Un Poquito Quema'o

Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com
Here is a hot band out of Paris that has an eclectic Latin sound with attitude that rivals the best of Ozomatli and Los Fabulosos Cadillacs. Sergent Garcia weds dance-hall reggae and ska to Cuban son and salsa, and the result is relentlessly upbeat and danceable. The band is 14 members strong and has a big sound that includes horns, turntables, bata drums, congas, guitars, flute, and an excellent piano player. Just try and keep that grin off of your face. The band members may sing in Spanish, but you will find that this CD is about having serious fun in any language. --Jeff Grubb

5 out of 5 stars El Sargento.......2005-09-07

Great album. For those who don't know where this dude is from, he is a former member from the mythic french punk band Ludwig Von 88. I guess he decided to get along with people from all over the world to make ya dance from Cuba to Europe.

5 out of 5 stars (5)Cinco estrellas para el Sargento Garcia!.......2005-08-08

The title says it all, "Un Poquito Quema'O"(y gual que yo, I'm a sergeant too). Buy it!!

You don't need to understand the lyrics (I speak neither Spanish nor French) to understand great music. Try it, you'll love it!

I first heard Sergent Garcia as a guest vocalist on Peret's album "Rey de la Rumba." Garcia and his band are an incredible talent that needs to be discovered in the States. The beauty and rhythm of the Spanish and French language are omnipresent on this disc. The fusion of Cuban son, reggae, rap/hip hop, and salsa blend tremendously well. If you make it past the first four songs, which had me repeating them over and over, the albums entirety will not disappoint. As a lyricist and musician, there is truly no other like el sergento. He is a talent that only comes around once in a generation.
"no te pierdas, no te pierdas, por las pierdas del camino no te pierdas!" Buy this CD.

Awesome! We heard this CD in a Cuban bar in Brest, France and had to know who it was; we ran down the street and bought a copy on the spot. This group is very hard to find in U.S. shops, but they're touring here. I met them on tour in Houston (with Los Van Van, who couldn't compare to the fun these guys were dishing out), and they were still amazed that Americans knew of them. I also have their first CD titled "Viva en Sargento", and it is equally high-energy. I'd love to see that one available here as well. I'd also like to know if anyone has a web site where their tours are listed.
