Give Eve credit for not succumbing to hip-hop's fickle feminine fetishization. While Foxy Brown and Lil' Kim have degenerated into scantily clad clichés, Eve (the self-described "pitbull in a skirt") has maintained her rougher edge without sacrificing a whit of her sexy energy. "Pretty with the heels on, or shitty with the Timbos," is how she puts it on "Gangsta Bitches," one of the standout tracks from this, her second, album. Eve's clearly progressed as a lyricist, though her flow is occasionally on-the-beat clunky. That aside, she switches easily from anti-hater anthems ("Cowboy") to bitter revenge fantasies (the power-guitar-driven "You Had Me, You Lost Me") to straight-up bragging ("Got What You Need"). Throughout, she's assured and poised, matching Teena Marie's manic torch-song energy on "Life Is So Hard" and outshining most of her Ruff Ryder partners elsewhere. But, secure as she may be, Eve realizes that the game doesn't always last: "I'm trying to make a quick flip, nigga. Can you dig this?" she asks on "Cowboy." Sexy and smart. The track listing reads like a who's who of the nu-metal genre, with brand-new songs from chart toppers including Godsmack, Creed, and Nickelback. Especially strong are System of a Down's orchestrated-meets-intense "Streamline," Sevendust's fervent and unique "Corrected," and Nickelback's raucous, edgy, raw rocker "Yanking Out My Heart," while Creed's typically musically morose five-minute ballad "To Whom It May Concern" will certainly delight fans. not my kind of music.......2007-07-05

I got this soundtrack when i bought a used copy of the scorpion king dvd, as it came with the dvd. Now, in the movie, these songs work, it's a perfect fit for the action on-screen. However, as stand alone songs, they jut come off as loud and noisy, not really songs as much as people screaming. But if you like this type of music, i suppose it's a good mix of bands, just not really for me.

Can't Get Enough!!.......2007-06-17

I bought this cd after seeing the movie. IT'S DA BOMB! a great combo of hard rock a new age stuff. my top 4 songs are:
1."I stand alone"-godsmack-heavy guitar and great vocals by sulley!
2."ironhead"-Ozzy O. and R. Zombie- freaky but cool. neat new vocals and good effects
3."Glow"-coal chamber-i'd never heard of this group before and didn't know what 2 expect. it has harsh vocals{in a good way} and cool guitar
4."yankin out my heart"-Nickelback-to this day i still love nickelback, this song is fast-paced fantastic music.
Note:i lost my first copy of this cd. i loved it so much i went here and bought it again. if u don't like this album your just weird!!

my personal perfect compilation.......2006-07-27

For every great movie, there has to be a great soundtrack, right? Well, this is one movie that proves to not be the exception to the rule, to the delight of musiclovers everywhere. Here are my opinions on the individual tracks:

1. I Stand Alone - Godsmack- My favorite song off the soundtrack and my favorite from Godsmack- hell, one of my favorite songs of alltime. There are some songs on this particular soundtrack that were just perfect for the soundtrack, and this is one of them. Godsmack recorded this song exclusively for this compilation, but the response to the track was so strong, they recorded it and put it as their first single from their 2003 album Faceless. Perfect song in every way.
2. Set It Off (Tweaker Remix) - P.O.D.: Another awesome song, this one remixed from Set It Off, from their Satellite CD. Cool beats and it's got Sonny Sandoval, so you can't really go wrong with it.
3. Streamline - System Of A Down: Loved System of a Down on here. Another good song for the ST.
4. To Whom It May Concern - Creed: I love Creed! And this song, from their Human Clay CD. Sweet song.
5. Yanking Out My Heart - Nickelback: Another song recorded specifically for this soundtrack, Nickelback really puts out a good time on this song and it really shows in one of the best songs on the CD.
6. Losing My Grip - Hoobastank: Not one of the best songs, but still pretty good.
7. Only The Strong - Flaw: don't know why, but I really didn't like this song that much. Never heard of Flaw before this CD and it really didn't give me that much reason to check them out more...
8. Iron Head - Rob Zombie feat. Ozzy Osbourne: A perfect combination (although not as good as Rob Zombie and Drowning Pool from the Daredevil soundtrack) and one of my favorites.
9. My Life - 12 Stones: I LOVE 12 STONES!! I am a huge fan of all their music, esp. this one, from their 2001 debut CD. This is my second favorite on here.
10. Along The Way - Mushroomhead: Not bad, but not the best.
11. Breathless - Lifer: Meh. Not bad,
12. Corrected - Sevendust: Sweet song.
13. Burn It Black - Injected: Pretty good for a band I've never heard of before this.
14. 27 - Breaking Point: Another decent compilation for this CD.
15. Glow - Coal Chamber: Here is a really good track. My third favorite.

If only I could get you to see the awesomeness of I Stand Alone... oh well. Happy rocking, everyone.

Suprisingly Great soundtrack.......2006-06-14

1. I stand alone- Godsmack

A hard, strong begining track. I like it heavy vocals, very fitting for the movie

2. Set it off- P.O.D

a awesome mixture of rap and nu-metal one of my favorites on the CD, i always loved this band

3. Break You- Drowning Pool

I like the begining of the song but it slowly gets more annyoing and annoying but overall is allright

4. Streamline- System of a Down

I love SOAD I really do and the Toxicity album is one of my favorite albums EVER made. I like this song but there is a lot better songs by SOAD so I dont know why they chose this one its ok.

5. To whom it may concern- Creed

I like creed but this song didnt seem to fit, i think it was a little to slow im not sure, it wasnt horrible but not great.

6. Yanking Out My Heart - Nickelback

I like Nickelback and i wont complain this is a good song starts fast and stays that way till the end

7. Losing My Grip - Hoobastank

Great song, i like the vocals but when the instuments come in its awesome

8. Only The Strong - Flaw

Another one of my favorites on the CD. a nice mix of rock, alternitive and metal

9. Iron Head - Rob Zombie feat. Ozzy Osbourne

I like ozzy because and rob zombie and together they rock, this song is a little on the freaky side but i like it.

10. My Life - 12 Stones

a great song, awesome 'nuff said

11. Along The Way - Mushroomhead

I am a huge mushroomhead fan, when i saw this was on there i bought it, and let me tell u its a awesome song, no one is really like them its just a awesome song

12. Breathless - Lifer

starts cool and just gets better and better

13. Corrected - Sevendust

I could live without it so/so not the best yet not the worst

14. Burn it black - Injected

Sweet verses, awesome Chorus, great song cant skip it

15. 27 - Breaking point

Reminds me of the hoobastank but this one is a little better all though the werid verses kind of hurts it a little

16. Glow - Coal Chamber

I like coal chamber, they could have chosen a better song but I like this song still gets right to the point!

Burn it Black...more like Gold.......2006-02-18

This soundtrack hits all the right notes and smashing through all the right walls if you get my drift. From open to close it's brilliant. With new tracks penned for the film by Godsmack, Mushroomhead and System of a Down this is one album that is sure to please. "I STAND ALONE" is a great way to open, and the video is a great one at that. POD is always lacking in my book but the introduction of the newly reformed Drowning Pool elicits appreciation as does Systems melodicly challenged masterpiece "STEAMLINE"...and by melodically challenged I mean that it doesnt know what it wants to be (but thats how it is with Systems stuff and it works) Creed slow things down and then hand things off the Nickelback who run with it turning out great rock with a southern feel. They truly are Country's answer to rock and roll. Hoobastank do alright, not my favorite band but not a bad selection, while Flaw rip things apart with "ONLY THE STRONG". It's such a shame this band fell apart because they were one heck of a kick @$$ band. "IRON HEAD" is a great heavy track from none other than Satan himself (oh wait, which one is Satan again?) Rob Zombie and Ozzy. 12 Stones were welcomed to the stage with "MY LIFE" which has promise...to bad they never lived up to the promise...Mushroomhead is always good for something and Lifer, winners of MTV's Battle of the Band turn out a really awsome track "BREATHLESS"...it's just too bad their debut CD bombed bad...Sevendust turn out a unique rocker in "CORRECTED" and prove they are still in the game. Injected, a band I've never heard before, give one awsome standout track in "BURN IT BLACK" while Breaking Points "27" fails to dissapoint (thats a good thing)...The closer "GLOW" by Coal Chamber, while not terrible, failed to excite me about the release of Coal Chambers upcoming CD "Dark Days" and while I purchased the CD anyway, this song is still not one of my favorites...but it does have that middle-eastern vibe to the riff and so it fits well to the feel of the movie I guess. All in all this is one Soundtrack that needs to me in your collection!

More Eve.......2007-05-26

Eve, a tough uncompomising rapper combinating female anthems and non-nonsense uptempos, had great success with her debut album "Ruff Ryders First Lady" that was produced mostly by Swizz Beats from just the Ryff Ryders group, hence the name. The album was one of the best Hip Hop albums of that year, and was also critically acclaimed, but she didn't get alot of hits from that one. 2 years later in 2001, comes her sophmore album that is quite simular acually. But Swizz Beats had less impact on the songs this time, producing only 5 and letting other Ruff Ryder Protegés (Teflon & Dj Shock) and then Dr. Dre and his crew shining on some songs. Like other reviewers already mentioned, If you liked Eve's debut you'll like this one too, It's an equally strong effort with great songs combinating both street credability/commercial appeal and great lyrics that sometimes are quite deep aswell. First song "Cowboy" is a decent starter, but it's song number 2 and 3 that made Eve a hit-machine. The first one being the Latin inspired Swizz Beats song "Who's That Girl" (bigger hit in Europe then in Usa) and then "Let Me Blow Ya Mind" a commercial beat orineted song that reached a fantastic #2 position on the Bilboard charts. That song feautured Gwen Stefani and production from Dr. Dre and his protegés Mike Elizondo and Scott Storch (both of them are today top producers on their own). The album moves on with a rendez-vu from her last album called "You Had Me, You Lost Me" a female anthem about leaving a man that can't behave. A super catchy Swizz Beats song called "Got What You Need" with Drag-On, why wasn't it a single?. Two other female rappers Da Brat and Trina joins in on "Gangsta B__ch" a decent song aswell while Dre's crew shines again on "That's What It Is" where Styles P appears. We'll find DMX again on "Scream Double R" a thug song, and ditto with "Thug in the Street" with Lox and Drag-On. The oddest song on this album is a reggae cover of "No No No" with Bob Marley's son Damien, it Feels abit out of place actually. "You Ain't Gettin' None" is more girl power. One of the best and deepest songs however is "Life is So Hard" with Teena Marie that makes a spectacular performence. Closer is called "Be Me", a cut that feautures Mashonda (now married to Swizz Beats) It got great beats but lyrics that mostly seems to deal about materialism and her own archivements. But based on what happened to her during these two years, you could understand her reactions. Conclusion is: Eve plays safe and makes a second album with simular concept, what differs the two albums most is the two standouts singles that helped her get big chart success. Other then that, there's many simularities between the two albums and if you liked her first you like her second to. There isn't much else to say then to give her props for a another good album.

With most rappers, after having a double platinum debut they lose their hunger and become way too cocky. This is not the case with Eve. On her sophomore album, she is more hungry than ever before. She is confident, not cocky, and delivers some of the best rhymes ever to come out of the mouth of a female emcee. (And she even does some singing on here! And she can actually carry a tune.) The beats on here, once again, are top notch on every song. There are a few too many guest appearances, but that really proves to be this album's only flaw. This album is a huge improvement from her okay first, Let There Be Eve... In my eyes, this is a hip hop classic and everyone should at least give it a listen. I bump this one start to finish. I highly recommend.

Look fam, it is what is.......2006-07-02

Eve was alright at best when she first dropped. But after this album she went downhill wit a big snowball chasin her. How can you be this rough tough chick, wit' this girly a** production. Eve sold out to sell records. You don't believe me, check out the songs and videos of her first album and compare it to her 2 after that. Then ask yourself is she as hard as she says. On top of that I hate most female rappers anyway.

"Why You Listen To The Rest, You Got The Best Right Here",.......2006-06-17

She is one hundred percent right. Eve's second album is no sophomore slump. Gone the short blond locks and in its place a hot red perhaps keeping in theme with the album title Scorpion. She co-wrote every song on the album, except for a couple of the skits. She flawlessly raps over extremely hot beats with sass and style.

Her rhymes flow just as lucidly here as they did on her debut, and she sounds even more confident than before. Given her ensemble cast of producers and guest rappers, she probably should sound confident. When you have Swizz Beatz and Dr. Dre handling the better part of your album, along with a few other tracks handled by Ruff Ryder producers Teflon and DJ Shok. In terms of guests, the Ruff Ryders (DMX, Drag-On, and LOX) make their expected cameos.

The tracks that stands out to me: "Who's That Girl?," "Scream Double R," "Cowboy," "Let Me Blow Ya Mind," and "Life Is Hard," a unique soulful moment late in the album with Teena Marie contributing a diva chorus and Eve dropping some heartfelt lyrics.

At 16 tracks, this album doesn't overreach and really doesn't have too many surprises. There are a few flawed moments where the choruses aren't as catchy as they intend to be, but for the most part Eve plays it safe. If you liked her first album, you'll like this one just the same.

Buy her debut instead.......2006-03-20

I actually own this Eve album and not her debut.

Funny thing is, somebody in Eve's camp told her to soften her image and go pop to sell albums. If that's all you want from hip hop, party/club/radio-friendly music (not meant to sound condescending or belittling, but just stating facts) then buy THIS album.

However, even though I wasn't a fan and never was a hardcore Eve fan, I recognize game.

Eve was on a whole 'nother level on her debut "Ruff Ryder's First Lady (1999)."

She was still down with DMX 'n crew, and her music, in my opinion, was better 4 it.

Hearing tracks on her debut album like "Love Is Blind" (which also had a great video to match the song's tale of women not toleratin' domestic violence), it's hard to hear her rappin' along side Gwen Stefani (great artist) on the poppy, popcorn-flavored "Let Me Blow Ya Mind."

She just totally went from one extreme to the next and her music lost the edge and the sociopolitical bite it otherwise had.

I don't mind the pop, crossover kinda music (it does have its place), I just find myself purchasing and championing more of the underground, real hip hop stuff b/c it doesn't get played on the radio anymore if a rapper's not maintaining the radio status quo.

Great Tribute Album!!!.......2003-05-31

Heard We Will Not Forget on the radio so I thought I would pick it up! What a great compilation of songs. I do alot of driving so I buy many compilation cd's and tapes because I don't have time to do it myself(or I'm just too lazy!). This CD has one great song after another. So if your feeling patriotic THIS IS THE DISC for you!! I checked out the label web site also, they have all the lyrics and artist Bios...great information. I'm a country fan so it was a great surprise to find 2 songs on this disc sung by Buddy Jewel that I just saw on TV for the Nashville Star contest!! Good job Frog & Scorpion I can't wait for the next one!

The Complete CD.......2002-12-09

Well, a review of this material by me is probably unfair, but I am one of the writers that has a song on this CD and will remain anonymous. Originally.....I was a bit skeptical, when asked to be a part of this CD, my luck so far with music compilation ventures has been extremely unrewarding......to say the least! But when I put this album on my CD player and pushed number ONE, and then number TWO and so on and so on!! Boy, I was pleased as punch and so very proud to be a part of this assemblage of writers and artists of this caliber!! THANK YOU LORD for letting my song arrive on the doorsteps of Frog & Scorpion Records thru the listing at Taxi! And thank you to all the other songwriters, producers and singers on this project, I hope my song is as good as the rest that appear on this album........

The clean version is a must have!.......2002-09-27

I used to have the Parental Advisory version. I sold that one a couple of days ago and I picked the clean version up at my library. I love this version more. I will agree with the previous reviewer who said that Eve cusses too much on a couple of songs. But I noticed that the interludes were taken out of the Clean version and a majority of the words were changed around, which I think is awesome! Pick up this disc pronto! It is great!

The king of action music.......2003-01-11

After the successful scores of The Mummy by Jerry Goldsmith and The Mummy Returns by Alan Silvestri, John Debney was hired to score the Mummy prequel - The Scorpion King. This score is just as good as the other two and in some places, even better. Debney gives a swashbuckling, action-adventurous score with a good combination of epic orchestral works and hard rock. "Boo", the opening track, is a hard rock track with plenty of electric guitars and drums with a hint of the main theme thrown in there. "Main Titles" feature a large choir with bold brass and lots of percussion. This is the Cutthroat Island sound that Debney masters successfully. The main theme is a 6 note motif played on strings and powerful brass and is heard in several of the tracks in the score. Some softer and more laid back moments in the score can be found in "Vision of Doom", "I Had A Vision", and "The Scorpion King". But, action music is the highlight of this score and that is what makes the music excel. Parts of "Pickpockets" and "Valley of the Dead" contain racing action music that really gets the heart pumping. The next 2 tracks build up to "Balthazar's Camp" which is an orchestral race. The real solid action music is found in "I've Come For The Woman", "Die Well Assassin", and "Balthazar Arrives" which is nonstop and difficult action music that must wear the orchestra out with driving percussion, meaty brass, frantic strings, and an explosive choir. The final track, "The Scorpion King", ends the score with a full orchestral performance of the main theme. This is a knockout action music score that fans of action music will really enjoy. I seriously recommend it to anyone that likes action music.

Scorpion King Rocks!.......2002-08-31

When "The Scorpion King" was in production, I was hoping for either Jerry Goldsmith or Alan Silvestri to return, as they had made two wonderfull scores for both the first "Mummy" movies.
But none of them would. I was amazed when I heard it - Cutthroat Island`s own John Debney would write the music for the third installment of the series. When I heard that, I knew immidiatley that he would create something that surpassed both of the first scores. And yes, indeed, his score for "The Scorpion King" is a very fine way to finish an incredible trilogy of soundtracks, each one with a spirit of its own. I was worried when I saw the film. It wasn`t announced that this album would even be released until weeks after the film came out. Then, there was only a various artists album available. But fortunatley, they decided to release the original score too, and I can`t bless Varèse Sarabande enough for doing that. "The Scorpion King" offers about 35 minutes of pure, energetic action music and five minutes of calm, beautifull music. John Debney does something which I find very fun - he uses some rock guitars, may be to illustrate the raw power of the great warrior Mathayus (aka The Scorpion King). The opening track, "Boo!" is horrible, but don`t let that scare you off. "The Scorpion King" is mostly an orchestral score, and even the die-hard orchestral score fans will find treat here. Most of the heavy electric guitar parts are at the beginning, so if you don`t like that, then just start listening from track 4. But sometimes, those rock guitars work quite well, when they are not too loud - both "Mathayus Arises" and "Balthazar Arrives" are highlighted by two bars of electric guitars. And if anyone says that "The Scorpion King" is themeless, they are wrong. In fact, it has a theme that appears a lot on this CD. It is a strong, heroic theme, heard very clearly in "Valley of The Dead", which is a striking, choral action cue, and also "Mathayus Arises" which is so heroic I sometimes even want to cry when listening to it.
"Die Well Assasin" is some of the most powerfull climax music I've ever heard. "Balthazar Arrives" is also a highlight, with a lot of tribal chants combined with rock guitars and a massive choir. And the grand finale, "The Scorpion King" closes the score with a Stargate-like majesty, with the main theme heard in it`s full glory with the whole orchestra and chorus in one. It is a very enjoyable track and except for may be "Star Wars", it is the greatest finale I've heard in the year 2002.
Over all, "The Scorpion King" is a superb score. Only a stronger and more memorable theme puts this album off a top star rating.
I think that the exactly 40 minutes of music is a suitable length for this album - if it would have been longer, it would have been too repeatable, but it isn`t. In fact, this is the best score of the series, and when making scores for such films, John Debney clearly shows which genre he belongs too. Great performance by the Hollywood Studio Symphony Orchestra and Chorus is another plus for this album. KNOCKOUT!

Scorpion rock.......2002-06-24

This is work by John Debney. He tried to make this an epic score, like Conan, but also wanted to make it appealing to todays audience by making it rocked up. I think Debney achieved both. This score should have been released instead of that stupide inspired by soundtrack, which was a marketing gimmick, much like they did with Spiderman. How does it match with the other Mummy movies. I think the first score to the Mummy was the best, than the Mummy Returns and then this. Other all it is a great job. It's short at about 40 minutes, which can be due to the cost of having to pay the American players of the Hollywood symphony.

Before I got that I had only heard of Prev from Swollen and Moka as featured on the first Battle Axe compilation. I showed a friend of mine my 2 Battle Axe CDs and he set me up with this beauty and Bad Dreams (before they added "Bring it Home" and ruined it by reproducing the "Fuel Injected model" of song production). I popped Bad Dreams in right away and put off this one until I was bored and popped it in my discman.

I was blown away by the tracks at the beginning and the end of the albums. The middle lags a bit but I can see the attempt at CRAPPY experimentation. At any rate, it is all forgiven by the end of the disc. The 3 minds at work on this disc flow and intertwine so well that on my favourite song that I have been quoting all along ("Antz out of a Job") has all three of them on every chorus basically completing a single idea as one mind.

A must buy for anyone loves 2 or more of these artists individually.

...She's Always Right is one of my favs on this album. This album produced by Moka Only and Rob the Viking and Paul Nice is a heavy hitter no more little leagues for these guys...Moka Only also a talented artist puts in just the right amount of umpf to take this album to the limits it deserves. When you hear Jampacked or Get Stung you will understand what being a Scorpion is all about and the fact all three of the main artists are all "Scorpios" it gives it a sound like no other hip hop album to date..If you haven't heard this album go out right now and get it you will not regret it and you'll be hangin on every word waiting for the next track to play.... I know that there is alot of Battleaxe fans out there, and if you are I strongly recomend you get this album. If you like Swollen Members (who doesn't), you will love this. Abstract Rude, Prevail and Moka Only put together one of the tightest albums I've heard in a while, and with MC's like these three you can't go wrong. ALL the tracks are dope - GET THIS ALBUM!!!!

With two previous releases under their belts, Seattle's Hi Fi Killers (Kevin Lee Oakland and Johnny Horn) are off to a prolific start in their short career. The duo's third release is a bit different from the other two records, Possession and Loaded, which were an amalgam of funk, soul, hip-hop, and dub. As the title implies, Jamaica leaves its imprint on the Killers' newest offering. Oakland and Horn--self-professed reggae junkies--itched to make a reggae record with Jamaican MCs. But there aren't many Jamaican MCs in the Pacific Northwest, so the duo sent a tape of their best dub, reggae, and dancehall loops down to Jamaica, where they hooked up with Clinton Fearon, Blackout, and Scorpion. The result is an authentic, pro-quality record with tuff dancehall rapping and some forward-leaning beats and pieces--the payoff, no doubt, of the duo's adept way with hip-hop, dub, and funk. --Tricia Romano
