The People's Chump.......2007-06-13
Paul Wall is just an average rapper out of Texas. Sure he can rap circles around lyrical weaklings like Mike Jones but stand him up against rappers with skill like Bun B and he doesnt stand a chance. He is truly overrated. The main flaw of this album is him. Paul Wall get repetitive very quickly and a thorough listen will further prove that fact. His first single Sittin Sideways wasnt that bad and They Dont Know was also a decent single. Freeway joins Paul Wall on State To State which is the best song on the album. Bun B and B.G. do a fairly good job in Trill and T.I. was the highlight of Ridin. Then it starts to get monotonous. Songs like March, Smooth Operator, People's Champ and King Of The Hill are all good production wise but Paul Wall brings them down with his predictable flow. Slabflippin and Sip-N-Get High are Paul Wall at his unmerciful worst. How many ways can I diss Internet Goin Nuts let me count the ways. 1. The beat sounds like something out of a horror flick 2. Paul Wall's verses range from hilariously bad to pitiful 3. Using a phrase from a song to make a hook. How original 4. Who wants to hear a song about cybersex anyway?Freak!) Bottom Line: This is easily the worst album of 2005. Repetitive rhymes over decent beats plus the same old sippin lean/candy paint talk that you hear from every other rapper from the south. I agree with that reviewer that said that just because you are from the underground doesnt mean you suck. But Paul Wall doesnt suck because he is from the underground,Paul Wall sucks because he is too mundane! HE RAPS THE SAME ON EVERY TRACK and how long will you listen to somebody who raps the same on every song? Not for long. And that song Oh Girl is the worst song for the ladies since..... Sheek Louch's One Name! One last note: Paul Wall calls himself The People's Champ and The People is southern slang for the police. So what does that say about him? Think About It.
PAUL WALL ROCKS MY SOCKS!!!.......2007-01-21

the beats straight but whut the %$#@.......2006-11-04
Did he forget that he can rap? Why is it now it sound like folks from Texas dun went back to just ryhmin. thats how they fell off years ago. now lemme get this straight. you come back up snappin, get a deal, and put out some bull$#@!. why?
The People's Champ.......2006-10-25
A lot of people hate Paul Wall. I used to be one of these people, so I honestly can see where you're coming from, and I won't even condemn you for disrespecting this album without having heard it. If you want to ramble on about something you have no knowledge of, then by all means, be my guest. It only shows your ignorance, and again, I say this coming from personal experience as someone who once bashed Wall.
Like it or not, Paul Wall is not a flash-in-the-pan rapper. He's going to be here awhile, so you may as well get used to seeing his ugly mug plastered all over your television screen. I initially despised Wall simply because I thought he was yet another talentless rapper who only got his big break due to his connections. At the same time, I judged him with a prejudice due to the fact that most white emcees are fabricated, and I'd only heard a guest appearance from him on Mike Jones' hit single, "Still Tippin'." It took awhile for me to really accept Paul Wall; but once I did so, I was immediately hooked on this album.
The song that made me an instant Paul Wall fan was "Sittin' Sidewayz," which sports one of the phattest beats I've heard in my decade-plus of listening to hip-hop. The most appropriate explanation of the beat found on that track is simply hypnotic, and entrancing. Paul Wall laced the dope production with some clever wordplay, and though he will never be a deep lyricist, he is an above-average punchline emcee with an addictive flow. Big Pokey definitely didn't hurt things with his guest verse, either.
The rest of the CD isn't quite as powerful musically as "Sittin' Sidewayz," but it is littered with jewels. "Internet Goin' Nutz" is great in its quirkiness, "Girl" is a nice track dedicated to his wife, Crystal(who has since become the "First Lady of Swishahouse"), "Drive Slow" is the awesome Kanye West produced track, also found on Kanye's Late Registration, "Sip-N-Get High" is a standout track dedicated to the purple drank, and "They Don't Know" is another standout with a guest verse from Underground King, Bun B.
This was definitely one of the best hip-hop releases of 2005, and Paul Wall is often bombared with unwarranted criticism. Oh well, though - with success comes envy, and that's no more clear than with Paul Wall. Paul Wall's taken the wheel of the Southern hip-hop mobile, and as his music implies, it's going to be one long, slow, and syrup-influenced ride; you should enjoy it while it lasts.
Even the mentally challenged can make hit records these days!.......2006-10-22
And we're a better country for it. This young man shows a lot of character in his struggle with his mental handicap and darned if he didn't make a "good" album in the process. One cannot judge this work by normal standards as Paul Wall is obviously not "normal" rather one must look past the oftimes nonsensical lyrics and flacid beats and simply encourage this brave young 'tard for having the gumption to record at all. You go guy! I've heard his new single is going to be called "Badonkadonk at the Petting Zoo" and is his tribute to those lovable animals that bring so much joy to our children, mentally challenged and otherwise. Though his mind is tiny, his heart is as big as all the outdoors!

Good music to drive to.......2006-04-03
I got this CD used cause I liked 'sittin sidewayz' This CD is pretty good. I got the edited one by mistake and am glad because it has more tracks evidently than the explicit lyrics version. Also, that lacks some of the best songs. My favorites are 'sippin tha barre' and 'so many diamonds'. 'State to State' grew me on me and is one of my favorites too. Get the clean version for the extra tracks. Not a classic, but entertaining. I'll look for wall's next album.
Great album :-).......2006-04-01
I love this cd. It's a fantastic break-out cd and I can't stop listening to it. He hails from Houston and is a great artist. You know when you get a song in your head and all you can do is play it over and over? well that's what I've been doing in the car with Oh Girl (it samples the song with the same name by the Chi-Lites). That song is so tight - it's great. I'm A Playa is also good as is Drive Slow. Three 6 Mafia appear on I'm A Player and they are also really talented. You'll also hear Kanye West here too. This is a terrific hip hop cd and well worth checking out.
only like half of this CD, but that half makes the whole CD worth 5 stars !.......2006-03-28
The first 7 tracks are superb, except for the ridiculous lyrics of Smooth Operator (the posturing is laughable, c'mon guys). I found the remaining tracks boring and trivial, except for 13 (Got Plex) which is GREAT. So out of 17 tracks, I listen to 8. And I STILL give this CD 5 stars, because the 8 are so powerful and wonderful and creative, they so outweigh the crappy other tracks. If you are a fan of rap, BUY THIS CD, listen to it several times, let it settle in, do some 'net searches if you don't know the regional lingo, and enjoy !
Houston we have a problem.......2006-02-18
Houston is coming out in the rap industry. First Slim Thug, whos album is untouchable. Then Mike Jones whos album is also good. Then Pall Walls album. Every song on Pall Walls is a hit.
Already Platinum 5/5 (favorite song is Like A Boss)
Who is Mike Jones? 5/5
Peoples Champ 5/5
The People's Champ is no longer The Rock!.......2005-11-02
There has been a bunch of news emanating from Houston in recent weeks. You got Destiny's Child getting ready to dismantle, then the city was one of many major destinations for the Hurricane Katrina evacuees, and most recently was the four-game sweep by the Chicago White Sox over the Houston Astros in the World Series. With all this disappointing stuff happening to the city, Houston needed a little boost to lift its spirits...at least for a little while. Enter local deejay and rapper Paul Wall to fill their hearts with joy and their ears with delight from yet another impressive album from the Dirty Dirty. Paul Wall has been on the underground rap scene for some time now, releasing albums with his partner-in-crime Chamillionaire and popping up on other rappers' albums as well. After the success of "Still Tippin" with Mike Jones, it was the perfect opportunity for Paul Wall to drop The People's Champ and benefit from the sudden popularity of Dirty South rappers.
The breakout single "Sittin' Sideways" is one of the many good tracks from the major record release from Swishahouse/Asylum/Atlantic. Bun B makes two guest appearances with Paul Wall's second single "They Don't Know" and the song "Trill," which is the same title as Bun B's first solo album (see review below). Paul Wall includes his collaboration with Kanye West called "Drive Slow" that was originally featured on Kanye's Late Registration album. Trey Songz makes his 700th cameo with the song "Ridin' Dirty" and Freeway integrates some East Coast flavor on "State To State." "Big Ballin" and "I'm A Playa" featuring Three Six Mafia is done with elements of that 'screwed' sound that accompanies a lot of albums coming from the sound that derived from the late Dj Screw. "So Many Diamonds" featuring T.I. discusses the ever-growing trend of diamond-encrusted fronts that a lot of rappers have continued to rock in their grills.
But The People's Champ isn't entirely plastered with cameos, as Paul Wall does his thing on the solo tip as well. The highly-arrogant "Smooth Operator" gives you a sense of Paul Wall's ego while "Internet Goin' Nutz" depicts him as some charismatic geek surfing online chat rooms for some computer love. "Girl" samples the Chi-Lites' "Oh Girl" for a melody that the ladies can enjoy. "Just Paul Wall" is another mellow cut that seems to showcase the sentimental side for the ladies so that they know there is more to the rapper than what you see on TV. "Sippin The Barre" possesses that signature southern sound that we all have gotten conditioned to even though the background beat reminds me of Ray J's horrible "Centerview" song from his latest album Raydiation.
It doesn't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing, and Paul Wall has been received very well by the music industry and the listening public as well. The People's Champ debuted number one on the Billboard 200 charts, and nothing is stopping Paul Wall from continuing his trek to the top. And even though he's a white rapper, it practically has no bearing on his ability to appeal to the masses or the Hip-Hop community. The People's Champ is something that Paul Wall as well as the city of Houston can be proud of.
