The Find
Editorial Reviews
ELEMENTAL
"One of the most creative and sought after producers.. just put out a hugely solid record."
Product Description
Huge 22 track album of energetic hip-hop, funk n' soul, & downtempo from head turning MC & Producer Ohmega Watts. A debut album that has garnered a huge buzz from his 2 previous sold-out singles, already drawing comparisons to the impact Little Brother's debut caused on the underground scene. Offering both quantity and quality The Find is 22 tracks deep and jumps from laid-back hip-hop stylings to party rockin bangers. Inspired as much by hip-hop legends like Eric B & Rakim and DJ Premier as contemporary electronic producers like RJD2 and The Herbaliser, The Find pushes industry-standard boundaries. Hailing from Flatbush, Brooklyn, brought-up by Jamaican parents Milton Campbell aka Ohmega Watts moved to Florida and now resides amidst a bustling Portland, Oregon scene along w/ the likes of Quannum's The Lifesavas, Lightheaded, and countless others.

Customer Reviews:
Great 70s Music CD.......2007-08-01
I love 70 and 80s music and I was searching for a particular song and found that it, and several other songs I like, were on this CD. Amazon.com is the place to go when you want to purchase music.
Delightful.......2007-07-11
This excellent compilation offers something for everyone: great ballads like Kiss You All Over, Fool If You Think It's Over and Emotion, catchy pop in the form of Stumblin' In, Which Way You Goin' Billy, Kung Fu Fighting, Rivers Of Babylon (not really hard to find), Beautiful Sunday and Love Is In The Air, plus some soulful moments with Right Back Where We Started From and Love Really Hurts Without You. The two most eccentric tracks are the vocal masterpiece After The Goldrush by Prelude and the gravel voiced UK singer Hurricane Smith's Oh Babe What Would You Say? His other hit, Don't Let It Die is also something to get hold of. In its quality and variety these songs prove that the decade of 1970s was the golden age of pop. The CD is beautifully packaged with an informative booklet providing information on each of the songs.
Real Music.......2007-07-09
These songs are refreshing to listen to because they are not remastered with the high tech, bumped up, synthesized overkill decibel/ frequency levels of newer CDs. It's just the same, normal music we listened to in the '70s. The songs are in their original format. You can actually hear xylophones in Chris Rhea's "Fooled if You Think it's Over." There were some songs I'd never heard of, but the ones I recognized were worth the price.
Some of the Best 70s Songs.......2007-06-19
If you didn't live in a cave or a commune in the '70s, hopefully you'll listen to this CD and find yourself occasionally saying, "I remember that song!" This CD is a great value and with hits such as "Right Back Where I Started From," "Magic," and "My Angel Baby," you can't go wrong.
Awesome collection.......2007-06-10
I have purchased several compilation cd's over the past few years but this one had many of the songs that I loved in the 70's but could never find, the title of the disc says it all! Everyone will find music they enjoy and remember on this one!

oldies that are hard to find........2007-07-13

Disappointing.......2007-05-26
There are really only two tunes on this album that are both hard to find and desirable, and I bought it for the rarer of the two- Jim Pepper's great "Witchi Tai To" from the long out-of-print album, "Pepper's Pow Wow."
Unfortunately I was terribly disappointed to discover that the version presented here is a very short 2 minute and 55 second version, without the introductory chant. Luckily the version of Miriam Makeba's "Pata Pata" presented here was also one I wanted for my collection, but that's a lot to pay for one song.
As for the other sings on the disk- a few are winner, most are forgettable, and one- "Papa Joe's"- was incredibly annoying when I originally heard it on the radio, and time has not changed my opinion!
The Search Is Over.......2007-01-10
This cd contains a lot of tracks that I had been searching for in second hand shops but was told I would never find them by the less than helpful sales staff. The songs were all on this one cd.
Glad to find.......2006-11-10
For a month, XM radio counted down every charting song from the 40's to the present. Quite ambitious, and an incredible listen. I here this song I love, but didn't get the name. A week later I purchase this CD and "Witchi Tai To" is on the CD. Great luck for me. "My Boy Lollipop," "Black is Black," "Tobacco Road" - all great songs. Okay, Lollipop isn't a great song, but it's hilariously fun.
Eric Records Production of Old R&R Tunes.......2006-02-01
This disc provided me with some long sought after tunes from my youth. Typically the disc contains songs I tolerated, a few I never heard of, However, the producers sought to include songs which mean something to many.

Great CD - Very happy with purchase.......2007-07-01
With the exception of 'I Really Love You' (I don't remember this one) I'm happy with the rest of the songs. The only thing they're missing are the hiss and pop of the old 45's. These are from the early 60 and the chart numbers (on the back of the case) show they were all in the top 30, mand 10 or higher. I'm going to wear the grooves out on this CD :-)
Oldies.......2007-05-15
The CD was everything I wanted and more you hear the song's a fraction of the time on the radio
Hard to find 45's on CD.......2007-04-07

Great CD.......2007-01-17
Along with the one song I've been looking for, this has a lot of great songs.
A Lot of Quality for a Bargain Price.......2006-08-01
I received the 45's On CD Vol 2: 1961-1964, and already looking for more of these lost gems. Some of the songs I had on 45's which had worn with age and use. Now I can have the songs I grew up with forever on CD. Love it!! Bring out more of 'em.

Album Description
With so many labels and so many CD's, you'd think it would be easy to find all the top hits from the fabulous 50's. Not so! To remedy this musical misfortune, Hit Parade Records inaugurates their new year-by-year CD series with
Hard To Find Jukebox Classics 1956. This exciting, audiophile-quality disc is bulging with 24 classic pop, vocal group, folk, and early rock 'n' roll hits. All these platters made the Top 40 - sixteen hit the Top 10, three made it all the way to #1 - but just try and find these terrific songs today!
Hard To Find Jukebox Classics 1956 includes eight songs never available on CD till now, including Fess Parker's "Wringle Wrangle" (#12), Dorothy Collins' "My Boy - Flat Top" (#15), and the stereo single version of Morris Stoloff's #1 smash, "Moonglow & Theme from 'Picnic'." Others, like the Cheers' tragicomic "Black Denim Trousers" (featuring Bert Convey) or Tony Bennett's rapturous "Can You Find It In Your Heart " are very difficult - if not impossible - to find on CD these days.
Hit Parade Records is a new Canadian label dedicated to finding, restoring, and preserving lost treasures like these. Exclusively distributed in the United States by Eric Records, Hit Parade employs many of the same creative folks who lovingly compile those great Eric CD's - including Greg Adams, whose detailed liner notes with biographies of all the artists will fascinate you for almost as long as the full hour it will take you to listen to Hard To Find Jukebox Classics 1956! And, don't miss Hit Parade's other great collections, Fabulous Fifties Divas and Fabulous Fifties Crooners as well as The Complete Original Hits Of Georgia Gibbs.
Customer Reviews:
Agree!.......2007-06-18
I agree with previous reviewers, but would like to emphasise that most of these tracks are probably rare. So often oldies compilations mine the same vein, and the same songs reappear over and over again. The vast majority on this comp are new to me, and there is very little overlap with the contents of the Time Life Hit Parade series disk for the same year.
I hope there will be more volumes forthcoming :)
Another gem .......2007-05-15
Once again Eric/Hit Parade records has produced another great CD. As always the sound quality is superb and the liner notes complete. As always there are lots of, as the title says, Hard to Find great songs from the fifties, in this case specifically 1956. While many of the songs are top tens there are a couple of lesser rated gems such as Wringle Wrangle by Fess (Davey Crockett) Parker and My Boy-Flat Top by Dorothy Collins. Highly recommended.
Total Bliss!!.......2007-03-13
I didn't realize just how much I missed some of these tunes. My Boy Flat Top by Dorothy Collins and Wringle Wrangle by Fess Parker (TV's Davy Crockett) were both boyhood favorites. The sound is as fresh and clean as I've ever heard on 50 year old recordings. You also get Green Door by Jim Lowe and 21 others to help take you down memory lane. Thi CD is a must for those of us on the leading edge of the Baby Boomer generation.
A veritable smorgasbord of hard to find mid-fifties pop favorites.......2007-01-25
Hats off to our friends at Canada's Hit Parade records. They have come up with real winner here!! "Hard to Find Jukebox Classics 1956" features two dozen of the most pleasing pop tunes from that era. And many of these songs are appearing on CD for the very first time! In all cases these are the original hit recordings you would remember from the radio. No disappointing re-recordings on this one! Even though I have been a collector for more than 40 years there were still 7 or 8 songs on this disc that I did not own!! For me, this collection was a real find.
"Hard to Find Jukebox Classics 1956" features hits by some of the premiere vocalists in American popular music. Enjoy once again Vic Damone's splendid recording of "On The Street Where You Live" from "My Fair Lady". That one always sends chills up and down my spine! One of the big hits of 1956 was Bing Crosby's duet with Grace Kelly. "True Love", featured in the motion picture "High Society", went all the way to #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the fall of that year. I was also extremely pleased to find a pair of hits by Tony Bennett that have been out-of-print and virtually impossible to find for decades. "Can You Find It In Your Heart" and "From The Candy Store On The Corner To The Chapel On The Hill" were both big sellers that year. If you enjoy that rockabilly sound then Chuck Miller's Top Ten smash "The House of Blue Lights" will certainly float your boat. And fans of group harmony will appreciate tunes like Somethin' Smith and the Redheads recording of "It's A Sin To Tell A Lie" or the Highlights "City Of Angels". For me, perhaps the biggest surprise in this collection was the remarkable Jerry Lewis recording (yes, that Jerry Lewis)of Al Jolson's 1918 hit "Rock-A-Bye Your Baby With A Dixie Melody". I cannot imagine that Lewis was much of a singer, but his voice proved to be perfect for that song. While I have always been aware that this tune hit the Top Ten back in '56 I had never heard the song before nor had I ever seen the 45 rpm record.
I could go on and on but suffice to say that if this is your kind of music then you should grab this one immediately. It has been my experience that collections like this tend to have a fairly short shelf life so if you procrastinate you may miss out. "Hard to Find Jukebox Classics 1956" features a very informative 12 page booklet featuring photos and biographical information on many of these artists. Simply stated, this disc is a joy to listen to. Very highly recommended!!!

Kevin Cronin goes solo after 4 songs.......2007-08-06
Wow, all I can say is that the first four songs are probably four of the best post-Richrath/Gratzer songs written by REO (with the exception of Love is a Rock). I was nervous after the too rootsy Building the Bridge CD, and did not want to get my hopes up for this one. But, having heard some of the sound bites online, I thought this CD was worth a try. The first 4 songs are great, but it takes a stylistic sharp dive on song 5---Lost On the Road To Love. It just doesn't fit. It may work well on a Kevin Cronin solo CD, but not within REO.
However, in listening to it more and more, it sounds like they used up the creative energy on the first four, and quickly finished up the rest of the CD with some mediocre, if not experimental songs. After "lost" there are a couple of average songs but it derails at Born to Love You. The New Orleans style piano and clarinet just bent me the wrong way. The CD ends on mellow note, with a song that sounds like a leftover from Building the Bridge.
There was so much hype for this CD as being the next Hi-Infedity, that it was somewhat disappointing. I am not sure why Neal did not play on the majority of it, and I wonder how much Gino Vanelli (the stand in piano player/producer) impacted the tunes. If you can get the first four songs off I-Tunes, do it.....althought the Wal-Mart 3 Disc set is awesome.
This CD is a mixed bag of tunes penned by a musician (very few band credits) who needs to do a solo project (to get it out of his system), and then re-group with REO Speedwagon. In my opinion, Kevin is calling all the REO shots nowadays, and the earthy "country/folk" songs on the last two CD's just don't fit my perception of REO. I just see Dave Amato as a hired gun still....who would probably write some rockin tunes if given the opportunity. If Kevin would just do a solo disc, I at least could avoid buying it knowing it is not using the REO moniker as a marketing ploy.
More Than Nine Lives!.......2007-08-05
As a 16 year old who was glued to his weekly edition of American Top 40 back in 1981, I was totally engossed in the progress of "Keep On Lovin' You". A song that I knew was destined to replace Dolly Parton's "9 to 5" as the number one song in the land. Once my prediction came true, I rushed to the local Strawberries to find the vinyl copy of the now legendary "High Infidelity". I remember hiding the album cover from my mom. It was a bit too risque for those days. My, how times have changed! Needless to say, I was on the REO bandwagon, or Speedwagon as it were. I had to archive back to hear "Roll With The Changes" and "Time For Me To Fly" to catch up with this road warrior quintet.
So flash forward to wandering the aisles at Wal-Mart and of course straying into the music section. There in the front of the bin is this triple disc Reo Speedwagon thing, "Find Your Way Home". First, what an awesome deal! 3 discs for $14.99. You get the new album, a live version of High Infidelity and an interview/concert DVD. So without what I'm about to say, I have to say, go buy it! My vinyl HI cost me $8 plus tax in '81. Technology is a good thing.
As far as the new album goes, well it's surprisingly good. This is a bonafide aging rock band. And yes, the boys look, well, older. Kevin Cronin looks good for his age. His voice, rather than deepening with age, has lost some of it's trademark-ness. Kevin used to hold his r's and stuff, like on "Keep On Lovin' You. Now his voice is smoother and less edgy. However, on the live CD, Kevin manages to time travel and muster some of that early '80's delivery. In fact, the more rockin' songs seem to bring out more of the old Kevin. The new CD is chalked full of those kinds of moments. By the way, classic rock station program directors, if you read this review, feel free to do a "then and now" with this CD, as classic rock fans will be more than able to tolerate "Smilin'" or "Find Your Way Home" perched next to any of the old stuff. I could do a whole critique on the foolishness of radio these days, but alas, this is supposed to be an REO review!
REO's resilience is part touring, part great musical instincts, part persistence and part historical. Rather than reinventing themselves, REO has updated themselves with great production from Joe Vanelli, and creative control of the enite project. The result is a fresh, yet familiar REO. "Smilin' In The End" leads in fine REO tradition as many of their projects lead off with a straight ahead rocker. KC is fired up, as if re-energized by his road work with arch allies Styx and Journey. Cronin and crew seem to have all been through the personal ringer as of late. Not sure if it's just love gone bad, or life being difficult. In any event, a kind of reverse Hi Infidelity takes shape on Find Your Way Home. Even a spiritual awakening of sorts. There's also a theme of casting off the shackles of the record industry. This is a self made, self promoted, self distributed project. CBS would rather keep repacking REO stuff from days gone by. And that my friends is a tangent I need to avoid for now. But I will say that it's a shame that middle aged rock bands can't get new songs to play even on classic rock stations.
Back to the new CD. "I Needed To Fall" is the best REO power balld since "Can't Fight This Feeling". It has that guitar sheen that made "Keep On Loving You" such a ground breaking moment in rock history. The title track also has that feel as well as a very spiritual theme. "Dangerous Combination" was written with ex-Survivor (not the show) cast member Jim Peterik. It has this rather funny punch line about thinking and drinking. Again, Cronin sounds great here and makes the song's storyline come to life. "Lost On The Road of Love" has this bluesy, shuffle with even a hint of R&B. "Another Lifetime" has this great lead guitar riff that contains some of that late night '70's album rock sound. "Run Away Baby" is pure REO throw-back material. This tune should make all the old time REOers very happy. Same with "Everything You Feel" with it's bluesy acoustic intro and tenative build-up. The song then finds a great pop-rock groove in prime REO fashion. "Let My Love Find You" is a classic Cronin ballad with an extra spiritual dimension. It examines the Spirit that guides us all. It puts closure on the frenzied themes and inner turmoil the band must have experienced recently. This is just a wondeful project from start to finish.
Dave Amato shines on this project. The songs are ALL catchy and I would make the comparison, that, yes, this is some kind of spiritual reverse Hi Infidelity. The music, the lyrics and Joe Vanelli's production are all polished and delivered with a new vigor. This is a CD you will want to play from start to finish. Remember when albums were listened to from start to finish before the days of dangerous downloads? This is a CD you need to either buy, or download ALL the tunes. Again, Dave Amato will blow your socks off! By the way, count all the different styles on this CD. You will liklely need some toes to help. Wait 'til you hear Bruce Hall's bluesy "Born To Love You". You will find yourself rooting for this midwestern band that changed the lives of so many of us back in the day. They sound and play better than ever. Dave Amato is no slouch, and anyone still concerned about his ability to fill the breach left by Gary, worry not. I would say this eclipses anything Gary Richrath ever did. Yup, I said it. Dave was Ted Nugent's former guitar "back-up"? Yeah, I would say that makes Dave Amato a pretty good guitar player. REO Speedwagon is still a credible, vibrant and creative band. I am happy to report that old bands sometimes create the best NEW music. Buy this CD. Get the Wal-Mart version if you can.
Mid-tempo rockers and ballads 3.5 out of 5.......2007-07-17
I've been a fan of Reo Speedwagon since "Hi Infidelity" in late 1980 and although I preferred the seventies rock to the top forty pop direction that the band pursued in the eighties, I have to say that this is a solid release. Sure, we all wish the band would release another "Reo Two" or a hard rocking "Nine Lives" all over again, but the times have definitely changed. Since Richrath left the group, Cronin is in the driver's seat and he seems to go for a polished and contemporary mid-tempo sound. The stand out songs on this release are "Smilin' In The End," "I Needed To Fall," "Dangerous Combination," "Another Lifetime," and "Everything You Feel." I think that the sound that the band achieved on "Everything You Feel," is particularly refreshing and something new for Reo. In a perfect world, "I Needed To Fall" would be another Billboard top forty, but the band does not have the following that it did in the eighties. The only three songs that are just average are "Run Away Baby," "Born To Love You," and "Let My Love Find You." I wish that there were more guitar solos on this CD. If you need to learn about how great Reo was, then pick up "Reo Speedwagon," "Reo Two," " Nine Lives" and "You Can Tune a Piano," to find out how the underrated Gary Richrath played the Gibson Les Paul.
REO Has Topped Their Best.......2007-07-10
If you're a fan of the early REO that rocked, you'll love this album. If you're a fan of the 80's pop rock REO, than you'll learn to appreciate how good REO can be. This sounds like the uninhibited REO doing music that they love, as opposed to what a record company wants. The more you listen, the more you'll find yourself playing the whole thing again and again!
Home run!.......2007-07-02
As a REO fan from the early 80's I'm positively surprised! Great songs, brilliant musicians, slightly updated but still familiar REO Speedwagon sound, that's what you find here and more you play it, more you like it. If you manage, get yourself the 3-box set (Find Your Way Home cd, Hi Infidelity Then Again Live cd and XM Artist Confidential dvd). Live performance of Hi Infidelity is pure magic. Particularly Dave Amato really shines there.

Customer Reviews:
This one is well produced .......2007-07-27
From High School USA to A String of Trumpets, this CD is packed with hit after hit that is geat to listen to all over again. Even those that weren't great hits are blended in at the right spots. If you buy only one of ERIC's Hard To Find 45's on CD (That are still in publication), Buy this one. You won't be disappointed. I haven't heard Philadelphia U.S.A, or High School USA in over 40 years! It's great to hear them anytime I want to now.
Great remastering! Fine compilation.......2007-05-25
Whether due to tracking down original master tapes, or just plain old engineering skill, the tracks on this compilation have a warmth and vibrancy seldom encountered on similar reissues. The audio experience is similar to listening to mint 45s through a great system. If you have any interest at all in the material, don't hestitate to acquire this disc!
The late 1950's come alive with this entertaining new collection from Eric records. .......2007-04-27
They are songs you just don't hear on the radio anymore. Even the weekend specialty shows that for many years featured the great rock 'n roll and doo wop sounds of the 1950's have now largely disappeared from the airwaves. Thankfully, the folks at Eric records have once again come to the rescue with a great new collection featuring an impressive variety of genres from this period. "Hard to Find 45's on CD, Vol. 9: 1957-1959" offers up 23 of the most distinctive and hard to find records of this period. Many of these songs were by artists who were one hit wonders while others were largely regional hits. In any case, this is a collection of songs you just won't find anywhere else.
If you are a big fan of the rockabilly sound you will certainly enjoy hearing Ray Smith's "Rockin' Little Angel" and Carl Mann's pulsating rendition of "Mona Lisa". Those who dig instrumentals can savor the great sound of Dave "Baby" Cortez's #1 hit "The Happy Organ" as well as Santo and Johnny's "Tear Drop" from 1959. It was fun to hear Huey "Piano" Smith and the Clowns classic New Orleans tune "Rockin' Pnuemonia and the Boogie Woogie Flu" which is also included here. Fans of great group harmony will not be disappointed either. You will surely appreciate the lovingly remastered version of The Aquatones great hit "You". One song many people have probably forgotten about is the Four Esquires "Hideaway". If you are a fan of the Four Lads then you are certain to love this one. It is probably my favorite tune on this disc. And there are some songs here that just don't seem to fit into any particular category but are highly enjoyable nonetheless. Among them is the great Art and Dotty Todd recording of "Chanson D'amour" from 1957 and Jody Reynolds Top Ten smash "Endless Sleep". There were also a number of tunes that I had never heard before that turned out to be very pleasant surprises. "Philadelphia USA" by the Nu Tornados features the string band sound while The Bluenotes "I Don't Know What It Is" turns out to be a pretty fair doo wop tune. Also, be sure to check out "String of Trumpets" from the Trumpeteers and Jivin' Gene and the Jokers "Breakin' Up Is Hard Do". Outstanding stuff!
"Hard To Find 45's on CD, Vol. 9: 1957-1959" comes with a fascinating 12 page booklet featuring biographical information and photos on just about all of these artists as well as Billboard chart information on each of these songs. As always the remastering job is first rate. If you have never purchased a collection from Eric before I urge you to give this one a try. Over the past several years this company has emerged as the top reissue label in the U.S. Highly recommended!

Unhappy Client.
Not what I expected.......2007-05-15
I probably should have looked closer at the playlist on this CD. Instead, I just went by the title, "The Very Best of Lou Rawls." I've never heard of most of the songs on the CD, and I don't think the sound quality is up to par.
Good Music...How Good R&B/Soul Used to Sound Like.......2007-04-03
While I'm in my late-20s, I'm aware of the late, great Lou Rawls. 1st because of his 70s disco recordings as well as the songs he sings on the Garfield specials I used to watch as a child. But it's his work with the United Nergo College Fund that comes to my mind when I think of him.
6 months after his passing, Capitol Records released a greatest hits of his soul recordings (for those wanting a collection of him singing jazz & blues standards, there's "The Best of Lou Rawls: The Capitol Jazz & Blues Sessions") I like 20 of the 21 songs featured. EMI should give praised for adding Rawls' Grammy-winning song "Natural Man" for records companies don't like to license songs from another label.
While I don't care for Rawls' take of "The Shadow of Your Smile" (great standard, but I just don't like his version of it), I love the rest of the disc. What I liked about these songs is that they're about adult issues. Something that our modern-day youth obsessed culture can't deal with. Of these songs, there's 5 that I enjoy listening to the most:
Street Corner Hustler's Blues/World of Trouble: From his 1966 LIVE LP. I love the story Rawls tells of a street hustler before sliding into "World of Trouble" At times funny.
You've Made Me So Very Happy: Very Motownish. Love the chorus line at the end.
Breaking My Back (Instead of Using My Mind): Sings about going to a job that he hates. Most of us who have jobs we don't like can relate to this.
Show Business: Songs about the realities of show business, that not everybody makes it. The lyrics were truthful then, as they are 40 years after Rawls first penned them.
Let Me Be Good to You: Sings about treating a lady who's been in a bad relationship well (without sounding nor being too sexual, an issue I've seen in a lot a modern-day R&B).
This disc also comes with very colorful liner notes in booklet form. You get an interesting essay from Billy Vera (a close friend of Rawls), photos as well as music chart info on the songs. If you want good R&B & don't care that it's from the 1960s-1970s, you'll enjoy this. Lou Rawls may be gone, but he won't be forgotten.
Spendid anthology of one of the finest singers of his generation.......2007-01-08
As his good friend Billy Vera points out in the liner notes, Lou Rawls never ever sang silly love songs. No sir! From the very beginning Lou Rawls sang about serious, adult subjects. And you could feel the emotion and the personal experience dripping in just about every tune the man ever sang. Finally, Capitol records has seen fit to release a single disc anthology befitting of this marvelous talent. "The Very Best of Lou Rawls: You'll Never Find Another" offers the listener a compehensive compilation of practically all of Lou's single hit recordings from his debut single "Love's A Hurtin' Thing" back in 1966 right on thru to his fabulous recording of "Let Me Be Good To You" in 1979. It is a disc that really was long overdue.
"The Very Best of Lou Rawls" features 21 splendid recordings and I can honestly report that there is not a weak track among them. It was certainly terrific to hear the remastered version of Lou's classic 1967 tune "Dead End Street" as well as his memorable 1972 smash "A Natural Man". And I had forgotten just how great his 1969 hit "Your Good Thing (Is About to End)" really was. In the late 60's, while still at Capitol records, Lou also covered a couple of old favorites. While his renditions of "On Broadway" and "You've Made Me So Very Happy" were not huge sellers they are highly entertaining nonetheless. Both are included here. I was also extremely pleased to see that the 1967 single "Show Business" was included as well. I had not heard that outstanding tune in nearly 40 years.
"The Very Best of Lou Rawls" concludes with a half dozen tunes from his highly successful days at Leon Huff and Kenny Gamble's Philadelphia International records. His very first recording for that label would prove to be his biggest hit ever, 1976's "You'll Never Find Another Love Like Mine". And who can ever forget "Lady Love" or "See You When I Git There" from 1977. Also included in this anthology is an incredible "live" recording of "The Shadow of Your Smile" from his 1966 "LIVE!" LP. Great stuff!
"The Very Best of Lou Rawls: You'll Never Find Another" comes with a well thought out 12 page booket that includes information on each of the tracks as well as liner notes lovingly written by the aforementioned Billy Vera. I am also pleased to report that the 24 bit remastering job is superb. We only see the likes of Lou Rawls about once per generation. Lou Rawls carried on in the tradition of great male vocalists like Billy Ecksine, Al Hibbler, Jimmy Ricks and Nat King Cole. His untimely death in January 2006 leaves a major void on the American music scene. "The Very Best of Lou Rawls" is a great way to keep his music alive. Very highly recommended!
Well deserved tribute of Lou Rawls' music.......2006-06-18
I saw this CD recently in stores and went, If this album doesn't have Let Me Be Good To You, I'm passing on it! Finally, they got it right--it is on here! Every other Lou Rawls compilation failed to include this song. While most of us remembers Lou's late 70s era of hits like You'll Never Find, this album heavily focuses on his earlier hits from the '60s and early 70s like Love Is A Hurtin' Thing, Dead End Street, A Natural Man, Bring it On Home and Show Business. As much as I like Lady Love, I can't BELIEVE that it peaked at #21 R&B and #24 pop in 1977-1978! Maybe their minds were too much onto Donna Summer, the Bee Gees,Barry Manilow, Gloria Gaynor and others that year than on this wonderful, lush classic by Rawls. It should have been No. 1 just like You'll Never did. You'll Never Find from 1976 is still a classic to many people, but I have to give the upper hand to 1979's Let Me Good to You. Track 20 of this CD is a fine representation of Lou's classic style, his familiar raps in his songs as he invites a woman to his place for a night together. And his smooth baritone style sounds so good over the rattling percussion going through the song. See You When I Get There sounds too much like a faster bridge of Teddy Pendergrass' Come Go With Me and some of the O'Jays '70s songs--maybe Gamble and Huff had too many identical songs in the studio at the time. But Rawls' stamp on it avoids all derivative comparisons. Lou Rawls passed away in January, but his music will live on for many eras and generations to come. He was a wonderful performer, philanthropist, commercial pitchman and singer in the 5 decades that he entertained audiences.

Customer Reviews:
Another great additon to the HTF45's series.......2007-07-27
This one is a very good addition to the Hard To Find 45's series from ERIC. Sure there are serveral on this one that can be found on other CD series (I own all 4 Teenage Crush CD's) but that doesn't diminish the listening enjoyment of this one. Those that are on other CD's are still great to listen to mixed-in with those that are new to the series. The song that led me to buy this CD is She's about a mover, Sir Douglas Quintet in stereo. I have this song in mono on another CD and think the stereo effect makes this song even more enjoyable. But others on this release that are worth getting it for are; Mission Bell (original version), Donnie Brooks, and If You Gotta Make A Fool Of Somebody, James Ray (I haven't found this on anywhere else). Jerry Wallace's There She Goes in stereo is one I had forgotten about and enjoyed hearing it after all these years. Cherry Pie, Skip and Flip seems to sound much clearer on this CD than it does on others I have. In fact all the songs on this one come through with great clearity. The blend of songs on this one is also very well done, just as it is on VOL 9. All in all this is a good CD. If you don't have another series that have some of the same songs, GET THIS ONE. You'll enjoy it.
Wrong classic songs.......2007-07-16
My maternal language is spanish, but when I hear this hard to find 45 rpm, Vol. 10, the first song is "Venus in blue jeans" of Jimmy Clanton, "Sacred" of Castells, "Enamorado", "Sugar pye", Etc, Etc, The another songs are for me unknow, but they are totally different that listed in this CD. Mistakes are a quality of humans.

Awesome......As Always!!!!!!!.......2007-06-27
Eric Records has done it again!!!! Volume 10 of the Hard to Find 45's series just might be the best one so far!!! So many rare gems like "Roses are Red My Love" by the You Know Who Group, "If You Gotta Make a Fool of Somebody" by James Ray, the stereo mix of "She's About A Mover" by the Sir Douglas Quintet and "Ruby Duby Du" by Tobin Mathews and Co. All I've got to do now is pick up Vol. 9 and I'll be set!
Not as good as the others.......2007-06-27
Everytime it's probably more difficult to come up with follow-ups in
long series and still try be a 5 star CD. This Eric series has been
first class all over but this latest edition (Vol. 10) does not hold
"rare" or hard to get songs. Most of these can be found on ACE's
wonderful TEENAGE CRUSH series. There are only a few highlights like
Jerry Wallace (Ther She Goes) and Barry Young (One Has My Name...)
but the rest has been released before on other 50's & 60's compilations.
Welcome back, "Hard To Find 45's on CD"!.......2007-06-12
With the declining sales and profitibility of music on CD, the mega-music companies that hold the rights to much of early and classic rock music are less and less interested in offering product of all but the most well-known and expectedly financially advantageous music from rock music's genesis. Disappointingly, even some of the independents that used to feed the die-hard fans and collectors have pulled in the reins on dredging up and reissuing the long-lost tunes that once were the staple of a.m. radio. While there may be technical issues with getting some of this remaining music on CD in quality form, thankfully there are still a few companies that satisfy the salivating collectors. After a five-year hiatus, Eric Records, the big little reissue company, sends two more volumes of its extraordinary "Hard To Find 45's on CD" roaring into the marketplace. This volume, tenth in the series, serves up a generous 24 tracks with nearly half of them making their CD debut. Among these virgin-to-CD tracks are Barry Young's Dean Martinesque "One Has My Name", Andrea Carroll's "It Hurts To Be Sixteen" and "Roses Are Red My Love from the "You Know Who Group". So the claim made a few years back by one of the then most notable reissue companies that virtually everything of that era worth reissuing was already out there, just wasn't, and still isn't, true. Beyond the appearance of new-to-CD tracks, adding to the appeal of this collection are tunes seldom found elsewhere on CD, and almost certainly, not of this quality. Notable in this category are Dale and Grace's follow-up hit "Stop and Think It Over" and "Talk To Me" from Sunny and the Sunglows. The revelations don't stop here either, as there are the stereo debut of Sir Douglas Quintet's "She's About A Mover" and the original versions of Donnie Brooks' "Mission Bell", Jerry Wallace's "There She Goes" and Adam Wade's "Take Good Care of Her". When all is said and done, this CD is jam-packed with goodies to satiate both the seasoned collector and casual listener. In keeping with Eric Records' usual high standards, the 12-page liner notes booklet contains backround info on each of the included acts and all the tracks are very clean sounding with many in stereo (tracks 2,8,10-12,14,22-24 in particular). While some have been lifted from vinyl, considerable effort has gone into presenting them in their best possible sonic state. If any fault must be found, there is an error in the liner notes regarding Dale and Grace. The duo of Jimmy Dale Gordon and Grace Sattenfield referred to here are not the Dale Houston and Grace Broussard that recorded in the early 60's. This "reinvented" Dale and Grace that run the D & G Ministries have hijacked the original duo's moniker and, while not claiming to be the original artists, capitalize on the confusion it causes. But as far as this CD is concerned, one is hard-pressed to find a better executed "oldies" collection (but there is still volume nine in this series to be considered!). Bravo to Eric! And with apologies to Andrea True, "More, More, More"!

Customer Reviews:
Good but not great.......2007-07-27
But still worth buying to get a few that aren't out there on lots of CD collections. B-A-B-Y, Carla Thomas, Little Ole Man, Bill Cosby, Al Di La, Emiliio Pericoli, and White Silver Sands. As usual the clarity of this CD is well within expectations from ERIC. Though there aren't a lot of knock out hits on VOL 5, There are some good ones, like Deep Purple, and Don't Say Nothin' Bad About My Baby. These are good listening anytime.
Oldies But Goodies!.......2007-01-05
This CD brought back a lot of memories! I'm an "oldies" junkie, so I really love this CD. I keep it in the car and it makes long drives go by much quicker!
Hard to Find 45s on CD Vol. 5.......2007-01-04
No question about the superiority of this series. True nostalgia, and some of the songs in this compilation have not been heard in years.
Hard-To-Find, Yes --- Obscure, No ---- Great CD.......2006-05-15
Eric V. Moye writes in his review that he is an afficionado of the era (60's) but has only heard of 60% of these songs, therefore he gives the CD a downgrade. Eric, if you have only heard of 60% of these you are not much of an afficionado of the 60's music. This package is excellent. Stereo versions and hard-to-find status makes this a welcome package to add to any 60's music collector's library.
I bought it for one song.......2006-02-24
Bill Cosby's "Little Ole Man." My mother had a 45 of this song. This is the only place you can get it on CD.
