Unpredictable

Editorial Reviews

Don't mistake the rollicking, cantankerous, belligerent, and scattershot verbal delivery of Mystikal as a marker of ignorance. Behind those layers of verbal masking lies some of the most insightful and capable lyricism coming out of the entire No Limit camp. Not that that's a high bar to cross, but Mystikal is apt to fall into the cracks, too easily dismissed as a vocal novelty. On Unpredictable, supported by the requisite Beats by the Pound production team, he dances with the usual themes, though his lyrics and presence are a notch above the rest. Most absorbing are "Murder 2" and "Shine," both tracks written for his murdered sister. The latter is an ode, and the former a harrowing fantasy of revenge against her killer, both delivered with an additional, pained twinge of vocal expressivity. --Jon Caramanica

Lest you think Jamie Foxx is simply capitalizing on his Oscar-winning turn in Ray, don't forget that Unpredictable is actually a follow-up (albeit 11 years later) to his 1994 debut, Peep This. In fact, Unpredictable even sounds like a slow jams album from the '90s; despite featuring guests like Snoop, Kanye West, and The Game, Foxx isn't trying to out- club Ciara or Amerie with a series of hip-hop-flavored tracks. Instead, he relies on getting his croon on with tried-and-true R&B balladry. Unpredictable actually gets rather predictable over the course of 15 songs, too many of which begin to meld into one another. But on the best songs, like the sublimely acoustic "Heaven" and his duet with Mary J Blige ("Love Changes"), Foxx reminds you that he has been singing just as long as he's been acting; this is no Jamie-Come-Lately. --Oliver Wang

I loved listening to this. Jamie is very talented in multiple ways. I would rebuy it if I had to.

4 out of 5 stars Jamie Foxx- Unpredictable.......2007-06-14

This was a surprise! Jamie can really sing. He does lack songwriting skills but his vocals really make up for it. And he has an all star writing cast and a producing cast on his side which really helps this album alot. He definetly likes sex, which who doesnt but that is what most of this album consists of. But he does it right so its okay that he is a sex maniac. This album wont win any awards, but it will earn him many fans for the future. Including me. But the single and title track "Unpredictable" is really one of the only fast tracks. Most of the other tracks are slowed down baby making tracks. Which is where he excells. I mean the standouts are "Three Letter Word" which is just explaining how the three letter word (Sex) is always on his and many other mens minds. It is a very sexy song. And then there is the Tank assisted "Do What It Do" which is again a mid tempo sex song that you find yourself singing along with. It is definetly a standout track. It just has a sexy coolness to it, which makes it the standout it is. And then the other REAL baby making track on this album is the RL (From Next) assisted slow jam "Storm". ANd boy let me tell you one listen to this track and you are going to be in that mood instantly. It is so soothing and sexy you just cant deny the sexyness this track has. And then he actually changes the mood a bit with the sweet "Heaven" which will have the soft hearts going AWWWWW! And then Jamie morns the loss of his grandmother on the smooth "Wish You Were Here". And then one of the last standouts is the Mary J Blige collabo "Love Changes" which is a mid tempo old school track that explains...well how love changes you. Jamie really surprised me with this album and when he finally makes another album i will be counting down the days til it comes out!

Even after just reading the title to the songs, I didn't think there was going to be anything "Unpredictable" about this album. I listened to it and confirmed that this album is a total waste of resources and energy. I'm so surprised that it has 4 out of 5 stars here on Amazon. There is one subject that this album is about. It seems like when he wrote the lyrics he had to be thinking "they'll love it because I'm Jamie Foxx". Maybe he got his ghetto teenage cousin to write these lyrics because they are hideous. I can't blame the man for milking the cow while he's hot though, but I'm truly disappointed (but not too surprised because his first album wasn't that great either) that he couldn't put out a decent product. I'm all for supporting black, but we should expect quality.

He is a good actor and a very good singer. Trust you will feel this CD. Just don't mess around and make a baby. And in the event that you do make a baby, just play you still got it.

1 out of 5 stars Jamie Foxx - Unpredictable.......2007-03-09

HATED IT!!! I should have read reviews first. Not at all what I expected. He has a wonderful voice but it was NOT showcased at all. Lyrics are VERY explicit! I could never listen with my young kids in the house...but the CD will not be around here long enough for anyone to hear. I don't care that he thinks about sex every minute or how much he drank or where he ended up! What a voice!!! too bad he wasted it on crappy lyrics. Maybe he should stick to acting. Reminds me of the trainwreck Madonna made with her sex book several years back! Who cares how much sex Foxx is having give me some good music!

5 out of 5 stars Unpredictably his best album.......2007-06-24

Mystikal was doing his thing with Jive before No Limit. Mind Of Mystikal was great and I didnt think was going to top that one until I heard this one. The first track Born 2 Be A Soldier was slammin(even though they could have kept Silkk away from that song). Murder 2 picks up where Murderer on the first album left off as Mystikal lets off some steam at his sister's killer. Unpredictable, 13 Years, U Cant Handle This, The Man Right Chea is Mystikal at his best. As usual Mystikal always has his smoke record on each album and Still Smokin' is the best one out of all of them. D*** On The Track and It Yearns(which samples T La Rock's Its Yours) are Mystikal flexing his lyrical muscles and he does a good job too. Even though this album is tight it does have its flaws. Silkk The Shocker should have never been on Aint No Limit and Born 2 Be A Soldier. Sleeping With Me is kind of bland and Gangstas(features Snoop and Master P) was soso. The album ends with a nice tribute to his sister which is called Shine. Bottom Line: Mystikal was at his best on Unpredictable which is his best album to date. He was hungrier here than he sounds now and the production was great. This unquestionably one of the best No Limit releases. Standout Tracks: BORN 2 BE A SOLDIER, MURDER 2, 13 YEARS, UNPREDICTABLE, GHETTO CHILD, HERE WE GO, STILL SMOKIN, U CANT HANDLE THIS, THE MAN RIGHT CHEA, D*** ON THE TRACK and IT YEARNS.

4 out of 5 stars mystical in my top 5 best rappers of all time..........2006-04-15

mystical is sick he can rap slow he flip it and he can be metaphorical with it the only other rapper out there that can do that is luda but what people dont understand is that mystical has been doing this for 12 years still selling gold and platinum albums and so called mc's in new york or the east may have invented the game but please dog dont hate on the souf cuz we comin... p.s. never bite the d*ck that feed u suckas mystical's crunk dog. "haters".....

2 out of 5 stars Good album --- What are you listening to??.......2005-08-10

The best album ever, PLEASE, this album is not even close to being good. Of the 17 songs on here, 2 are good, about 6 are ok, and the rest are just plain bad. My least favorite No Limit cd of the 15 or so I have (clkose with Snoop's "Da Game Is to Be Sold..." album). Not even the No Limit guests (which oddly there aren't nearly as many as any other release) can bring this up to even an ok album. Yeah Mr. Puzzleface can rap fast but that don't make him good. His flow is way off beat and he can't rap either, and the sad part is this is his best cd. Production is decent, but not as good as Beats by the Pound crew usually is (the wack rapper on the mic is probably the main reason). Craig B does 6 songs, KLC does 5, O'Dell does 2, and Rick Rock, DJ Darryl, Studio Ton, and Legendary Traxster all do 1. So when he asks -- Did I Do It? I answer yes, you made a horrible cd. Unless for some odd reason you're one of the bunch of idiots who like him or comemrcial down south music save you money and ear drums on this one.

5 out of 5 stars The Best Album Ever.......2003-01-07

This album speaks for itself. There is no cd ever came out that was better than this on.(If you can find one than e-mail me). Mystikal, I Think, on this album comes with his best raps ever. The first song on the album tells you how hard he is coming. He is the best rapper to ever live. So the only think I can say about this album is, There is not another better and if you don't have it you need to go and get as fast as you can. Because you know this {will} sell like some hotcakes.

5 out of 5 stars a masterpiece.......2002-02-16

Man, I've never been so delighted with a South hip-hop album like I am with this one! I always thought the dirty south didn't deliver good hip hop untill I heard 'bout Mystikal! I loved his voice right away when I heard it! I went out and searched for all his CD's but the first 3 aren't available here so I went to England and picked them up there... And I got to say it is worth it, these CD [are good]! His ruff voice and superfast flow can't be compaired to any other rapper, you could say Mystikal is one of a kind! And them ol' dirty south beats on this joint are just smokin' , it is an allmost flawless album! I like every track, from the first to the last! But if I have to give the best tracks I would have to say... Damn, I can't choose, the whole CD's great!! Really, you have to believe me, it doesn't matter if you like east, west, north or south, you'll like this, no matter what! This is defenitly No Limit at it's best! Just buy it and find out!

I bet anyone anything that every single girl in this country owns this cd by now. Us men do appreciate what Jamie Foxx is doing, even though it has cost us our girlfriends. Anyways, I was truly speechless when I heard the first few tracks off of the album, then I got hooked on it. His slow jams are the best and the uptempo ones dont fall behind. He has some great collabos that include Snoop and Game, to name a few. Overall, this is a must buy must hear album, trust me.

All I can say is WOW! I LOVE YOU JAMIE and its not just infactuation. I cant wait to get more from him. Im sure your next project will be ALL GOOD!

5 out of 5 stars He Makes It Do What It Do, Baby!.......2006-01-29

At first, I was not turned on to J.Foxx ( as I love to call him). I just thought of him as another actor/comedian trying to break into the music world. I knew he had a little voice but I didn't think he had the skills that he display as on this album. From track 1 - 15, I'm loving it. Basically ALMOST every song on her has a sensual feel to it. If you wanna get intimate w/your partner, you can DEFINITELY do w/this album. Because of this, I have fallen in love w/him and his voice. I loved when he acts but this album here lets me know he is a Jack of All Trades. Keep it up J.Foxx and keep making it do what it do! This album has truly brought my man to the light!! Finally, he has arrived!!!

I hate clean cd's. I haven't figured out what's clean yet. I'm guessing Game's rap, I think I can live with that. I was worried because I knew the whole thing was about sex. No wonder I found it used, some other sucker probably opened before they figured out it was a clean cd. They need to put all those in one section. But anyway, it's good riding music on the way to his or her house. :)

        5 out of 5 stars walkin'on the wildest side.......2003-10-29

I have 3 Lp copies of this CD. All in terrible state. I spinned these lp's hundred's times. Arrangements by Oliver Nelson are splendid. Numbers like step right up and walk on the wild side are worth 6 stars. Bravo Jimmy, this must be your best album ever.

Combine the huge and sardonic big band sound of the Oliver Nelson Orchestra with the greasy organ of Jimmy Smith, and you get a marvel.

This CD is really some smokin' playing by Jimmy. It's highly recommended. The big band backup of Oliver Nelson, with whom Jimmy collaborated on for a good number of recordings really adds to the BASHIN'. It's real powerful stuff all the way through.
