Fireproof

It's amazing what gathering healthy record company resources can do for good music. As evidenced with the first incantation of Fireproof, a band can work hard as an independent and release a quality product only to see it reach a relative few ears. With MCA behind them, Midwestern metalheads Pillar have re-released Fireproof with improved production and mixing and a final product as good as anything on the market. Even though the stylistic references to Limp Bizkit ("Light at My Feet"), P.O.D. ("Fireproof"), and Linkin Park ("Echelon") are frequent, they strike out enough of their own turf with a rock-solid rhythm from bassist Kalel and tastefully sharp guitar licks from Noah Henson. Singer Rob Beckley carries the vocal intensity and range to match his bandmates' raw power. He's also down with the bass-heavy groove as you'll hear on "Stay Up," a rapid-fire duet with rapper KJ-52. With Fireproof, Pillar rises to the forefront of today's best Christian rock bands. Isn't it funny how a new suit of clothes can make the man, or in this case, the band? --Michael Lyttle

Very good.......2007-02-20
I just got this album-I know a little late-but its really good, especially for those of you that like rock-rap, or "rapcore." I do, and I enjoyed this cd.
I need more Pillar please!!!!.......2006-09-21
This CD is so good I find myself listening to it twice a day. And even when I am not listening to it I have the songs going through my head. "Indivisible" and "Behind Closed Doors" are my favorites on a CD that has nothing but awesome songs. Thank God their new album "The Reckoning" comes out Ocober 3rd. Because I'm addicted to this band now and I NEED MORE!!!!
Great straight ahead in your face rock music.......2006-02-05
Rock and roll has taken some interesting turns in the past few years. We've gone from techno rock in the early 80's to hard rock/hair metal in the late 80's into the early 90's, then it was called grunge and lately nu-metal has been the name attached to it. While I'm sure I missed some of the names rock and roll has been called one thing is for sure. There are many of us out there that have enjoyed - in it's season - most or all of these. With that said, you may have wondered what ever happened to a band just putting out straight ahead in your face rock music with lyrics about stuff they're into. Fireproof by Pillar is one of those albums. The music is upbeat and in your face with great guitar and vocals. The best two songs on this album as Echelon and Fireproof but the remaining part of the album is great as well. If you're looking for no holds barred unapologetic rock and roll, look no further.
pillar review (band in General.......2006-01-15
Even though Pillar is an alternative christian band, it is NOT metal. nor is it good. The Best way to describe this terribly generic band is boring, dull, and way to simple.
However there ARE some great alternative christian bands out there.
Here is a list of christian bands that will better your music collection for the better. (in no specific order)
1.BLINDSIDE
2.Thrice
3.The Showbread
4.Pedro The Lion
5.He is Legend
6.Brave Saint Saturn
7.Chevelle
8.Underoath
9.Me Without You
10.Becoming The Archetype (for you power metal fans)
If You still enjoy Pillar im sorry if i offended you but im just telling you that there are more talented bands out there then the ones who play at Aquire The Fire and Creation. Also check out endeavor form seattle. on www.purevolume.com or www.myspace.com
one of the better cd's I have.......2005-10-29
great music, I dont care for the punk rap vocals since I prefer masculine vocals and they made the cd with too much treble and not enough bass but if you have an equalizer unlike myself you can change that. the music is really good though and Im glad I got this and wdwgfh.

Album Description
With the long-playing album succumbing to today's single song downloadable world, Oliver Future's "Pax Futura," due July 24, 2007, is refreshingly anachronistic. Filled with mini-suites and recurring themes, Oliver Future and acclaimed producer Adam Lasus have created an album in the biggest sense of the word. From the first winsome notes of opener "The Many Things I Am Aware Of," to the manic closer "The Slow Fast," the record brims with intensity and highlights the band's impressive range. Songs fade into each other like scenes from a film as frontman Noah Lit muses on topics such as the apocalypse, politics, failed romance and natural disaster. Oliver Future has rapidly made a name for itself in its adopted hometown of L.A, winning over locals as well as influential radio DJ and music supervisor Chris Douridas, who has had them play live on his KCRW show, "Higher Ground." Since when is this music?.......2004-12-22
A shameless rip-off of Faith No More, plus a bad lead singer, this cd is pointless and not very intelligently constructed. IF you must listen to bad hard rock at least listen to good musicians.
Incredible Rock CD.......2004-04-18
This is an outstanding release from a amazing rock band. If you like the hard/rock, alternative/rock genre, then this CD is definitely for you. Every track is great. Some songs will amaze you beyond belief. The first time I heard "Echelon," "Indivisible," "A Shame," and "Fireproof" -- I couldn't believe how good they were. These guys came out with this version of this CD in 2002, and they impressed MCA records (now Geffen) so much so that MCA released this CD in June of 2003 in a remixed and remastered form. I have both versions, and I like the remixed version better. But I still love the original intro to "Echelon" on this release, which was cut out on the new mix. But for the most part, Echelon is better on the remixed version. The guitars are much more clean and crisp in the new mix. Another song that is a lot better on the MCA release is "Just to Get By." They added a sweet guitar riff in there that makes the song even better. So although this release is still outstanding, I would recommend buying the MCA release over this one.

LET ME HERE YOUR BATTLECRY TONIGHT!!.......2004-06-27
I stumbled onto Pillar when Fireproof was first released on Flicker records. I was completely blown away, I had thought the whole rap-core thing was tired and worn out...These guys where just flat out better than anything I had ever heard....now with the release of Where Do We Go From Here, Pillar has matured even further evolving into a solid metal band. Leaving the rap-core to a minimum and proving that they are more than just another rock/rap band. Bravo!!!
You DO NOT want to miss this CD if you are a rock fan.......2004-04-18
This is a fantastic hard rock CD by an up and coming hard rock band. These guys are one of the most underrated bands in the mainstream market. If you like hard rock music, you cannot miss this CD. Trust me, if you get this CD, you will not only love it, you will not skip a single track. It is so hard to pick a favorite when every song is so good, but right now I am loving "Indivisible." The mainstream rock single, "Fireproof" is also a highlight. The title track, as well as "A Shame, "Echelon" and "Indivisible" were all huge hits on Christian rock radio, for good reason. Just recently "Further From Myself was another big Christian rock and Contemporary Christian hit when they released their acoustic version on "Broken Down: The EP."
Pillar rocks my face off.......2004-03-28
"Fireproof" is my second favorite CD of all time after Pillar's 2004 release "Where Do We Go From Here." This CD is more rap/rock as the verses are rapped, versus the more melodic approach to "Where Do We Go From Here" where the verses are sung. Pillar does both equally as well. So if you want an excellent rap/rock CD with great Christian lyrics, you found the right CD. If you like the rap/rock style of Thousand Foot Krutch (on "Set it Off"), P.O.D. (on "The Fundamental Elements of Southtown," & "Satellite", when they were more rap/rock, and Limp Bizkit (although I don't listen to them, they do the same type of rap/rock)- you should love this CD. A Shame, Just to Get By, Hindsight, Indivisible, Echelon, Fireproof, and Further From Myself are my favorites. If I have to pick one favorite, I'll go with "A Shame." The whole album is solid though. There is not a single song that I don't like.
Here is a track for track review that I found on Pillar's website:
FIREPROOF showcases Pillar's self-confidence, moving effortlessly between extremes of rock and trip-hop. The bursting title track (offered in two remixed versions) is an anthemic mission statement, while "Behind Closed Doors," with its exhortation to choose truth over comfortable self-deception, establishes Rob's rapping fluency. "A Shame" is a portrait of an intimate conversation about faith, so radically redesigned in its remixed version, it's almost a new song. "We changed the guitar, drum and bass so much," says Rob, "it's absolutely night-and-day different, and for the better." "Echelon" is a hip-hop battle cry, with Noah Henson's guitar ratcheting up the tension, while the autobiographical "Hindsight" offers a brutally honest assessment of the past and an enduringly hopeful take on the future. Notes Rob, "There are a lot of people out there saying 'Don't do this or that,' but how can you tell kids that, when you know nothing about it? You gotta tell them why. Someone who's been there knows." "Light At My Feet" multi-tasks as a subtly jazz-influenced yet highly melodic rocker, and on the frenetic "Stay Up," Florida mc KJ-52 joins in as a perfect counter-rapper to Rob. "Epidemic" and "Just To Get By" are equally potent tracks, each pummeling a world gone mad. The album's most overtly political track, "Indivisible," conveys a message of enduring pride in America, and the ballad "Further From Myself" certifies Rob's visionary skill as a lyricist, linking a loss of ego with the journey to the center of faith and understanding.
I especially like the lyrics to Indivisible, where Rob raps "Stop complaining move along / Open your eyes and see what's going on / We need to get back to the ways of the days of old / One nation under God indivisible." After that Pillar starts yelling "In God We Trust," which is "the motto of this greatest nation."
Pillar is just an amazing Christian hard rock band. I think all of the remixes are better (especially on "Echelon" and "Just to Get By"). The DVD is a great addition to this CD, although the concert clips don't capture their amazing live show. These guys put on an awesome show - trust me. If you like rock music, and you haven't listened to these guys, you are missing out.
Pillar's Fireproof is The best yet from an awesome band!.......2003-12-17
Fireproof has it all!!! Down below are the reviews for each song. This album is awesome and deserves a song-by-song review.
1. Fireproof - The first single of the album and the most familiar of all their tunes. Great song!! A hard rock anthem with great lyrics.
2.Behind Closed Doors - This song is awesome!!! Its about what you do and how you support your faith behind closed doors. Sure you may be faithful in public but it takes a true christian to be faithful 24/7.
3.A Shame - Another single off of the album. One of my favorite songs on the cd. This song is about not being "A Shamed" to support your faith and of who created all of us. Chorus:"Its a shame to be a shamed, to be a shamed about the one that we should glorify.
4.Echelon - The second single on this cd. A mixture of rap and hard rock. This song is a great song to bounce to.
5.Hindsight - One of the hardest songs on the album. This song is great. "Yesterdays just a memory in my head" all man "can you believe it???"
6.Light At My Feet - Personally one of my favorite songs on the album. The lyrics to this song are great. "I can't get there by the light at my feet. You make me walking electricity..." it is awesome. The Live acoustic version on the Broken Down EP is great also.
7.Stay Up - This song is a great Rap/hard rock song. KJ-52 appears in this song. Sometimes I find it hard to tell whos singing because they sound alike.
8.Epidemic - This song is my favorite off of this cd. This song is very much Pillar-like. Very fast pounding lyrics with a speedy palm-muted guitar. "There's an Epidemic going on."
9.Just To Get By - This song is awesome. Again, great lyrics to this one too. It talks about when Christians just do what they think is enough to get by with there lives. "Your afraid of what it takes to give it all away. Doing enough just to get by, just to get by, thinking that you live the right life.
10.Indivisible - An awesome hard rock anthem. This is alos the lastest single off this album. The lyrics shime the most on this song. "All the people of the nations give holler. In God we trust, in God we trust. We stamp it on penny, nickel, dime, quarter, dollar." "In God we trust."
11.Also an acoustic version on the Broken Down EP. The Newest single and a very touching song. Mellower than most of Pillar's song but you get the same feel from it.
12.Fireproof (radio mix) - Just like the original version. Same ole' awesome song.
Worth Your Money, Rap/Rock Fans.......2003-11-02
Basically a minimully remixed version, Pillar adds a few new riffs and extras to their already above-the-competition album. Powerful lyrics and beats that are strong throughout the cd, their power doesn't fade at all through the music. Probably their most well-known songs Fireproof, has been on Christian Top Charts for months, has gotten a subtle "upscaling" bass beat added to it, which keeps the song going through the transitions. Some of the songs, the newly-added beats messed up the choruses and transitions, but overall it's just as good. I tried to grade a little harder than most people, since seeing every song as "10/10" doesn't help much.
Basic Analysis:
Fireproof- the song that's made them known, catchy but can get annoying w/ Rob shouting "I am Fireproof" over and over - 8/10
Behind Closed Doors- my second favorite song, really a chorus the whole way through and clean transitions...great! 9/10
A Shame- this song definitely needs to gain some attention... awesome intro and remixed for the better, and still is the best!
- 10/10
Echelon- the original beat for "Echelon" got changed, and kinda hurted it...the timing of the lyrics and the beats aren't as crisp as the original cd...but still a good song - 8/10 Hindsight- one of the songs that I think should've not been changed...each transition by the drums is drowned out by the metronome-ic beat...originally a straight rap song, now I'm not sure - 7/10 , 9/10 on the other cd
Light at My Feet- one of the songs I don't listen to much of, just something about the change in Pillar's style...a bit different than the rest, you either like it or you don't...(and I don't) - 7/10
Stay Up- again, the new beat overshadows the old one; not as clean-cut, but it keeps the song that seemed to slow in a few places going...and they should do another song with KJ-52, who really added to the song...rap on KJ! ...definitly an example of the remix gone right - 9/10, used to be 8/10
Epidemic- am I detecting a trend here? seems there's the same remixed beat added to this song, and here it doesn't really work since this song is less rock and it sorta holds the song back. Still worth listening to, but Epidemic could be better
- 7/10, used to be 8/10
Just to get by- I've always thought this song kinda stands out from the rest, with the little hidden chant at the end and now part of the song it sounds like aliens are singing or something...I wonder what they'll put on the next remix? More of a fun-to-listen-to song, it definitely supports the remix with the needed beat and high guitar solo-thing througout the chorus - 9/10, used to be 8/10
Indivisible- Rob has this paranoid-attitude throughout the song for some reason, which kinda hurts the lyric's message...for the remix they added some trash can-banging, which saves this song from being mediocre (one of my lifetime dreams...band on a metal drum) - 8/10, used to be 7/10
Further From Myself- Rob really shows his singing voice in this song...listen enough to it, and you'll find yourself singing along to it (most of the other songs are a little harder to sing along to for us rapping-impaired people) anyway, it's another of those hate-it or love-it songs, and I love it! The lute sound in the remix keep it this already-awesome song pushing forward - 9/10, used to be 8/10
Mainly, the songs were remixed that add a lot of power to their already-strong lyrics. Probably not worth buying if you already have the "original" Fireproof, even though the remixes really add to the music. If you haven't already joined the Pillar boat, jump on in if you're looking for a rap/rock album with clean lyrics!
Like this album? check out P.O.D., Blindside, Disturbed, Smile Empty Soul, Alien Ant Farm, Trapt, 38th Parallel, 12 Stones, and Pillar's upcoming album "Broken Down: the EP" ready 11/18/03!
Keep rockin,
Brian

The most underrated band EVER!.......2003-03-10
It is such a shame that this brilliant band were (and still are) so unfairly overlooked.
Formed from the ashes of the Undertones, they rose like an indie/pop phoenix well before Oasis and Blur etc. hit the scene and became mega successful! This album is their last and my favourite. Every song is a gem; the catchiness of 'Detonate My Dreams', the heaviness of 'Catch A Fire', the great riff of 'Last of the True Believers', the simply great song-writing on 'Infinate Thrill', 'Speed of Light', 'Shangri-La' and of course the rest of the album! This band were so original for their time; they were writing guitar-pop in the mid 80s when synth was king and they got no recognition but split before the music they pioneered became popular. They are respected by bands such as Radiohead, R.E.M, Sonic Youth, U2, Iggy Pop and David Bowie. Their influence is still audible today in many bands who cross indie with dance, rock and pop but they unfortunately STILL remain unsung a good 10 years later! Do this band a favour and buy this record along with Chemicrazy, Babble, Manic Pop Thrill and Final Flame.

Product Description
With his fourth solo-release, Reto Mäder aka RM74 takes us on a fevery missionary journey which is driven by an unholy quest for saturation and leads us into the dark places where tortured souls dwell. Unpredictably muckraking in the shoals of timeless abysses, RM74 seeks to kindle the supressed fires of passion. Nothing less! To do justice to this mission, Mäder interweaves acoustic instruments such as an organ, a piano, a bassguitar or a harp with analogue and digital treatments into 8 firey and frivolous revelations. The symbiotical relation on Fireproof In 8 Parts is clearly in favour of the beatified instruments, which are re-discovered as liberating tools: The dusty organ winds itself ecstatically in purgatory. The rickety piano holds confused and atonal soliloquies. The detuned strings of the bassguitar gleefully dance to the song of wantonness, and the harp calls for the exorcism of charaded awe! Fireproof In 8 Parts also contains a bonus CD-R titled Part 9: LoFire . This goodie offers additional insight into the works of RM74, concentrating on his LoFi-inspired Songwriter drafts. Guestmusicians: Ralf Wehowsky (aka RLW), Dave Phillips, Roger Ziegler (Herpes Ö DeLuxe), Alexei Borisov and Reverend Lester Knox (archived by Tom Smith). The CD comes attached to a printed A5 cardboard (550g/m2) and packed in a transparent, sealable pouch.
