There is a buzz in the path of the Infamous Stringdusters - the kind of buzz that surrounded Nickel Creek a few years ago and Alison Krauss before that. It's not hard to imagine that it's like the buzz that was around Bill Monroe's Bluegrass Boys when Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs joined in. It is the kind of word of mouth that comes from experienced musicians who tell their musical friends - "you've just GOT to hear these guys..."

Should you give them a listen? Not only should you, but you should do it now, so that in the future, when they're appearing on the Tonight Show, you can say "I heard them when..." Why is their music so exciting? The answer is not simple - the end product of their collective effort is music as smooth as velvet, as wild as Mardi Gras, as cool as the other side of the pillow and as hot as Texas in August. There have been a few "All-Star" bands that gathered informally and even recorded, such as Strength in Numbers and the Bluegrass Album Band, but I can think of no other "full-time band" with as much talent as the Dusters. In fact, I have to stretch my memory to think of an "All-Star" band with six musicians as gifted as (in no particular order) Andy Hall on Dobro, Chris Eldridge on Guitar, Travis Book on Bass, Jesse Cobb on Mandolin, Chris Pandolfi on Banjo and Jeremy Garrett on fiddle. Vocally, they come at you a half-dozen ways with great soulful leads, soaring harmonies and a sound that epitomizes a modern interpretation of "High Lonesome".

Their songs are original and intricate with arrangements that grab you with hooks that could lift an ocean liner. Bands with half as much talent have disintegrated into a mess of spotlight-grabbing egos, but the Dusters complement one another like a seasoned unit with decades of touring. They blend beautiful ballads with blistering barn-burners.

They are carving a new path into Bluegrass history. Hearing them gives me the same kind of excitement I felt the first time I heard Earl play "Foggy Mountain Breakdown" or the Osborne Brother's "Rocky Top". Take a listen to "Dream You Back", "3x5", the opening "No More To Leave You Behind" or the titular "Fork in the Road". Prepare to be awed. You've just GOT to hear these guys...

This collection is well worth the wait. I have had the opportunity to see the Stringdusters twice in person and was anxiously waiting for the release. I was not disappointed and you won't be either. You should get two - one for you and one to share with a friend.

Prior to the release of their debut CD, the Infamous Stringdusters were the subject of much hype and buzz in many acoustic and bluegrass music circles regarding the band members collaboration - this project is proof that the hype was well warranted. This is a fantanstic album! Fresh, innovative, with great singing and pickin. This is sure to be a landmark album for the next generation of great bluegrass bands on par with the Seldom Scene, Hot Rize, and Nashville Blugrass Band.

Artists like Iris DeMent aren't supposed to exist anymore in this cynical world. Like many Listeners, I heard Iris Dement the first time when "Our Town" was played during the Series Finale of "Northern Exposure" and loved the song. Her simple, folky lyrics and warm sentiments reflect her upbringing in the Great Plains and the song resonates with an innocence that is refreshing. But there is also more excellent material on "Infamous Angel," with "These Hills," being my favorite of her songs. The sincerity of this song evokes a black and white photograph of a longing memory and the final verse can move you to tears. Since I lived in the hills of Eastern Oklahoma for a time, where Iris was inspired to write this song, makes it all the more special to me. "Sweet Forgiveness" follows the same pattern . Not a bad song on the CD.

I discovered Iris Dement's first recording much as I did John Prine's over 30 years ago, while spending a Saturday afternoon in a music store. And, like Prine's first album, Dement's Infamous Angel seems almost beyond criticism.
Her melodies and her voice seem so utterly timeless, carved and whittled from the stone and the forests of the deep South. Her lyrics cut to the bone, with images and motifs that are both achingly sincere and incandescently universal. To choose one song from this set is, again, like choosing one song from Prine's first--almost impossible. And yet "Our Town" speaks to me in a way that only a handful of songs, a handful of poems, a handful of novels have done in my 60 years. Every image is utterly recognizable, sometimes joyfylly so, sometimes devastatingly so.
It is her town. It is her life. And yet we know that life. We know the spinning of the years. The moments of rich possibility, the moments of final passing. We know the eternal truth of the sun sinking down in our homes, in our lives, in our town.

Iris Dement is truly an American treasure. There is nothing airbrushed or new-Nashville about her or her music. She is joltingly real. Her music stuns and shapes the heart. Iris Dement IS the heart.

Iris DeMent will alway's be Rose Gentry (Pretty Saro/ Song Catcher) which drew my interest into her CDs She has a clear pleasant voice and writes many of her own song's which I enjoy, her mother (Higher Ground) is just great. I have four of her CDs and plan on collecting all. Her songs are very HONEST.

Iris DeMent's songs are pure, personal reflections of her humble upbringings presented in an easy listening style with some of the best string music backups I've heard, especially the Dobro (including Jerry Douglas on "Infamous Angel")! Her voice is unique, like Dolly, Burl Ives, Rod Stewart, etc., being distinctive and easily recognized. As John Prine attests: "Iris has a voice I like a whole lot, like one you've heard before-but not really."
The last song on this album is sung by Iris' mother, Flora Mae DeMent, as a salute to her musical inspiration to her children. I love it!

I was a brand new SIGMA man (neophyte) when this dropped. One of my homies (K-Most) hipped me to it. He said it was hot. I was like, "Ain't that them hit it from the back kids". As I was listening to it I was in awe. You have to remember that hip-hop was being dominated by the West Coast. Therefore, the East Coast duo from the Famed Queensbridge Projects kept the legacy going.

"Survival of the Fittest", "Give up the Goods (Just Step), and of course "Shook Ones Part 2" are just a few of the gems on this CD. Havoc and Prodigy complimented each other so well. I hosted a college radio station show at the time and we debated on there that this album should have been a five micer. That is when five mics meant something. I was also continually playing "Temperature Rising" (as well as the remix), and "Give up the Goods" (Just Step). The latter featured Rapper Noyd.

It has been twelve years since its release and it is still a banger. That is the measure of a classic. If it came out today would it still bang and The Infamous would still bang. This CD eventually led to classic solo joints by Prodigy. H.N.I.C. and Return of the Mack respectfully. To put this in perspective me and first girlfriend I ever had speak about this CD often. She told me every time she sees or hears this CD somewhere she thinks of me. I told her every time I hear a Brand Nubian song I think of her because I met her at a Brand Nubian concert. But that is a another review.

this is a very good hip hop album. mobb deep come correct on here and deliver hardcore street music at its finest. probably the only thing i don't like about it is that the beats could've been a little more diverse. it's pretty much that boom boom bap type of beat which is cool and all, i just know that havoc could've stepped it up a little bit more. but anyway about the album, my favorite tracks are "start of your ending", which has a sick beat and is a great intro. "q.u. hectic is so dark and eerie and nighttimeish i love it. "party over" is another kinda eerie sounding track, good way to end the album. as much as people love "shook ones pt 2" (and believe me i really like this song) i personally like "survival of the fittest" better. those 2 main singles are hot. "drink away the pain" seems a little out of place but is still cool. it's probably the only upbeat song on the album. "eye for an eye" is a hot track considering it features 2 of the greats - nas and raekwon. "give up the goods" is definately a hot catchy song. it uses the beat from ll's video version of "pink cookies in a plastic bag". the rest of the album is cool but these are the standout tracks that i listen to. definately cop this album though, as prodigy and havoc got lyrical skills. also check out "hell on earth", my personal mobb deep favorite as it's very grimy street oriented too. b4 i go i got some questions maybe someone could answer for me. first of all i was wondering why the song is called "Q.U. hectic", what does that stand for? i figured it was QB hectic, meaning queensbridge but i guess not. oh and the other question is why didn't their first album, juvenile hell, sell well at all? i think that's a hot album. "peer pressure" is one of my favorite mobb deep songs. anyway as timbaland would say "cop this disc!"

What else can i say about this that hasnt already been said? It is simply a classic and the reviewer who called it a poor mans illmatic isnt really being fair as the only similarity with nas is theyre both comin outta QB. With this album and really 1 song (shook ones pt 2) they went from a kiddie rap duo to one of the most influential hardcore hiphop groups of all time. The production may well take many listens to sink in but after a while you will get it, the beats have a haunting, sinister sound that fit perfectly with the gritty rhymes that was to become theyre signature style. Havoc is nice on the mic as well as on the boards but obviously Prodigy was the main man and this is probably when they came together to do theyre best work, though hell on earth isnt far from this, for a couple of years in the mid 90's they were on top of their game which makes it so sad to see what they have become now.

I like all the tracks, this album is a complete listen from start to finish but standouts include Survival of the fittest, Give up the goods, Up north trip, Right back at you and the seminal classic Shook Ones Pt 2, an essential purchase if you claim to be a hiphop listener.

The cuts on "The Infamous Archives" go back to the group's mid to late 90s hardcore heyday. Start to finish this release is illustrative of Mobb Deep's dark, dynamic, grimy sound with haunting melodies courtesy of Havoc's production, that to many represented "street" in a way not done by anyone ever before. Additionally, Prodigy's penchant for starting off a verse with an attention grabbing line, writing raw rhymes based heavily on the Queensbridge slang they call the dunn language, and a distinct, hen-rock induced delivery appeals to the core fan's lyrical sensibilities. The double disc boasts collaborations with 50 Cent, Snoop Dogg, Busta Rhymes, Cormega, Tragedy Khadafi, Onyx, Infamous Mobb, Big Noyd, Alchemist and More! Prodigy and Havoc, powered themselves to the top of the hardcore rap scene through their straightforward narration of street life portraying the struggles of living in New York City's Queensbridge housing projects. if you love the mobbs gritty sound and raw beats,then this is for you,both cds were a great addition to my collection.even as much as i like the whole g-unit crew,some from g-unit do appear on the cds,but its not overly done with just g-unit,the mobb was allowed to shine again,plus a huge line up of different rappers,makes for great varity throo the album.....well done mobb

This is a very good product. On the first CD there are some old unreleased joints, from the "Hell On Earth" period in the mid nineties. The beats are really grimey: the infamous touch is back. The best ones are "Everyday Gunplay", "Reach", "Perfect Plot", "Block life". On the CD 2 the songs are more recent. The beats look like those on "Amerika's Nightmare". This Cd is not good as the first, but there are 2 killer infamous tracks: "gangstas roll" and "My Priorities". To finish it's a good acquisition, and the quality of the sound is much better than in the "Mobb Misses" mixtapes.

this CD restores the classic image of the mobb, if you are a big fan, i highly recommend getting this two disc album because it has songs that sound like they should have been on their second CD "The Infamous" it has those good old horrific thug tails from P. and the H-A-V-O-C.

Describing his film about Truman Capote, Infamous, director Douglas McGrath says "it has both the bright and the blue of that sad and gifted man." The soundtrack follows suit. It is divided almost evenly between an intimate chamber score by the excellent Rachel Portman and pop, jazz, and country songs anchored in the 1950s. Portman veers effortlessly from the jazzy "La Cote Basque" (echoed later in "Porn Magazines") to the melancholy "Truman's Mother" and the atmospheric "Truman Decides to Open Up/The Killings." Among the songs, the biggest novelty coup is the album's opener, a cover of Cole Porter's "What Is This Thing Called Love" by Gwyneth Paltrow; Paltrow acquits herself far better here than on her tracks from 2000's Duets, but she's still far from a great singer--especially when you can hear Dusty Springfield's heartwrenching take on Charles Aznavour's "Yesterday When I Was Young" elsewhere on the CD. Fellow actor Daniel Craig sounds lightweight on "There's a Goldmine in the Sky," showing music may not be in the new James Bond's arsenal. Rachel Portman's score for the newest telling of Capote's life navigates the disintegration and turmoil Capote experiences from openly gay socialite in the 1950s through his dangerously complex relationship with one of the murder's of the case he's writing about (which became "In Cold Blood"). A small orchestra is used to create a subtle score, one that creates empathy for Capote's emotions instead of exaggerating them. Coupled with this score are original performances by Gwyneth Paltrow and Daniel Craig, definitely worth the listen. Paltrow's voice is smooth and clear and Craig's supports the centeral theme of the men's relationship. If that wasn't enough, the soundtrack features never before released demos by Johnny Bond, an influential country singer and actor from the time period. Perfect for anyone who enjoys the 1950s music scene.

    This is a Classic album from Infamous Mobb for those of you who dont know them they are not Mobb Deep they are Twin Gambino, Godfather Prt.3, and Ty Nitty

    There is also a bonus dvd which takes you in the lifestyle that they have lived and what the projects are like

    Twin Gambino, Ty Knitty, and GOD Pt. 3 are back after 2 years to bring another solid street CD from QueensBridge. Not as good as their classic debut album but still a good 4 star album. Packed with 16 songs, there is 1 classic, 5 ok songs, 1 I skip (it's not an Infamous Mobb song anyway) and the rest are good. 13 of the 14 songs with Infamous Mobb have all the members on it and GOD pt. 3 has a solo. Production is pretty good, but not near as good as their debut. Masberg, Rick Rude, and Sebb all do 3 songs, ALCHemist, Lee Major, Steve Sola, Grim Team, Nucleus, Ax the Bull, A Dog all do 1 song. Guests are on 4 songs rapping and a few others on the hook. A nice album for QB fans to have or fans of real street rap not the sweet candy-coated crap all over the radio and music tv stations!

    Straight Outta Queens comes Infamous Mobb, which consist of G.O.D.Father Pt. 3, Ty Nitty & Twin Gambino. They are connected with mobb deep, and there music is without doubt influenced by new york, and other new york rappers, but they still manage to create an album, that's is different, but still worth listening to.. Almost every song on this cd is perfect (exept 2 or 3), which i dont see often... G.O.D.Father's great lyrics, Ty Nitty's verses & Twin Gambino's rough & grimmy voice is a great mix. It's also great that they dont have to many guest's on the cd, they showed that they can do it by themself..

    The dvd is also a very good feature. It shows almost every thing in hip-hop, and the dvd also make it all feel more real. Dont expect neaked chicks, big bentleys or billion dollar cribs, it's real footy from the studios, the queens projects etc... the music videoes, and the freestyles is also a big plus in the dvd. Actually, i you need to read this, if you like real hip-hop that has more to say then 50 cent, then you should buy this one right now, its definitely worth it...

    Infamous Mobb's second album "Blood Thicker Than Water, Vol 1" brings more of the hungry street ish we've come to know on Special Edition. The album starts out hot with the blazing tracks; "Greenbacks" and "Empty Out (Reload)". The Mobb continues to bring raw street hop throughout the CD although on some tracks the production comes up short or the hook doesn't fit their style entirely well. The Bonus DVD includes interviews with the members who unravel some of their memorable experiences & memories growing up in the hood. For years Mobb Deep were uncontestedly the illest crew in QB but 2004 will forever be remembered as the year they got overshadowed by the Infamous Mobb.

    This is Jerry Reed at his craft.Although,he isn't heard much on the radio these days-if at all.This full-lengh cd is just a sample of what the man has up his sleave.This cd is a breath of fresh air to hear.His talent is top-notch,his style unmatched,Jerry delivers the goods on this 1999 effort.This is a must for any Jerry Reed Fan.Great fun songs that only he could write,perform and inject with such style and mastery on the guitar.I gave this cd 4 star rating for the fun,talented, creative writing and of course the "Pickin'".The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because I wish that this cd was longer and had more songs.What can I say- I'm a True Jerry Fan!Get this cd,you won't be sorry!

    First Water Boy, then the Old Dogs project, now this, Reed's first feature-length album in 12 or so years. This boy doesn't get retirement. Jerry sings on half the songs (the odd-numbered ones, to be precise), and picks on the others. As with the LPs from his halcyon days in the 1970s, the instrumentals slow things down a touch. But, it's good to hear him getting away from the novelty numbers and back to some serious singing and strumming. OK, it's not likely to make anyone's desert island list (although Reed's Georgia Sunshine LP from 1970 makes mine), and it's not going to get played on any country radio stations. But, if you've appreciated Jerry's work in the past, you'll agree it's refreshing to hear him recording again.

    I.S. is on. I realy luv that they slipped in Chicago blues ledgend Buddy Guy. It amazes me that Chicago only has a babies handful of Hip-Hop artists when it is the second largest African-American urban population in the U.S.. I think these ladies, Common and Crucial Conflict might just lead the way for a very overlooked section of Urban America

    Yo what's up. Me personally I think the album tight, the lyrics are straight, the beats are bumpin and its really worth buying. I knew about Infamous Syndicate way before they even really came out so I always thought they were going to really blow up. They came to my school and performed "Here I Go" and "Hold it down". People didn't really to much know about them, till I kept on telling them how tight they were. So I guess a lot of the kids at Corliss High finally got a chance to here what I have been talking about. I think Infamous Syndicate are one of the greatest and probablly the only female rap group out. I listen to thier CD evreyday but mainly if I don't feel like being bothered and something's on my mind because their songs really get your mind off a lot of things because once you get to bobbin your head and singing or rappin along with the lyrics you forget all about your problems. Anyway thier album is really worth buying and I am behind them 100% every step of the way. I'm out,

    This is one of my favorite albums. Inspecter 7 is a mix of two-tone and skinhead ska. This album has two amazing songs "Sharky 17" and "Hub City Stompers", which are both amazingly written and pretty well played. The onyl problem with this album is that the recording is not very great. Otherwise this album is worth it, and their new album willl be out in Spring '99
