MM..Food? [Explicit Lyrics]
Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com
Doom (aka Zev Love X, Viktor Vaughn, King Geedorah, etc.) has so many alter egos, it's a task just to keep track of his prolific catalog. The shared threads that run through all of his work are his bugged-out lyricism and his eclectic, inspired production motifs. Whether cartoon soundtracks or '80s soul singles or moody jazz melodies, Doom embraces any and all sounds with equal affection. Despite the presence of guests like Count Bass D ("Potholderz"), Madlib ("One Beer"), and the Molemen's PNS ("Kon Queso"), Doom is still the mastermind. This culinary-inspired outing is a loopy food-crazed journey through 15 tracks best described by the last song--"Kookies." It's tempting to call Doom an acquired taste, but for the deep underground heads who treat his rhymes like ciphers to decode, he's anything but. His approach to music-making, seemingly (but hardly) random, packs so much dazzling style and unpredictable flair that the 50th listen can be as enthralling as the first. --Oliver Wang

(For those in NYC... u can get the original at ur local New York Public Library... for FREE). the album comes wrapped in a candy wrap and the label is scratch n sniff... also comes with a MM..Food? sticker and a the promo poster for MM..Food Drive Tour. the dvd is well worth it as well... over an hour of footage of DOOM on tour. perfect for any collection.
Raw & eccentric Hip-Hop at its best.......2007-07-25
MF DOOM is an MC/producer genius. MF DOOM's flowetry blended with his great beats makes for a truly unforgettable journey with the super villain. The entire set of tracks does not disappoint and even the guest MC appearances are worth noting. The album's context deals with food entirely and MF tears up the mic making clever comparisons eclectically to food. If you are an MF DOOM fan, definitely obtain a copy of this album. Plus, the re-released version of the album comes with a bonus DVD of the Mm...Food tour. This CD is a bit more refined than other MF DOOM/other alias releases; the album is on par with the DangerDoom release which is also a modern classic.
Flawless Doom ..........2007-07-24
As a relatively new MF Doom fan, I was excited to add 'MM .. Food?' to my collection, along with The Mouse and the Mask, Madvilliany, and Live From Planet X. Although it is hard to compare his albums to one another, this particular one really stands out from the others. Doom drops pure lyrical genius all over this album, with witty comments and puns that directly relates life to food. It's a fun album that truly showcases his quick and flawless delivery.
The album begins with 'Beef Rapp', which is a half instrumental/sampled song until he finally decides to start rapping two minutes into it. In this particular song his scruffy voice compliments the heavy and loud superhero sounding beat. His lyrics are impressive: ""Heart attack, heart disease ... ain't no holding back once arteries start to squeeze." 'Hoe Cakes' uses a spit sounding beat with a female sample saying "Super" throughout the chorus - interesting mix. 'Potholderz,' featuring Count Bass D, is a decent song with an average beat ... however Doom really begins to shine in 'One Beer' and 'Deep Fried Frenz.' Both of these songs show his quick and witty delivery and interesting lyrics. Unfortunately, both of these songs have annoying beats that make it rather difficult to listen to. 'Poo Putt Platter' through 'Fig Leaf' are all instrumentals, however it's worth the waiting because Doom shows up in tip top form for the remainder of the album. 'Kon Kane' makes a departure from the annoying beats mentioned previously by introducing a quick piano melody with what sounds like Space Invaders taser blasts. 'Guinnesses' features Angelika and 4ize, and this song is one of the best tracks on the album. It's a unique and addicting Rockabilly beat, all delivered by Angelika. Doom is only present during the chorus where he relates "War wounds, morphine, and veterans" to marrying and trying to tame a female! "Some chicks are just too hard to wife!" In 'Kon Queso' Doom picks a perfect match of beat, melody, and lyrics. It is a really quick pulsating beat with exceptional lyrics. "When it rain it sure do thunderstorm / I got more rhymes in the summer than musty underarms." He really shines; and it continues to get better. After 'Rapp Snitch,' a cheesy filler song, Doom continues to blow the album up with 'Vomitspit.' Not only does this song sport a crazy beat, his lyrics don't get any better. "The mask is like Jason / They told the place not to let the basket type case in / He could be some kind of wacko / Waiting for the chance to heat the pipes like a crack hoe." And finally, the last song caps off a great album. 'Kookies' has a beat that you just want to row your windows down and cruise to. This song is an interesting one in which Doom refers to trying to track down females online to his cookie consumption habits over a brass sounding beat. "Catch sugar fits every time he sees a nice pair of / Chips ahoy double chocolate chunk / Something with the bubble and the junk in the trunk"
Overall, the album is great. It took me a few times through to really apprecaite how well thought the album is. It truly grows on you. I find it interesting how he relates different stuff to food. There are quite a few songs that are just samples on the album; in fact, almost every song has samples and cartoons mixed towards the end. This frustrates some people, however it mostly all tells a story - why he wears his mask. This doesn't take away from the album in any form or fashion.

A substantial meal!.......2007-07-13
Uh, quite possible the best cd in the universe. Seriously, real good. The amazing beats and production, the ridiculously inventive lyrics, even the song times on the inner sleeve are listed as menu item prices, really cool.
Even the skits are woven nicely into the album as not to disrupt Dooms crazy flow.
Music like this is the next step for music lovers of any genre, simply put, its just great music without any tags.
Trust me, worth every cent to add to your collection, as with most Doom projects. MM Food is Delicioso!
I'm not saying that if your a country music fan or classical music fan, that your going to be bored with that music and start buying underground hip hop, but if your a rock/metal/punk/harcore/hip-hop/trip-hop/electronica/alternative fan, and are looking for something different and great, this will be right up your alley.
Like all A grade MC's, Dooms firm grasp on americana and the english language make him a force to be reckoned with, both on the mic and behind the boards, he's up there with producers such as Pete Rock, DJ Premier, RZA, EL-P, Early Dr. Dre. Doom is almost unmatched and in top form on this disc.
Rhymesayers is re-releasing this like next week, pick it up, you wont be disappointed if your a hip hop fan, or an adventurous music listener.

Classic Doom.......2007-01-21
I think this is a great CD lyrically and beat wise for Doom fans,or any hip-hop fan for that matter. I like the sampled in songs were Doom shows off some of his producing talents. he always has his way of flowing and he just may be the greatest underground MC ever. I think the specail guests are excellent for Doom standards...each one brings his/her own skill to the table: Count Bass D drops a perfect beat and has a poetic style flow, but still doesn't outshine Doom(no one does),Mr.Fantastik isn't anything above average as far as rhyming goes("My hoes be the thickest/my dro the stickyest),but he has a smooth voice and it can go along with almost any beat(check out "Anti-Matter" on the King Geedorah LP) ad last but not least Angelikka and 4ize on Genuisess, it doesn't feature Doom on the rhymes but on the boards and I don't like it that much, but that doesn't mean it's not bad, the rhymes are pretty good.
Top 5 tracks
1.Hoe Cakes(prod. M.F. Doom)
2.Potholderz(feat. Count Bass D)(prod. Count Bass D)
3.Kookies(Prod.M.F. Doom)
4.One Beer (prod.Madlib)
5.Deep Fried Frenz(prod.M.F. Doom)
point blank its the perfect addition to a hip-hop collection. I would reccomend King Geedorah if ur into production of Doom's and Viktor Vaughn if your up for clever beats and rhymes.
Yes. No........2007-01-04
Contrary to popular belief, this disc trumps Operation: Doomsday, Vaudeville Villain AND Madvillainy. Granted, his debut was faaar more 'revolutionary,' if you will, and so sonically you could say it's more 'impressive' (like the way The Piper at the Gates of Dawn remained Floyd's most impressive release sonically). One thing I will admit MM..Food? lacks is a STAND-OUT like the RJD2-produced "Saliva" or Madlib's genius "All Caps." However, the flow is more CONSISTENT. However, this review isn't all good news.... MM..Food? is another CLASSIC that will not be fully realized OOP. Mr. Dumile REALLY suffers from this printing-problem (see Operation: Doomsday and KMD's seminal Bl_ck B_st_rds for further evidence). Now...this is my first (and probably only) review on Amazon, so I'd like to take this opportunity to list my favorite OOP or never officially-released or import-only CDs (those already listed are implied): KMFDM's Symbol-album, Prince's Black Album, the Dandy Warhols' Dandy's Rule OK? (which, BTW, is available through their website in the form of a 2005-reissue for $20) and Black Album (also on their site, packaged with a b-sides disc for $30), Albert Hammond, Jr.'s Yours to Keep, the Sound's Jeopardy, RZA's Ghost Dog soundtrack, the original SMiLE recordings...I could continue this list indefinitely. The same goes for books and DVDs (I'll most likely do a similar review/plea for both). ? & ?, spike

Album Description
Debut album from Rodan of Monsta Island Czars. One of the original members of KMD, Rodan is best known for his guest appearances on MF Doom's "Operation: Doomsday", Viktor Vaughn's "Vaudeville Villain", "No Snakes Alive" with MF Doom and MF Grimm and most recently was featured on many tracks on the Monsta Island Czars debut "Escape from Monsta Island". "Theophany: The Book of Elevations" features production from X-Ray of Monsta Island Czars and guests appearances by MF Doom, MF Grimm, Megalon and Monsta Island Czars.
Customer Reviews:
Sky is the limit for this highly recommendation!!!.......2007-05-23
I heard of this cat when MF Doom dropped his first album. Rodan is so complex with his lyrics and flow. I copped this album when it first came out in 2004. Definetly a classic. X-Ray has hooked up theses beats superbly. The beats are massively ill. You can't really get realer than this. The intro starts out with an excert from the movie with Elias Koteas speaking then Rodan comes in spitting light speed saying that he's the angel of death and you are at the end. No snakes alive part 2 is phat. Erotic Peaks is funny at the same time serious poeticly. The wilderness I think is one of the tightest songs on this album. The whole album is really tight. Every song. Don't listen to that geek "sailorkid 76" at the very first review. Read my lips............GET THIS ALBUM!!!

If you're here looking for Rodan
<--------1
the monsta island czar
then you already know Rodan
<--------2
is one of the most gifted lyrisist in the rap game
some idiot wrote below that Rodan sounded like a bad RBL or something.....???!!
yeah right....
and this kid said rodan was biting some rock bands name....?????
I'd like to fight this person now
If you listen to some stupid "indie" rock or whatever then don't even bother with Rodan
he wouldn't make sence to you
for those of you that appreciate quality hip hop
let me excuse this reviewer of which I speak
for saying things that hold no real insight
"a faker with no respect for the underground"
is a good description of the person who said this of RODAN.
RODAN

well almost...this is a classic release without a doubt...insightful lyrics and dope beats, what you would expect from a monsta island czar...5 stars without a doubt, however, megalon's a penny for your thought is slightly better in my opinion, which should say something...peace.
Ignorant.......2005-10-13
This is a pretty good album but don't listen to Sailorkid 76. If he'd bothered to check out any of the background info about Rodan and Monsta Island Czars he'd know that they take their names from the monsters in the Toho Godzilla movies (King Geedorah, Megalon, Jet Jaguar, King Caesar, et al) and they use samples from a lot of those movies. I don't think a hip hop crew from Long Island is going to know about a band with one album and 7" from Louisville before they go choosing their names and it's not a terribly original name anyways.
Straight Fire.......2005-09-18
YUR, No need to get into the details, but if your down with doom or Grimm then you should check out thier crew the Monster Island Czars, they are dope . Rodan(of M.I.C.) follows through with a HOT ALBUM,HOT LYRICS and some pretty DOPE BEATS.
