FANTASTIC!!!!.......2005-09-16
This is one of the funniest things I have heard since the Blue Collar Boys. I feel certain that this album WILL go aluminum. LOL
The comic that poseur Foxworthy would like to be.......2002-09-04
I'm a redneck.
So sue me.
But Tim Wilson is _our_ funny guy, who doesn't have to joke about dogs under the porch or recycle the same "You might be..." stuff that ain't funny the first time around and doesn't improve a'tall with age. Instead he gives us the lying uncle from _his_ family who's a whole like the one we grew up with, the brother-in-law from hell we put up with at Thanksgiving (who sometimes doesn't go away till after Xmas).
Tim Wilson is brilliant and pokes fun at anything that strikes him as funny, and makes jokes about things I never thought I'd hear a comedian talk about. Who else has a story about that lying uncle and Rosa Parks?
Only reason I gave this album four stars rather than five is some {guy} has censored it, bleeping words I've known since I was five or six years old (and I'm not talking about the big "F" one).
Buy it anyway, listen to "Chucky Cheese Hell" and remember the last time you ate really bad pizza while the kids went through thirty bucks in quarters.
If you don't laugh out loud, you might be a Jeff Foxworthy fan.

Thank Goodness ITS NOT UNCLE STEVIE.......2006-08-16
Its amazing how one release BECOMES THE ULTIMATE BENCHMARK to compare subsequent releases by!!?? Yeah. ALONG TOGETHER IS A SUPERB COLLECTION of distinct melodies and songs...BUT SO IS is his follow ups. Especially on this one....Live meant at ONE TIME...well...not post production bloated with STUDIO punch-ins, redone vocal passages, added instruments, and the whatever else not needed but ESSENTIALLY RENDERED to 'sweeten' its supposed soulessness!!!
Mr. Mason dont need any of that bulloney as the guy has da goods to delivery no matter the circumstance.
We've seen him numerous times over the years and this 2 record set is a terrific representation of the verve and expertise he can craft, whether in an electric setting or soley acoustic.
You get the best of both in this solidly packed wall to wall venture!!!
Hey this beats Dear Mr. Fantasy Paper Sun or any of those posturing pseudo-intellect pretenses created by the Arc of The Diver Man hisself. (I mean isnt a simpleton overwrought piano riff such as the one that dominates Low Spark for almost 13 minutes a little lame, doncha think? I wont go into the BLIND FAITH fiasco either!!
With that being said, stay with the man and his music who says it the best. What's wrong with a tune that is straightforward, states a strong hook, and can get you to sing on just about every one of these live TRACKS!!!
Enjoy!!!!
just a tad late.......2006-01-20
I'm probably as big a Dave Mason fan as they come, although I must confess that I've only caught him in concert on one occasion, and by happenstance that occasion was in the same year as this double-live disc was recorded, 1976. I don't recall a whole lot about the show since I was sitting near the crest of the Pine Knob Music Theatre lawn, the muddiest lawn I ever had the displeasure to sit on, trying my best to stay dry in a driving, cold rainstorm. Dave was accompanied by Jim Krueger on second lead guitar, a fixture in Dave Mason excursions since 1974, bassist Gerald Johnson, a 1970's fixture in the Steve Miller Band, keyboardist Mike Finnigan, well-known for his work with Crosby, Stills, and Nash, and journeyman drummer Rick Jaeger. It's a solid line-up that delivers smooth, top-notch performances, which ironically is part of the problem.
'Certified Live' includes a setlist that, for the most part, has become the Dave Mason standard. Regulars on the list include 'Feelin'Alright', 'Pearly Queen', 'Show Me Some Affection', 'All Along the Watchtower' (a Jimi Hendrix tune, of course, but one Mason has all but adopted as his own), a cover of the Eagles 'Take It To the Limit', 'Every Woman', 'World In Changes', 'Look At You, Look At Me', a cover of Sam Cooke's 'Bring It On Home To Me', and 'Only You Know and I Know'. Peruse Dave's other live CD's or video releases, and you'll find a healthy number of these same tracks are included. Don't get me wrong, they're all fine songs, but why hasn't Dave offered a live version of 'Waiting On You', one of the most appealing tracks from his quintessential 1969 album 'Alone Together'? How about 'Split Coconut', or 'To Be Free', the lead track from his 'Headkeeper' disc? I'd just like to hear something unusual! To his credit, Dave does offer a rendition of Jimmy Oden's 'Goin' Down Slow', a worthy blues track, and 'Give Me a Reason Why', a catchy acoustic number from the 'Split Coconut' disc, but for a disc that was originally a two-disc vinyl album, that's not a whole lot of originality.
Add to this the fact that 1976 was not a sterling year for music, with the psychedelic era fading (even for bands that continued successful such as Pink Floyd) and disco and New Wave music knocking on the door, the dominant trends were leaving Mason's style of music in the bargain bin at Peaches. Unfortunately, artists such as Dave Mason tried adapting their music to the popular trends, and so his trademark wah-pedal guitar is often relegated to window dressing, or omitted all together. As noted earlier, Dave is supported by a fine band, but it's all just too crisp and smooth. A lot of this music needs to be settled in an emotional context rather than technical precision, but it's the latter that comes to the fore. If you're really seeking the best live renditions of Dave's music, check out 'Pearly Queen', 'World In Changes', and 'Feelin' Alright' from the 'Headkeeper' disc (recently remastered), 'Sad and Deep As You' (Chris Wood's flute accompaniment is just incredible on this track) and 'Gimme Some Lovin' from 'Welcome To the Canteen', and 'Only You Know and I Know' and 'All Along the Watchtower' from 1999's '40,000 Headmen Tour'.
'Certified Live' is a difficult disc to find on CD, and you're likely to shell out close to $20 for a decent copy. The Japanese import version I used for this review did come complete with a lyrics sheet (in Japanese and English), and a glossy color booklet with several nice photographs of Dave and the band. Too bad it wasn't recorded a few years earlier when Dave and his music were still on top.

A step up from what he usually gives you.......2006-11-09
Standout tracks:LOST SOULS, TREAT ME LIKE(its a sign of the times when Jada busts a questionable verse), GANGSTA WALK, 2 FINGERS(this beat sounds like J-kwon's Tipsy), ON EVERYTHING(killer collabo with Twista), CERTIFIED, BLOODY WAR, RIDIN(dope match up with Dead Prez and Talib Kweli despite what you brokeback mountaineers think!), X-ED etc. Filler: Play(cheap knockoff of ying yang twins's Wait), Aint got nothing(Majic and Lil Boosie are nothing to brag about), Take your(with this wack track you can have her!) and Westside(I love the west coast but this weak ode to them is not going to cut it). Bottom Line: David Banner's third album is a definite step up from his first two albums. He has some gems here and there and his verses(as bipolar as they sound) are not bad. He always gave you some gems in his other albums but they are not as well put together as this one. A certified improvement indeed.
I guess that makes talib kweli trash too?.......2006-08-28
Its funny how people stereotype everything into one cluster. Yeah i don't like some southern rappers. Talking about grills and stuff the i dont actually remember banner talking about such things maybe i missed it or something.Yet I know some underground rappers like K-rino that have more than enough lyrics to pass around. See if you actually hear all the tracks and not judge stuff by a single video you wont know much. Anyways I like this cd David banner seems to keep on getting better his rhymes and lyric keep on being those of a materialistic person if someone can. My favorite stand out track in this cd are
Gangsta Walk
Ridin'
Crossroads
This album seems to be a greater improvement from his first one the only thing is that David banner curses too much. Some people with sensitive feelings might get hurt...
gangsta Walk!.......2006-08-26
David Banner come sout hard and strong on certfifed with songs like Bloody War f/ BG, and Ridin w/ Talib Kweli, and Dead Prez. he then gets it crunk with songs like Gangsta Walk f/ Three 6 Mafia, 8Ball and MJG, and Marcus and The Lil Jon produced Treat me Like f/ jadakiss. His lyrics can be weak at times but is still good.
Good lord.......2006-07-30
What happened to lyricism. I remember back in the days if you had know skill and couldn't rock a party, you got booed off stage. Now all you gotta do is call every chick a b**** and every dude a n***** and you sellin records like crazy. Now I remember NWA used to that, but they had lots of points to get across. Most of these dudes have nothin to say at all. The essence of hip hop is non existent with this trash. I swear I cant believe whats being passed for hip hop these days. Guys like him, D4L, Franchize boys, Khia, Trina and a few more southern rappers set black people back like 2 centuries. If it wasnt for other people playing these albums around me, I would'nt even know most of these crackheads exist.
A Certified Improvement (3.5 stars).......2006-06-22
Believe it or not, David Banner is one of my favorite southern rappers to ever hit the rap scene. I haven't heard MTA2: Baptized In Dirty Water yet, but what weighed his first album, Mississippi The Album down was wack guest appearances, and not enough of David Banner to actually show off his rhyme skills. This album also has a lot of guest appearances, but Banner has enough experience to keep up with them this time around. Also, he didn't do as much production on this album as the last couple, but it still works out well.
This album Certified would have the same amout of guests in his first album, but these are more popular and have a little more experience than those no names on there. The first single "Ain't Got Nothin" had a nice appearance from Magic (formally part of No Limit), and although Lil Boozie verse was wack, it didn't matter because the song was good enough to keep you in tuned. Other notable guest appearances are Twista on the song "On Everything" and former Cash Money member B.G. on "Bloody War". Singer Sky who appeared on the last couple of albums comes to sing "Lost Souls" and "My Life" which doesn't appeal to some people, but I enjoyed them. Sky also does the hook to "Westside" where David Banner names all the popular rappers from the West Coast which is comes off decent but not as appealing as the first two songs.
Now David Banner has a few sexually explicit songs that can be hits or misses. The second single "Play" produced by Mr. Collipark (yes people, the same person who produced The Ying Yang Twins song "Wait (The Whisper Song)", you wonder why it sounds the same) would come off nice as David Banner softly recites his verses, but you've probably heard this track already. The very next track "F***ing" ("Touching" for you virgin eared people) features production and vocals from Jazze Pha. I'm not a a Jazze Pha fan, but as explicit as this song is with his soft tone production, it does quite a good job.
Many reviewers are complaing about the song "Ridin" featuring M-1 and Talib Kweli as being too racial. Many of those people approach this song only in one direction and never look past the racial slurs that are tossed, as the song is about how the south really was (especially in Mississippi) way before our times. If anything, IT'S JUST A SONG PEOPLE, quit crying!
Although David Banner has improved with this album, there are some lack luster songs on this also. "Thinking Of You" that features Case, is slighly weighed down by David Banner's scratchy voice, even though the lyrics are good. "Take Your" featuring Too Short and Bun B sounds kind of forced, especially Too Shorts verse. "X-ed" and "Crossroads" are other fillers that I have no care for either.
Overall, a big improvement by David Banner from when he debuted in 2003. Many people like him for his production, but this time, he doesn't produce most of the tracks and lets other producers sit behind the boards on this one comming off in a good way (not saying he's a bad producer). I recommend this to fans of southern music who are also looking for some lyrical content also. Despite the few flaws, this album is far from being Certified as a drink coaster.

Remastered version of the Classic Crystal album.......2003-03-20
These hits from Crystal's United Artists tenure (1975 - 1979) are what made her a star. Over twenty years later, they hold up remarkably well. The jewel of course is her signature hit, the bluesy "Don't It Make My Brown Eyes," which crossed over to # 2 pop, while my personal favorite is the spine-tingling "Talkin' In Your Sleep." The gentle toe-tapper "Somebody Loves You" was the recording that made me first fall in love with Crystal's voice while the rollicking "Why Have You Left The One You Left Me For" has a hook that 24 years later is still stuck in my head! The lovely "When I Dream" may be Crystal's most heartfelt recording with "I'll Get Over You" her most economically effective (sparsely produced yet emotion-inducing).
I give this collection five stars because they are all great recordings and it is very thematically varied, but I wish Capitol would get with it and put out a United Artists retrospective with more tracks (Classic Crystal includes the same 10 tracks - although this version is remastered - while the Madacy Best Of just substitutes "Wrong Road Again" with "Your Old Cold Shoulder"). Let's get "Your Old Cold Shoulder," "Your Kisses Will" "Karneval," "One More Time For Mexico," and "Heart Mender," (among others) added on so we can enjoy all of Crystal's United Artists singles on one cd!

Pretty good.......2003-12-01
For one thing I love the nitty gritty dirt band! My favorite song is Fishing in the Dark. I havent heard many of these songs yet but they have some pretty sweet sounding titles. I was looking for a rock influenced country album being a country girl myself and I think I found it.I rate it four cause Fishin' in the dark is a quality song! More songs on the disk could have been nice.

Though guitarist Duane Jarvis established his alterna-twang credentials as sideman for the likes of Lucinda Williams and Rosie Flores, his own brand of country echoes the influence of British Invasion rock. The album-opening title track recalls the reedy tunefulness of the Kinks' Ray Davies, while "Love Sometimes" (with harmonies from cowriter Joy Lynn White) and other cuts find Jarvis riffing like the Rolling Stones' Keith Richards. Additionally highlighting the 13-cut collection are two songs written with Williams (including "Still I Long for Your Kiss," which she previously recorded for Car Wheels on a Gravel Road), the Tex-Mex cantina balladry of "Forgive the Fool," and the soulful underpinnings of "Intoxicate Me." Throughout, Jarvis emphasizes the strength of his songcraft rather than his instrumental chops. --Don McLeese

Little of this, little of that.......2001-09-21
Duane Jarvis' new album has something for everyone, from Muscle Shoals soul and horns to country kickers, well crafted songs and excellent playing. It's like a smorgasbord of all types of great American music.
Great Americana Singer/Songwriter.......2001-09-19
Recording for this CD was financed by the artist and originally released in Europe only on Blue Buffalo Records. Critical acclaim in Europe, including a 4 star rating in the German edition of Rolling Stone prompted the release of this CD by Missouri based Slewfoot Records.
One of the premier guitarists in Nashville, Duane has previously been known more for who he has played with (Lucinda Williams, Divinyls, John Prine, Greg Trooper, Dwight Yoakum) than for his song writing. This release establishes that he's also a world class songwriter. All songs are written or co-written by Jarvis. Co-writers include Lucinda Williams, Kevin Bowe (Shannon Curfman, Jonny Lang, Kenny Wayne Shepard), Joy Lynn White, and Gwil Owen (Toni Price).
The highlight of the album might be Duane's version of `Still I Long for Your Kiss'. Originally on co-writer Lucinda William's Grammy winning album `Car Wheels on a Gravel Road', this song retains the bittersweet quality of the original, yet seems to hold out more hope for the future.
`Sad Blue Year' provides a different take on the year 1999. "1999 was supposed to be a celebration/ That's what The Artist said/ I never got the invitation"
Reminiscent of Bonnie Raitt's more rock oriented songs, "Love Sometimes" is an upbeat song about the wide range of feelings that love can cause.
Other songs include the Tex-Mex "Forgive the Fool" and the country twang of "Broke Not Busted". This CD should be a must have for any fan of alt-country or Americana music.

Some people don't like the sound that comes from the dirty south. However, if you do, or you don't know but would like to find out, you should check the chilled out art on this joint. Lil' Raz. helps define the phrase "Soldier for Christ".
