Juve the Great [Explicit Lyrics]

Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com
Cash Money Records made it cool (or maybe not) for rappers to pen endless rhymes about the jewelry and Jacuzzis they own. Truth is, however, when Juvenile left Cash Money they lost their best emcee. Juve the Great, a solid, even listen, marks his return to the Cash Money fold, and that means a reunion with Mannie Fresh's tailor-made synthesizer-laden beats. On "In My Life," Fresh's hook ("I'ma buy cars, I'ma get clothes, I'ma rock jewels…") complements Juvenile's husky New Orleans drawl without even trying. Art awkwardly imitates life on "It Ain't Mines," on which Juvenile--who's undergoing a real-life paternity-test drama--casts suspicion on the legitimacy of some such declarations. While there's a certain sameness to this and past albums as far as 'hood-centric subject matter and vocal delivery, Juvenile does go out and experiment with beats from up-and-comers such as Griz, Ad Future, and Slice T, with mixed results. There are no immediate club anthems here, but "Bounce Back" does showcase his inimitable gift for relaying realistic tales of his Magnolia Projects ascent--from street-corner hustler to acclaimed emcee and caring father--without it sounding clichéd. --Dalton Higgins

1 out of 5 stars Dissapointing--skip this.......2007-08-01

juve is one of my fave rappers, but this sounds eclectic, unneccersarily violent and does not have any hits. the songs just aren't strong enough. it seems like he rushed this album and didn't know what he wanted to do musically. the only thing listenable is definitely "slow motion." it has a soft, melodic sound that you wouldn't expect from Juve or a rapper, but it works (seems like genius only struck them once in the studio when they came up with this song), and "it ain't mines." it is an interesting song. other than those 2, everything else sounds tired.

4 out of 5 stars Juvenile - Juve The Great.......2006-01-03

I thought was a decent cd for being a southern cd. Liked the production alot on this album. The lyrics werent all that bad, they were alright, at least he was tellin stories of things. "Slow Motion" was the only song that wasnt that great. But overall Juvenile kept it real on this album. I dont know how good this one is compared to his other albums though. But I liked this, if your a fan of southern music you should like this one!!

4 out of 5 stars Great Return.......2005-09-07

After a brief absence from Cash Money Records,
Juvenile rejoined to release his latest solo release
entitled Juve The Great. The "Intro" led off this
17-track LP with a funk feel with guitar and horns to
match. He returns strong over a Mannie Fresh
multi-synthesizer and bass driven track for a
direction indicator for this album on "In My Life".
With more money, more problems as a given, "It Ain't
Mines" is a song about true stories of being falsely
accused of impregnating a woman. "Bounce Back"
featuring Baby is a good example of how Juvenile needs
to regain his position in the industry and how he
needs to overcome adversity as did the horn fueled
"Lil' Daddy". For a more deep rooted, southern track
"Down South Posted" featuring Skip & Wacko provided a
more universal feel to the norm. "Numb Numb" has a
Jamaican, dark groove to it that makes this a stand
out for the affects of taking drugs he has sold. For
the more commercial appeal, "F****n' With Me"
featuring Skip & Wacko could safely broaden his fan
base without compromising his core fans. This album
was interestingly held down by the strings of the
guitars with the more Spanish feel "Cock It" and even
accompanied by the horn section on the popular "Slow
Motion" featuring the late Magnolia Slim. Overall
Juvenile is better with Cash Money than without, hence
the album title of a great return.

5 out of 5 stars Truely One Of His Classics.......2005-07-18

Juvie Almost fell off the map when he left cashmoney and i even like the fact that he left cashmoney, but all Juvie needs is Mannie Fresh beats and he will be successful in what ever he does. As for the Album "Instant Classic" In my life, Throw up a U, slow motion, and to hoes are for everbody... this is one Juvies greatest albums. I garentee it, a platinium record says it for itself....

4 out of 5 stars pretty good cd.......2005-06-27

If you haven't listened to Juvenile's previous CD's, you're out of the know. Start off with this one of course, but make sure to get a hold of his other discs. Ya really can't be let down with Juvenile. Yeah, Cash Money is corny, but don't let that stop ya from enjoyin Juvi.

4 out of 5 stars Throwed!!.......2004-06-14

I just wanted to say that this cd is hott and also point something out to the guy that said "the music sounds like it is running on slow mode" on the review. well off course it sounds slow it's screwed and chopped stupid.. screwed is also known as
slowed. Anyway get this cd if you're into screwed rap.

1 out of 5 stars This CD is Screwed & Chopped!.......2004-06-08

My first thought is that the original album was pretty good so my attitude towards this remix was optimistic; when you're used to some decent mixing you can tolerate almost anything. I listen to and purchase a lot of mixed albums but this is by far the worst mix I have ever heard- from the first title to the last, the music sounds like it is running on slow mode, it took me a few minutes to realize that this was actually the mix rather than a bad dup of the CD. I would recommend no one purchase this CD; you may get more enjoyment on the latest release of Barney (yeah the purple dinosaur). I will agree that the original was good but this "Screwed & Chopped" mix is a disaster!

4 out of 5 stars hot album.......2004-06-01
