Album Description
The energy that John McCutcheon and band bring to this powerful collection of all-new songs is amazing. Marking several milestones (his 50th birthday, 30 years in music and his first CD on a new label), the songs deliver powerfully concise observations on where we've been, where we are and where we are going. Blending rock colorations with acoustic sensibilities, this project has a refreshing and cohesive integrity. TIM O'BRIEN and Australian KERRIANNE COX make guest appearances and John's gift for weaving astute commentary with crisp song writing and instrumental expertise is manifest through out the CD.

Soul Music in the finest sense.......2006-09-08
I have been a John McCutcheon fan for the better part of a decade now--first discovering him not for his children's songs--but for his concert album at Wolf Trap. I have never seen him in concert although I almost did once. But now that I have heard--several times over--this latest CD, I will now find a way to see him. I have to say that I ordered this CD more from the reviews on this site than for any other reason. I was not have a really good month in my own life and so I decided that I probably needed a touch of John McCutcheon to revive my soul a little. And that this album does!!! It is clearly the work of a seasoned songwriter and performer. It is also clearly the work of someone who has a political point of view that he is not afraid to show. There is not a single bad or even mediocre song on this whole album. I am as struck by "Dancing in the Street" as I am by "Not in My Name." I would have to add "When I grow Up" as one of my favorites because at age 60, it is nice to have the insight of someone at age 50 to this whole issue. "Last First Kiss' is a wonderful poem to endearing love and "One in a Million" is both a stunning testament to his mother and a ringing endorsement for every small effort made by every human on the planet to make this a better place for succeeding generations. Inspiring, moving and soul healing--to the highest degree. Give it a listen and see what I can do for your day!!!
NOT IN MY NAME.......2006-08-18
I've been a McCutcheon fan since I was around 12 years old and my parents brought home a tape entitled "What It's Like." I fell in love with his voice, his talent, but most of all his powerful lyrics. This album is a perfect example of the lively, potent, and emotional touch of McCutcheon's music. However, of all the McCutcheon songs I know (and believe me, I know plenty) the anthem "Not in My Name" speaks to my heart like no other protest song ever has. In this war when all sides are convinced that a higher power is on their side, the lyric "I said it in the Bible, in the Torah and in the Koran/what part of 'love your neighbor' don't you people understand" says it all for me. Purchasing this or any John McCutcheon album will be the best decision you've ever made regarding your CD collection.
Folk Music is Alive and Well.......2003-01-17
I just stumbled across John MCutcheon a few weeks ago, and now I wished I'd found his music years ago. This album is simply awesome with its music and its messages. Peace, justice, and tolerance issues are now important than ever and John's songs are just great for restoring some hope for the future. His music is in the tradition of Guthrie, Seeger, and Dylan. There are still a few of us around who like music that touches our souls and uplifts our spirits. I guarantee you'll love this album and be playing its songs over and over. I will see John in concert for the first time in a few weeks, and I can't wait.

Don`t sleep on this!.......2006-04-20
Shyheim came back fresh out of prison to release this amazing set of tracks. If you pay attention to the lyrics, you will find the determination of a young gun who went through a great deal of deep thinking on the inside, and has determined to not repeat his mistakes. This is one of the best releases of the past few years. If you like lyrics in Hip-Hop, go and cop this. The beats are very nice too. Next time Shyheim may reach his maturity.
ehh....so much potential.......2005-07-14
Shyheim, in my opinion has one good album, and it was never released in the U.S. That being "Manchild". A real coming of age hardcore album. When I saw this in the store I was skeptical, but I tried it anyway. What I heard was a hungry MC with no background to tell his story. Shyheim come on point lyrically on all the songs, but the beats suffer from being overly simplistic and repetitive. There are a couple songs produced by RZA and one by Bars and Hooks, the album is a good jump off point for his new label, but he has to keep the lyrics in check. Song #2 is the bomb, I thought I was getting something hype and out of this world. But instead I got a very mature album from Shyheim, not what I was expecting, but its okay.
Good 4th Solo.......2005-07-14
After a stint in the slammer and 5 years off Shyheim is back, not as good as "Manchild" but still a solid 4 star album. After being in the game for 11 years (since the age of 13) he shows he still has what it takes to deliver the goods. As usual with his stuff, you get good lyrics, some deep songs, and some straight gangsta/hustlin tales. It has 16 songs, 4 are ok, 12 are good. The last half of the albums is very good, the first half is slightly above average. Guests rap on about half of the songs, but you still get a good deal of the Ruggid Child. Production is pretty good, Booda & J Pelligrino each do 3, RZA, & Gooch each do 2, and S Mason, Calogero, Easy Mo Bee, Bars & Hooks, Arizona Slim, Jwells all do 1. A good album to have for fans of the Wu.

Glad Shy is finally back.......2005-03-29
The greatest story never told is a great ablum from start to finish. Shyhiem is one of the most underappreciated rappers in the game today. I wish the wu would put him on some more of their stuff. I reall think that if you have heard shyheim in the past or are a fan of the wu youll really enjoy this album. RZA does do some of the producion and la the dark man appears also. WU Tang Forever??? Get this wu tang clan back in the studio and make an album
