The Psycho-Social CD [Explicit Lyrics]

If you're into raps about worldly things like 9-to-5 jobs, male-female relations, and platinum pinky rings, you might want to click over to another album. Jedi Mind Tricks--Ikon the Verbal Hologram and Stoupe the Enemy of Mankind--flip bushels of out-there, sci-fi rhymes on this experimental and sinister underground favorite from 1997. Certainly, tales of Illuminati-esque government conspiracies, alien experiments, and other stratospherical explorations have never sounded so unique, aided here by ominous violins and creepy operatic squeals. "I Who Have Nothing" (complete with Shirley Bassey sample) should get votes for being one of the most depressing songs of all time; however, for folks blunted into Top 40 submission, it may well have the opposite effect. On the other hand, JMT's heavy use of religious references and plodding lo-tech beats is not for everyone. Borderline geniuses or Star Trek geeks gone mad? The choice is yours. --Dalton Higgins

4 out of 5 stars Not As Good As Violent By Design But Damn Good.......2006-08-12

What do you get when you mix early Killah Priest And sci fiction movies together, you get Jedi Mind Trick. There a DJ/MC type of group that dare to be completly different fron any thing out there. This CD get you ready for Violent By Design because of the scary back drop and deep lyrics. Whith there own sound thanks to producer and member Stoup you can call them trail blazers. You can tell Vinnie Paz(the other member) feel right at home over spooky beats like The Immaculate Conception,Communion:The Crop Circle Thesis,Chinese Water Torture, and many others. JMT makes many religious refferansis they kind of remind me of some of the Wu stuff they also sampel there voices a couple times. But it not all SCIFI and biblical, check out the the sad vide on I Who Have Nothing and the battle ready Get This Low and Tug Of War. I would not recomend this album to the soft at heart. Only to the underground heads and people that are familer with the Jedi way.

Top Songs-Winds of Change(Dope beats and lyrics)-Chinese Water Torture-Neva Antiquated-As it was in the beginning-Books of Blood
Communion-Souls from the streets

God this Sytoupe guy is so damn sick on the beats and he has always been. The Lyrics are not to bad but damn the beats are grimey and sick again.Stoupe is one of the greatest producers at finding just pure grimey warrior sounding beats. This goes for fans of Organized Konfusion and Wu Tang Clan and Cold Vein guys and Company Flow. I believe there were different rappers on here

P.S.-Probally not as good as Violent by Design but still dope

5 out of 5 stars lyrical geniuses.......2006-05-08

The tracks on this album are uninterrupted raw and stupifying. All listeners of real hip hop know Jedi Mind Tricks -- few really get it. It's philosophy - the closest thing we have to real insightful shamanistic intellectualism. This album is just the beginning of Jedi Mind Tricks' journey. Violent by Design is more refined and possibly the best album this century. Visions of Ghandi has gotten SHAT on, but anyone who takes the time to view Jedi Mind Tricks' more recent stuff should emerge from the depths of subconscience knowing that these artists are going further and further into their own minds, uncovering some of the scariest truths of our age. buy this and support real rap.

3 out of 5 stars More like 3.5.......2006-05-04

but someone has to try and even the scales a bit. This c.d. is not 4.5 stars, but it is pretty good for a start to an excellent rap group. Overall, the best songs are the ones with Apathy in them, who happened to be incredibly young at the time of his verses on the tracks, which just displays how incredible he was and will be. Apostle's Creed, Omnicron, and 3 Immortals are the best tracks on the album, anything else is pretty much skippable if you're into the real JMT of the years after that.

2 out of 5 stars ......what happened to vinnie.......2005-12-12

his voice is raw as hell but he needs better lyricism..... all of his lyrics in his new stuff after violent by disign are just average and hes sounding like a amature.. I mean im getting to the point where i think Jus Allah wrote his stuff for him on that album. Hes so lucky that he met stoupe with his sick ass beats... Im so sick of hearing him say in like every song "ima put [insert a number] shots in your spine, baby (or daddy mommy or cuzin) what ever its getting old...I swear in like every song he says daddy/mommy/cuzzin for 3 lines or more at end....................He needs "The God" Jus Allah back at his side. peace
