The Best of Busta Rhymes [Explicit Lyrics]

Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com
In the quick-turnover world of hip-hop Busta Rhymes proves that charisma aligned with sharp intelligence and stylistic flexibility ensures staying power. He emerged in 1991 as the linchpin of Leaders of the New School, and the loose-limbed jazz inflected "Sobb Story" from that band's debut shows the strength of Busta's musical roots. He's able to court mainstream favor while staying true to his musical inspirations; he's equally at home getting frisky with Janet Jackson on "What's It Gonna Be" or using dub technique and ragga style on "Woo Hah!! Got You All in Check." His well-defined sense of fun and daring knows few limits. "Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Could See" combines deep African grooves with a sample from soft-rock specialists Seals & Crofts, while a kids' chorus from '50s musical The Ugly Duckling adds weight to the fearsome "Get Out." Busta's larger-than-life presence has made him a burgeoning Hollywood star, but Total Devastation shows that his music will guarantee his longevity. --Gavin Martin

4 out of 5 stars It's got the hits.......2006-07-18

This CD is great if you don't want to scrounge for all of Busta's hits, plus it's got s*** on there that you wouldn't think would make a greatest hits. They're all bangers tho.

5 out of 5 stars Busta Rhymes is definitely one of the most unique rappers alive - not the best collection ever but it's still great!.......2006-01-10

I don't know what everyone else is thinking, but Busta Rhymes is one of the most unique, interesting and strange rappers alive today. He's definitely a strange guy ala the Wu-Tang Clan, but his raps are clear, funny and sometimes even quotable. This is a great collection which I'll admit gets arguably a little slow towards the end, but the beginning is fantastic. I was never truly "into" Busta Rhymes before (I'd heard his hits), but now I can see just how talented he is (he's VERY strange - see "Dangerous" for a good example). He has an instantly recognizable voice and personality that, besides possibly the Wu-Tang Clan, you won't find anywhere else. Except for the first two tracks (which are from his Leaders Of The New School days), everything is from his solo career. Overall I think most rap fans will love this album, and those just looking for his hits will find them all here. All in all this is highly recommended!

Highlights include:
the entire collection!

5 out of 5 stars Best of Busta Rhymes.......2005-09-07

This album is a compilation of his first few albums including when he was with his original group. It's crisp and every track has that Busta Rhymes flow that we all enjoy. If you don't have every album from this artist then just start here.

4 out of 5 stars It's got "Rhymes Galore"........2005-03-14

I must admit I was a little late getting into Busta, but now that I'm in, it's alot of fun. He has a great flow, and is definitely unique among his peers. This is a super "best of" that includes everything that I (a casual fan), have ever heard from him. Most of this is good, but my faves are "Woo Hah!! Got You All In Check", "Dangerous", "Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Could See", and "Party is Goin' On Over Here". Plus it has "What's It Gonna Be" with Janet, and the cool "Turn It Up(remix)/Fire It Up", which samples the theme from "Knight Rider". After one listen to this sweet collection, you'll be saying "Gimme Some More".

4 out of 5 stars Great.......2004-05-27

I recently purchased this CD and was previously aware of Busta Rhymes' work but not a fan. This is my first purchase of his music and I'm pretty much hooked on him now! He's pretty cool, funny and a really good lyricist. The beats are unique and his style unlike anthing I've ever heard or seen before. I dig him.

YO! PUN, I miss you man, Hip-Hop isnt the same with out you. You are definitely one of the best M.C.s that lived, and if you were still alive, you would have shut down alot of these corny M.C.s today for sure! Illest joint Pun spit on was A song done with the Beatnuts called "Off the books", check it out! One Love BIG PUN! You wont be forgotten.

4 out of 5 stars Man, I already have all of this!!!.......2006-11-21

Really quick and really short here.

I was hoping to hear some "street level" stuff. In other words, stuff from Pun that NO ONE has ever heard before. Some of the the "blends" are cool but, nothing THAT amazing. I have all of Pun's cds. In fact, everything from Fat Joe and the Terror Squad EXCEPT TS's "True Story."(Which I will be buying soon from here to add to my collection.) It is RUMORED that Sony MAY release some of Pun's older and never heard of material. But anyways......

If you love Pun and everything Pun like I do, get this cd, BUT, if you are expecting to hear like, an ENTIRE album of NEW stuff from Pun, you are not going to get it from here. You may have all of the same albums like me, and well, this compilation is not that far off.

I am torn. I love Pun. Best lyricist ever. But, this cd does not bring anything "new" to fans. Most of Pun's hits are here, some with different beats. But, I was just kind of dissapointed here.

The description that is used is: The Best of Big Pun: Hits and Unreleased [Mixtape]

Not that much UNRELEASED stuff. But, like I said, this may be a rare compliation with Pun's stuff on it and may not be around forever, so, I say go ahead and get it. But, it is stuff that we ALL have heard before. At least, on MOST of these tracks....

    R.I.P. Big Pun.

4 out of 5 stars rip big pun.......2005-10-28

big pun is definatly one of the best lyricists ever 50 cent is over rated and pun could smash him in five minets I can tell that eminem wasdefinatly inpired by bun he is one of the dopest mcs to ever rock the mic

    4 out of 5 stars PANA!.......2005-01-12

This is the second best street mixtape of Pun, the first in my opinion is the J LOVE one. This was released after Pun's passing in 2000, as most of the current Pun mixtapes on the street are. It combines most of the classic Pun tracks you know and might not know. Any fan of Pun knows he is one of the best lyricists ever. Unlike Pac and BIG who had short but very fruitful catalogs of music in their short careers, Pun really had only 4 solid years from 1996-2000. You look at Big and especially Tupac and yrs. after their passing we are hearing new and unreleased ish! Well, that refers more to Pac as most Biggie jems are heard or remixed by now. I think it's a shame that Pun is so slept on and nearly forgotten while Pac and Big are bigger than ever! Of course they were amazing but Pun deserves shine all the same, he had flow and metaphors that'd make most mc's these days drop the mic in frustration! I hate to say it but I think the fact that Pun was Puerto Rican is a factor as to why he isn't in the "big leagues" of classic and beloved mc's. Besides in The Bx and NY hoods Pun gets little to no shine like the others. Check some of his earlier tracks here like the circa 97-98 joints with B Real of Cypress Hill and Fat Joe, Symphony 2000 and Firewater. All in all a good representation of the last great NY mc, Jay Z being excluded. Joey Fingaz is pretty hot DJ and mixtape king to boot. He ain't in the league of a Kay Slay or Green Lantern yet but he got fire! Good looking to Fingaz for puttin Pun up! Just a lil aside... even in his short time on earth and as an mc, Pun DID have beefs most famously with today's current playboy...50 Cent. Anyone worth their hip hop n street cred should know the famous dis of Pun( and everybody for that matter ) on 50 Cent's "How to Rob." Most of you clowns who like 50 since he blew prolly never heard this and don't know what the heck I'm talking bout, but the lines " Rob Pun without a gun, snatch his piece and run, how he gon chase me he weigh 400 pounds son" were fuel to the fire. Pun did a song on Yeah Baby, sorry forgot the one at da moment, where he blazed 50 with "And to that 50 cent rapper go head get ya nut off, you don't know in real life I'll blow ya [...]" The only reason i m,ention this is cuz 50 didn't respond back and he did have time before Pun diead as far as I know. In reality, if Pun was still here I think he'd blow 50 a new one!

Thanks to markjukes for selling me this cd! The sound quality isn't the best, but considering that this is a freestyle cd, it's understandable. By listening to this cd, you really get a sense of what it took for all these artists to get to the top. All the tracks are good, but my favorite would have to be from Eminem & D12. Be sure to to check out markjuke's movie when it comes out!

I recently purchased Rap City: The Best of the Booth and I must say it wasn't what I expected. I expected a CD from AMAZON.com and instead I purchased this cd from a random ebay seller. The Cd looked like it was burned/copied at home. I paid for a brand new CD and it definatly was NOT brand new. This is a rip-off and I'm shocked that AMAZON.com would even sell such a bad product.
