On People Under the Stairs' sophomore album, after 1999's The Next Step, debut producer and MC Thes One promises in the liner notes, "We'll keep making that '93-style hip-hop with that '73-style funk till 2033." Trying to fulfill that guarantee, on Question in the Form of an Answer PUTS digs up obscure funk loops and breaks, staying true to an underground tradition that emphasizes neck-breaking beats and high-caliber lyricism. The formula is transparent at times, perhaps a little too obvious, but it's hard not to like their new-school influence, whether in the form of puff-chested braggadocio ("Yehaw Partystyles") or superfunky spy fantasies ("Suite for Creeper"). --Oliver Wang

the reason i still listen to hip-hop.......2006-09-28
about a week ago i came across this album and it was the first time that i had heard of these guys. i was amazed by everthing on this album. usually i am preffereably into the new york scene of hip-hop but i have been recently very into hyroglyphics and pharcydeand a few other west cost emcees. P.U.T.S. sound somewhat similar to those groups but i have to say they are by far the best thing out of the west coast that i have ever heard. i havent had this for a week and i have already ordered two of there other albums. IF you love real hip-hop and hate nelly, dipset, puff daddy etc. u will love this album 2

p.u.t.s. 'dig up the beats like super mario 2'.......2005-03-31
i have to say, being in my late 20's, it is really hard to find any good hip-hop that gives you the feeling of chillen and being back in high school, or just good beats and flows to listen to and laugh along with (like the 'super mario 2' reference), but 'question in the form of an answer' is the solution to this problem. thes love and dub put together some of the best sounds available in the genre, sampling every single sound on the recording from some obscure records. (no drum machines are used at all.) they seem to be feeling the cats that don't wanna hear about bling-bling and escalades, and they deliver great rhymes that even suburban white dudes (like myself) can relate to and get into. i love both of their styles of flow and the jazz-funk vibe that almost all of the tracks seem to retain. swearing and cussing is not overt and is done in quite the same way that it is used when you are hanging out and talking with your friends. i highly recommend this disc, along with all the other p. sounds, if you liked e.p.m.d. and a tribe called quest, but can't stand nelly or eminem or 50 cent. the peeps are the real deal, just 2 b-boys making good old hip-hop.
If u gots mad love for the ol' skool game, buy this, fool........2004-06-14
Words can't describe how utterly dope this album is. Mad beats, rhymes, funk. All you want to do while listening is put your right arm in the air and wave it like you just don't care. Head bobbing like no body's bizness, lips puckered, neck weaving, knees bouncing. Damn, I haven't felt like this since '86. Why PUTS ain't blown up huge makes no sense. These cats kick some crazy joints, spitting lyrics and keepin' it real. BUY THIS ALBUM. Probably the best pure hip hop album I have bought in 20 years.
Just good ol' L.A music for bros and hoes!.......2003-12-04
Oi, I hafta say, People Under The Stairs abseloutely smacks it again with "Question In the Form Of An Answer." Double K and Thes One from West L.A (yes West, not East for once) give you party bag of full flavoured funk, soul and jazz with a hip-hop twist. Round it, it's Hip-Hop in it's purest, most original form. It's not some gangsta flex, but personally I think that's a good thing. The best tunes on the album are Youth Explosion, Blowin Wax, Yehaw Partystyles, Zignaflyinblow, Earth Travelers, The Cat, We'll Be There and all the other tunes are heavy as well.
Basically, If your not into good hip-hop like Ugly Duckling, Pharcyde, Lewis Parker etc., Than you shouldn't really buy this...Stick to Nelly, 50 Cent and Eminem. But if your like me and you got good taste, BUY THIS CD, WITHOUT HESITATION.
P.S: The Next Step, O.S.T and Or Stay Tuned are all classics as well.
hip hop heads galore.......2003-05-09
PUTS is quality gold ish! everytime i introduce cats to the PUTS sound, they scoop up every album they have. hey its only 3 but dang man, its all instant vintage! they remind me of the old school liks, they talked ish, and had some of the most classic one liners. i mean, thesse dudes dont care, and they put out what they like and on top of that diss everyone doin ish for money and fame. if i ever hear PUTS at a party its on! if i ever hear PUTS downtown in some yuppy bar that plays b2k and calls it hip hop--ITS ON!! if i ever hear PUTS bumpin loud ina NSX--ITS ON!! pull out ur duckets and scoop question in the form, its definately better then next step and OST. but those are all quality too... this whole album is tight, and i gaurantee u'll like it and the rest of PUTS ish. oh yeah, scoop my man MOKA ONLY. hes on the whole contemporary rap vibe. pick up LIME GREEN, and his new joint FLOOD--if u can find it you new wave freak!
detectives on the beat, every mission complete.

Complete recordings of Mikrokosmos are relatively common these days, but aside from guiding students I wonder what purpose they serve. This is a series of piano study pieces starting at the most basic level, and the music with genuine listening interest really begins only with Book 3 (of 6). Similarly the duets are mostly teaching pieces, and though they make for good listening in small groups, the entire series becomes tiresome. Bartók wrote magnificent music, and the later books of Mikrokosmos are filled with superb little pieces. But though the performances in this set are all excellent, not much of the music is basic Bartók. --Leslie Gerber

Amazon.com essential recording
Bartók's Mikrokosmos ("Little World") essentially comprises 153 teaching pieces, divided into six books of progressive difficulty. These works make ideal vehicles for budding piano students who are ready to face the myriad challenges of 20th-century keyboard music. They also reveal the kernels of the Hungarian composer's uncompromising compositional style. György Sándor was a piano pupil of Bartók's, and his fluid, perceptive playing is unfailingly idiomatic, from the simple, canon-like exercises at the start to the demanding Six Dances in Bulgarian Rhythm that crown the cycle. The mono engineering is thin but acceptable. Suffice it to say that the composer would have been proud of what his pupil achieves here. --Jed Distler
Customer Reviews:
The slender difference that makes the great difference!.......2006-09-29
At the actual moments it's hard to find out that unusual and missed way of play Bartok with these well known dissonant inflections, for all of us who had the immense privilege to watch this legendary pianist twice in Caracas in the seventies and eighties. To this reviewer, it will be absolutely impossible to forget his egregious presence and powering [...], steeled phrasing hovered by that special reverberation and acidic lyricism at the moment to play Out of doors that cold night of December 9, 1982.
Without another intention in mind, but intending to illustrate and motive the newcomer listener, I would say that in just few counted occasions (Richter and Prokoviev, Ravel and Cortot) there has been such chemical rapport between composer and performer.
At least in my case, I have not heard about any other pianist able to sound so sarcastic, reverberating and genuinely Hungarian as Gyorgy Sandor did it.
So I really hope you to keep in mind all these previous considerations at the moment to make this wise choice. Go for this record without any shadow of doubt.
This album is now part of the mythic legend of the treasures for keyboard.
No other pianist will sound so astonishingly as Sandor does.
