Cheers [Explicit Lyrics]

Being "down" with hip hop's unholy trinity (50 Cent , Eminem, Dr. Dre) can act as either an absolute blessing or a tremendous burden. Boasting production from the latter two, in addition to knob twiddler extraordinaire Timbaland, one would think that all he'd have to do is phone in his verses and start collecting them big royalty checks. Well, this argument is as thorny as actress Vivica Fox's decision to date 50 Cent. Firstly, Trice's all-star cast of homies so clearly outshine him; Eminem's verse dominates the misogynist "Lady," Dr. Dre's terrific keyboard loops and anti-Ja Rule rhymes stand out on "S*** Hits The Fan;" and 50 Cent and G-Unit fam Lloyd Banks tear up the nihilistic "We All Die One Day," that you start thinking that maybe he should have limited his VIP guest list. On the catchy synthesized club banger "Got Some Teeth" and the loosely autobiographical "Follow My Life," the focus group named Shady Records give Trice some room to demo his unique sense of humor, in particular on the former track where he hopes that his bar-hopping booty calls are not repulsive in the morning when the booze wears off. As expected, the two Nate Dogg collabos ("The Set Up," "Look In My Eyes") are two of the more enjoyable radio-friendly tunes, but they also reveal just how slightly-above average an emcee Trice is. More D12 than 50 Cent in terms of quality, Cheers should have been way more than simply the sum of its notable parts. --Dalton Higgins

better than I thought.......2007-07-07
I'm one of those people who started out in rock thinking anything mainstream is bad (because, let's face it, it usually is). I listened to all my rock-snob friends who said MCR are emo crap and never gave them a chance. Then one day I heard "Welcome to the Black Parade" on MTV and thought, "Now this is some good music." When I found out it was MCR I was immediately appalled and intrigued at the same time. I went out and bought The Black Parade and immediately loved it.
After listening to the Three Cheers singles, I decided that MCR are amazing from going from Three Cheers to The Black Parade. I thought the singles were mediocre at best, and definitely emo. But then I listened to the rest of the album and I was plesantly surprised. Though the entire album is pop-rock, and yes, still a bit emo, it really isn't a bad thing. In the context of the album, the singles seem less emo and more mainstream, straight-up rock. As a guitar player, I can respect Ray's playing a lot. In a mainstream music industry where guitar solos are as rare as fat girls (more of both of these things would make me endlessly happy), hearing a good solo now and again is really refreshing and uplifting.
The highlights for me are "I'm Not Okay (I Promise)" which at first really just made me cringe at the melodrama. But that comes with the territory with this band. Also the other two singles ("Helena" and "Ghost of You"), plus my favorite, "Cemetary Drive." The rest of the songs are entertaining, and there isn't one that I don't like. While some are forgettable and they all seem to run together after only a few listens, if you give the CD a chance you'll begin to distinguish between songs.
Though it's not nearly as good as The Black Parade, Three Cheers is a good solid CD. Don't expect miracles, but it's better than what most rock-snobs give it credit for. And that's coming from a fellow rock-snob.
CLASSIC ALL THE WAY.......2007-06-20
This album is outstanding. I am a big System of a Down fan, and usually can't put there stuff down. I have been an MCR fan for about six months. I just happened to hear I'm Not OK, and thought it was one of the best songs I ever heard. I don't listen to radio much, nor do I watch a bunch of music videos. But I have to say it impressed me enough to go buy this cd, and between this and the Black Parade, I am astonished. I literally have not listened to anything else, but maybe a few times since I started listening to them. Once you get hooked on one song long enough, you end up getting hooked on something else. There isn't a single bad song on this cd. The lyrics and the music, just go so great together. Do yourself a favor and join the parade, you won't regret it.
Not love at first hear, takes a few listens to fully appreciate.......2007-06-08
I originally bought it because the three singles that came off of it were so good, and I already had their new cd and loved it. At first I wasn't that impressed, but it grew on me. Probably doesn't hurt that I've seen them in concert twice since I bought it, and they played a lot of songs off this at their concerts.
If only for "Bury Me in Black"-get this one-some good acoustics too.......2007-05-24
This one has a range from very Metallica-ish (Bury Me in Black)-good hooks and riffs to "Interlude" acoustic & pure. Has the big hits like "Helena"-the tribute to Gerard & Mikey's Grandma and "I'm not okay"-fun to sing in heavy traffic. Bet you'll see several of these on a "best hits" if ever there should be one in the future. Yet, another must have.
I love it.......2007-05-07
I think this is one of the best cds!!i rearry like it!

Customer Reviews:
Two tracks I really like.......2007-07-21
The Mission Impossible theme is performed well.
The Fireball theme is actually much improved on this version. I prefer the orchestra and the vocals over the original.
Quantity Over Quality.......2007-01-15
As a musician myself, I know too well that one of the most important ingredients in ANY performance (live or recorded) is passion. The recordings here generally lack the same passion and sheer drama of the originals. Much of the instrumentation has been reduced to a cheezy, thin, plastic synthesized replica. The performances are simply a watered-down lackluster version of the classic originals. If it were not for the sheer volume of tracks compiled here, I would have rated the comp only "one star".
Mediocre.......2006-05-17
The sound quality for this collection isn't much better than the samples offered by Amazon.
One Hundred Greatest TV Themes.......2005-08-06
I have watched almost all the shows that are on these 4 cd's. Many were made before I started watching TV. Most I've seen once or twice before.
Pretty close to original recordings.......2005-07-24
Definitely not as good as the originals. You'll probably notice the slight differences since it's stuff you saw and listened to every week or everyday in reruns growing up, but it's still an amazing collection.

50 Times And Counting..........2006-10-04
I have owned this CD since the day it came out and I have not stopped listening to it. I like all rap and hip-hop for the most part. I love lyric, social driven rap like The Roots and Talib Kweli and Mos Def, but I also have no problem throwing crunk club ish in the deck like Three Six Mafia or Lil' Jon. That said, this album completely blows me away and it seriously pains me that Obie Trice is so slept on. This album is better than Second Round's On Me, most likely because he had more help from Em on this one truthfully, but still, both CDs are great. I just wanted to write this review to do something to try to spread the word. This CD is unbelievable. My three favorite rap CDs of all time are the Notorious BIG- Life After Death, Eminem- The Eminem Show, & Obie Trice- Cheers. I love the female-problem-driven songs on here like Lady, Hands On Me, & even Don't Come Down about his mama. The lyrics are unreal and his style is unprecedented and fresh. He is creative, witty, and his flow is downright cold, not to mention production is superb. Please buy this CD.
Dont believe all the 5 star reviews........2006-07-01
This album is far from 5 stars. Some reviews state that the time this album was dropped hurt the sells. That might have been possible. If this album was from Murder INC. But its from the same camp as 50's, Shady/Aftermath. So anything with Em's name should sell like crazy. This didn't cause this album is lackluster. Notice how Obie's flow isn't as fired up on his solo tracks. It almost seems(to me) he's not really sure of himself. But on the features he trys to rap for broke. And the features is what kills him in my opinion. With the exceptions of Nate Dogg and Kon Artist, Obie's verse almost disappear. And that's bad especially if your outshined by Dre in this day and age. What I hate mostly is, you can always tell an Eminem beat. They just all sound the same and goofy. I'll be sellin this on amazon real soon for like 75 cents. Cause really I can't listen to anything else on this album again. You wanna hear someone from d12 that can spit bars, cop Proof album.
Dont sleep on Obie.......2006-06-10
It's a shame this album was slept on by so many. The first time I heard about CHEERS I said, "Obie Who??" But since 2003 to present, it's been a constant part of my CD rotation. Packed with great beats courtesy of Dre, Em, and even Timbo, Obie could have sung the alphabet on every song and it would STILL BE HOT!! Thankfully, Obie proves on his debeut album that he can hold his own lyrically as well. Rapping from the heart in "Dont Come Down", to just having fun in "Got Some Teeth", Obie delivers and does everything in between. Cheers will not dissapoint. Needless to say, I'll be getting Obie's sophomore album, "Second Round's On Me" the day it hits the shelves. (let's just hope it's better than 50's second attempt)
Brilliant debut...deserves more respect........2006-06-05
Obie Trice's debut CD came out at a bad time. 2003 was the year of 50 Cent's "Get Rich or Die Tryin" on Aftermath Records, selling about 6 million copies. September 23, 2003 was the day that Outkast's "Speakerboxxx/The Love Below" came out. Poor Obie, he never saw that kind of disappointment coming. It wasn't his day for a year that wasn't his...the only he had going for him from the get-go was the backing of Eminem/Dr. Dre and that may have lead to one of the most impressive debuts I've ever heard. I like this more than I like Doggystyle, if that is an indication of where I think Trice is heading.
He is a rapper that speaks in metaphors, the kind that arent entirely obviously the first time you hear them. Listen to "Lady", which features Eminem. Yes, it is true that Eminem slays him (who doesn't Eminem slay though...honestly) but the fact that he can even hold his own while maintaining a style all his own is commendable. He isn't an Eminem clone, nor is he a member of D12 (why do people tend to think that?)he is an "average man" doing great things with the little bit he has, and I think it's tremendous. All of those people who htink 50 Cent ca rhyme so well need to listen to Trice...he has the goods. And that isn't a comparison as much as it is a contrast: 50 Cent has gotten lazy, Obie Trice has only gotten more hungry. I hope his sophomore CD is as good, because I would hate to have to retract my ideals of this man's potential.
Great Debut From Obie!.......2006-05-02
First, this is a really good album and was one of my first CDs. I got it mainly for "**** Hits The Fan" w/ Eminem. That wasn't the only good song. I also liked "Don't Come Down" and "Got Some Teeth". Those are really good, too. Actually, the whole CD is great but those are the best. Btw, is it just me or does the rhythm of "Don't Come Down" sound the same as Eminem's "Sing For The Moment"?

Without a doubt one of the best R&B albums ever made.......2006-12-07
Playa burst onto the scene with the huge single Cheers 2 U back in my sophomore year of high school. I was always a fan over the soundtrack songs & compilations songs so I decided to pick up their CD a few years ago. Other than the last three New Edition albums I hadn't heard an album from an R&B group that I could let play from beginning to end without hitting the skip button. The group stands out the most vocally on the ballads like All The Way, Push, Everybody Wanna Love Somebody, Together and Top Of The World. The album isn't all ballads there's also a few party jams like Ms. Parker and Don't Stop The Music. The group's three part harmony mixed with Timberland's unique production skills made an album debut full of enormous potential. Sadly the group was under shadowed in favor of Dru Hill and never got the mainstream success they deserved. If you get a chance pick this one up along with Smokey's two solo CD's and Digital Blacks. Some of the group's best work can be found on soundtrack and other people's CD you'll find the list below.
"Joy", from Welcome to Our World by Timbaland & Magoo
"Birthday", from Tim's Bio: From The Motion Picture: Life from Da Basement by Timbaland
"Your Dress", from the Dr. Doolittle Soundtrack
"Playboy Like Me", from the Blue Streak Soundtrack
"Woozy" from the Romeo Must Die Soundtrack
"Incense Burning" from the Exit Wounds Soundtrack
CHEERS 2 YOU.......2006-05-14
Ok,
So I remember some years ago, watching the video for Cheers 2 You and knew that I wanted to hear more from these guys. I think I was one of the first people in my "click" that payed attention to this cd.
The cd is nice. It won't bother saying which songs are the best because there is something on here for everybody. From funk, religious, rap, oldies, R&B...
This is the type of cd where you have to play from beginning to end.
I thought this was a first great effort and always wanted to hear more but they were dropped from their label.
However one the members of the group did alot of work with Aaliya's last album.
If you love R&B get this cd...it wont be a mistake.
Playa Playa.......2005-12-17
Another Great Group Under the Umbrella of JODECI Member De'Vante SWING.. It's Sad He Kept His Talent in the Background until Jodeci Broke Up. Infact De'Vante Swing Discoverd- A Girl group Called "SISTA" which Spawned - "MISSY",De'Vante Swing also Discovered Ginuwine,Timbaland & Magoo...It's Funny But Timbaland Past Up De'Vante Swing style of BEAT MAKING.
But Back On PLAYA The Lp is Incredible The Beats and Singing are very very good. IT's sad that they got dropped from Def Jam Records. Maybe OneDay They'll make another Classic.
If You CAN STILL FIND THIS CD! Then GO pick it Up!

Customer Reviews:
Makes me remember why I was almost a music major!.......2004-08-29
I really had to scour the internet to find and buy this cd! Why would I do such a thing? One day while driving in my car, I heard "Incantation and Dance" by John Barnes Chance playing on NPR and those wonderful memories of my freshman year of college came flooding back! The Chance piece is such a joyous and intricate exploration of the beautiful sounds that can be created when an ensemble of talented musicians, a great director, and a truly original piece of music are joined as one. I bought the cd specifically for this piece, but I also remember performing "American Overture" by Joseph Wilcox Jenkins while studying trumpet performance at Truman State University, a small liberal arts college in northeast Missouri.
Ok, so I gave up the dream of a career as a professional musician, but I will never forget that feeling of chills running up my spine while playing my trumpet on a lush piece like that one.
I'll bet if you were ever a band member in high school or college, this cd will bring back some good memories. Orchestral music is wonderful, but there is nothing like a big brass section and lots of percussion to make your heart race and your spirits soar!
Dello Joio is awesome.......2002-07-15
I had never heard "Scenes from the Louvre" before, and it was quite a pleasant surprise.
Dello Joio's music isn't that common, or maybe better to say not commonly found... so when a new work pops up I usually try to at least audition it. I wasn't disappointed at all.
By closing one's eyes, you can almost visualize walking through the different galleries - Dello Joio paints with music as well as any of the masters painted with oil! Bravo!
The rest of the CD is fine, but "Scenes from the Louvre" is the shining star. I only wish I had been able to see the television production that this was written for.
Being a huge Dello Joio fan, I would appreciate being steered in the right direction for more of his music, especially anything that was written for, or has been transcribed for the Wind Symphony medium.

Cheers to the Years, Vol 1.......2004-01-13
What can I say about Enrique Chia's talent but that he is the best pianist I've heard. I was first introduced to his music at Cafe Bassam in San Diego while on vacation. It was very late at night and my company and I wandered into the cafe. We ordered our teas & coffee and sat back while this album was playing.
At the time I was listening to Cheers to the Years Vol 2. I was so impressed with the music I asked the owner what the name of the album was. He kindly gave me the title and indicated where he bought it. I was not able to find it in any store I searched in. When I got back home to Arizona, I decided to search the net on Amazon.com. Sure enough, I was so happy to find both volumes and immediately ordered them.
The first one came today, Volume 1, and I am enjoying it immensely. The music is quite moving, inspirational, and it just plain makes you feel good. His God-given talent is amazing. What a joy it is to work in my office with this background music. I'll be able to take it with me on the road back to San Diego for another vacation!
I am looking forward to receiving Volume 2 real soon!
Thank the LORD for such talent, thank you Enrique Chia for sharing your talent with the world, and thank you Enrique's father-in-law for encouraging him to do so, and thank you Amazon.com for offering this wonderful music.

Having earned his composing stripes after the 1960s, John Adams had the pioneering work of Steve Reich, Philip Glass, and Terry Riley close at hand as he ventured into his trade. And, while minimalism's historical continuum helps place Adams, he used Reich, Glass, and Riley (among others) only as a starting point. And here's proof: a 10-CD retrospective of nearly all Adams's recorded compositions on Nonesuch Records, the label that also issued Steve Reich 1965-1995 and Kronos Quartet: 25 Years. Adams's Harmonium, a choral work of startling energy and effervescence, appears here in a new recording, as do distillations of both The Death of Klinghoffer and Nixon in China, two path-clearing operas. Over the span of a career covered by Earbox, Adams has returned minimalism to traditional instrumental ensembles as well as to projects that at once advanced a political commentary and took that commentary back to orchestral audiences. And so, in far less time than his predecessors, Adams created works that now play like standard repertoire pieces: The Wound Dresser and Shaker Loops and the Violin Concerto--all of them are here. What these works demonstrate is a fierce creativity on the one hand and perhaps a hunger for commercial advances on the other. Adams may at times be a bustling free thinker, but he sounds ever conscious of what audiences are listening to. As for the works themselves, they remain every bit as daunting as when written.
Some may object to particular selections. I Was Looking at the Ceiling and Then I Saw the Sky, for example, hardly ranks with Adams's best work. But this box isn't a mere best-of; it's an almost-all-of. At times terrifically American--especially in the news-aware operas and their narrative pragmatism--Adams well deserves a major box set, and its coverage is appropriate to his varied, stylistically diverse output. As with any large-scale retrospective, Earbox--which fairly bristles with Adams's new composition, Slonimsky's Earbox--has spots where fans might balk at the quality of the composer's writing. But it's got a fantastic accompanying booklet along with its many hours of inarguably modern and thoroughly listener-friendly music. --Andrew Bartlett

Moved to tears.......2004-03-18
Never before in my life was i moved so intensely and directly by classical music. I put the first cd in my player and a few minutes later tears are flowing. I find myself dancing and moving to a rythm i already seem to know. Wow, i just have to share that.
Nonesuch delivers.Again.......2002-11-27
John adams is one of the most popular living composers of"modern" classical music[I believe the cutoff point, though arbitrary is usually WWII}.I came to him late, through my husband. Modersn classical music , I said? What the hell is that?My husband kept playing bits and pieces of adams for me, and more and more i found myself amazed. and swayed. His operas have been groundbreaking{Nixon in China} controversial{Death Of klinghoffer},his compostions sublimely beautiful{shaker Loops or harmonium].HIS STATURE IS WORTHY THEN OF SUCH A MONUMENTAL CAREER SPANNING BOX SET.This 10 disc set[great value, again from NONESUCH}encompasses Adams' entire career, and though there are some misses here{I was looking at the ceiling and then i saw the sky doesnt quite fit},it is still magnificent. the Highlights are ,{for me} the Wound Dresser, Chamber symphony,Violin Concerto, of course, Shaker Loops and Harmonuim are wonderful. The true jewels here are Nixon in China, the Chairman dances and the Death of Klinghoffer, which is simply a masterpiece. The set comes with a wonderful book, which contains essay's by Robert Hurwitz {An Uncommon Man}renaud Machart[John adams as seen from europe} and Essays before an earbox by Adams himself.A Chronology and dicography are included. A wonderful study of an American original, worth the investment, Highly highly recommended
harmonia in excelsis.......2001-11-12
I must agree with Mr. Bartlett, particularly with regard to "Ceiling." It may well be because his Violin Concerto and Harmonielehre are so powerful. 4.5 stars.
Interesting, and likely intentional, is that two names in the extensive liner book fail to mention two great and glaringly obvious precursors: Carl Orff and Raymond Scott. Without "Carmina Burana," there would be no "Harmonium." Orff has his mark all over Adams's gifted and epic compositions. Similarly, though there are glib references to "cartoon music," the polymath engineer/musician Scott is a seminal figure in American music, and casts a large shadow over the witty juxtapositions and sense of play one loves in Adams's work. In all, an excellent career overview.
Our greatest living composer.......2001-07-22
As a composer, I'm staggered that anyone could fail to be gripped by this music.
That anyone can use the words "spoiled, overrated" amazes me. I emphatically disagree with "A music fan"'s review.
I don't think it's "mind-numbing"; I think it's spiritual and exciting. To me it's the most substantial music being created in our times.
I'm really sorry that anyone could fail to enjoy it, and really recommend others to listen for themselves.
Wonderful CD.......2000-04-02
This compilation should turn even the most curmudgeonly listerner into a fan. Beautifully recorded, great notes -- and it's a heck of a bargain!

Great (I suppose) if you already know the words.......2003-03-13
For me, the voices were faint relative to the musical instruments. It was difficult to hear them. Yet, the language was so stylized that, even when heard, understanding the words was tedious and exasperating. Most mannerisms of the stage originated in purposeful behavior, I feel sure, but they detract from the performance when overindulged. I think I'd prefer a studio recording in which the singers sang with unpretentious style right into a microphone, and the audio engineer adjusted tone and timbre. I imagine elitists cluck-clucking about the purity of music without microphones. In my opinion, if you're making a CD, then you've sinned already, so why not go all the way and make a great CD? If my dear reader remains with me at this stage of my rant, I say the performance at the opera house may be mahvelous and pristine, but a CD and an opera house are different media, and performers should optimize for the medium. However, this recording of Pinafore is the best I've found of the sad available lot. I'd rate it 2 stars if it weren't superlative.
... He's hardly ever sick at sea ...........2001-07-31
I must admit, I only bought the opera because I was rather amused by Sideshow Bob's rendition of the HMS Pinafore (Cape Feare, The Simpsons). Since then, I've bought (and enjoyed) the Mikado, planning to get the Pirates of Penzance soon. This opera is both hilarious and beautiful, mainly thanks to a great performance by the D'Oyly Carte opera company. If you're at all interested in classical music and the opera (which you should be), this is something that everyone should have.
Outstanding recording - average selection.......2001-06-14
Nothing more needs to be said about this superb D'Oyly Carte Pinafore, which won a well-dseerved Rosette from the Penguin Guide. Yet, in this highlights disc, I find that despite containing most of the major scenes, I dearly wish that Decca had chosen the excerpts a little more carefully. The lack of the entire "Carefully on tiptoe stealing" sequence seems to be an extremely serious minus in my book, particularly when it presents a sharp twist in the story. In addition, I also find that the inclusion of the entire "Over the bright blue sea" sequence is a little too - too redundent because the entrance of Sir Joseph is more important. Nevertheless, this is a wonderful disc of Pinafore excerpts. It presents a generous selection of excerpts that offers a good playing time without affecting sales of the complete set, and it also is enough to make one feel contented for a long time before purchasing the complete recording.
A generous selection!.......2001-01-05
With so much of the recording offered as highlights it would have been better to purchase the full operetta. This recording dates from 1960 and is superalative in every respect. John Reed, Jean Hindmarsh, Thomas Round together with the late Donald Adams are reasons enough to acquire this version. The only missing quality is the dialogue. Never was the libretti of Gilbert ever spoken with more relish for the language and with such finesse. If you decide upon further investigation I urge you to do so.

half decent.......2000-08-12
I bought this cd rather naively - I needed two more for a 5 cd dealy-thing, and it looked like something with nice beats to keep me up and dancing and whatnot. Wrong. While these cds definently has some songs considered hits on them, they're not something you would put in your player on random for action all night... The first cd starts off very uptempo and fast, then somewhat mellows out, into the second cd. I pretty much skip here and there to avoid the songs I don't wanna hear - although some people enjoy it, I'm not really one for the super trendy teeny bopper type of stuff. Some of these songs are just plain cheesy. I guess if you tune out the lyrics, it's half decent. It's not too heartbreaking to shove something else in the player in place of this one... the Night at the Roxbury soundtrack is really killer though.
