From the way-cool opening riff of "Wonder Why" to the soothing strains of the closing "Come and Fill My Heart," Avalon is back with more power pop and ingenious melodies. The trademark of this boy-girl-boy-girl quartet has always been superb singing arranged in a most unique manner, not to mention top-of-the-line studio musicians. We should expect as much on Oxygen, considering the legendary Brown Bannister produces with able assistance from Grant Cunningham. Looking for hits? Listen to the aforementioned "Wonder Why," "Undeniably You," "I Don't Wanna Go," and "Make It Last Forever." This release will unquestionably add to the band's already formidable level of success on Christian radio. Old fans will love it and new ones should come on board after a careful listen to this outstanding album. --Michael Lyttle
Customer Reviews:
Best Avalon CD ever by BJ.......2007-02-23
This CD is definitely Avalon's best effort yet. "Wonder Why", my favorite song from them of all time, gets things off to a great, fast-tempo start. This song really shows off the vocals of Jody and Janna. "The Best Thing", another favorite, features the voices of former members Michael Passons and Cherie Adams. This one's catchy without question, as is "Undeniably You". "By Heart, By Soul (With Aaron Neville)" is an AMAZING song with AMAZING voices. Aaron Neville was the perfect guest to sing that song. "I Don't Want To Go" is just flat out good. You probably have heard this one often on your local Christian radio station. "Never Givin' Up" has a really catchy beat to it, a definite highlight. Another highlight is "Make It Last Forever", a song with a rock sound that seems like it would be something that Plus One or a Christian BackStreet Boys would sing. A bit of a departure for Avalon, but this one is still awesome. "The Glory" will definitely do one thing: LEAVE YOU SPEECHLESS!! Amazing vocal performance. "Oxygen" slows things down a bit, and tells how God is our oxygen and how we need him every second of every day. "Love Remains" and "Come And Fill My Heart" are both slow songs featuring the guys. "Beyond The Clouds", a COLLECTOR'S EDITION bonus track, closes things out with a faster beat that will get into your head fast. GREAT JOB! Overall, spectacular vocal performance, producing, and song selection. This album is fantastic and I would definitely recommend it to EVERYBODY!!

Favorite Album and Favorite Group .......2005-09-28
The Christian Pop group Avalon is amazing!! This is my most favorite Christian group ever! I love all thier cd's but still missing thier first album "Avalon" (Talking about main ones) On all the main albums, I have at least one favorite song which most of them are the slower ones. They sing the best slow songs that any Christian I know next to Mercy Me or Casting Crowns. Here are my favorite songs from each album:
1) Avalon 1996- Picture Perfect World
2) A Maze of Grace 1997- Testify to Love, Adonai, Reason Enough
3) In a Different Light (A must have) 1999- Can't live a Day, Always have always will
4) Joy, A Christmas Collection 2000- Don't Save it all for Christmas Day
5)Oxygen 2001 (Favorite one, and definite must have)- I don't want to go, The Glory
6) The Creed 2004- All, You were There
7) Stand 2006- Love Won't Leave You, Orphan of God
If you love Christian music, and have never heard this group, then you are missing out!! Check out this group when you get the chance.
Excellent! The best Avalon CD.......2005-07-24
I think this is Avalon's best CD, which also includes The Creed. I love every song on here, and they are all upbeat and catchy with FANTASTIC singing!!! Avalon has a way with blending harmony perfectly, and that's what really makes them one of the best. They are at the top of Christian charts for a reason.

Customer Reviews:
You gotta give it to these guys..........2007-07-26
America has not had a hit in 25 years, yet these guys just don't give up.
This is a GOOD thing.
America's music is beautiful, pure and refreshing. Unfortunately, that kind of music just doesn't fit into the mainstream anymore and that's a real shame. These days, music has to be loud, obnoxious, angry and filled with pounding bass and repetitive power chords with the distortion level set to maximum.
Anywho, I had the pleasure of hearing 2 of the tracks (From a Moving Train & Pages) from this CD 4 months before it was actually released. I caught one of America's live shows and they played both of these songs. Needless to say, it was a long 4 months that I had to wait before the CD came out. From a Moving Train gave me goosebumps when I heard it live for the first time and Pages just seemed to strike a chord with me since I've always been such an avid reader.
America still sound as good now, if not better, than they did back in the 70s. The harmonies are spot-on, their songwriting is phenomenal and their musicianship is excellent. Why doesn't music like this appeal to the masses? I don't have a clue. Call me old-fashioned, but this kind of music is just about the best around.
Yes, the band has many detractors and many harsh critics, but if America really WERE that bad, they would not be playing more than 150 live shows all around the world every year for the past 30-plus years. If people just didn't care about the band or their music anymore, these guys wouldn't still be able to make a living at it today. Yes, America STILL has a very large audience and I am happy to count myself among them.
Give this CD a spin. If you like acoustic soft-rock with three-part harmonies, you will not be disappointed.
HUMAN NATURE IS PURE AMERICA AT THEIR BEST !.......2006-09-23
HEY DEWEY, HEY GERRY!! GREAT WORK HERE ON HUMAN NATURE! MAN,IT TURNED THE GREY HAIRS ON MY HEAD BACK TO BROWN, WHAT A BLAST FROM THE PAST. IT WAS SO GOOD TO HEAR GREAT MUSIC FROM MUSICIANS WHO KNOW WHAT THEY'RE DOING AND CREATING. AS MUCH AS I LOVED AMERICA'S SONGS FROM THE 1970'S, THE SONGS THEY CAME OUT WITH IN THE 1980'S WERE EVEN BETTER, ON SUCH MUSIC CD'S AS, IT'S YOUR MOVE, ALIBI, A VIEW FROM THE GROUND AND THE UNDERRATED, PERSPECTIVE. I THINK HUMAN NATURE MEASURES UP TO WHAT IS PROBABLY AMERICA'S BEST CD EVER, 1994'S HOUR GLASS, WHICH IS A CLASSIC ROCK/POP MUSIC CD. GERRY AND DEWEY, YOU ARE THE LIVING EMBODIMENT OF
BUDDY HOLLY, LIVE LONG AND PROSPER! THE WORLD NEEDS YOU GUYS & YOUR MUSIC.
Very good one !.......2005-02-08
From the two opening songs "From a moving train" and "Wednesday Morning" you are listening to classic America. The rest of the cd is not bad at all, but clearly those two songs are among the best ones ever recorded by the band (and this are not Russ Ballard songs). So you can hear the armonies and clarity of the recording....great work.
I have to give it five stars, and have only listened twice!.......2004-12-01
It's that good. There's nothing bad about this album. The only song I personally don't like it 'Overwhelming', but that's just a personal taste. How would I describe this album? Most of the songs are fairly mysterious folk songs and when I listen to them I keep thinking about that old John Lennon song from the White Album, 'Cry baby Cry'. A lot of these songs are in a similar vein to that song. but then America always were into mysterious folk music, so that can hardly be a surprise. However, there are soem fresh gems like a few pieces of 90's pop-rock. the best one of those being 'Secrets', well, okay, that's my favourite. Then one of the songs is a jazzy kind of reggae number. That's cool. Town and coutnry is a an interesting country-pop song that is driven by some bouncy harpsichord playing, similar to one of the songs on 'Holiday'. I suppose that's the other side of this album, fun country-pop. then there's the fun rocker 'Hot Town'. Most of the songwriting is done by Gerry Beckley. Oh, yes, the production is good, too.
America rules!.......2004-10-09
I bought HUMAN NATURE a few weeks ago and still this CD is the favourite in my CD player. I keep listening to it and I find it really addictive. All the songs are just beautiful and take me back to the first America albums always reminding me that the sound is more like the ninenties. I recommend any America fan to buy Human Nature, it is a must for your collection. Do not miss the grandness of songs like FROM A MOVING TRAIN or MOMENT TO MOMENT, WEDNESDAY MORNING etc.
Five stars for this CD and if it was possible 10 stars and thanks to the best band ever!

Kids Incorporated.......2005-03-24
Oh my gosh, I used to watch Kids Incorporated in reruns with my son. He loved the show when he was 5. I didn't realize how old the show actually was. The girls are all grown up now and wow are they talented. I really like their cover of the GoGo's hit, Our lips are sealed.
totally emotional.......2003-09-12
I love this music, it may be corny but I fell in love over this cd hard!!
They've done it again!.......2003-04-02
This album is great! They have angelic, powerful and very passionate voices! Wow! I would definitely recommend this album to anyone and everyone! These ladies need to get the recognition that they deserve. They are more than just pretty faces, they are magnificent singers! A must have!
They're alright..........2002-01-15
I think they're voices are wonderful, but the songs need some more work on them, don't you think? They need something different to work with. If I was around, maybe they'd really accomplish something.
Not So Good.......2001-11-02
Really the only song I enjoyed on the entire album was "You're No Good (But I Like It)." Though they do have decent singing abilities, they're songs all sound similar and unimpressive. To me, anyway.

Customer Reviews:
Better Music Than Many of The Reviews on Amazon Indicate.......2007-01-28
Alright, I love Zipless too, it is probably the best of Vanessa's music because of the tie to her husbands Aunt Erica Jong's poetry and stories, so let's get that out of the way.
This CD is really good. The lyrics are fun and the music is right up there with the best the Daou's put out. Lot's of great hooks, Vanessa's breathy vocals, and good production make this a very enjoyable CD. If I could rate as such, I would give it 4 1/2 stars in comparison to 5 for Zipless.
If you have started to wear Zipless out, listen to the track snippets above that Amazon provides. Try Make Believe, How Far, Life on a Distant Star, and Peculiar. Mouth to Mouth could fit right in on Zipless. Make your own decision. I think Vanessa fans will love this CD - I do.
Vanessa is an Electronica Goddess.......2005-11-27
This album deserves an overall ranking so much higher than 3 1/2 stars!
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Vanessa - have all of her CDs as well as any other Daou recording that I have been able to find. Every one of her albums is a classic, and this one is no exception.
This CD is a little bit heavier on electronica influence than some of her other albums, which seems to be a point of contention for some reviewers, but it is still Vanessa through and through. It is sexy, ethereal, and trip-hoppy to the nth degree. I love Vanessa, and I love all things trip-hop and electronica, so this one leaves me in absolute heaven. One my favorite songs, "Alive" is on this album. It just sends shivers up and down my spine and sets my skin on fire. I love her voice, it always feels like she is wispering directly into your ear. Yummy!
This entire album is a masterpiece, like all of her other albums. Check out the tracks "Alive" (of course), "Make Believe", "Mouth to Mouth", "Cherries in the Snow", and "How Far" and you'll get the idea.
Also check out (and immediately purchase) all of Vanessa Daou's other albums including "Zipless", "Slow to Burn", "Dear John Coltrane", and "Make You Love" (my favorite album), as well as any other Daou recordings and singles that you can get your hands on.
Sit back, close your eyes, and fall into bliss.
Completely cosmic!.......2002-06-25
Contrary to what some reviewers have said, this album DOES have an intriguing underlying theme, blending cosmic, out-of-this-world imagery with the sensuality that Vanessa has mastered so well. Perhaps this "sci-fi" edge alienates some listeners, but I understand it and find it utterly entrancing. It's her most unique effort to date - right up there with "Make You Love" on my list of favorites. Try "Life on a Distant Star" and let your mind trip the intergalactic light fantastic!

Album Description
Rick Davies, Bob Siebenberg, Mark Hart and John Helliwell re-formed Supertramp with a number of anonymous studio musicians in 1997 to record and release Some Things Never Change, their first album in ten years. And the title is correct, nothing much has changed within Supertramp's world; they're simply churning out the same sophisticated jazzy, lite-funk-inflected pop as they did in the mid-'80s.
Album Details
This Classic Rock Group Returns with all New Studio Album, Original Line-up is the Same, Except Roger Hodgson who Has Been Replaced by Ex-crowded House Member, Mark Hart.
Customer Reviews:
Consistency.......2007-06-15
12 songs and each has its own tempo and message. I enjoyed their little look into life's ups-and-downs.
Superlative Supertramp.......2007-01-08
Ironically, the mass-market popularity of Supertramp rests on a the hummable hooks of its middle-period albums. Thus, I can only guess that the many criticisms of this particular album come from fans to whom "Logical Song" seems the pinnacle of musical achievement. Too bad for them... they're missing out on some of the best work of this band's career. This is most certainly a Supertramp album to rival (and in some ways, exceed) the best output of their halcyon days.
Yes, gone are the trite little singles of Breakfast in America. Instead, the band expands its reach, weaving a lavish musical tapestry of many scintillating instrumental threads. There's an echo here of the beautiful studio jamming of Supertramp's vastly under-rated first album. Some reviewers (All-Music Guide, shame on you) have taken this as a sign that Supertramp 'can no longer create catchy little songs.' Hey, maybe they've simply evolved beyond that sort of silliness. The tracks on Some Things Never Change sound at once familiar, yet fresh and new. But where earlier works tended to stop short, these go on, achieving their jazzy, mesmerizing potential in a full five, six, or nine minutes.
Bands move on; if you trust their vision, then you have no choice but to follow where they lead. The reward is discovering unexpected gems like this one.
EXCELLENT.......2006-05-19
Yes, we miss Roger Hodgson, BUT Rick Davies not only sang more than 'Bloody Well Right' in past years, but has put together a jazzy and sophisticated album, that perhaps is more like Steely Dan than Supertramp's more pop tunes under Hodgson, but once again, this is classy musical workings....great stuff, and for anyone who ever saw this performed live, like I did when the album was first released, all I can say is WOW! Great concert. So, for those die-hard fans afraid of change, I say, let go of the past and listen with an open mind and ear, and it will impress the heck out of you. Enjoy!
1.5 stars- Kind of a lame effort.......2006-05-18
This albums like Sominex, It will definitely put you to sleep. They need to have another vocalist to sing some of the songs so Rick Davies doesn't have to sing on every song. The songs on here are not up tempo enough and are kind of lazy and jazzy and just pretty boring stuff. It would be great if Roger Hodgson would return because they could really use him these days. They have a couple of really long songs of which one is over 9 minutes in length and the other is over 8 minutes, and that's getting pretty long for Supertramp songs. Just stick with all of Supertramps albums from the 70's because they blow the 80's and 90's stuff out of the water.
Excellent!!.......2006-02-23
After reading some of the reviews here, I was kinda bracing me when I put the cd on. I listened to it in a single run..., and again..., and again...
It is an awesome album. This must surely be one of their quality wise most consistent albums!
Indeed, this is a (re)new(ed) Supertramp... and what an improvement at that! If someone would have said this is a new group I'd have said it is a crossover between Steely Dan and Supertramp.
A recipe for high quality, terrific sounding music, if you ask me.

Qxygen Workout Music Volume .......2006-11-01
I am an aerobics instructor and I much prefer original artists when I choose music. This CD has great vocls and good music. I use it to warm up. It is too slow for the cardio portion of my workout. When describing a volume and the word HIGH is in its description, it should specify how many BPM are being promoted. When I see High on a CD, I am gaging that workout will be in the neighborhood of 150-165 BPM or even higher. This CD is in the 125 range.

Kinda like it.......kinda don't.......2006-11-03
The best songs to me on here are the first one, "Passed" and the last one "Train Tripping" Passed really has sort of a spooky yet cool and catchy feel to it, and I love the way Vanessa's voice fits in with the mellow sound and the steady yet light drum beats. It stands out to me more than the majority of the tracks here. If it were not for this song, this cd would be almost a total let down to me, and I might have given it a 2 star rating instead of a 3.
She talks more through out the tracks than she sings it seems. That can be irritating if you were looking for more singing from this cd. But I can't knock her to much, since this is the first cd I've ever bought of Daou. That is just her style of music I guess.
I'm not into it that much, but if you really like poetry then you will probably like her style of music according to this cd. Daou has a unique style in that she mixes poetry in her music and sometimes tells a story within a song.
Very impressive.......2004-12-29
I found this cd to be something out of the ordinary. I liked it very much. It really was poetry to music. Beautiful and seductive lyrics. I'm sad that Vanessa is not making music anymore. What a talent.
Dissappointed.......2002-09-11
"Zipless" and "Slow to Burn" were good albums, not great, I like most of the songs on them and and I loved "Make You Love." This one though, it just seemed she and her writers didn't have any good ideas. I mean, the lyrics are good, but the songs just don't have much rhythem, they don't give me that feeling of laying back and smiling like her other ones do. It just seems like they tried to hard. Sorry Vanessa, I think you're very talented but this one just didn't do it for me.
Vanessa Scores Again.......2001-09-14
Why she isn't a huge star baffles me. I can play Vanessa CDs all day some days and just levitate in the coolest, happiest, love-filled space. This CD has a cut or two that are below her usual brilliance, but overall its a smash. Husband Peter - keyboard wizard - and Vanessa continue to meld retro styles with millenial chic ambient downtempo techo chill in a unique and pelvis-grooving manner. Vanessa continues to write about love in all of its carnaland transcendent facets.
It's a logical step from Plutonium Glow, Slow to Burn, and Zipless (how is it that Slow to Burn remains out of print??). I can't wait to hear her latest.
We love ya, goddess.
C'est Tres Chic.......2000-02-12
Luv this album. Makes me feel sad, makes me feel trippy, makes me feel sensual, makes me feel intellectual. Vanessa Daou has created a masterpiece of "acid" jazz (some purists might place in other categories such as ambient, trip-hop, etc.). You fall in love with its ambiance from the first time that you listen to it. I certainly did...

Latin Pop Hits 2-CD Set.......2006-03-27
I bought this to put in my women fitness club, I tried it at home first, and fell in love with it, it brings all the engergy and the high level of BPM that I was looking for, Disc-1 140-154 BPM, and Disc-2 128-128 BPM, you won't be disappointed, you know the songs, they are high energy, use CD-1 to get the club going at a fast clip, then CD-2 I will use for my step class, what a blast, and the best part, is the cost, what a great price for what you get, I will continue to buy these CD's, five stars *****

Snapshot of endless possibilities.......2000-11-05
The cover of this CD features Lucas playing a '63 Strat that has a bend in the neck while he fiercely attacks what could be the next slide section about to be splattered with an explosion of notes.
That bend in the guitar neck is a good description of the snapshot of treats that this short collection of instrumental work brings. Lucas is all about bending the rules, the notes, the compositional progression so far and so fast that he keeps hitting us with the impossible shapes and possibilities of sound. A fearless solo performance here is executed with a deck of electronic distortion options and an array of pedals to deliver three psychedelic, blues-based avant garde improvisations in what is now being recognised as the Hendrix-Zappa tradition of virtuoso solo guitar work to which Lucas belongs. The fourth Chinese pop song, played on his National Steel Duolian, reminds us that there are many more worlds which Lucas has not only visited but returned from with a breath-taking mastery of the musical subject.
For those who like the exquisite Rise Up to Be and Bra Joe From Kilimanjaro on this album, there is plenty more where that came from in Lucas' first album Skeleton at the Feast. Evocative backdrop melodies either crash into a swirl of sonic expressionism or explode into viciously intelligent outbursts and wailing protests which Lucas runs into and then stalls in a fuzz box or wah sustained pelting. He is not afraid to take his time to allow the full weight of his communication to play itself out before blitzing into his next inspired burst of speed. His more confident playing here can be heard in the brazen wall of black sound in Autobahn, and the meditative openings of repeated phrases sent through echo pedals in the first two tracks which are immensely suggestive of endless spaces out of which clarity, speed and precision come rushing in upon the listener.
This was my first Lucas album and was so compellingly original, refreshing (quite appropriately released on the Oxygen Music Works label) and alert that I went on to explore the rest of an astonishingly diverse and little known artist. Zappa once described his own solos as `speech inflected', and more than technical wizardry and lightning fretboard speeds, it is the ability to say something which can't be put into words that aligns Lucas with Zappa and Hendrix.
This album is a good introduction to an impossibly diverse guitarist. Those who launch into his recent retrospective album Improve the Shining Hour risk drowning in the unbelievable range of techniques, styles, moods, song writing and film score compositions that Lucas has produced.
Whilst Lucas has produced excellent guitar playing in other albums such as Busy Being Born and Evangeline, this remains for me the right level of shock introduction for a highly gifted artist of our times.

AMID THE COMPULSIVE PSYCHEDELIA OF HIS SOLO WORK - HEARD WONDERFULLY ON THE NEW 'PARADISO' EP - THERE LURKS A ROMANTIC. 'Songstress on the Edge of Heaven,' commissioned for a pal's wedding, is pure lyricism and blithe scholarship, and somewhere along the line, Lucas' national steel guitar places the vintage Chinese tune an inch or two from one of Taj's delta dreams. Prepare for an unusual recital." VILLAGE VOICE, 4/99

"ONE OF AMERICA'S FOREMOST GUITARISTS DISPLAYS HIS EXCEPTIONAL RANGE AND SKILL...his solo albums abound with the kind of playing that inspires worship among guitar-mag editors...Lucas avoids the speed-typing-on-the-fretboard style for a more satisfying exploration of the instrument's tonal and textural possibilities. @Paradiso is Lucas' best work since 1991's Skeleton at the Feast." ALTERNATIVE PRESS, 8/99
Four Corners of Lucas' World.......2000-01-07
This is a sampler-length CD showing the breadth of what guitarist/composer Lucas can do. "Rise Up to Be" is a soundscape which grew out of Lucas' collaboration with the late Jeff Buckley. It is electro-operatic in its ambition, and for the most part succeeds in carrying the listener along. Lucas also offers a cover of Kraftwerk's "Autobahn" that's fun, especially for those of us who remember the original. But it is the other side of Lucas' sensibility--his ear for the delicacy and majesty of less techno musics---which provides the best moments here. Abdullah Ibrahim's "Bra Joe From Kilimanjaro" is based on a simple ostinato, and Lucas' ability to create loops of accompaniment to solo over is ideally suited to this. "Songstress On the Edge of Heaven," a live version of the Chinese film score tune first recorded on his "Evangeline" album, is played on a National Steel guitar. The sound is what I imagine blues koto might sound like. This CD is far too short, but these last two tracks convey more emotional and beauty than many other players do with double CDs.
