I wanted to purchase this cd when it first came out but I procastinated and I was sorry because it is an excellent cd. I especially love all of the jazz rendentions of Luther's compositions. I listen to this cd almost every day. I loved Luther singing the songs and now I love listening to the music.

Who could ever forget such classic songs such as "The Groove Line","Always and Forever",Eyeballin', and "Boogie Nights"? This band truly covered the R&B charts with these top hits, and made their mark in the annals of the music world. These songs have stood the test of time and are still very popular today as they were back then. One of the things the listener will find is the band was very well rounded and was very diverse in their musical talents. From start to finish,this album will definately get your hands clapping and your toes tapping.

How can you miss with songs like Grooveline, Boogie Nights and Always and Forever?!?! Heatwave generated some of their own heat in the 80's and this compilation CD captures the best of their talents.

Heatwave Brought The Heat.......2006-10-17

Heatwave were the thang during the late '70s. Dance music was at it's height and "The Groove Line" flew up the charts. It became one of their biggest hits and one of the biggest records that year. You couldn't go to a club without hearing "The Groove Line" or "Boogie Nights". Of course they had more singles outside their dance cuts. "Always & Forever" one of their most enduring hits ever. The song became a major popular hit among R&B fans. It's a out the box classic slowjam and many people have later used the record for their weddings. "Mind Blowing Decisions" is one of their smoothest singles and "Ain't No Half Steppin" became a popular radio aired track during it's album release and it has also been used as a standard for Hip-Hop sampling. Get the album if your a fan of old school love songs with meaningful lyrics great singing or dance music but if you're just looking for some great music, this album is good for any music collection.

Sometimes a simple voice can carry the day. I listened to this album every day for months when it came out in 1987, and into Summer 1988. Randy Travis was the "IT" guy, guest starring on late night TV and breathing new life into country music. I was a huge fan, and am still a huge fan. His voice is unique and a gift. This album is superb,natural country music. Delightful!

Since Vandross is an excellent, peerless contemporary R&B vocalist, this is an excellent opportunity for him to shine, and he does, particularly on "A House Is Not a Home," "Anyone Who Had a Heart," "Going Out of My Head" and "I (Who Have Nothing)."Vandross shines throughout the entire album, making it another treasure in his catalog. It would have been nice to hear Luther cover some of the modern songs that were big at that like Dru Hill's Beauty or Jagged Edge's Gotta Be, it's still a great collection.

This is probably one of my most treasured CD's of all time. Words just cannot describe the incredible talent this man had, and news of his untimely death was devastating. However, what he has left behind is truly amazing. Just to name a few of the songs from this CD; A House is not a Home, incredible!!!, Circles, amazing!!, I who have nothing (the duet), mesmirizing!!

And one of my favorites is Always and Forever! I hated this song years ago, when it was done by Heatwave (nothing against the group of course), but when Luther sang his rendition of it, it blew me away, and I have loved it ever since.

Luther's talent really amazed me! His voice, and the way he performed a song, took your thoughts and feelings to a whole other dimension. Places you never thought your mind could go, it went. Whatever your mood, Luther had a song for it.

You will be missed Luther. Your work is apparently done here on this earth, and may you now rest in peace, and thank you, for sharing your incredible talent with us all!!!!!

Always & Forever is a classic CD and I know its loved by many al the songs on the Cd is great. My favorite is Always & Forever. Luther is the Best Artist/songwriter that ever walked the surface of this earth. I won't to tell Luther and all of his family that he is in my pryers and will stay there until he fully recovers. LUTHER SURE LOOKED DIFFERENT BACK IN THE EARLY DAYS..........2007-03-26

... having worked for a prominent cosmetic surgeon, I tend to spot facial details that most people miss... for instance, Luther's ears here appear to be quite close to his head, while photos in more recent years make them appear to be more prominent... also, he had a more masculine look to his face here, but later in his career he appeared far more feminine-looking... these are just observations, not criticisms - none of this changes the fact that he was an awesome vocalist who, like Prince, wore many hats in the recording of his albums, serving as singer-songwriter-arranger-producer, although I would have loved to hear him pair up with Quincy Jones at least once just to see what they could have come up with together.

Luther Forever And Always.......2007-03-25

'Forever,For Always,For Love' is Luther's critical sophmore release from 1982.Luther Vandross is very much going out of his way to fasion a grand soul epic with this release where even the uptempo songs have a very cinematic feel to them.All eight of these longish songs are wonderful,beautiful and hoplessly romantic as always.My favorites are of course "Bad Boy/Having A Party",'You're The Sweetest One" and "She Gives Love Back",all of which are peppy dance tunes with great hooks and each one had an elegant house party atmosphere.The title cut is very beautiful and also extrodinarily melodramatic.And Luther REALLY lets his soul bare on "Since I Lost My Baby".As opposed to David Ruffin's more tortured tone on the original Luther gives the song a lot more meloncaughly and sadness.On the album cover Luther is leaning cowly up at you almost as if to say "come inside because I've got some great stories to tell".And this is an inviting album-Luther shares his musical and lyrical concepts of love and human relationships here and all the RSVP's are sent out.As always he makes the best use of Marcus Miller as writing partner and crucial bassist and keeps his links strong to classic R&B.This creamy smooth album stands somewhat in contrast to the slightly more groove oriented sounds of Never Too Much and Busy Body which this is sandwiched between but certainly being in the middle can be a wonderful advantage.

I just purchase this CD a couple years ago. In I want to get some of Luther earlier recordings. He has a voice the melts with not only his lyrics he is so in sync with the lyrics and his voice So Very, Very Richly compliments his songs, lyrics. What Amazing Talent. Every song from Bad Boy/Having a Party to Since I Lost My Baby are so Rich of his Velvet voice you actually touch his emotions and his delivery of each of his song. His Voice is what reachs so deep within your soul and spirit. I can't say enough about Luther Vandross. With his so very Recent Passing this commentary of this songs for me is so overdue from me. I really Admired his Talent and His Dreams. He voice will be so missed. The one thing I regret is that I never got to see Luther Vandros live I really regret that but his music lives on. Luther's sophomore release is every bit as exceptional as his debut outing, which was a tour de force itself. Luther was on his way to proving that he was finest male vocalist of the eighties, and this highly consistent, tightly-woven recording showcases his other considerable talents as well. The bravura medley of "Bad Boy" and "Having A Party" was the first track to prove that Luther has an undeniable gift for merging two seemingly different compositions, and actually making it work seamlessly. Luther's amazing versatile is really evident on this album, where he proves he can master nearly any emotion from the optimism of the delightful "She Loves Me Back," to the desperation of the intense "Promise Me."

No matter the tempo, Luther always instinctively knows how to interpret a song. The loosely-rendered title track, in particular, could have been a mess in the hands of a less capable performer, but the song is nothing less than stunning when graced with Luther's golden timbre and effortless phrasing.. Why the hate.......2007-04-22

This album is simply what it is, a well done cover album. Silk has done all of these tracks justice. No one is suggesting that they are as good as the originals nor will they ever replace the original versions but this is a good sidestep to hear classic tunes with a different spin. Too many reviewers here are acting as if by covering Always and Forever it will make Heatwave's version go away. That will NEVER happen so enjoy this for what it is and stop acting as if a crime has been committed. Boys II Men did a cover album (Throwback)and the earth is still spinning. Prince even covered the Stlystics. I'm just glad Silk is still out there and look forward to their next work, cover album or not.

A bad Five Heartbeats comeback............2007-02-01

I must admmit, I was really excited to hear good old Silk from the 90's come back (kind of like the new Boys 2 Men), however, once I heard the first track.....I became very disappointed.

The good thing about classic R&B is that they are timeless and really don't need other renditions, especially bad ones. So, Silk should have known better, that's just like Willy Hong making recreating "Freak Me"---BAD, BAD, BAD.

Like my husband said...someone should start a class action suit against Silk for this album.

I just purchased Always and Forever by Silk. These brothers are acting up! The harmony is second to none. I have been down with Silk since day one. This album is the best. The remake of Adore and Secret Garden is the jam. Silk takes you back to a time when you used to be able to turn on the radio and people could REALLY sing. Get this in your collection. Simply a wrong idea.......2006-12-31

My bad evaluation isn't disrespectful for Silk's vocal skills, already shown in their previous efforts. It's a personal opinion related to the bad idea to release a whole "cover" album. I must confess that i'm a bit tired to hear covers and samples of old songs, and i really crave to hear "original" sounds. The concept behind a disk like this is another evidence of how much we're currently far from the excellent level of '90 R&B (how a previous reviewer rightly said).
Just to give an example, i'm wondering about the producer's choice to make a cover of a song like "Secret Garden"! It's totally unfair, in my opinion, to ask to someone else to perform a tune previously blessed by the wonderful (and unique) voices of artists like Barry White and James Ingram...this comparison can be too tough for everyone, and Silk's members deserve the opportunity to evolve their own musical style in a more personal direction.

I never write CD reviews but this one was too hot not to.. I happened to see it in Walmart tonight and noticed the cool track list. They do Secret Garden and most all the others justice. Great performance from these guys. Grab the Love Session CD to hear the best cover they've ever done, "Ebony Eyes".

I just love this album. I am a wedding minister and many couples ask me about music for their ceremony. I am happy to recommend they buy this album for a wonderful selection of wedding music both traditional and contemporary performed by orchestras, keyboardists, harpists and others including a lovely soprano. One disc is traditional wedding selections and the other is contemporary. The selections are arranged in the order of a ceremony with choices for each part of the ceremony. The CD would be appropriate to use in a wedding if live music is not planned. I plan to add a link to this site from my website just so couples can check this album out for themselves.

I've never listened to Heatwave before other that the few songs I heard on the radio. So, when I picked this album up in my local library, I was surprised to hear how smooth and mellow the songs were. This album is as cool as they come. And, with one of my favorite songs, "Groove Line", this album is the joint. GROOVY, JACK!!!!!!

Probably the Best Heatwave Album for Casual Fans.......2001-02-28

There probably aren't too many die-hard Heatwave fans out there - probably a lot more just like a few songs by them, and would like to get them on CD. If that's you, this is your best bet. All three of their big hits - "Always and Forever", "Boogie Nights" and my favorite "Groove Line" - are here, along with seven lesser-known slices of late-70's pop. The only other ballad, "Happiness Togetherness", is all right, but suffers from an unwieldly chorus sang too many times. "Gangster of the Groove" was rather uninteresting, and I found the rather catchy number "Eyeballin'" harder to listen to than I should've - must be that weird title! The songs get better as the album goes along. "Send Out for the Sunshine" has good never-say-die lyrics; I'll have to throw it on next time I have a lousy day to get through. "Posin' 'til Closin'" is a light-hearted fun look at various disco denizens. "The Big Guns" as an (almost) instrumental can be taken any way you want it to, but it's catchy. And for less than six bucks?! Unless you're a completist, an album purist, or a millionaire, this is the one you'll want.

Mr cortez needs to check his bacon cuz with a name like that and heritage where it came from you need to go back to spain crackajack.

Finally! Real Chicano rap w/ that West Coast Flavor!!.......2004-11-26

Being a music fan, I know when I hear great Hip-Hop, Gangster Rap and Latinos at the mix. Too many Latino/Chicano rappers nowadays, however, can't cut it--with the exception of a few, of course--which is one reason out of many why their gangsta' rap doesn't go mainstream like that of NWA, Westside Connection or the old Death Row crew, for instance. There are a couple of Hispanic rappers that have reached mainstream glory; Kid Frost, Delinquent Habits, Cypress Hill, Beatnuts, Baby Bash, Big Pun, Fat Joe, Pitbull and Daddy Yankee. El Dyablo is another Ese who has skills but hasn't quite made it--not yet, anyways.

When it comes to Mr. Capone-E, he really delivers beautifully on this LP, though with minor problems at times. His rapping style is tolerable, and his beats are superb with that famous West Coast flavor we all love so much. His producer deserves most of the credit, however; Fingazz is the mastermind and backbone behind this record. In Nate Dogg's own words, "Nobody does it better."

Although the entire album is unbelievably good from track 1 to the end, go ahead and hit the "repeat" on these ones:

There's been a lot of speculation that Mr. Capone-E isn't exactly Mexican, which leads me to ask the question: What is Mexican? Although born Pakistani by ethnicity, he was raised in the crime-infested-poverty-stricken ghetto along side Mexicans. He grew up gangbanging with the "bad element" we now call homies. In fact, his speech pattern and accent is that of a Bato Cholo (Chicano gang banger), and he dresses and looks exactly like them. He's been Mexicanized, so to speak (if such a word exists). They have adopted him with open arms and he has gladly embraced their warmth.

Bottom line--if you're looking for great Latino/Chicano rap to listen to while you're in your automobile or just having a ghetto-fabulous party, you'll surely find it here in Mr. Capone-E's "Always and Forever" album. Expect nothing less from producer Fingazz. Other records worth checking out are: "A Soldier's Story" by Mr. Capone-E and "Ryder Muzic" by Mr. Criminal. Again, Nate Dogg is featured in both of these albums--and you know that whatever this man spits on turns into gold.
