The W [Explicit Lyrics]
Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com's Best of 2001
The Wu-Tang Clan have slimmed down on their lean and mean third album, both in title and in content. Clearly having learned a lesson from the ostentatious affair that was their last group effort, Wu-Tang Forever, The W weighs in at a taut 13 tracks, with little, if any, extraneous self-righteous solipsism. RZA returns to the boards for all but one track and proves that Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) was no fluke, manipulating ghoulish soul to chilling effect on "Hollow Bones" and dropping (and chopping) thunderous horns at the intro to "One Blood Under W" (which features a stellar turn from reggae don Junior Reid). The album's first two singles--"Protect Ya Neck (The Jump Off)" and "Gravel Pit"--are both fierce, propulsive numbers, inspiring the Wu collective--Ghostface Killah and Method Man in particular--to higher energy levels than they've displayed in years. Elsewhere, The W is Ghost's record, especially on the unhinged lament "I Can't Go to Sleep" and the prostrate plea "Jah World." Memorably, Snoop and ODB collaborate to comic effect on "Conditioner," and all the album's cameos--from Redman and Nas to Isaac Hayes and Busta Rhymes--show that the group is still as savvy as ever. On The W, the boasting is earned. --Jon Caramanica

On his second "solo" album, this stand-up comic and character actor proves himself to be not just a foul-mouthed everyman and an unrepentant geek, but a rather awesome wordsmith as well. That a comedian might rant about how "Cirque du Soleil is like catnip for old people" or the ridiculous unhealthiness of a popular item at the fast food chain KFC is not surprising. That he'd call the fast food item "a failure pile in a sadness bowl" is, let's face it, pure poetry (and really, actually funny the way he tells it). On the track "I Tell a Story About Birth Control and Deal with a Retarded Heckler," Patton displays some of the finest manipulation of a disturbing audience member you'll ever hear. That the album was released by Sub Pop makes perfect sense, as Patton not only has Catholic music tastes--tossing off references to Hasil Adkins, the Pixies, Minor Threat, and Roky Erickson--but as we all know, stand-up is "the new grunge." --Mike McGonigal
Album Description
Patton has been a stand-up comedian for almost twenty years and this is his second CD. Lazy...or maybe busy. He's appeared in over twenty movies, including "Magnolia", "Reno 911!: Miami", and the documentary "The Comedians Of Comedy", which he also created and produced. He played Spence on "The King Of Queens" for nine seasons, is a regular on "Reno 911!", a frequent guest on Conan and Jimmy Kimmel, and a recurring voice actor on "Kim Possible", "SpongeBob SquarePants", "Aqua Teen Hunger Force", and "Crank Yankers". He's a regular columnist in the NY Times Magazine and was an uncredited writer on the "Borat" movie. He's also the lead voice in this summer's Pixar movie, "Ratatouille", playing a rat named Remy. This is his first CD on Sub Pop and it includes a DVD with one hour of stand-up.

More great stuff from Patton.......2007-08-01
To me, Patton Oswalt is the funniest comedian around right now. He can be really goofy one second and be intelligent and political the next, but he's always funny and never comes off as preachy. It seems like some comedians these days are just really cynical and can't laugh at themselves and it makes their stuff hard to listen to. Thankfully, Oswalt avoids that kind of stuff. I'm really not describing his act very well, but that probably doesn't matter too much because I'm guessing you're already familiar with his stuff if you're reading this.
If you liked Patton's earlier stuff then this CD will not let you down. I don't think it's quite as good as Feelin' Kinda Patton, but it's still pretty great. Most of the bits on here are pretty short, which is good because none of them go on longer than they should. Definitely a comedy CD you'll want to listen to a few times (which is pretty rare with comedy albums) and turn friends onto. The DVD is a nice bonus and contains a stand up act with different versions of the jokes on the CD.
My favorite tracks: America Has Spoken, Clean Filth, At Midnight I Will Kill George Lucas with a Shovel, and Death Bed.
I'm Gonna Fill Your Hoo Haa with Goof Juice!.......2007-07-20
If you're a fan of Patton, this material is just as strong and cutting as "feelin' kinda patton." What's great about this release is that there is also a DVD that has a set from Atlanta's 40-watt along with some other footage of Patton just riffing on different topics.
His takes on different political and social issues is fresh and witty. He's brutally honest and insightful and he's evolved into one of the premier stand-up acts working today. There's always a sense of humanity in his act and that's what makes Patton's appeal so broad. He might be saying something that is mostly cynical but it's always tempered with his kind disposition and witty outlook on life. Beyond all of that, he's an incredible comedy writer and his material on this release is masterfully constructed and his delivery is just as sharp.
I laughed, I cried, I bought some for friends! Funny times ten to the X........2007-07-17
I am a Patton fan and I was expecting to be amused. However, I got more laugh-out-loud moments from this CD than I have from any recent comedy CD. There isn't a bad routine. For me, the gems are "Death Bed" and "Physics for Poets". However, I can say I honestly laughed with every track.
I like the inclusion of the DVD as it allows you to watch the genesis of the material. Patton is a distinct physical presence and that adds to the humor.
My husband rarely finds any stand-up comedy funny. However, as I was playing the CD I saw tears of laughter streaming down his face durng "Physics for Poets". It's that good.
His best stuff yet........2007-07-14
Patton is just getting better and better. Absurd without being wacky. Smart without being pretentious. Political without being preachy.
This is his best album yet. Buy it.
Immediately.
Extremely Funny.......2007-07-13
Patton Oswalt is extremely funny. Not just a little funny - EXTREMELY funny. His material is intelligent & unforgettable and this CD is worth every penny.

Second only to Riverdance as an international Irish showbiz phenomenon, previous installments of this Platinum-selling extravaganza have become beloved PBS standards. The original buxom quartet of female singers, Lisa, Maev, Orla, and Chloe, have duly been joined by Hayley and are, as usual, backed by a full symphony orchestra and choir, plus enough traditional instruments (the house fiddler, Mairead, is a powerhouse) to keep things legit. The material ranges from folkloric ("Dúlaman" is best known from Clannad's legendary rendering), to a standard from another Celtic nation ("Caledonia," Dougie McLean's love letter to his native Scotland), to classical lite (Handel's poignant "Laschia Ch'io Pianga"), to movie hits ("Somewhere Over The Rainbow" in a delicately lovely, a cappella, close-harmony treatment), to homegrown New Age (Enya's "Newgrange"). Most tracks are produced to turn, presented in the aural equivalent of Technicolor or day-glo, in which colors pop while diverging ever so slightly from nature. In short, although the album offers fresh material, it covers old ground -- but this is exactly what the act's target audience expects and desires. Fans of acoustic folk would likely find the prevailing aesthetic a touch garish, but fans of Sarah Brightman and Il Divo will be diverted and thrilled. The deluxe package offers four bonus tracks, three of them live, plus a silver claddagh charm. --Christina Roden

Extra tracks make the difference.......2007-08-07
Although I own both the first release and the deluxe edition, I have to say that the songs chosen for the deluxe make all the difference in which I listen to. My favorite song, At the Ceili, is on this one. It adds a brilliant dance tune to the already lovely cd. If you enjoyed the first one, you will love this one!
Angels sing.......2007-07-31
If I never make it to heaven, at least I have been able to hear angels sing. This a great companion to the DVD of the special. If you love great music, you will love this music cd.

Inside the buzzing hive of Smashing Pumpkins' guitars is clearly where bandleader Billy Corgan feels most comfortable. So, after a seven-year hiatus for the short-lived group Zwan and his surprisingly sunny 2005 solo album, Corgan has revived the Pumpkins in all the six-string-spattered shades of emotional gray that made them one of the greatest bands of the alt-rock era. Longtime drummer Jimmy Chamberlin, along with famed boardsmiths Roy Thomas Baker and Terry Date as well as Corgan himself coproduced. Chamberlin also supports mountainous layers of guitar with his fiercest playing. California musicians Ginger Reyes (bass) and Jeff Schroeder (guitar) complete a version of the band dedicated to early bare-knuckled form, with a few exceptions: Corgan's grown into a more powerful wordsmith and his lengthy guitar solo explorations of yore are replaced with a trim, barbed textural approach that's ultimately more vicious. That is, until the centerpiece "United States" stretches into an epic punk-metal-informed sibling of Jimi Hendrix's "Machine Gun," with Corgan's strings singing like explosions and twisting metal as he warbles about revolution. Much of this album conjures literal and sonic visions of apocalypse, but there's grace, too, in the blithe grind of the hopeful "That's the Way (My Love Is)" and the melodic "Neverlost." Overall, Corgan's captivating effort to mine both the spirit of these turbulent times and the soul of his defining band is a smashing success. --Ted Drozdowski

Zeitgeist album.......2007-08-03
Greatest album of 2007!! Full blown Pumpkins at their best. Strong guitar riffs, powerful lyrics and classic Smashing Pumpkins sounds.
this special edition is not special at all.really dissapointed.......2007-07-23
ive been expectin this special edition really more special than the standard one.but the thing is this edition sucks.
i got a scrached cd after the 1st time i opened the sealed package cos the cd is put in the back slipcase and way a lot worse than it to put in a standard cd case for more protection.
and the 76 pages *full*colored book is bulls***!it only got 4or5 low quality picture prints and a *lot*blank pages and transparent pages(so they call a transparent page is TWO PAGES)that is ridiculous cos all the so called book contained 4-5 pictures that maybe billy took and one billy transparent page and one jimmy page the rest are lyrics just like the standard edition.
so everybody who got a brain don't buy this LTD VERSION,ITS A TOTAL WASTED OF MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!
though the music is good.everybody should listen to the music n don't expect anything more of this album
The Smashing Pumpkins Are Back.......2007-07-22
A friend recently described this CD as "loud," and she was right. For some people that is going to mean The Smashing Pumpkins are back: loud full sound layered and layered and layered and busy...
Others will complain that it doesn't sound like the old Pumpkins, because there are some differences. This isn't Siamese Dream or Mellon Chollie and the Infinite Sadness, it's more like MACHINA with touches of Zwan and The Future Embrace--not three of Corgan's more popular works--but it's these touches that make this album interesting and fresh.
The Smashing Pumpkins are indeed back, with enough of the old raw power and sound to satisfy most old fans and enough creative verve to satisfy those of us who don't want the same old thing from old favorites.
The special edition booklet is about as interesting as these booklets get, which isn't very, but Billy Corgan took the photos himself--even the ones of Paris Hilton. No extra content, just 12 songs, but given the quality of those songs, that's more than enough to make this worth buying.
"If it's a white hot soul they want...a black heart they'll get.".......2007-07-21
First off, I would like to state that I have absolutely no doubt whatsoever that this much-vaunted Pumpkins (semi-) reunion - and Zeitgeist itself - is a genuine labour of love. I believe Billy Corgan is wealthy enough and famous enough to have been fully aware of the scandalous campaign of BS and mudslinging that would inevitably follow in the wake of the band's reformation.
The main justification I have for this view is that Corgan, when discoursing on the band, has always given the impression that he vehemently believes that the Smashing Pumpkins were/are more than just a band, more than just the musicians and the music - they were a divisive concept, an interminable paradigm of rife contradiction. If, for example, Pearl Jam had disbanded after their 2000 album Binaural, I get the impression that Eddie Vedder would never speak with such reverence and zeal of the NOTION of Pearl Jam, over and above the band's songs and ethos, which is all the more peculiar bearing in mind that the Pumpkins (Corgan) generally distanced themselves from political dissidence.
With this in mind, Zeitgeist was always going to be something of a megalith recording. With Corgan's apparently newfound political bent pervading the record, some listeners may be taken off guard. On Zeitgeist - as is somewhat belied by the title - Corgan has traded the zeitgeist of adolescent misanthropy and alienation which informed what many consider to be his songwriting heyday (Siamese Dream, 1993 & Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, 1995) of the mid-90s for one of overt social and political critique that informs the present. He doesn't always get it right, however. His knack for articulating his own individual personal anxieties far outweighs his occasionally ungainly indictment of the current climate of fear and mistrust. Yet by the same token, he is obviously passionate about the subject matter, and passion has always been the core requisite for quality artistic output, and few can deny that his sentiments are misguided.
The genius of Billy Corgan though, has always been found in his ability to keep his emotions from completely running the game. His keen analytical eye and instinctive gift for songcraft stop Zeitgeist from digressing (save for briefly on the nigh-10 minute `United States' wherein the band allow themselves to drift slightly too close to Tool's `Third Eye' [Ænima, 1996] ), with the album clocking in at an uncharacteristically lean 52 minutes.
Jimmy Chamberlin on drums has rarely performed better than here, and he and Corgan bulldoze their way through the dark, high-octane openers `Doomsday Clock' and `7 Shades of Black' as if intent on making up for lost time. First single `Tarantula' is another masterblast (My Chemical Romance comparisons not withstanding) with Corgan seemingly espousing the ambiguous demands placed on the performer by the spectator and reasserting his own position therein, drowning in a chaotically cathartic sea of lead guitar. `Starz' epitomises the band's signature whisper-to-a-scream style, with Corgan's recent(ish) guest appearances with Alice in Chains striking a chord, with Chamberlin's percussion recalling Alice's `Social Parasite' in particular.
The pair haven't lost their exultant side however, with the (figurative) calls-to-arms `Bring the Light' and `(Come On) Let's Go!' complementing Corgan's deeply personal musings in the contemplative listlessness and fragility of `That's the Way (My Love Is)' and `Neverlost', whereas the poignant `Pomp and Circumstances' offers a hauntingly equivocal close to proceedings.
Negative press on the album generally centres on the homogenous nature of the album, to the detriment of the band's famed versatility and eclecticism. Yet from start to finish Zeitgeist represents the Pumpkins' most cohesive and focussed work, with ballads, rockers and laments all sharing certain common aesthetic traits, most notably a strong industrial edge on what is quite possibly the band's heaviest work to date.
Something of a synthesis of all five previous albums (and a whole lot more extraneous work) Zeitgeist may take a few years to work its way to the top of many fans' favourite lists, yet there surely can't be too many fans left wholly dissatisfied (save for the morons who had decided to hate the album before they'd even heard a single note), my only slight disappointment being that there is not quite that one track of quintessential Pumpkins brilliance (`For Martha' [Adore, 1998] or `Stand Inside Your Love' [MACHINA, 2000] ) that defines some of the band's less-favoured (not by me, I hasten to add - MACHINA remains my personal favourite) work. * Ironically, this song can be found on the Blue version of the album with the song `Stellar' - I urge you to get hold of it, it is a truly gorgeous track.
Debuting at #2 in the US and #4 in the UK shows that - contrary to the view of nay-sayers everywhere - Corgan's star hasn't fallen too far. Let's just hope that he and Jimmy decide to stick around.
A note on the "Special Edition" package - as Solinas says below, its nothing special but there are bound to be many fans like me who are going to buy this version regardless of being advised of its comparatively negligible enhancement of the Zeitgeist experience. You might wanna clear some space though, coz it ain't gonna fit on your CD rack!
I'm in touch with you.......2007-07-17
The Smashing Pumpkins are back. The legendary rock band, which blossomed like a dark rose in the musical wasteland of the 1990s.
Okay, only frontman Billy Corgan and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin have returned from the original lineup, and the absences can be detected. But their return album "Zeitgeist" is still worthy of epic praise -- dark, passionate hard-rock, written with a darkly poetic sweep. Too bad the extra material isn't so good.
The drums smash, the bass roars like unleashed tornado. "Is everyone afraid?/Is everyone ashamed?/They're running towards their holes to find out/Apocalyptic thieves/Are lost amongst our dead," Corgan drawls, telling us a story of gas masks, Kafka and fear.
It's followed with the roiling rocker "7 Shades of Black," with the level of depression you'd expect ("And without peer/And without fear/I'm without anyone at all!"). Then it pours into a series of blazing hard-rockers -- soaring grimy epics, buzzing and cascading bass rockers, a stripped-down melodic tune, and the soaringly exquisite "Pomp and Circumstances," which is only marred by Corgan singing "la la la la..."
"Zeitgeist" probably won't be gently compared to the Pumpkins' earlier classics, especially since it doesn't have James Iha and D'arcy Wretzy from the original lineup -- valuable talents both. But taken on its own virtues, it's brilliant hard-rock -- epic, dark, and with moments of sheer poetry woven into the stormy music.
If I had a main complaint, it would be that the softer songs are rare here, and that the bass doesn't have that epic quality in some of the songs. But Corgan is blazingly passionate in his playing, layering and building a storm of driving guitar and fuzzy bass. He pushes on the fiery melodies of each song, with Chamberlin smashing the drums beside him. These guys sound kinetic.
And Corgan's nasal voice sneers and drawls through the harder songs, but he can also sound wistful and tender, like when he sings, "that's the way my love is." And he pours plenty of passion into his songs, which seem to balance out between the happy and sad -- on one side, a crumbling, bitter apocalypse, and on the other, "no shadows follow me unsung."
Some of his songs aren't up to par lyrically, like "God and Country." But Corgan spins his weird poetry in other songs, like the the ethereal "Pomp and Circumstance": "Torn, broken and frayed/Oh don't we face/War, sunshine and grace/Oh won't you stay/For a while/We can fail in style..."
The special edition of "Zeitgeist" also comes with a eightyish-page booklet, but to be perfectly honest, the booklet is kind of pointless. It's primarily filled with arty photographs -- Paris Hilton in front of a burgeoning nuclear explosion, a grim reaper on the presidential podium, a Roman soldier, coffins, and quite a few others. They're interesting photos, but not really worth exerting yourself for, and they don't reveal much about the album itself.
The Pumpkins aren't quite all they once were here, but Corgan and Chamberlin are enough to make "Zeitgeist" a brilliant hard-rock album with some vintage flourishes. Just take it for itself, with no comparisons.

Wonderful.......2007-06-26
I bought this CD to listen to at work (I am 6 months pregnant). The quality is awesome and the choice of songs is perfect I can listen to it over and over.
Great for putting kids to sleep!.......2007-06-08
I absolutely love this CD! In fact this is our second one because we wore out the first since we played it so much. It is very soothing, and in fact we used it to help both our kids (now 4 and 18 mo) go to sleep since they were babies. I highly recommend it!
Very Relaxing.......2007-04-10
It is very soothing and really helps you relax. I enjoy listening to it in the car during my high stress commute.
A Must Have for all Parents of Little Children !!!.......2006-11-25
I bought this when my first baby was...well, a baby. That was 8 years ago. Now I am on my 4th copy of this cd (Mozart For Mothers to Be) and my 3rd child. Nothing works better. I'm on here to buy my 4th copy becasue I've worn them out over the years and have to keep replaceing them. My 8 and 3 year old still use it, and now the new baby, also. Make it part of your nightly bed time routine and you'll have good little sleepers in no time. I swear by it. It is very soothing, calming and not distracting so it won't drive you bonkers if you can hear it a little from the next room.
A truely great gift for new parents, or if you have a sleepless little one at home. Turn on the cd, turn down the lights and let it sooth them to sleep.
Inspire the baby-within.......2005-12-13
Beyond sheer musical appreciation and enjoyment, Mozart's music in general is ideal for gently stimulating the "creative centers" as well as instilling a sense well-being. While there is much academic disagreement about the extent or reality of the so-called "Mozart Effect," it doesn't take a genius to observe how Mozart's music puts most people (and probably babies-to-be) in a happy mood ready to take on the day's challenges. There is a simplicity - yet elegance and musical brilliance - in his music that is also well-suited for the youngest of children.
The selections on this CD are all excellent and represent a nice range of Mozart's compostions, emphasising those that are ideal for creating a pleasant backdrop for leisure, dining and social occasions ("divertimentos"). The recordings are from the creme of musicians famous for their Mozart. Few works are as elegant and soaring as the Serenade #10 for winds - an astonishingly beautiful tune made famous from the early scenes of the movie, "Amadeus." Mozart supreme gifts of music are even seen in such humble "background music" as these pieces. And such continuity of warm, leisurely tones as these over 70 minutes is ideal for inspiring the baby to-be if that is why you are considering this CD. Better to expose a baby to the gentile, lyrical music of Mozart than to the dissonant, loud and disturbing tones of some classical music written well after Mozart.
As the reviewer below rightfully notes, compilation CD's of various unrelated works like this one is not quite how classical music is best meant to be heard. But in a way it is better for many to start with such collections like this - especially for those who just want the more quiet selections that are unintrusive. In that respect, this collection can be satisfying for most anyone (not just moms or babies). I have a huge classical music collection, but still really enjoy listening to one full CD of similar-temperament music like this one that flows easily and smoothly that doesn't demand my attention but only seeks to delight. And, in the end, that was the simple and primary goal of many of Mozart's compositions - to be purely enjoyed and delighted.

Essentially a live showcase for their mega-selling breakthrough Fallen, this CD/DVD combo set chronicles Evanescence in peak form during a subsequent tour stop in Paris. The performances here lean early on the crunch of guitarists John Lecompt and Terry Balsamo (reaching a peak on the the band's potent cover of Korn's "Thoughtless"), but ultimately revolve around the melodramatic, goth-rooted vocal charisma of singer Amy Lee. It's on stripped-down, yet still larger-than-life takes of "Bring Me to Life" and "My Immortal," as well as the shadowy grace of "Breathe No More," that Lee stakes her claim to the alt.diva throne. Taken as a whole, the forceful renditions here argue that this live recording was hardly premature, instead well documenting the band's more direct musical tack and considerable live chops. The CD contains the appropriately named, previously unreleased studio track "Missing," while the DVD supplements its crisply shot and edited concert performances with four videos and an hour of documentary footage and interviews. --Jerry McCulley
Album Description
Evanescence's "Anywhere But Home", captures one night of the magic as cameras entered The Zenith in Paris to capture the phenomenon. The two-disc DVD/CD features Evanescence's sold-out European tour and is offered in both 5.1 and two-track audio mixes. In addition to the live concert DVD, which was directed by Hamish Hamilton (U2, Peter Gabriel), "Anywhere But Home" also includes a CD of the concert presented in a two-track mix, and the previously unreleased studio recording of the composition "Missing." The DVD features the band's four music videos, an hour-long behind-the-scenes program, and some special surprises in addition to the concert film. The special surprises will be discovered by the viewer as they navigate the menus designed exclusively for this special release.
Customer Reviews:
Even a 40-something mom will enjoy this.......2007-07-30
I've been searching for the "real" version of "Bring Me To Life" ever since I heard the bubble gum version on Kids Bop. For me, I enjoy music that features good vocals backed up by instrumentals -- particularly piano. Amy Lee definately has that. She reminds me of an Annie Lennox with a more modern edge. I guess I'm also drawn to darker sounding music in minor keys.
I bought this CD because I couldn't find the original album of Fallen where "Bring Me to Life" originally appeared. While this is a live album (which generally I'm not as fond of), the songs definately give you a good sense of what Evanescence is about and whether you will "bond" with them. Now I can't wait to get the other CDs and glad to have found this group and add them to my cadre of anguished chicks.
If you like Annie Lennox and/or Alanis Morisette, then you should like this group. And you will have the added advantage of not being accused of only liking bands from 1985 by your kids...
Three songs not on "Fallen" (or "The Open Door").......2007-07-16
Top-notch for a live album, not intoxicated and the sound quality is pretty good. Three songs not on "Fallen"! "Thoughtless" is as good as any single "Fallen" track, and the live concert footage on the DVD actually excited jaded 40-something me. Plus VH1/MTV videos, which some of us have never outgrown.
My highest recommendation is to buy all three Evanescence albums to date.
A great set for an Evanescence fan!.......2007-06-19
What's better than having a live Evanescence concert on CD? Having a DVD to go along with it! This set is sure to please any Evanescence fan.
So what's to like about this CD/DVD set? Let's start off with the CD first. The setlist is the same as any concert during this tour. I personally saw the band perform these songs when they did a show in Florida. It's great to hear the same songs you know and love sung differently. Most of the songs on the band's first album, Fallen, are on here except for "Hello". The two other songs that you may not recognize are "Breathe No More" (a ballad) and "Farther Away" (a harder song complete with an awesome drum and guitar-heavy intro). Both are songs that were written before the band's first album. You also have a cover of Korn's "Thoughtless" (which I personally think is better than the original) as well as "Missing", a track that was recorded pre-Fallen. "Missing" is a beautiful song presumably about suicide. No songs from the band's second album, the Open Door, are on this disc as this was recorded before that album was released.
Now let's move on to the DVD. The DVD contains the live performances of each of the songs included on the CD. It's great to see an entire Evanescence concert with your own eyes (especially for those people who haven't had the chance to watch a live Evanescence show). Highlights include the audience singing the chorus of "My Immortal" and the intro to "Haunted". You then have all four music videos for the singles that were released from Fallen, "Bring Me to Life", "Going Under", "My Immortal", and "Everybody's Fool".
The best part of the DVD is the bonus footage. Highlights include bloopers (on stage as well as press stuff), pranks (mostly from the band's last concert from this tour), and a ton of behind the scenes footage (on the tour bus as well as pre-show stuff).
Now onto the negatives. As for the cd, Amy's voice could be better. There are some pitchy spots that make me cringe but that is expected as most of the band's songs consist of Amy holding out notes and singing in full voice. Other than that, I have no problems with the cd. As for the dvd, the quality of the actual concert is iffy. There's a lot of special effects that take away from the show and way too many shots of the audience.
If you're a big Evanescence fan (or even a casual one), pick up this set. The behind the scenes stuff is worth the cost alone.
CD/DVD Combos.......2007-06-05
I wasn't sure how many stars to give this. I do give the live performance on the CD five stars. But the DVD performance of the setlist was horrible. I couldn't even finish it. The cuts annoyed me horribly and I could only get through one song. I don't what it is, but do the people today have that short attention span. I know for myself I can watch a band for about 2 hours. I'm 21 years old and I couldn't keep up with the cuts that the director decided to use.
Anyway, I suggest just getting the CD of this combo off of a friend or iTunes. Amy Lee has an excellent voice live and has energy. I love this band and I can't wait to see them on the Family Values Tour this summer. At least I don't have to deal with the horrible editing.
enlightening.......2007-06-03
I really enjoy this purchase, but I'm a fan too. I enjoyed the music videos, the concert footage, the music, the singing, and the behind the scenes look at their life on the road. I really think this is worth having in your collection, if you like Evanescence.Anywhere But Home (w/ bonus DVD)

If Nirvana's Nevermind heralded alternative's ascendancy into the mainstream, Creed's mega-successful 1997 debut showed just how quickly--and craftily--alt.rock's musical hallmarks could be utterly co-opted by it. Fueled by vocalist Scott Stapp's Weiland-inspired growl, Creed rode the Seattle pop-suffused string of hits included here to become one of the 90's most successful rock acts--if one whose level of critical revile nearly matched its multi-million sales. This CD/DVD combo features 13 of the band's signature performances (including all eight of its number one singles), songs that often turn on a Christianity-inspired message that could be as opaque (the anthemic "Higher") as it was overt ("My Own Prison," "What's This Life For"). The accompanying DVD completes the career retrospective, anthologizing nine of the band's videos along with previously unreleased live performances of "Torn," "Higher" and "Weathered." --Jerry McCulley

Better Christian manhood through Rock!.......2007-07-25
Of greater interest than just Christian Rock fans. In fact, maybe it's Christianity aimed at the secular crowd?
One of the few recent additions to my Classic Rock collection that stretched back to Cream, there's more classics to be found here than you can shake a stick at. Outstanding topicality. It demonstrates than religion need not be wimpy or emasculated or effimate, nor out of the mainstream. Scott Stapp sets a better standard of manhood for us all.
If you like CREED, then this is a nice compilation (plus there is a bonus!).......2007-07-03
As my title said: "If you like CREED, then this is a nice compilation (plus there is a bonus!)" ...It's worth the money!
The bonus I'm referring to, is a DVD that comes with this CREED Greatest Hits CD.
The songs are very crisp and well arranged. They will not disappoint.
Creed's Greatist Hits was a pleasant surprise........2007-06-15
My friend intruduced me to Creed a few months ago when he played his Creed Greatist Hits on his X-Box. At first, I just thought it was just "sissy rock" as I put it, but as I listened to it more and more, I found that it was actually pretty good. Now I view Creed as a pretty good band. I burned his Greatist Hits to my iTunes so I could listen to it more. After listening to it, I decided I liked it, but not enough to buy all their previous cds. Anyway, if you've heard a couple of Creed songs but don't know where to go, this is a good place to start. If you like it, you can decide for yourself whether to actually buy the rest of their cds.
Best Tracks (in my opinion)-One, With Arms Wide Open, and Bullets.
Despite the band's multiple faults, their music works.......2007-05-21
When criticizing Creed given all the choices it's hard to know where to start:
- Their music certainly borrows "heavily" from others. For example, "My Sacrifice" contains a repetitive guitar riff straight out of Zep's "Kashmir" and "Bullets" sounds like a bad out-take from a track that didn't make the cut for Soundgarden's debut album;
- No matter how much the band tries to emulate Seattle grunge, Stapp's voice couldn't even compete with Chris Cornell's of Soundgarden on Cornell's worst day;
- Stapp's faith seems less than sincere and more of a commercial angle.
But with all that oddly the music still works and is of high enough quality to more than compensate for the glaring weaknesses. Highlights like "Higher", "My Sacrifice", "My Own Prison", "One Last Breath", "Arms Wide Open" and "What's This Life For" get a listen whenever they're played. And the lesser knowns like "What If", "One" and "Weathered" are adequate fillers.
It's not hard to figure out why Creed only made a couple albums before packing it in; they simply ran out of material when there was nothing left to be "heavily influenced" by and Stapp's questionable faith marked by backstage XXX videos and public drunkenness wasn't sufficient to see them through. But for all their faults, they're about the most digestable of all the grunge/post-grunge copy bands out there. If you've avoided Creed thus far but like grunge, I'd strongly suggest you give this Greatest Hits a chance.
I love it.......2007-05-16
If you are a Creed fan, this is a great item to have.

Maken & Clancy Collection.......2006-11-04
This group has long brought us the songs of Ireland - both sides. And they continue to do it well.
Great Music.......2005-09-22
This music is a collection of heart-felt songs. There is joy and sadness, delight and despair ... the entire range of feelings ... but mostly there is ... fun ... when listening to "The Makem & Clancy Collection".
These numbers are not just a lot of slick productions ... with their impersonal lyrics and assembly-line melodies. They are (to me) music at its most down-to-earth and its most enjoyable.
"A Place in the Choir" starts things off, and we're led to believe that ... what is to follow will be a standard, harmless series of Irish ballads ... but, the very next song ... "The Cobbler" let's us in on the truth ... and we are taken into the heart of the Makem/Clancy appeal ... the deeply held opinions and feelings of men who care about people.
"The Dutchman" is a beautiful and touching ballad about a simple man and his loving wife. "Willie McBride" is an anti-war statement ... and an effective one. "Morning Glory" is a rousing song with a funny twist. "Ballad of St. Anne's Reel" is a nice song about a traveller. "Gentle Annie" is a heart-felt tribute to, well, Annie. "Rambles of Spring" is an appropriately fun and rollicking song to end the CD (tape) with ... but the gem of the collection is "The Band Played Waltzing Matilda". It sort-of has to catch a hold of you (before you will think it's special), but once it does, you are very much taken by the story and they effective way it is sung.
Some of these songs were recorded live ... the CD is a nice mixture of live and studio recorded music ... and the audience clearly has a deep affection for these boys ... as is easy to understand.
But this CD would make a nice gift ... here is some real music ... as perhaps music was intended to be played.
The Quintessential Folk Album.......2003-02-25
I've listened to this album since childhood, and it is probably the most treasured CD in my collection. In particular, "The Ballad of St. Anne's Reel", "Four Green Fields", "Willie McBride", and "The Band Played Waltzing Matilda" stand out. A must have for any Folk and/or Irish music fan.
Jubilation, Joy, Poignancy and Power..........2002-02-10
This is one of the best of the "Clancy Brothers, Tommy Makem, all as a group, some solo albums, some with just two singers, some with moms, grandmas and kids" genre. There are now so many "Clancy/Makem" collections, collaborations, compilations and re-issues of original LP's that it is hard to keep everything straight. This one is just Liam Clancy and Tommy Makem getting lucky and putting out an album in the late 1980's that combined wacky fun and bitter protest and made both succeed. "A Place in the Choir" and "The Garden Song" are bright, brief offerings worth the purchase price all by themselves. But then you get "The Dutchman" and "The Band Played Waltzing Matilda" and my favorite of the bitter anti-war songs, "Willie McBride" as well! Everything on this one is listenable, but half are brilliant. If you already like these guys, add this item to the collection. If you want a good introduction to the world of Clancy/Makem, one that shows the innocence as well as the somber side of things Irish, you cannot go wrong buying this CD.
Sajex & Philbin Collection.......2001-08-18
I like Tommy Makem & Liam Clancy and I like their CD Makem & Clancy Collection and it is cool.
This is funny? Sajex & Philbin Collection is silly. Pat Sajex is Tommy Makem and Regis Philbin is Liam Clancy and that is funny if Tommy Makem was Pat Sajex on Wheel of Fortune and Liam Clancy was Regis Philbin on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire. That's silly.
The songs I like is The Dutchman, The Garden Song, Willie McBride & Ballad of St. Ann's reel my favorite songs.
This is a cool CD of Makem & Clancy Collection.

good memories for me and fun "new" songs for my children.......2007-06-27
We had ordered this for "The Dukes of Hazzard" theme song for our 4yr old and our whole family has fallen in love with the cd. It makes me want to share some of the old fun and simple shows with my children. I forgot about some of those shows. It brings back good memories for my husband and me and the songs are new and exciting for our children. It's a nice change from children's cd's, but our children still think it's fun. The sound quality is good and the songs included on the cd are a great mix. I would definately recommend this one.

A great debut item.......2007-07-22
Until about 10 years ago, the first three Clancy Brothers albums were only available on trashy reissues that had terrbile sound quality. Now, here they are remastered and restored for future generations to enjoy. The Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem would become the biggest names in Irish folk music throughout the 1960's and 1970's, performing all over the world, including biannual concerts at Carnegie Hall in NYC. The very first album they ever recorded was done in a kitchen using only harmonica and some sparse guitar. Otherwise, it was just the four of them belting out traditional Irish songs. When that release (also called Rising of the Moon) was deemed unsuitable, the group went back in 1959 and rerecorded this album, augmented by professional musicians. It is a fantastic debut record which showes the great potential that these artists posessed. Hopefully the very first album will surface someday on a CD release, but until then, I will continue to enjoy this second version of a great album.
Also available are "Come Fill Your Glass With Us" (second album), and "The Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem" (third album).
WHEN THE HARP WAS CRUSHED BENEATH THE CROWN .......2006-04-18
The following review is being used to comment on several of the Clancy Brothers with Tommy Makem recordings. The obvious musical skills, talent and commitment to craftsmanship of this group during its history need no comment by me. Nor does their commitment to keeping alive the Irish folk tradition. Thus, the criterion for review is whether the works represents the political traditions associated with the historic struggle for independence from the English.
A word. As I developed a quasi- leftist political consciousness in my youth I also, in an unsystematic and for the most part then unconscious manner, developed an interest in what is today is called roots music. Initially this was reflected in my first love-the Blues. During the early sixties, under the influence of Dave Van Ronk at first, then Bob Dylan, Pete Seeger, Woody Guthrie and the rest I developed an interest in folk music, then at the height of its revival. It is through this process that I came to appreciate the work of the artists under review. This is odd, and I will explain why. I was actually reared on the material presented here by my maternal grandfather, a great supporter of the Irish Republican Army. I gained from him my own romantic attachment to the exploits of the IRA in 1916 and beyond until independence. Although my own political evolution since then has led me away from political support to the IRA I still love the old songs which represent the spirit of Irish national identity and aspirations for national liberation historically suppressed by the bloody English.
A word about the songs presented here. The liner notes included with the CD are helpful here. The songs range in subject from `The Rising of the Moon' at the time of Wolfe Tone and the United Irishman, probably the last time that a united, independent, non-sectarian single Irish state was possible, to `Kevin Barry' and `Sean Treacy' just before the partition in 1921, creating the mess that still confronts us politically today. That said, as these lines are being written we are approaching the 90th Anniversary of the Easter Uprising of 1916. The vision that James Connolly and others of a Social Republic proclaimed at the General Post Office still waits. In short, there is still work to be done, North and South, united or as independent states. Listen to these songs to understand where we have come from and why we still need to fight.
Rebellion and transcendence.......2002-04-20
A timeless album from the boys, and a great collection of songs. When I was growing up (in England), just about every household we ever went to had this album - even a lot of English folk music fans loved the Clancies and Tommy M. You can't be a Folk fan and not love Irish music.
My one regret is that this album lacks a traditional version of Wearin' O The Green (the Wolfe Tones covered it on Profile). Like so many classic Irish rebel songs, Rising Of The Moon was written about the 1798 United Irishmen uprising, and is the same air as WOTG, but lyrically it lacks some of The Green's power. WOTG was about the banning of the shamrock and St. Patrick's Day by the English, and when they sang "They're hanging men and women there, for the wearin' o' the green" they weren't kidding.
This beautifully remastered CD contains a very informative booklet, which gives something of the history of each song, and which singer is featured, as well as details about each of the boys, including Pat's former IRA connections. Street cred, or what?
There are so many standout songs here, including Tipperary Far Away (sometimes known as Sean Tracy) and The Wind That Shakes The Barley, which features the golden voice of Tommy Makem. While Tommy's version is quite simply the best rendition ever by a male, the greatest version by a female remains Lisa Gerrard's version on Toward The Within by Dead Can Dance (available through Amazon).
Truly a wonderful album, full of love, passion and ancient wisdom.
Early Clancy stuff, seriously presented..........2001-12-30
I have this album on vinyl issued on the Tradition label. There is a story, probably not true, that the boys recorded these songs in their kitchen around l956. It doesn't matter. If you like the Clancys and/or songs of the Irish uprisings, it is a must own. I have played it to death over the years, and had to buy a cassette reissue when my last turntable failed. Undoubtedly, one of these days I will buy this CD to replace the tape. I like almost everything on this collection. These are hymns of death, bravery, oppression, betrayal, guerilla warfare, grief and loss. Doesn't sound like fun, but it is great music. Later in their careers, the Clancys put out some great humorous songs, drinking songs, love songs...but this one is different. If you have an interest in Ireland's struggle against Britain, and sometimes the fight between factions of Irishmen, this is essential.

The linkage between consumerism and popular music finds a strange analogue in William Fries, a.k.a. C.W. McCall. Trained in graphic design and advertising, Fries invented his trucker persona while working on a bakery ad campaign and helped drive the trucker craze of the '70s with a slew of novelty tunes, few of which have aged very well. McCall described his delivery as a "walkin', talkin' singin' style," though emphasis always falls on his deadpan spoken wit. McCall never took himself seriously, and tunes like "Crispy Critters" and "'Round the World with the Rubber Duck" will inspire a laugh at just how weird the '70s could be. --Roy Kasten

The best CD when traveling to Colorado.......2007-07-28
I was so excited when I saw this in CD, when we were kids we listened to the 8 track on many trips to Colorado. It is a combination of songs that will hit almost every emotion.
What a great find!.......2007-02-14
Back in high school, yes too many years to be counting!!! This was one that we enjoyed listening to. Lots of fun.
I've now introduced my teenage boys to these fun musical stories, and they are played over and over and OVER!!!
Nice to have a family CD in the car that everyone enjoys!!! Fun entertainment for the kids and adults alike.
Looking for the rest of the songs to be released as well!!!
Fun and interesting songs.......2006-05-18
C.W. McCall (nope, there was no one in the band with that name) was the creation of Billy Dale Fries. The idea for the group and the songs came from a series of advertising features Fries created for the Metz Baking Company, that included a trucker named C.W. McCall! Well, the rest, as they say, is history! Combining the work of Billy Fries, Chip Davis (of Mannheim Steamroller fame) and a number of other talents, C.W. McCall produced a number of songs that were quite popular in their time.
I must admit, I am getting nostalgic at this point in my life, and I really wanted to hear some of the great C.W. McCall songs again, so my loving wife went out and got this album for me. It's a great album, full of the great songs that I remember. Yeah, Convoy was their biggest hit, but it actually isn't one of my favorites. I love The Silverton, Four Wheel Drive, and Aurora Borealis.
I am so happy playing this album, which I do all the time. My son said that it reminded him of that trucker movie (Smokey and the Bandit), and it is from the same era and genre. Overall, I think this is a great album, with lots of fun and interesting songs. I love this album, and highly recommend it.
this is a very good C.W. album but not the best.......2006-03-19
This is one of the better albums of C.W.McCall's tunes.
I've been looking for years for a copy of the Wolf Creek Pass album. I have it on a worn out 8-track and can't seem to locate it anywhere else. With songs like Nite Rider, Old Sloan,Classified, 4-Wheel Drive, Old Thirty and more. This one will serve as a substitute till I can find one.
They should make every community planning board.......2005-07-24
Listen to "There won't be no country Music there won't be No Rock and Roll" before they vote on things.
When I listen to this song I realize how accurate he was almost 30 years ago.
"And the whole damn world is gonna be made of styrene"
Remember the popular advertising commercial of the Indian crying at all of the pollution. It was playing roughly the same time.
Lot of good old songs. Folk songs the way it was meant to be.
