the album enjoyable.

2 out of 5 stars ahh why why why?.......2006-03-27

paul what were you thinking? you do so good on mixtapes lyricly and on get ya mind correct but on this no effort! ok first im a playa taken from still tippin, internet goiong nutz from still tippin all with corny flows repeatative terms but some songs were good sittin sideways was already rammed into my head like a year before it came out so what does that leave you with? surp sippin bugz bunny? what? chick magnet or how to be a player should have been re released instead of this cd! big ballin was pretty good but still the cd is just not worth listenen to buy the paul wall mixtape its got all the good songs and more the mixtape is way better trust me! he needs some new flows! fo real! oh yeah this tracklist aint right atleast with the cd i got.

1 out of 5 stars My ears are throwing up!.......2006-03-25

Wack rhymes make me puke via my ear canal. That's how wack Paul Wall is. After I have eaten a full meal and listened to Paul wall, My dinner is regurgitated through my ears. I am sooooooooooo tired of these garbage rappers polluting the airwaves with garbage. This guy wouldn't know lyrical content if I slapped him with a Mos Def CD.

I bought this cd not knowing there was a difference in the Peoples Champ albums. This version is terrible. This dj slowed down all of the lyrics to where they do not sound like the artists. I would not reccommend this cd to anyone who has any taste in music.
