4 out of 5 stars Ok.......2007-05-13

I purchased this for my teenager who seems to like it. I listened to it and it sounds ok.

3 out of 5 stars Good release, although lacking in the H-Town sound at times........2006-10-06

This is a good release, don't get me wrong, but the production on this album is sorely missing the trippy production that Houstonians cling to. That's to be expected when The Neptunes, a group who seem limited to tropical, 'let's sip smoothies under a palmtree' production, are behind the boards. However, vocally, Slim Thug manages to hold it down for the H-Town, as his thick, Southern fried accent shines over the at-times too uptempo production.

Lyrically, this is your typical Houston rap fare. It's all about candy-paint, codeine, Cadillacs, thick women, and grills. That's something you have to establish in your head before walking into an album from nearly anyone out of Houston; these guys aren't digging deep into the surface of their souls to give you heart-wrenching lyrics. They're flossing and leaning, and if you can accept their subject matter, then you'll be fine.

What's different about Houston rappers from most other emcees in the mainstream is the flare, and style they deliver their vocals with. They may talk about cliche things, but they do it with so much charisma that you can't help but be entranced by their lyrics.

Slim Thug himself isn't my favorite rapper out of the H-Town, but he is a sufficient enough rapper to put out a good album, as long as his beats are strong. And while the production is considerably storng in areas, there is far too much of that trademark Neptunes style found throughout this album. The chemistry just isn't strong enough between the Neptunes tracks and Slim Thug's raps. As Slim Thug says in one of his own raps, this is his first album not to be released in slow-mo(see, screwed and chopped), and it's quite easy to tell. While Slim doesn't sound uncomfortable on this production, per-se, it just doesn't fit his style. The longer this album goes on, the more you begin to think Snoop Dogg's going to show up unexpectedly, and drop a cameo verse. Thankfully for Thugga, that doesn't happen on this album.

There are plenty of better H-Town rap albums out there, but if you need some new Houston material to bump, and slept on this album, then this'd be a good addition to the collection. It's not perfect by any means, but it holds up well enough to earn a spot in any Southern hip-hop fan's collection.

5 out of 5 stars Such An Incredible Feelin.......2006-07-28

Slim Thug's Already Platinum was one of the better hip hop releases of 2005 and is a modern day classic. Despite what many people said, Slim Thug actually has skillz on the microphone. Of course since he was from the south he got hated on but his songs are undeniable. There's a reason why the Neptunes laced the majority of the tracks on this album. Songs like 3 Kings ft. Bun B & T.I. (a bonafide dirty south classic), Like A Boss, Diamonds (even though the remix by Mannie Fresh with Young Jeezy & Slick Pulla is a lot better), I Ain't Heard Of That featuring Bun B, Everybody Loves A Pimp (my absolute favorite song on the album), Ashy To Classy, The Interview, Miss Mary, Incredible Feelin (yall people talkin but me and my people make it happen), This Is My Life. That's pretty much the entire album and that's the truth. He spits a lot of game on this album and has the beats to match it. You won't be disappointed in this album for sure. 5 stars.

This album was chopped and screwed by michael watts of the swishahouse who did a great job on Paul wall's "the Peoples Champ" chopped and screwed . The best songs on here are ...
Like a boss , Diamonds remix , 3 kings with T.I. and Bun B. and Already Platinum . So if you like your music slowed down to a crawl you need to cop this now and then ball til you fall !!

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Surprisingly, very good.......2006-05-20

I had heard of Slim Thug but never got to check out any of his underground stuff. Both he and Paul Wall did save "Still Tippin". So I decided to check out his album Already Plantinum, and the truth is this album deserves that status.

Slim is on the label Star Trak and he makes his rapping style flow with the Neptunes beats on songs like "Like A Boss", "Playa You Don't Know", and the song everyone knows about by now "I Ain't Heard Of That". And what rap album doesnt have Bun-B on it these days when he collabs with Slim on "3 Kings", also featuring T.I.

Slim also shows his sentimental side with songs like "Dedicate", "Incredible Feelin", a Jazze Phizzle produced track, and the this ones for the ladies, "Miss Mary".

The only missteps on this album would be "This Is My Life", and Pharrells attempt to rap on the title track. But overall Already Plantinum is better than some of the other stuff that's out there and is one of the few above-average albums to come out of Houston.

4 out of 5 stars Wow, am I surprised.......2006-02-08

I didn't really know what to expect upon hearing Slim Thug's album; although he (and Paul Wall) saved "Still Tippin'", I wasn't impressed by his mailed-in verse on Gwen Stefani's "Luxurious". And while it IS true that his tag AND his album's tag, Already Platinum, are ill-titled because he's not really slim nor is the album even close to platinum, the thing of it is, it deserves to be.

When I found out that Slim was on Star Trak, I was a little skeptical because a tough rapper and Neptunes beats don't exactly sound like they would go together like bread and butter, but it actually works quite well. There are plenty of standouts, including "Like a Boss", "Playa You Don't Know" and, of course, "I Ain't Heard of That". Another highlight is the posse cut "3 Kings" with Bun-B (what would a rap album nowadays be without him?) and T.I.

Slim also gives interesting twists to been-there-done-that topics. "Miss Mary" is a pretty decent song for the ladies, but even better than that is "Dedicate", an homage to his friends locked up. And the necessary Jazze Phizzle productizzle, "Incredible Feelin'", should give you just that.

Most albums aren't without their faults; ergo, "This Is My Life" could have been left behind. I also could have done without Pharrell's verse on the title track (but he was never much of a rapper anyway -- and maybe it's time for him to realize that nobody's going to buy shoes called Ice Creams). But Already Platinum is an above-average album that's better than a lot of the stuff that's out right now, so pick it up.

Anthony Rupert

P.S. While we're talking about Star Trak, where's that new Clipse album at??? Is it having the same fate that Exclusive Audio Footage had?

5 out of 5 stars Plain & Simple 5 stars.......2005-10-01

First there shouldn't be any complaints because you basically get 2 cd's for the price of one when some people just got the one for the price of one. The bonus cd is basically a few songs chopped and screwed and some cuts from Slim and the boyz n blue to plug the new album. Slim really surprised me with this album, truly it reminds you of a surprising T.I when he droped Trap muzik. By that I mean not every single song sounds the same and every lyric has a different logic other than the mediocre pop mainstream rap.

I hear a lot of people comparing slim thugs style to like david banner, mike jones, and the list goes on. The difference between slim and other artist he's compared to is simply that he's a better lyricist. Now comparing him to T.I or Scareface would be stupid because he's not on that level yet but I'm very sure he'll progress.

Besides lyrics the beats are sick, he has some producers doing more than one beat but they still sound different like when you hear a swiss beatz track you know he did it. Plus there's a perfect blend of slow, crunk, and chill tracks which means you can just put this in and let the album run it's a strait play threw no skip album. This album to me is perfect and one of the best I've heard this year and it definitely surpasses mike jones if you dont have Already platinum you need to get it.

2. you suck
3. why do you care what people listen to
4. your probably some fat white guy that lives in the suburbs and has a pet hamster that you pet while you write retarted reviews
5. your probably a republican

3 out of 5 stars Almost Gold..........2005-08-13

Slim Thug is easily the most talented from the Houston triumvirate that gave you "Still Tippin'" so it should be no surprise that his album will be the most commercially overlooked. Already Platinum is a solid release, with some improvements over the leaked advance copy. Too bad it feels as if it all comes a little too late. Still this is the best mix of arid, spacey Neptunes beats and some seriously thowed Texan sh*t you could ever imagine. Pharell could use a slap here and there, but cameos from 1/2 of The Clipse and Slim Thugga's posse make up for it.
