Visions of Gandhi [Explicit Lyrics]

The menacing, cryptic style of Philly boys Vinnie Paz and Stoupe the Enemy of Mankind has served them well on cult classics The Psycho-Social CD and Violent By Design, making them champions of the underground. On the highly anticipated Visions of Gandhi it's Stoupe's production--split evenly between moody, down-tempo beats and not-quite-commercial, mariachi- and salsa-inflected rhythms--that once again carries the day. Unfortunately, the lyrical content--a mélange of clichéd hip-hop signifiers and mixed religious metaphors--just can't match up to Stoupe's beats. The copious guest appearances (including Kool G Rap, Non Phixion, and Ras Kass) are sure to draw curious bystanders to JMT's special brand of esoterica, but they can't hide the fact that lyrically the duo seems to have lost a bit of their visionary edge. If you're looking for dope Stoupe beats with lyrics to match, you might do better to check out another 2003 Stoupe production, Canibus's Rip the Jacker. --Rebecca Levine

5 out of 5 stars Tha' real.......2007-01-04

This album is probably JMT's syckest one, if not Violent By Design. Both are incredible but this one stretches beyond the limits of dope beats and syck lyrics. Anyone who says Vinnie Paz isn't a good lyricist, check to see if your head's screwed on straight. Stoupe is incredible on the boards as well, and the two make a deadly combination not to mention dope collabs with Canibus, Kool G Rap, Non Phixion crew, etc. If you like in your face hip hop, cop this c.d. If you don't, why are you reading this?

3 out of 5 stars more like a 3.9.......2006-10-26

beats are amazing. lyrics.. Vinnie Paz is often outdone by his guests unfortunately. good, hardcore rap if you're into that. in my opinion, album is worth getting just for the song Animal Rap (ft. Kool G. Rap). Vinnie Paz's first couple lines in this song gives me tingles every time i hear it. def a group worth checking out.

4 out of 5 stars great beats, horrible lyrics.......2006-07-31

Stoupe The Enemy of Mandkind has really amazing beats and tight samples, but the lyrics on this album are wack and unoriginal. Sorry to say, I would rather have an instrumental version of this album and spit my own rhymes over them to do them justice, or rather, imagine tight lyrics being spit over them. The lyrics that are provided with these beats don't do the beats justice. Violent, semi-medaphoric religious lyrics just don't cut it. They are mad tight beats that deserve some intellectual stimulation, not violent homages to death and destruction.

5 out of 5 stars another great album from jmt.......2006-05-08

Vinnie Paz and Stoupe are indeed one of the greatest MC, DJ duos ever. The album is super raw hard hittin on both beats by Stoupe and lyrics by Paz. Paz is an official "lyrical wrecking ball" completely demolishing other MC's abilities here - a pure battle rapper. While I do miss Jus Allah's absence from the group, I will say that the many guest rappers on the album did fill the void he left on this album. My favorites were Percee P and Tragedy Khadafi. Also rap legend Kool G Rap is on here as well. If your a fan of blingy rap, dance club anthems, or love songs then stay far, far away from this album, because its only raw hardcore tear the wall down "fight music" that you'll find here - stuff that gets your adrenaline flowin.

5 out of 5 stars Tight.......2006-04-01

This is the first "Jedi Mind Trick" I got, I heard about em not too long ago heard a couple songs also they were tight. I saw this cd, so I decided to pick it up, and I was impressed. The production was on point, along with the lyrics, a lot of these songs are up beat which I like. So ya if you a fan of rap, or underground rap, or whatever. Go out and get this cd, you'll like it.
